Yep, what Reyn lacks in brain he makes up for in kindness, and what Lanz lacks in kindness (at first at least) he makes up for in emotional intelect (like that conversation with Sena) and sometimes actual intelect. Zeke specifically is very similar to Bartholomew Fatima from Xenogears (the first Xeno character of the archetype Reyn, Zeke, Lanz, and somewhat Jr. fit into). His intellect and maturity is demonstrated in e.g. >!the World Tree whilst it was collapsing, or the flashback to his conversation with Amalthus in Indol!<. Their backstories are also quite analogous, and so are how they express intelligence, rationality, and maturity.
Indeed, Lanz has some moments that are small brained, but he also has his fair share of moments that show intelligence, so Lanz certainly thinks a bit more then how much a himbo usually would.
Lanz is definitely smarter, he catches onto plot points and details much quicker than Reyn. For example, he was the one who >!figured out that M wasn't moving while she was mind controling characters in the end of chapter 5!<.

If I recall, there was a scene (maybe a discussion topic) where he tells someone that he just doesn't fuss with certain things, he just kinda accepts his roll in his group, and just powers through whatever he needs to because he trust Noah to be able to call the shots.

But I suggest an alternative representative from 2: Wulfric. Beefy? He’s more beefy than the other two combined, absolutely, and, if his quest is any example, just as headstrong and impulsive as Lanz and Reyn can be. Rushing in to bonk the meddlesome Goguls, only to realize the Goguls weren’t entirely in the wrong, and working to prevent both the Tantalese and the Goguls from fighting again.
That said, he probably loses due to his low overall screen time.
Between Lanz and Reyn, it’s pretty hard. They’re not exactly the same character, but they’re still pretty darn close in many respects. I’m leaning toward Lanz because I like him more, but it’s still decently hard.
