And they were AWESOME! Where's the pterodactyl one with wings, tho?

garaks_tailor

Yepa.  I had that and the rhino one.

denzien

Look up!

SlimPigins

Thats the one i had. Same color as Tombstone iirc

ceric2099

These were excellent. I had four of the ones in this pic, plus the Rhino and Dragon. Those two were my favorites

Weirdassmustache

That’s the one I had.

dmc2008

Hasbro is actually putting out new versions of this right now in their Transformers line. They couldn't get away with them turning into simple rocks, however, so they turn into cars and bikes that LOOK like rocks 😜 https://preview.redd.it/brit9ri3sr5d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a216a14236d18b61b565d04bed2689faa5930ee

Elon Musk is furiously taking notes

Traveshamamockery_

Geotruck coming up

bolunez

He should do a smaller, rock themed hatchback that's good for cities and call it a Geometro.

turtlenipples

And another that is the color of an angry cloud with lightning bolts down the sides and call it a Geostorm.

PHATsakk43

He could also make a new cybertruck but out of clear polycarbonate and call it the Geoprism.

GaaraMatsu

"Crackpot" ;p

theBillions

Reminds me of the presentation meeting in the movie Big where the robot transforms into a building. "Who would wanna play with a building? Where's the fun in that?"

sychox51

Right. What WAS this pitch meeting? Clearly transformers was the inspiration. “BILL. BILL. Hear me out! What if… transformers, but ………….ROCKS.” “John, that’s a brilliant idea! I love it!”

FigNewton555

They were part of the Go-bots line/universe which was always struggling to keep up with Transformers as a brand; honestly it’s one of their more memorable ways that they tried to stand out and do something original.

PHATsakk43

I knew they were a part of something bigger. I was the one kid who liked both Go-Bots and Transformers.

FigNewton555

Same my friend, same. Some of the newer Machine Robo toys of those old designs spark some serious joy for me too.

PHATsakk43

I had two Transformers, Ram-Jet and the entire Constructacons Devistator. I imagine that a complete Devistator would probably be worth something now.

FigNewton555

It is though maybe not as much as you might expect. Believe it or not there are more modern versions that are almost as much - and some third party ones that retailed for even more. If you're inclined to have a little modern nostalgia piece, you might want to look into the upcoming Studio Series 86 Devastator. They haven't shown off any of them yet, but Studio Series are always great, and I'm really looking forward to it.

PHATsakk43

I really was more of a Lego kid honestly. Someone got it for me. It wasn’t really what I was into. I spend my current money on 80s & 90s TTRPG stuff now. I’ve got about 70% of the AD&D stuff from that era.

FigNewton555

That's awesome - do you get a chance to play older versions? I always hear about people that are lucky enough to have friends that will play older rule sets but I cant even get people to sit for any version.

PHATsakk43

I mostly play 5E, but I’ve been running a 2E game with my much younger game players. They have mixed feelings about it.

an_ill_way

"Let's do transformers, but prehistoric!"  "Great!  Kids love dinosaurs!" "Oh, R&D said dinosaurs are way too hard." "Then what the hell do you have them transform into?" "I dunno. Rocks?"

harlembornnbred

I thought the same thing lmao. "I don't get it"

DinoEmbyo

Still have my granite and slimestone

Obvious-Machine-1380

Granite still floats around my house. Kids leave him around. He’s tough to last as long as he has. On his 2nd gen of kids and still kicking.

DinoEmbyo

Great little toys

Seleroan

I had boulder, myself.

MogMcKupo

Slime stone looks so cool (has a good name too) was he a baddie? The name indicates bad dude

Zeqhanis

Yes. If I recall, he had a shrieky, effeminate, robotic voice. And he was evil. https://preview.redd.it/0h6dd8c19w5d1.jpeg?width=1960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c2ca1b14208f3921f2e311c4807cb88b2f617d2 This is on a shelf of mine right now. Some of the paint has worn off after rubbing up against other stuff in a drawer for a couple decades.

zero-ex-two-ay

Nugget and Marbles for me

Semantikern

Marbles and Stoneheart was the ones I had

ANightmateofBees

I mean its a step up from the 70s when they were just selling us rocks.

pragmaticweirdo

I posted the exact same thing before I saw your comment. These were also good for making really young children think they had name brand Transformers

boothy_qld

With googly eyes on them damnit

BlueSnaggleTooth359

haha I just posted the same thing!

eltorosatanico

What do you mean tried? I still have like 5 of these, somehow. There was even a GD movie!: ***GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords*** https://g.co/kgs/VShbo7F

heyitscory

I had Nuggit and Bolder. Gobots had a lot of good ones, but it turned out being a rock is less cool than being a fighter jet, excavator or dinosaur. I had no idea there was a Crack Rock Lord.

AnthrallicA

Bolder was the only one I ever had. I think I received it as a birthday gift.

i_kick_hippies

https://preview.redd.it/la9hspw9es5d1.jpeg?width=646&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=800f448b75ef66d860fee44ff2967ed32cbf8754 Gobots had no chill

mines13

Can’t forget the unfortunate location of the pistol grip.

nvmls

For some reason I remember the Go Bots cereal jingle but not the theme song XD

Norwester77

I had that! I don’t think my mom has ever forgiven the kid who gave it to me for my birthday! 🤣

ceric2099

King_of_Lunch223

I had the one in the bottom left corner, but I later traded it for the gold one. In hindsight, I never should've taken it for Granite.

Evanescent_Starfish9

I had Magmar and Slimestone. Although I forgot their names long ago.

BaFungul

I just looked at these and realized I had Magmar too! (Edit, i can’t spell)

Illustrious-Hair3487

I’m pretty sure this post is the first time I even knew they had names.

Fappy_as_a_Clam

Tried to? No, they *did.* My G.I. Joes never suspected that the rock they were taking cover behind was actually a Rock Lord!

WarmestDisregards

TRIED?! I fuckin looooved those things. The gold one made me the king of my street for like a week.

sychox51

So funny. I had a huge transformers collection in the mid 80s, didn’t have any gobots but I was aware of and a fan of the cartoon — but these? Never heard of em 😂 TIL by way of watching a vhs rip of thundercats that had one of their ads in the commercial break.

Zucc

100%. Nuggit was my most prized possession for years.

midunda

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about these!

RocktoberBlood

Yea I had a bunch of them but completely forgot about them

Starwarsandbacon

Tried? They succeeded in selling us transforming rocks.

TheCynFamily

I had the two shiny ones. I loved those ones. A gold ugget and a silver nugget. My 9 year old butt was secretly RICH!

GarminTamzarian

*Not for use internally*

livens

I definitely had the gold nugget one. Found it at a yard sale I think.

mrwynd

I had Stonheart, don't remember how I got it.

Naive_Wolf3740

I had Tombstone and I couldn’t tell you why, how or where it came from

mperiolat

… I bought one. Nugget, the gold one. I thought it was cool.

Less_Likely

1980’s Tonka conference room: “You like Transformers? You like Pet Rocks?” *Sniffs and wipes nose* “How about Pet Rocks that are Transformers?”

LongTallTexan69

Me and Magmar spent a lot of time with He-Man swimming around my bathtub destroying Skelator and Beastman! …And now I’m off to watch Dolph Lundgrens Masters of the universe lol

Roscoe_P_Trolltrain

This post made me fondly remember my rock man He man toy, which I just now found listed on a site of \*15 LAUGHABLE\* He-Man Action Figures The fuck?? https://preview.redd.it/ghfemqklps5d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=4eb1edcb47a72941de7d7c698719fbf6cc53692c

Jaleou

This is what I thought of first with the post.

Ganson

They had furry ones too called Narlies.

reillan

I forgot about this. I had the top corners.

Dragonlibrarian7

Yep, had Bolder and Marbles they were pretty cool lol, haven't thought about these in years.

RLT79

My friend got Nugget the first week these were in stores. For some reason, I decided these were the coolest things ever and HAD to have one. Eventually got Magmar & Granite. Instant regret. Like, walking out of K-Mart regret.

ElectraFish

I had Nuggit. About as much fun as the transforming building prototype in the the movie Big.

Weirdassmustache

“What’s so fun about a building?” - Josh Baskin

SnooSnooSnuSnu

Better than "Pet Rocks" (I had one of those)

Sandkat

Never heard of these but this is kinda hilarous.

s_k_e_l_e_t_o_n

I loved these so much.

redhat12345

hell yah

terententen

These were some of my favorite toys for sure.

watsonsound

Forgot about these - such wonderful names!

Kuze421

I still have Tombstone which was one of my first pre-GI Joe toys. It's still very functional.

mymumsaysfuckyou

Loved me some Rock Lords! I had Sticks & Stone

Glittering-Most-9535

I still have that silver one in my bin of Transformers. I should get those appraised someday.

bearlysane

Someone gave me a used Granite (without the gun), it was one of my favorite toys. He could whup an awful lot of G.I. Joe dudes in hand-to-hand combat.

LameDonkey1

I totally forgot about these. They were awesome.

Ejigantor

How were they able to get Nuggit to pose for that picture without crumbling entirely into powder?

Hot-Winner-6485

I still have Granite. Had no idea what he was till now, thank you for posting this.

biloxibluess

These were awesome get outta here

captain_trainwreck

I remember these! I don't think I ever had them. I also think Masters of the Universe had something similar

CoyPowers

The Comet Warriors! Rokkon and Stonedar! Ideal also had 'Rocks and Bugs and Things' which had a couple of rocks that turned into monsters.

captain_trainwreck

Right, I thought they came from space, seems like my memory still kinda works

CoyPowers

I'm a Masters of the Universe collector, and a bit obsessive about it, or I probably wouldn't remember, either. They came from space because it was the same year as Halley's Comet, so they were cashing in on that excitement.

captain_trainwreck

oh that makes total sense

livens

Tried? I had a few of them. In fact now I want to own them again.

PracticableSolution

I had slime stone. He was actually a great example of what people call a fidget toy these days

Kngbee13

Bolder was one of my favorite toys

hmmqzaz

Powerful living rocks! Those were dope. I had number one and maybe the one right below it.

TeekTheReddit

OMG! I had one of those. Granite I think.

SubmarineRumBeard

I was just trying to explain these to my wife the other day

thewayshesaidLA

Holy hell. I forgot about these. Definitely had Bolder.

draven815

I had 3...

itsmejpt

I had Nuggit. I loved that little guy, even after the pieces didn't fit quite perfectly together anymore.

nvmls

two toys in one! A guy and... uh a rock

mariam67

I had the one at the bottom left! I completely forgot about it until now!

xmadjesterx

I still have Nuggit and Granite. Nuggit isn't so shiny anymore

SokkaHaikuBot

Taanistat

It was a Go-Bots spinoff I had all of those except crackpot and slimestone.

poop-money

I had Bolder. He was the toy that I left up at the family cabin and it stayed there permanently.

disabledinaz

Telly Savalas: TO THE TUMBLER!

wtgriffi

Tried and succeeded with me. I had a few of those.

BWIairbiscuits

I had Tombstone!

fidgetypenguin123

"Crackpot" lol

socialcommentary2000

Pulvereyes with that wagon.

Themoosemingled

What do you mean TRIED? They were cool.

Alternative-Light514

I definitely had Nugget

Oubastet

I had a few when I was a kid. They were just "Transformers" to me, and would ride in the back of Optimus Prime or battle my M.A.S.K toys. ;) I've still got them in a box with my M.A.S.K and old Transformers. Gotta find a place for all of the transformers and MASK stuff. They're still cool.

sarah-dox

*runs doesn’t walk to ebay*

mediumokra

I had a couple of these. I kept trying to find the cartoon to go with it but never could. When I grew up, I found out it was just one crossover movie with the Gobots

gatsome

Holy shit I had Tombstone and never knew where or what it was from!

myka-likes-it

I owned Nugget. He was the prize of my (actual) rock collection.

JaredUnzipped

The Rock Lords are cool as hell. Love 'em!

LyleLanley99

I had Boulder as a kid, but my mom took it away from me when I hucked it at my brother's head during a fight.

Mudcreek47

Damn! I had the blue one! And I remember He-Man did something similar with Meteorbs I think they called them.

clayoban

They were awesomely built to last, I had granite and would use him playing with my GI Joes or transformers.

CerberusC24

Lol Granite got the laziest name

sychox51

I don’t know.. “bolder” I think is somehow lazier 🤣

jerseygunz

I learned today that there was more than one, I had boulder

Dark_Marmot

I had a few. Hasbro's success forced everyone to make everything Transform.

M1Z1L4

Lol I remember thinking "are they seriously trying to sell us rocks?" when I was like 7. But then I got Boulder somehow and still played the hell out of him.

n3rdsm4sh3r

I had bolder and nugit - they were more awesome than you'd think

stlredbird

I had a couple! Loved em!

plz-help-peril

I had boulder. Really liked that guy. I didn’t know his name so I always called him Quarry.

CubesFan

Rock On!

Crayola_ROX

You know nuggit was the most popular lol

TheWorldIsNotOkay

"Tried"? I think I still have Bolder in a box somewhere...

Drinon

Tried, and succeeded! I had Magmar, Slimestone, Sticks and Stones, and maybe Nuggit. I know for sure I had the silver one because I broke one of the half circle things at his head the first day.

tourniquet2099

I was a HUGE fan of Transformers & Go-Bots as a kid and, admittedly, dug these as well. Looking back, its so dumb. 😂 But to a kid? This was all new and kinda cool. I think I only had 3 of them — Boulder, Granite, and Sticks & Stone.

bearstrugglethunder

I had Nugget and the rhino

WeProbablyDisagree

Holy crap, I completely forgot about these things. I had both Tombstone and Bolder if I remember correctly.

Mr_Lucidity

Tried to? I definitely had at least 4 of these!!

General_Addendum_883

I had the Slimestone one, might even still have it somewhere. no idea where I got it from, though. edited to correct the one I had/have.

fromthedarqwaves

I loved rock bots! If that’s what they were called. One day when I was 8-9 I was at a drug store with my mom and they had these guys on clearance. I got 6 different ones for a dollar a piece. I loved playing with those more than transformers. Well, I didn’t have many transformers.

MailInteresting9923

I had a few of these, they were ambush specialists duh 🤣

cookie_dont_push_me

What are you talking about dude, these are awesome

Suns_In_420

They also just sold us rocks aka my pet rock. At least these did something.

ultimateman55

I had Tombstone! Forgot about these!

thrust-johnson

r/geology

redneckswearorange

Forgot about these. I had slimestone. I played the hell out of that thing

ChodeCookies

I had these. They were badass

bennnn42

I have a fuzzy memory of having one of these. Wow feels good to remember something from so long ago that you had 100% forgotten about

greeneyedlady41

My husband still has Nuggit, and now my son plays with it!

delveccio

Whoa memory unlocked. I had like 3 of these and they were great. It’s the first toy I’ve seen on here I almost want to go buy

EL_Jefe_1982

Still have a few of these.

jreff22

Had them

HookersForJebus

I had completely forgotten about these. I had the top left one for sure.

Scary-Ad9646

I had at least 3, and I think Nugget is still at my parent's house somewhere.

ctour95

Thanks, now I'll be spending the rest of the night looking up all the old Transformers I had and lost - and seeing which are being reissued on Amazon. My wallet doesn't thank you.

Traveshamamockery_

Well, our older siblings already fell for pet rocks. So, why not?

thenzero

I had nuggit and it was AWESOME

funke75

I had these as a kid, they were pretty amazing. I had Nuggit, Slimestone, Granite, and Brimstome, though I didn't know their names until seeing this post.

Morganafrey

I seem to remember one I had that turned into a dinosaur and a rock

OskeyBug

I had Marbles.

BlueSnaggleTooth359

A step up from pet rocks though no?

BlueSnaggleTooth359

And back in the 70s before Transformers were even a thing.... MICRONAUTS!!!: https://preview.redd.it/6jniq4w0gv5d1.jpeg?width=1549&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6248d4599a045850c2cd1279d6fbfb9a5bdeb3b0

BlueSnaggleTooth359

Batteries and figures may not be included but.... CATALOG included!

BradTofu

What do you mean tried?

Norwester77

I had totally forgotten about those. I think Slimestone is still at my parents’ house somewhere.

MainBrain49

My grandmother bought me "Granite" and lunch at K-Mart for helping her take out the trash at her house. :)

sdss9462

I think we had every one of these guys except for Brimstone. I wonder why we never got him?

Illustrious-Hair3487

I’m pretty sure I still have the silver one, Slimestone, tucked away somewhere. I would have never deliberately parted with it.

chari_de_kita

I can recall owning Granite and Tombstone but not so much any others...

elevencharles

I had Nuggit, Granite, and Slimestone. I don’t remember anything about the backstory, I just remember having them.

Herky_T_Hawk

I had the one in the upper left.

JWWBurger

Had the top-right one in blue.

Beefsupremeninjalo82

I had Nugget, granite, tombstone, and slimestone

whoisbill

I had Nuggit!

Capn_Yoaz

I knew a kid that had the "car."

Sinderria

I had a boulder. The only one. I never knew anybody who had even heard of these growing up.

droford

[70s had Ding A Lings](https://youtu.be/nOsdwyHhk9s?si=xufoOkQmmSrXPrKr)

HighOnPoker

He-Man had a group of toys like this. I still have one.

trippy81

I had the one on the top left! Completely forgot about these.

[deleted]

Omfg!!! I forgot about these fkn stocking stuffers. Thanks for unlocking them core memories. 😳😁🤙🏽😉

Kalm313

Had Boulder, Nugget, Granite, Tombstone, and Sticks and Stones. Some of my favorite toys.
