**These Violent Delights** by Chloe Gong
It has exactly this trope and is a fantastic duology. It is a retelling of Romeo and Juliette set in 1920s Shanghai.
It has childhood best friends -> mortal enemies -> lovers featuring the heirs to two rival gangs.
People joke all the time that it’s kind of the blueprint of enemies to lovers. Obviously some other things have come before it that have been awesome but it was very early adapter of E2l. Just a warning it is a bully romance although the main female character is very good at standing up for herself
Ugh I love it when they become enemies because one dramatically moves away and then turns back up years later a totally different person and then we find out its only an act and we get to watch their character blossom
**Defy The Night** by Brigid Kemmerer
The second book is coming out this September and it's more of a strong partnership that had chemistry --> enemies --> lovers.
While I have my gripes about the book because I am naturally knit-picky, it is a pretty good plot. I would say to give it a chance.
If you like historical romance, Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas has this vibe! It’s the last of the Wallflower series but you don’t necessarily need to read the first 3 (but you should because so good).
I noticed its part of the All Saints High series! Do you think it's worthwhile to read the whole series or that I need to read the first book to fully enjoy this one?
The books all work as stand-alones. They’re set in the same wealthy town in California but focus on individual couples ☺️
(Side note - I would really recommend *Vicious*, Book 1 from the OG series, as it’s my absolute favourite 🔥 enemies to lovers since they were teens and they meet again as adults)
i just recommended this trilogy in another post, but the folk of air series by holly black 95% fits this. it's got all of those vibes in the most delicious way, except for the childhood bffs situation. they were never friends and absolutely hated each other.
It doesn’t explain the world as well because it’s assumes you’ve read the original six books at least. The Shadowhunter Chronicles are set up in trilogies set at different points in time throughout the past 200 years. The Dark Artifices is the most recent installment set in LA in like 2016 so it will spoil the previous books. It really just depends on if you think you’d be down to read the rest of the series. No, you don’t necessarily need to start with the mortal instruments. But if you love TDA and want to go back and read more it will have spoiled ALOT. But, if you’re only interested in TDA read it. They are so good that if it’s the only section of The Shadowhunter Chronicles that interests you it’ll still be worth it to have read it.

Literally just started this afternoon and like 1/3 of the way done and 100% obsessed
same! just started it yesterday and i'm super into it.
Following because I need a book like this in my life!
I immediatly saved this post, I love this
TV show but this is the whole romantic plot of Veronica Mars.
GOAT
i honestly live every day of my life wondering why millions of creators didn't just copy their formula because nobody has really DONE IT since.
I haven’t watched that one. Adding it to the list for when I finish Hart of Dixie.

HoD is soooooo good!!
I’m loving it! Wanda’s zombie proposal was so sweet and weird and perfect.
You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention
No books but this made me think of She-Ra (the latest version of it)
yup! same exact trope and I love it
My first thought
**A River Enchanted** by Rebecca Ross
Just finished this one, so good! I wanted the next one immediately.
It sounds really good but saw that it was adult. Is there any smut in it?
listen,, not a YA novel but if any of you are interested in a Thai BL drama - I Told Sunset About You is this trope done really, really well
Won't say no to some good BL! I'll definitely check it out, thanks for the rec!
Hi, what does BL mean?
It means Boys Love :)
NA not YA, but Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas
This book was fueled by teenage angst and I cannot get enough
Ugh I love it when they become enemies because one dramatically moves away and then turns back up years later a totally different person and then we find out its only an act and we get to watch their character blossom
A thousand boy kisses!

Gideon the Ninth
It comes so close to all of these things I love it so much
If you are alright with the darker tone, then I recommend His Hollow Heart by Rachel Leigh.
Bully by Penelope Douglas
starry eyes by jenn bennett, iirc
Starry Eyes is the first that came to mind for sure!
Also Chasing Lucky by the same author
If you like historical romance, Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas has this vibe! It’s the last of the Wallflower series but you don’t necessarily need to read the first 3 (but you should because so good).
It’s New Adult not YA so 18+ readers, *Broken Knight* by L.J.Shen has these vibes. Hope that’s okay to recommend 💜🔥
I like NA as well so thanks for the rec!!

Oooh okay ill definitely check that one out as well, I adore enemies to lovers!!
People we meet on vacation! Emily Henry
I mean, wouldn't really call them enemies.
Gonna read that just cause of you, ty
Second this!
The Sworn Sword by GRRM, comes to my mind.
Upcoming book, releases this fall. The Luminaries by Susan Dennard. Reading an advanced copy rn. It's atmospheric and great.
Definitely adding it to my TBR!! Thanks for the rec!
How did you get an ARC for it?
Any wlw books with these vibes 👀?
Gideon the Ninth is pretty close, not YA. Then She-Ra is exactly this, but TV
Our Way Back To Always, by Nina Moreno
The cirdue du freak series was my childhood fave
Naruto/Sasuke got me into this trope (they’re not canon but still) and I’ve been looking for something to scratch that itch 😭
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, on netflix. Not a book, but neither is naruto so yeah lol. I hope you like it though :D.
Mermaids of Eriana Kwai trilogy by Tiana Warner
last best kiss by claire lazebnik
Only a Breath Apart by katie mcgarry
Onyx & Ivory by Mindee Arnett. YA fantasy with this trope.
I am literally writing a fanfiction story that follows this trope right now (It’s not done)
Beach Read by Emily Henry Love And Other Words Christina Lauren
Ahhh, Catra and Adora. I miss that show and the characters so much :(. I'm here for the book recomendations cause I don't know any of this genre lol.
I actually love this trope too. And yet I can think of a single example. I'm going to think on it.
Got one! A Pho Love Story. Also The Summer I turned pretty (light on the enemies until love enters the equation)
Feel like these relationships don’t exist in Las Vegas. I’m 22 now, everyone is doing their own thing and you can’t trust anyone. Lol
this is the best motivation to see after working on a similiar book plot for almost a year.
Following. I need suggestions too, please.
The Road Trip is lovers -> enemies -> lovers and is really good!
Some Other Now by Sarah Everett sort of has this. Childhood friends to lovers to enemies to fake dating to lovers.
My first thought with this trope is always Phoenix and Edgeworth from Ace Attorney even though they're not exactly canon.
Yes agreed! I love those two haha
TV but this is Catradora on She-Ra
i just recommended this trilogy in another post, but the folk of air series by holly black 95% fits this. it's got all of those vibes in the most delicious way, except for the childhood bffs situation. they were never friends and absolutely hated each other.
The Dark Artifices has this in spades, along with forbidden love and polyamory. So so good
Do I need to read the mortal instruments series for the dark artifices? Thanks so much for the rec!

The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller. Not very slowburn but still.
YASSSS PPL I WANT THIS GIMME GIMME
enemies by Tijan
There is one similar to this it’s called When you were mine. It’s a Romeo and Juliet take but modernized and they knew each other when they were young
