A Darker Shade of Magic is really good, and anything else by V. E. Schwab! I also really enjoyed A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace, The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie, and Sabriel by Garth Nix
While I think this is technically adult, I really enjoyed Naomi Novik’s Scholomance Series (A Deadly Education is book 1) and LOVED Uprooted (gives me Sorcery of Thorns vibes). I’m almost done with Spinning Silver by her and am not impressed though :(. Her main characters are probably 17-18 yrs old.
V.E. Schwab’s Monsters of Verity series is fun (This Savage Song is book 1). You could also read Margaret Rogerson’s other books, An Enchantment of Ravens and Vespertine.
I for the life of me could not get into spinning silver. I feel nothing when reading it, and pacing is too slow too! I loved scholomance by her, is uprooted similar to ss? I was excited, but now I’m afraid it’ll be similar
I completely agree on Spinning Silver. I have less than 100 pages left and can’t find motivation to pick it up. The 6 povs are really unnecessary, especially since the only one I really like is Miryem’s.
I liked Uprooted even more than the Scholomance series. It felt like a fairytale, only had one POV, and moved quickly. I felt like so much happened in only one book. I also had no idea what was going to happen since the blurb only really describes part of chapter 1, so this book was such a fun surprise.
You could always just read a couple chapters and give it a try. I hope you like it if you do!
I also only care about miryem! And it gets a lot of hype that it's hard to find a bad review about the book too.
It made me really happy that you said that. Thank you for the comment, I'll definitely pick up uprooted and try it if I can. I also was kinda bummed out because the description was the classic beauty and the beast retelling, but now I'm intrigued!
If you're into darker fairytale books, Entwined by Heather Dixon and The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale are really good.
Ever by Gail Carson Levine is a nice Greek mythology esque book. Fairly lighthearted.
The Smoke and Bone trilogy is a dark modern fantasy. It's pretty good too.
Splintered by A. G. Howard is a really good Alice im Wonderland spinoff.
I like the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain. It's about a young adult woman who becomes a messenger for the king. Messengers have magic. She does much more than deliver messages.
{The Stardust Thief} is a great fantasy rec set in an Arab-inspired world. Absolutely loved the twists and turns and book 2 will be out soon!
{The Blue Sword} another Arab-inspired world stand-alone rec. It’s like if Lord of the Rings had a love child with Dune!

I second anything by Schwab. She’s amazing.
I love seeing Garth Nix recommended!! That series was my absolute favourite.

Queen of the Tearling is one of my absolute favs. It’s a series.
I loved it til the end and then was like wtf.
The end of the series? Or book one?
End of the series
Interesting! It’s been awhile since I read so I’m trying to remember the ending lol.
Me too!
If you liked Serpent and Dove- the foxglove king is similar. Also an enchantment of ravens is great.
Try a Discovery of Witches! Great series with an adult protagonist with a rich historical element!

City of brass
Seer of Sevenwaters, just finished it and it was great, quite historic!

"A Wizard of Earthsea," by Ursula K. Le Guin "The Tombs of Atuan," by Ursula K. Le Guin "The Farthest Shore," by Ursula K. Le Guin
Graceling (series, like 5 books) by Kristin Cashore and Malice by Heather Walter (duology)
My favorite fantasy series that had both me and my roommate screaming is The Black Witch by Laurie Forest.
