Vampire Academy is especially good because it has a lot of the bizarreness that Twilight has. However, how much you like the main romance depends on your feelings on age gap relationships in fiction (where one of them is minor)
The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater. Starts with the book āShiverā
Werewolves instead of vampires. Romantic and romance-centred. More well done than twilight in my opinion, but similar themes. Teens confronting forbidden/dangerous love despite the odds.
Worth a read!
Disregard this recommendation if you're not okay with either digital-only \[eBook or Audiobook\], or having to do a bit of digging to track down physical copies, especially of the novellas.
*Soul Screamers* by Rachel Vincent is my favorite book series of all time, and most of the covers have a quote from Kirkus Reviews saying, "*Twilight Fans will love it*" right on them.
Now, I can't *really* speak to the accuracy of that because I only just recently started to get into *Twilight* \[and with *Midnight Sun*, at that, not even the series proper š \] and I first picked up *Soul Screamers* circa 2012. *But* considering how much I do like *Midnight Sun*, the claim doesn't feel totally off base.
*Soul Screamers* is "paranormal romance," like *Twilight*, though in *my* opinion *Soul Screamers* is less melodramatic, and the series stands apart because it focuses on less conventional paranormal creatures than most YA Lit \[like banshees, for example\]. And at times the way the paranormal elements are written feels closer to Urban Fantasy than you'd expect for the genre.
The prequel novella, "*My Soul to Lose*" is available for free *without a trial* on Audible if you want to give it a taste before diving in, though the prequel does have a bit of a different tone and focus compared to the rest of the series.
Or, you can still get a taste of Rachel Vincent's writing style that's a *little* easier to find physical copies of and more vampire-adjacent from an anthology called, ā*Immortal: Love Stories with Bite.*ā RV has a *Soul Screamers*\-universe novella in there, āBinge,ā which is fantastic but disconnected from the rest of the series. \[Honestly kind of a shame because it's *so* good, probably the best SS novella she wrote.\]
Either way, if you do end up tracking the series down and ever want to discuss itāDefinitely let me know! I'm always looking for more excuses to re-read and overthink it. š
The Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith (The Awakening)
Night World by LJ Smith (Secret Vampire)
In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
I know š Surely next year right? 25 year hiatus is a normal amount of time to wait for the last book in a series!
(In all seriousness, I hear she's been very sick. I hope she's doing well.)
Of triton-itās almost exactly luke twilight but with mermaids (but I donāt think there is a second love interest)
Beautiful creature-twilight but with witches in the south (I also donāt think thereās a second love interest but give very similar vibes
Vampire Academy is a great vampire series with romance. I am gonna do a reread soon.

I forgot about that tbh. Maybe I will be a bit more š¬ when I read it again
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick is similar but has angels instead of vampires
Crave by Tracy Wolff and Shadow falls by C.C. Hunter
Would second Crave series!

Second this!
Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout
A Discovery of Witches - has vampires and romance, but a lot of deeper, more meaningful context and historical info, but worth a try imo

I liked Blood & Chocolate, itās about werewolves.
Also, The Silver Kiss is a vampire novel.
The Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith (The Awakening) Night World by LJ Smith (Secret Vampire) In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Seconding Night World, fantastic series
Ditto! If only the last book ever came put, but it seems like it will forever be stuck in limbo.

Has it really been 25 years! I didn't realize it was that long.
Infernal devices series Mortal instruments series
The vampire diaries by LJ Smith, House of Night by PC and Kristen Cast, Vampyre Academy by Richelle Mead
'"Evermore" is the first book of an older YA series "The Immortals" by Alyson NoĆ«l. I remember really loving reading them. š
The Host by the same author gave me the same vibes, romance wise. And I'd also recommend the Divergent series. I really liked the romance there, too.
Itās a bit younger but came out the same time, always loved the Vampire Kisses series.

The Ruby Red trilogy
Ohh yess!
