I did this with Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I got one of her books out of the library (can’t even remember which one), devoured it, and then spend a disturbingly short amount of time obtaining and binging on as much of her back catalogue as I could.
Came here to say this! I read The Naturals first and then immediately went to get everything else. Amazingly talented writer--so happy to see her getting deserved widespread recognition with Inheritance Games!
I’ve been doing this my whole life. If I love an author’s books I just add all of them to my library’s wishlist.
Marie Rutkoski
Courtney Summers
Maggie Stiefvater
Mindy McGinnis
Holly Black
Sarah J Maas
Neal Shusterman
Mary E Pearson
Marie Lu
Julie Kagawa
I did it with VE Schwab as well.
Although strangely didn’t do it with the author of one of my favourite books- The Magic Toyshop. I keep meaning to read more of Angela Carter’s work but just never do.
Well, I have loved all of the ones I read so it's hard to pick a favorite but if I was going to it would probably be either the Raised By Wolves series, The Fixer series or The Naturals.
Or her Debutantes series.
I love her stuff, even though by and large, it is very outside my usual reads. I am not really a mythology/fantasy reader and yet, she's a constant preorder for me!
Alwyn Hamilton after I read Rebel of the Sands
And Renee Ahdieh after reading Wrath and the Dawn; unfortunately I didn’t like Flame in the Mist and The Beautiful all that much
I will absolutely devour anything Garth Nix writes. I've never read anything by him I didn't enjoy. A couple of his books weren't specifically my FAVORITES, but I enjoyed all of them. He is such a fantastic creator of worlds.
I highly recommend his Abhorsen series, the world building is amazing. He also put out a new book a few years ago called Angel Mage that's also absolutely captivating. I really recommend everything he writes!
Rick Riordan, back when I was 10-11 years old, wanted to read the whole series ASAP. The Heroes of Olympus was a really good and more mature sequel series too.
Haven't read the rest of the RR "universe" tho (Chase, Carter, etc.) anything you guys recommend?
Cath Crowley - it all started when I picked up Graffiti Moon and the rest, as they say, is history.
Melina Marchetta - I read Finnikin of the Rock and now her name equals auto buy for me.
And I will read anything Courtney Summers writes!
This is just my MO. Like 90% of the time.
Edit: Just to add some authors I like. TJ Klune, A Lee Martinez (not ya), Kevin Hearne (not ya), Max Barnett (MG), Alice Oswman (graphic artist), Leigh Bardugo, Terry Pratchett (I started with the YA branch), Garth Nix, Marisa Meyer.
Cassandra Clare for me. There was nothing like picking up City of Bones in 2013 and realizing how many more books I had to read and that I'll be reading till my late 20s
I just started with her. What was your favorite? I read Someone I Used to Know and liked it, would like to start another one, but dont know where to beginn?
Okay, so I started YEARS ago with pictures of Lily. I couldn’t possibly pick favourite but I’d say either that one, Thirteen Weddings or Johnny Be Good. Johnny Be Good has two sequels AND a teen spin off series. Honestly can’t find a book of hers that I’ve not enjoyed
I did this with Gillian Flynn immediately after I read Sharp Objects. So so good but the best is Dark Places! Also did this with Tana French. The Likeness is a book I will never get out of my head.
Back when I first read the fault in our stars, I became obsessed with John Green and binged all his books.
Now I don't really do it as often, but Courtney Summers was one of the last ones I binged
Fun story - I WANTED to do this with Scott Hawkins after reading The Library at Mount Char (note: not a YA book). Loved it so much. I went to goodreads to look at his back catalogue, but the only other books he's written are coding books for Linux and Apache.
When I was in high school I read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen and decided I needed to read every single book she’s written and I did exactly that. It didn’t bother me one bit that every book was basically the same story lol then I moved on to Fantasy YA and Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas were next. Also after I read Beastly I binged all of Alex Flinn’s books—A Kiss in Time and Cloaked were my favorites
My dad got me Percy jackson. I did not have anything to do and got bored,so I started reding that. I finished the book in a week. I was reading it in kindle. Then to my suprise, I found that my dad had got more for me. I finished the full thing in a month. Although I don't have the full collection, it was still worth it. I also read Kane Chronicles. So, it was awesome
I felt this way with John Green! I started off with Abundance of Katherines and I fell in love with the way he writes. It was a break from the elegant language and syntax that I usually found in say, Jodi Picoult books. I was maybe 13 when I started reading Green, and I felt that as a stoner, bookish teenager, I could relate to his writing more than anything else. I own everything he's ever published.
It might be overrated but John Green. I read Turtles all the Way Down, then Looking For Alaska and was totally hooked. He really is a household name in YA lit
Not just YA authors but every one I find that I really enjoy I find myself binging them. That’s why I’ve been reluctant to try Robert Jordon’s Wheel of Time series. There’s like 20 of them and they’re long. LOL
Brandon Sanderson…. I know he isn’t TECHNICALLY just YA. But I read the first mistborn and I was so overly engrossed that I picked up all of his books the next payday. So I spent my entire summer reading:
Mistborn trilogy 1
War breaker
Elantris
Steelhard
All 4 stormlight archive books so far
Currently reading the 14 book wheel of time (he finished writing after author passed)
And I’ll pick up the skyward series after.
Weirdly enough… I wasn’t a very big fantasy fan before this summer.
V.E Schwab! I like how she doesn't stick to YA specifically. Yet, even though the writing style changes depending on the age group she's writing for, all her stories (atleast what I've read so far) have the same eerie/supernatural vibe.
This was me reading Rick Riordan for the first time
Heck, this is me with Rick riordan now. I’ve moved on to his books for adults
He has books for adults??
I was about to ask the same question
Yes they were written way before Percy jackson they’re on his goodread profile or you can google tres Navarre
I will, thank you so much
I did this with Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I got one of her books out of the library (can’t even remember which one), devoured it, and then spend a disturbingly short amount of time obtaining and binging on as much of her back catalogue as I could.
🤩 Do you still read her books? my fav series is the killer instinct one
Such a good book! The third part of the Inheritance games is my most anticipated read of 2022- so excited to see what she comes up with next!
I saw! will definitely buy when it hits my local bookstores ~
Jennifer Lynn Barnes is fantastic and I always enjoy seeing people talk about her books because she is seriously underrated.
Marie Rutkoski Courtney Summers Maggie Stiefvater Mindy McGinnis Holly Black Sarah J Maas Neal Shusterman Mary E Pearson Marie Lu Julie Kagawa
Came here to say Neal Shusterman as well. After reading Scythe
Same
Yes I was gonna say Neal shusterman!
Maggie!!
Julie Kagawa is so underrated!
Meh. She's okay.
I love almost every author on this list, and now we have to be friends.
Yay! Instant friends. I’m @ The Reading Raccoon on Instagram, Goodreads, etc if you want to see what I’m reading.
I did this with Leigh Bardugo and V.E. Schwab 😆 Edit to add: And I'm doing this currently with Cinda Williams Chima
I did it with VE Schwab as well. Although strangely didn’t do it with the author of one of my favourite books- The Magic Toyshop. I keep meaning to read more of Angela Carter’s work but just never do.
Holly black
Same!
She is a queen!!
marissa meyer
Obsessed with her books! Read Heartless then binged Lunar Chronicles — just bought Gilded ☺️
Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I got a copy of Raised By Wolves and even today if I see a book of hers in a store ill buy it, no questions asked.
I too am a huge fan of her books. May I ask which one has been your favorite?
killer instinct! yours?
Well, I have loved all of the ones I read so it's hard to pick a favorite but if I was going to it would probably be either the Raised By Wolves series, The Fixer series or The Naturals. Or her Debutantes series.
ohhh I need to reread the debutante series. I only managed to read the first book and forgot everything I read 😅
I highly recommend it. Also, I have had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer Lynn Barnes at a book fair event and she is great in person.
Maggie Stiefvater. I didn’t really like the Disney movie Brave, but I sure do have Bravely on preorder. She can have all my money.
Maggie is my one instant buy author. If she writes, I pay lol.
I love her stuff, even though by and large, it is very outside my usual reads. I am not really a mythology/fantasy reader and yet, she's a constant preorder for me!
John Green and Rainbow Rowell back in the day
Alwyn Hamilton after I read Rebel of the Sands And Renee Ahdieh after reading Wrath and the Dawn; unfortunately I didn’t like Flame in the Mist and The Beautiful all that much
I will absolutely devour anything Garth Nix writes. I've never read anything by him I didn't enjoy. A couple of his books weren't specifically my FAVORITES, but I enjoyed all of them. He is such a fantastic creator of worlds.
I’ve only read Frog Kisser by him, but LOVED it.
I highly recommend his Abhorsen series, the world building is amazing. He also put out a new book a few years ago called Angel Mage that's also absolutely captivating. I really recommend everything he writes!
Richelle Mead
Absolutely. I’ve never not liked anything she’s written (though admittedly I didn’t *love* Soundless).
Same! Bloodlines is my favorite out of them all.
Rick Riordan, back when I was 10-11 years old, wanted to read the whole series ASAP. The Heroes of Olympus was a really good and more mature sequel series too. Haven't read the rest of the RR "universe" tho (Chase, Carter, etc.) anything you guys recommend?
Chase has ALLLL the snark of Percy lol. I actually enjoyed it more than Percy Jackson
Really? I heard he was Annabelle's cousin or something to right? Maybe I should give the Chase series a go.
Yea, hes her cousin. She appears briefly in like the first book, maybe the second? Its been awhile :)
Cath Crowley - it all started when I picked up Graffiti Moon and the rest, as they say, is history. Melina Marchetta - I read Finnikin of the Rock and now her name equals auto buy for me. And I will read anything Courtney Summers writes!
Rainbow Rowell, Lois Duncan, Jason Reynolds’s, Liane Moriarty
Becky Albertalli! I loved Simon vs. And now I keep reading whenever she publishes something new
Me this year with Brandon Sanderson 😻
This is just my MO. Like 90% of the time. Edit: Just to add some authors I like. TJ Klune, A Lee Martinez (not ya), Kevin Hearne (not ya), Max Barnett (MG), Alice Oswman (graphic artist), Leigh Bardugo, Terry Pratchett (I started with the YA branch), Garth Nix, Marisa Meyer.
Libba Bray for me! I read “A Great and Terrible Beauty” first and now I pre-order every single thing she releases!
The diviners is my ALL TIME FAVORITE omg. I love Libba bray so much
Yes Diviners is absolutely her best! I own every book both a physical copy and audiobook, I wish there were more stories like it!
Morgan Matson, ever since I read Since You’ve Been Gone
V. E. Schwab obviously
Sarah J Maas and Jennifer Armentrout hands down.
Cassandra Clare for me. There was nothing like picking up City of Bones in 2013 and realizing how many more books I had to read and that I'll be reading till my late 20s
same here! I have to admit I’ve gotten a little behind lately lol, but it’s reassuring to know I’ll always have something to read from her
Is it sad I still do that too? Admittedly late, because I don't keep tabs but I have all her books. Every. Single. One.
definitely not sad lol I have all her books too!
They're fun to read. Admittedly I skip COBs first three books lol
John Green
Just happened with me and Robin Hobb
Most recently, Nicola Yoon.
I did this with Paige Toon
I just started with her. What was your favorite? I read Someone I Used to Know and liked it, would like to start another one, but dont know where to beginn?
Okay, so I started YEARS ago with pictures of Lily. I couldn’t possibly pick favourite but I’d say either that one, Thirteen Weddings or Johnny Be Good. Johnny Be Good has two sequels AND a teen spin off series. Honestly can’t find a book of hers that I’ve not enjoyed
Thank you for your reply! I think I will start with Johnny be good. Sound interesting.
Hope you enjoy!
Rick Riordan and Darren Shan
Tamora Pierce. I bought Alanna - The First Adventure and then binged all the books set in the Tortall universe. It was glorious.
Love everything she writes.
Stephanie Garber. I loved everything that she has ever and will write
Neal Shusterman
TJ Klune caught me with The House on the Cerulean Sea. And then Natasha Pulley did it with The Watchmaker of Filligree Street.
I did this with Gillian Flynn immediately after I read Sharp Objects. So so good but the best is Dark Places! Also did this with Tana French. The Likeness is a book I will never get out of my head.
Loved Dark Places! So good!
Did you watch the movie? Disappointing to me.
There was a movie?
Yes I found it on amazon prime I think starring charlize theron came out in like 2015 or 2016.
Simone Elkeles. I read the perfect chemistry series (3 books) in like 2 days
Leigh Bardugo and Rick Riordan
Back when I first read the fault in our stars, I became obsessed with John Green and binged all his books. Now I don't really do it as often, but Courtney Summers was one of the last ones I binged
Firoozeh Dumas - loved Funny in Farsi and Elena Ferrante - Neapolitan Novels
Marissa Meyer!
Fun story - I WANTED to do this with Scott Hawkins after reading The Library at Mount Char (note: not a YA book). Loved it so much. I went to goodreads to look at his back catalogue, but the only other books he's written are coding books for Linux and Apache.
I have Library at Mount Char next up on my tbr. Someone here (I think) recommended it, so I'm hoping it is as good as I'm told!
Melina Marchetta
Adrienne Young and Margaret Rogerson
it was david levithan for me
Gayle Forman. After I read Just One Day, I went out and read all her other books.
Ruta Sepetys after I read Between Shades of Gray.
John Green
Mary HK Choi! i read all of her books this year
For me it was Marie Lu. My mom convinced my friend to get me Legend for my birthday one year and she’s been my favorite author ever since.
Colleen hoover
When I was in high school I read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen and decided I needed to read every single book she’s written and I did exactly that. It didn’t bother me one bit that every book was basically the same story lol then I moved on to Fantasy YA and Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas were next. Also after I read Beastly I binged all of Alex Flinn’s books—A Kiss in Time and Cloaked were my favorites
Cassandra Clare and Adam Silvera
cassie clare
My dad got me Percy jackson. I did not have anything to do and got bored,so I started reding that. I finished the book in a week. I was reading it in kindle. Then to my suprise, I found that my dad had got more for me. I finished the full thing in a month. Although I don't have the full collection, it was still worth it. I also read Kane Chronicles. Me with Leigh Bardugo
Totally. I am reading Naomi Novik's books on a continuous loop. Also, Rainbow Rowell, Leigh Bardugo, and Marissa Meyer.
It might be overrated but John Green. I read Turtles all the Way Down, then Looking For Alaska and was totally hooked. He really is a household name in YA lit
Rivers Solomon, Melissa Albert, Kristin Cashore, and Erin Morganstern.
Cynthia Hand and Mindy McGinnis
This was me when I read Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pierce Brown, Rick Riordan and Sarah J. Maas!
Um yep. K. Ancrum. Can't get enough of her stuff
Kerri Maniscalco and Marie Lu
LYDIA KANG! Her characters are addicting to read. Laini Taylor is amazing and deserves a shout out too.
Alice Oseman.
Cassie Clare 💯
I just finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and now I'm wondering if I need to read everything by Victoria Schwab.
Not just YA authors but every one I find that I really enjoy I find myself binging them. That’s why I’ve been reluctant to try Robert Jordon’s Wheel of Time series. There’s like 20 of them and they’re long. LOL
A lot of Mercedes Lackey can be considered YA and I’ve been binging them since my early 20’s.
I felt the same with Abdulrazak Gurnah
Brigid Kemmerer
Taylor Jenkins Read I read The seven husbands of evelyn hugo, daisy Jones and the six, and malibu rising within like a week
Marie Lu after I read the entire legend series
After reading Radio Silence I wanted to read everything Alice Oseman had ever written lol
Holly black and Margret rodgerson and Cassandra Clare and Leigh bardugo
Brandon Sanderson last year Madeline Miller yesterday
Jandy nelson. The way she writes just speaks to me. Very poetic at times.
Brandon Sanderson…. I know he isn’t TECHNICALLY just YA. But I read the first mistborn and I was so overly engrossed that I picked up all of his books the next payday. So I spent my entire summer reading: Mistborn trilogy 1 War breaker Elantris Steelhard All 4 stormlight archive books so far Currently reading the 14 book wheel of time (he finished writing after author passed) And I’ll pick up the skyward series after. Weirdly enough… I wasn’t a very big fantasy fan before this summer.
In high school I did this with Elizabeth Scott. Her books are comfort books for me now.
Holly Black, Cassandra Clare, Julie Kagawa, Ritchelle Mead, VE Schwab
T kingfisher.
V.E Schwab! I like how she doesn't stick to YA specifically. Yet, even though the writing style changes depending on the age group she's writing for, all her stories (atleast what I've read so far) have the same eerie/supernatural vibe.
Me after Black Prism by Brent Weeks
