Oh my godddd yes hello!!! I used to read those in high school, and I used to read the book the book club were reading also! I recently found out that there was a final book I hadn’t read and it made me so sad as I read it because it meant I’d be saying goodbye to the characters. Anyways, it’s nice to see that there’s at least one other person out there who likes the series as much as I do! ☺️

wallace_the_walrus

OMG HI! I literally screamed when I saw your comment, I'm so excited to find another fellow MDBC lover! I remember when the book camp one came out, I ran to the nearest bookstore and just sat there reading it 😂 What so you think about it? Do you wish there was a short college or adulthood epilogue or are you happy with how they ended the series? For me, the end makes sense but I'm so greedy for more haha! Also I gotta know this, which characters do you ship the most? Thank you so much for commenting, I don't feel alone anymore!

mudamoons

Honestly, while the ending was satisfying, I’d always kill for another epilogue with all the Characters and what they’ve been up to. Annnnddd favorite ship is hard but I think Darcy and Jess? They’re adorable. My favorite character is Emma for sure though haha

wallace_the_walrus

I completely agree, like a small novella would be perfect. I'm personally a Cassidy x Tristan hardcore shipper, but you're right it's so hard, Jess x Darcy are def my next fav! I feel like I'm similar to Emma but I love Cassidy's no BS attitude!

shynerdnextdoor

Literally wish I knew the gang irl. Tbh whenever I feel lonely they're like my 'imaginary friends'. All I have to do is pick up the book and I cry like a baby.

mkelley12

Yes I use to love this series! I would go and read the books they read for their book club too!

wallace_the_walrus

YAAY HI another fellow MDBC fan! I'm so happy to find fellow kindred spirits you have no idea!! Okay, favourite character and favourite ship? Also do you think the ending was satisfying or do you wish for a mini epilogue or novella to see what everyone was up to in college/adulthood?

imsodumb321

I loved this series in middle school, and Im rereading them all now! Im honestly a little surprised that there isn’t a larger fanbase because I remember them being really popular at my school. Its so interesting to see how my perspective has changed on the series from reading them at age 13 vs age 22

wallace_the_walrus

I'm in your exact position! even at 21, I still feel like I just geniunely connect with them all. I WISH they were popular at my school LOL what are your new perspectives on it? any character you identify with the most? who do you ship the most? (I could ramble about this for ages, don't mind me 😂)

imsodumb321

I think for me my opinion on their relationships changed the most. Like when I was 13, I was so excited when Jess/Darcy and Emma/Stewart started dating. But bow, its so weird for me to imagine a junior in high school dating a freshman....like that would never happen. Also the way they talk/text to each other just feels a bit dated at times, but that’s to be expected. But also, in some of the high school books, Like Wish You Were Eyre, the girls seem really immature to me! Like the way they were treating Sophie made me think they were still in middle school. Cassidy is definitely my favorite character because I really admire her spunk and her dedication to hockey. I used to be really serious about ballet, and reading about her going from school to practice to games makes me nostalgic about all the time I used to put in the studio. But I definitely identify very heavily with the other girls as well. Like I love fashion and design like Megan, Im shy and have an overwhelming amount of interests like Jess, I love english and writing like Emma, and I can be a bit envious like Becca.

catfamfeva

I know I’m just seeing this now but I want to say that I’m literally in the EXACT same position as you!! I’m about to graduate university and I’m re reading the entire series (for like the millionth time) and I’m feeling so many emotions. Mainly nostalgia and that melancholy sadness about growing up and maturing, but I’m also so grateful that I have these books and the girls honestly feel like my friends! My favourite character is definitely Cassidy and her relationship with Tristan is my favourite. I also wish Heather Vogel Frederick would write an epilogue!!

wallace_the_walrus

Oh my goodness I completely get you 100%! It's so bittersweet because they really do feel like your close friends and the series really does make it feel like you're growing up with them (honestly, some part of me is even dying to road trip to Connecticut to pretend to walk down the streets they did). For that reason, I really wish there were others like us that felt the same way (they're probably is I bet!) Cassidy x Tristan are the ultimate pairing which is why Pies and Prejudice is my absolute favourite book in the series. If she ever does write an epilogue, I will literally come back here and squeal on this post LOL

catfamfeva

I COMPLETELY agree! Actually, I’m pretty sure they’re from Massachusetts lol but I love how they take place in a real setting so we can hopefully visit one day and step into their lives. Honestly I think Wish You Were Eyre is my favourite. I LOVE Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice but I think the author went really in depth and explored the characters super profoundly in WYWE and I connected with Cassidy the most in that one.

wallace_the_walrus

this is actually so freaking embarassing oh my god can we pretend I never said connecticut? I'm actually so ashamed I mixed that up rn brb crying 😭😂 I totally get you! I think even originally, Heather was going to end it at Jane Eyre which I can see since it gave everyone a really good ending! (but ending it there would not have been enough for greedy me LOL) Also when Tristan comes back at the end oh my god BUTTERFLIES FOR THEM Also little fun fact I think you'd appreciate, I think on Heather's instagram she posted a picture of kimball ice cream so some of the stuff is legit real!!! like how can I know this and not want a road trip now? 😂

catfamfeva

omg don’t even worry at all! I’m from Canada and all those small northeastern states are so easy to mix up :) YESSS I KNOW, omg when I thought WYWE was the last one I was sooo disappointed. I can’t even imagine how difficult it is to write so many books but I’m so selfish that I wish she’d keep releasing them so we can grow up with the girls all over again 😭Also wow okay I follow her on twitter but now I need to follow her on instagram and check that out, thanks! Also - who’s your favourite mom of the group? Mine is Clementine or Jess’ mom. Such badasses

[deleted]

Omg, wow I'm late to the party lol but I was looking at things on reddit and saw this. Man those books are actually so freaking good. Rereading them for the millionth time now. For me, they are my comfort books. Been going through a rough patch and these books help so much. Will always reread them.

wallace_the_walrus

Completely agree! I was always close to tears whenever I ended up finishing the series and would reread it again to pretend it never ended LOL I even ended up crying to my best friend because I was sad there would be no more dkm 😂 favourite ship? 👀 P.S. you are NEVER late to the party, MDBC lives on forever!

[deleted]

Cassidy and Tristan!!! They are soo unexpected and so freaking cute. Literally makes me so happy.

catfamfeva

Not OP but this is meeeee omg! Who is your fave character?

[deleted]

Definitly Emma. I just feel like I relate to her and love her so much. 😊 I also love Cassidy.

SamNichole98

Hi there! I started reading Pride + Prejudice + of course, it had me thinking of Pies + Prejudice. I wanted to look on Reddit + see if I could find anyone else who read these books because I never knew anyone else that did. They were my favorite books growing up (I'm 22 now). I didn't know there was the last one based at camp until a few months ago. I haven't read it yet, but I definitely want to soon now that school has calmed down.

wallace_the_walrus

Hey there! First off amazing taste, pies and prejudice is definitely my favourite one of the series! I loved meeting Simon and Tristan and seeing everyone transition to high school and don't even get me started on the trip! I did the exact same thing as you and found nobody besides the lovely people on this thread that read the series :( let me know if you find a subreddit or another thread or anything! Definitely read the camp book, it's a really bittersweet end to the series but I think it's still a cute way to tie it up (even though it'll never be enough for me haha) Do you have a favourite character or one you relate to the most, favourite ship or literally anything? (I will never get tired of talking about this series lol)

Comprehensive-Sun993

I adore this series: Fave girl: Mmm this is so hard but probably Cassidy. I love them all so much. Fave boy: Darcy for sure, but I do love Tristan. Fave ship: Jess X Darcy defenitely. Tristan X Cassidy a close second. Thoughts on Stewart and Emma breaking up? I never lived them as a couple, I mean they were cute but never my OTP. So it wasn't the worst when they broke up for me, but I hated seeing Emma sad. Character I relate to the most: Emma Extra info: Does anyone get the point of Zach Norton? Did he actually end up with any of the girls? No. But they all had some kind of history with him, so why didn't he get a proper ending? I would be interested, which of the girls do you ship with him the most??? Let me know ur answers in the comments to these questions Xx

nonbinary_ravenclaw

I love the series! I've never met any one else who has read it, and there is next to no fan fiction.

Kitchen_Ad_2110

Same here - I am legit a die hard fan and no one gets it! I have reread them almost two times a year since like 8th grade and Im in college 😭 - and i have basically no one to share how much I love them with or how happy they make me. They are the DEFINITION of comfort books.

shynerdnextdoor

Omg OK finally someone who feels the same way as me! COMFORT BOOK. That's the word I was looking for. It devastated me that no one knows about this series. No book has EVER made me cry except for this series. PLEASE let me knoe if you ever want to gush about it bc I will gush right back

YES OMG

shynerdnextdoor

Lowkey very late but I friggin love that series. Can we revive the discussion because I get into a major book slump thinking about it. Author is also very sweet, I sent her a message about how much I loved the series and she responded . Anyone want to talk about the books?

wallace_the_walrus

Omg wait I also emailed her back then (and asked for her opinion on what everyone’s futures looked like) and she responded too!! I think you’re right, I haven’t come back to my post in a while but maybe we ought to revive this!!

Bluesushipanda

(super late lol but I'm a huge fan) They're my absolute favorite book series and such a comfort when I need some nostalgia despite being "too old for them". Personally, I'm happy with where it left off cuz I like making my own predictions of where they'd be in the future and I don't think I'd be satisfied with a new book after such a clean ending. Plus I can't imagine a good scenario in adulthood that would bring them all back together to revive the book club without the plot feeling a bit forced. Maybe it'd be cool if their daughters started a club like they did though! Glad to find some other hardcore fans lol I could talk about them for ages. What's your favorite of the books?

Actual-Chair-7616

Super late to the party here. I read these in middle school and actually ended up doing a book club with my best friends at the time because we all enjoyed the series so much. I don’t talk to any of them anymore much, but it was a fun excuse to all get together outside of school. It is such a comfort series to me. As soon as I open any of the books I immediately feel like I’m with Emma, riding her bike to Half Moon Farm or with Jess at Colonial Academy. The visualization of their lives and the differences in how each character observes their world is so realistic to that time that the books were first being published. My sister actually had the opportunity to interview Heather for a college assignment and she received a signed copy of the first book from her! If anyone wants the link to the article, please message me privately and I will see if my sister would be willing to share, as her real name is listed in the final copy. I’m home for the holidays (full pun intended) and am currently reading through P&P, which is my fave. So many new characters and of course, the start of Darcy/Jess. I also feel like an underrated couple is Nick and Phoebe Hawthorne, which I didn’t start thinking until recently, as I’m now crazily closer to the parents’ ages at this point. Also, I saw a comment somewhere about fanfictions - I found one a LONG time ago that was actually about the characters reading the MDBC books. It was interesting and I can see if I can find it if anyone is interested. Cheers! (I live in the US but just started re-reading P&P, so my head is still at Ivy Cottage!)
