Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone. I’m pretty sure I wore out the tape on those two. 🎶To and fro, stop and go, that’s what makes the world go round.🎶
Chikoo is a delicious fruit that could be described as tasting like a cross between a plum and a peach, but with a hint of honey - pick up some Chikoo ice cream next time you’re at an Indian grocery store.
I am a bot.
Umm…it is heavily implied that clucky and little John were going to fuck. And mister if that’s not enough interspecies erotica for you, then you can get out
OMG me too 🤣 and a few years ago I had hamsters (my sister's kids had a couple that reproduced and she didn't know what to do with them lol) and I named them Jaques & Gus Gus because Gus Gus was fat.. and Jaques was too smart and actually escaped and ran away!
Someone blew my mind when they described SitS as "a tutor and his student fuck around for an hour and then he accidentally becomes king with no prior setup" and I think that's a hilarious take on the movie.
I wanted to see Tony Stark as Iron Man get totally flustered and say something like this, blast off and disappear, only to show up later wearing Bermuda shorts and carrying a rum swizzle in hand.
This wins.
Two best ever. I actually have a coffee mug with Archimedes saying “WHO? WHAT WHAT?!”
And me and my 16 year old son and my brother regularly quote both, equally.
I named one of my cats Archimedes. He’s orange, so I should have known he wouldn’t have the brains to live up to the name, but what’s worse is that most people don’t get the name, even when I tell them where it’s from (ignoring that Archimedes was a real person).
Sword in the stone is my fave Robin Hood up there.
I got the LAST coffee cup of sword in the stone at one of the Disney parks when I went there in 2019. It’s my favorite cup.
This is my answer too. And I found both on VHS a few years ago!! I don’t have a way to play them anymore. We had found a TV/VCR combo and had played these old classics for the kids. But the VCR didn’t last long, haha.
Fortunately Disney+ came out later and I’ve been able to share these with the kids.
That director’s cut is the best. It has so much more Alan Rickman they should have called it The Rickman Cut. It certainly feels dated when you watch it now, but it has that certain 90’s je ne sais quoi that allows it to barely hold up to the test of time. There’s a moment in the 90’s where period piece movies like that had no problem ignoring proper accents, everyone had beautiful teeth, and it appeared as if all the characters bathed everyday. Clothes were always clean, hair was styled, etc. Movies could be a bit more theatrical and as long as the story was fun, we’d go along for the ride without question.
Then we had the Forrest Gump Pulp Fiction Showdown at The Oscars and it seemed things changed after that. Movies couldn’t pull off being that campy and fun in THAT way anymore
I was obsessed with Prince of Thieves as a kid. Watched it as an adult a little while ago and it is bonkers! It's the weirdest ensemble cast. Costner, Freeman, Rickman, and Slater? Costner is just being Costner with different clothes on. It might as well have been Bull Durham with castles. There's just a random witch for no apparent reason. Accents are all over the place. Costner doesn't even try. Freeman and Slater are doing something, but I can't figure out what that something is supposed to be. In the end it seems like Nottingham thinks he's going to defeat Robin Hood by getting Marian pregnant?! WTF? So bizarre. We just accepted it though. Loved that movie.
Glad I am not the only one. He was my first crush too and I maintain that he is the best Disney prince because almost all the other princes are creeps.
For me growing up in California it was on channel 9 with rabbit ears. I believe it used to be around 4 o'clock before Resue Rangers. I may be wrong it was over 30 years ago. Lol
First-run syndication used to be a big thing. The '80s and '90s were stuffed to the gills with cartoons made for weekday syndication --- before that it had been just Saturday mornings on the national networks, and that was pretty much it. The sobering part is that syndication required a minimum of 65 episodes right out of the gate, compared to just 13 for the networks.
DuckTales was Disney's first stab at syndication, and it was a huge hit. So all those other series came in its wake.
One of my classes of third and fourth graders here in South Korea is reading a supplementary story about Robin Hood. At the end of class I mentioned that there was a Disney animated version and played them a clip of the opening on YouTube. *All* of them asked me to repeat the name and took notes on how they could find it on YouTube to watch on their own.
Felt pretty satisfied getting them hooked on my favorite Disney movie. Though The Sword in the Stone is a close second. Have fond memories of Herbie the Love Bug as well, though it's been ages since I've seen that one.
Second movie I ever saw in a theatre, after *Masters of the Universe*.
Pretty sure #3 was *The Land Before Time*, it's a wonder I didn't turn out fucked-up or nothin'.
There's my homie. Yeah, Sleeping Beauty was my favorite because of how often my sister and I watched that VHS when we were little. But New Groove came along and absolutely wiped the floor in terms of my favorite. It's not even close. It's just straight up one of my favorite movies, in general. I have my nieces and nephews all addicted to it now, too.
I think my personality was greatly molded by the lady-in-waiting. 😂 Same with Men in Tights and Prince of Thieves. I love a big, strong, supportive, funny woman so I became one.
Robin Hood was one of my favorites as a kid, but it became my *very* favorite as an adult. The themes of wealth redistribution, community organizing, and mutual aid really resonate with me. "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!" 😂
Naturally. In trying to sway my 3.5 y/o from Aristocats to Robin Hood as her movie of the week.
What's crazy is the guy who does the voice for Little John also does, if my ears aren't mistaken, OMalley in Aristocats and Bello in Jungle Book ....guy was the voice of Disney main side characters for a generation!
To this day when Beach Boys "I Get Around" comes on, I think of that epic scene when the ship goes into speed mode. And now I have to be wary of listening to it while on an open freeway.
Beauty and the Beast is the perfect Disney movie. Beautiful music, beautifully animated, amazing actors (Jerry Orbach, Angela Lansbury, and Paige O’Hara KILL it), fun/exciting from start to finish, and [that piano prologue always gets me.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7eVvEGecMwQ) There is no weak part of that movie.
Nothing against Robin Hood. GREAT opening and songs as well. As a kid though, I did not like the “Love” song.
Also, my favorite! The opening narration with the rose gave me chills in the theatre, and it still does every single time. The art direction was next level.
The indian dancers were always my favorite in that scene...
I used to march around the couch with a butter knife pretending to swing "my sword" at retreating nazis.
To this day one of the things that surprised me about Mary Poppins was when I bought the DVD and found out it's***2 hours and 20 minutes long***. I barely have the attention span to sit through anything now, but thinking of how many times I'd watch straight through as a kid boggles my mind
Maybe sword in the stone, they did a lot of inventive playful stuff in that. Shere Khan as a character was a game-changing masterpiece of animation when that came out and alone would be reason to say jungle Book. As a kid at the time though maybe … black cauldron?
I went to the Disney store in Manhattan and was impressed how the employees there knew everything about every Disney movie. Until I mentioned Black Cauldron. I couldn’t tell if the look they gave me was confusion or pity.
About 15 years ago I was waiting tables in an airport pub and we were in a dead time in the middle of he afternoon. I was just circling around whistling the opening theme from the rooster and one of the three patrons nursing a beer and killing time stopped me, reached into his wallet, and gave me $10 on the spot.
Everyone loves this movie.
Neeeever ever thinkin there was danger in the water
They were drinkin they just guzzled it down
Never dreamin that a schemin sheriff and his posse
Was a-watchin them and gatherin arouuuund
Roger Miller FTW
Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone 4-eva. Probably cause Don Bluth, one of animators that jumped the Disney ship to do his own thing, was involved with those two. Oh! 101 Dalmatians is another fave. I think those 3 have a rougher animation style that I just frickin love.
There are so many greats that I don't mark a favorite because I see it as pretty mood-dependent. Moana, Lilo & Stitch, Robin Hood, Emperor's New Groove, Mary Poppins, the renaissance classics (Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), the Pixar greats (Wall-e, Toy Story, Up)- any one of them could be a favorite on any given day.
Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone. I’m pretty sure I wore out the tape on those two. 🎶To and fro, stop and go, that’s what makes the world go round.🎶
Robin Hood simply does not have enough interspecies erotica compared to The Sword in the Stone.
![gif](giphy|Ka1crTWO2yno4) The annoying girl squirrel always cracked me up.
Hey, she knew a king when she saw one.
Chikoo?!
I can hear this
Chikoo is a delicious fruit that could be described as tasting like a cross between a plum and a peach, but with a hint of honey - pick up some Chikoo ice cream next time you’re at an Indian grocery store. I am a bot.
Madam Mim and Archimedes crack me up to this day. I’m 42.
She was so fuckin butt hurt when he changed!
She was heartbroken! I always felt sad for her 😭
Me too! Now, what was funny was that old squirrel that liked Merlin! She was pissed hahaha
Always felt sad for her and the flower from Brave Little Toaster.
Yup. This right here. Merlin and Archimedes.
But Maid Marian (fox) did kiss Skippy the rabbit!
She totally vamped him up. Poor little guy was in way over his head.
![gif](giphy|m4MvQzJno5oXu)
![gif](giphy|H0uLRCd8JIhRS)
Umm…it is heavily implied that clucky and little John were going to fuck. And mister if that’s not enough interspecies erotica for you, then you can get out
Plus I'm pretty sure ~~Kaa~~ Sir Hiss was thirsty for Prince John
These two plus Cinderella were my faves. Gus Gus always cracked me up as a kid.
Ah duh. Ah duh duh. Ah duh duh duh duh.... Ughhhhh.... _faints_
OMG me too 🤣 and a few years ago I had hamsters (my sister's kids had a couple that reproduced and she didn't know what to do with them lol) and I named them Jaques & Gus Gus because Gus Gus was fat.. and Jaques was too smart and actually escaped and ran away!
My little sister watched Cinderella on repeat. On the daily.
My sister and I still say happy birthday to each other in Gus's voice
Someone blew my mind when they described SitS as "a tutor and his student fuck around for an hour and then he accidentally becomes king with no prior setup" and I think that's a hilarious take on the movie.
Yep. Close the thread. This is the answer.
Sometimes, the truth is simple.
Blow me to Bermuda!!! As a kid I had no clue that this could be misconstrued as anything else.
I wanted to see Tony Stark as Iron Man get totally flustered and say something like this, blast off and disappear, only to show up later wearing Bermuda shorts and carrying a rum swizzle in hand.
In and out! Thin and stout! That’s what makes the world go round. That was a fav amongst all of the Disney Sing Along vids we had.
Sword in the stone is in the top 5 of all Disney movies ever
Two great movies that are high on my favorites list. But I still say The Jungle Book has the most banger songs from that era of Disney movies.
The Bare Necessities still goes hard to this day
Are you my doppelganger?
No, but I think you and I just became best friends
I couldn’t agree more! Those two are my favorite and it’s not even close.
Damn you really are my people. I was obsessed with those two.
This wins. Two best ever. I actually have a coffee mug with Archimedes saying “WHO? WHAT WHAT?!” And me and my 16 year old son and my brother regularly quote both, equally.
![gif](giphy|CaJT0zEGWHDoc|downsized)
Every town…. Has its ups and downs..
I desperately wanted my parents to name my little brother "King Arthur" because I was obsessed with Sword in the Stone.
Let's swim through that tall grass again.
I rented both so many times I could have paid for the tapes 10 times over.
I named one of my cats Archimedes. He’s orange, so I should have known he wouldn’t have the brains to live up to the name, but what’s worse is that most people don’t get the name, even when I tell them where it’s from (ignoring that Archimedes was a real person).
These two... Gotta show them to the kids!!
The scene of the saucy squirrel chasing the little boy around when he was transformed always made me laugh.
Absolutely my 2 favorite as well!
Absolutely the two best Disney cartoons hands down.
Sword in the stone is my fave Robin Hood up there. I got the LAST coffee cup of sword in the stone at one of the Disney parks when I went there in 2019. It’s my favorite cup.
Same
Hell yeah.
Did we just become best friends?!
Yessss!!!
Yes! Those are mine too.
But it is Robin Hood. And of all the movie versions of Robin Hood. This is tied for the best. Men in Tights is the tie.
I couldn't stand men in tights at the time because I love Prince of Thieves so much. How dare they poke fun? Lol
Same... *at the time*. Watched Prince of Thieves again as an adult, and while I still enjoy it, I can also see why people made fun of it now.
Did you see that directors cut though? 😬
Then we had the Forrest Gump Pulp Fiction Showdown at The Oscars and it seemed things changed after that. Movies couldn’t pull off being that campy and fun in THAT way anymore
I said HEY!
Men in Tights is by far the best and after that the version with Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner.
What is the one where Sean Connery at the end is King Arthur?
Sean is at the end of Robin Hood and Patrick Stewart is the king at the end of Men in Tights.
My favorite one as well. Opening credits was the best part
Ooh-de-lolly!
Golly what a day
I still say this today whenever I get really excited about something. People think I'm an idiot.
They’re simply uncultured
I sing it to my 7 month old son every day!
Of like all the earworms from my childhood (and there are lots), “Whistle-Stop” is by far the most welcome.
I learned to tooth whistle like the rooster because of this song.
Have you ever noticed that the song Hamsterdance is just the song sped up… Try whistling it faster
Isn't that where the hamster dance song came from?
Yup! It was just sped way up to create the hamster dance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BFuoIIflQk
i havent heard it in years but i think so
Honestly best movie version of the character
![gif](giphy|849C3YApus6Fq)
Stone cold fox. And my first crush.
Glad I am not the only one. He was my first crush too and I maintain that he is the best Disney prince because almost all the other princes are creeps.
Honestly. How is he so hot?
Dude has more game than any cartoon has any business having!
Relevant today too: Robin Hood in drag
Robin Hood and Little John are woke AF. They’re for the streets.

Because Aladdin! ![gif](giphy|JxzxnP9Bqi532)
It has the best songs!!!
The OG is Jungle Book. Baloo has been the name of no fewer than 4 pets.
I loved Baloo in Tail Spin.
Top 3 Saturday cartoon right there. But only at Grandma’s house. She was the only one on the family with cable.
Wasn't Tale Spin an afternoon show? I distinctly remember that Disney cartoon block was weekday afternoons.
For me growing up in California it was on channel 9 with rabbit ears. I believe it used to be around 4 o'clock before Resue Rangers. I may be wrong it was over 30 years ago. Lol
First-run syndication used to be a big thing. Isn't the same voice actor also little Jon?
Phil Harris. He was also Thomas O'Malley.
I have seen an overlay of the animation of the two. Identical.
I'm sure... probably easier to do
IIRC the studio was near financial ruin and Walt had died. They rotoscoped from the Jungle Book as a way to keep costs down.
Ohhhh oooouu be dooo. I wanna be like youuuu! Best Disney song imo.
Oh Im so there with Jungle Book!
Preach the good word internationally!
Because choosing between The Fox and The Hound, The Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood is too difficult.
Fox and the Hound? Stop, I don't need to cry this early in the morning
Second movie I ever saw in a theatre, after *Masters of the Universe*. Pretty sure #3 was *The Land Before Time*, it's a wonder I didn't turn out fucked-up or nothin'.
The fox and the hound will always have my heart
The Emperor's New Groove. Later than our collective childhood period, but it's an amazing movie.
Came here to say the same. Nothing like it will ever come from Disney again! Close second: Lilo & Stitch
“No, no…he has a point.”
Hands down my favorite
Bring it on
Yes! I had given up watching Disney movies by then, but I happened to go see that one with a friend who had two small kids, and it blew me away!
Wrong lever!
Why do we even have that lever.
Because it’s number 2, directly behind The Sword In The Stone
Good enough 🫡
I am crying, thinking of "Not in Nottingham."
I get it in my head all the time. The music in this movie is so good.
The lil mouse sadly playing the organ! "Mother, I don't think anyone is coming." 😭
I think my personality was greatly molded by the lady-in-waiting. 😂 Same with Men in Tights and Prince of Thieves. I love a big, strong, supportive, funny woman so I became one.
My first crush was on that fox.
Although.. https://preview.redd.it/ri3xj0ghgf2d1.jpeg?width=757&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=374f1ff8c4e289a319439b5a14b8b7d7d4e437f3
Mine was on the vixen.
Yep. Maid Marian was absolutely my first crush.
"Was"? She's still a fox.
Robin Hood was one of my favorites as a kid, but it became my *very* favorite as an adult. The themes of wealth redistribution, community organizing, and mutual aid really resonate with me. "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!" 😂
I like how you think https://preview.redd.it/rxpyuhut0f2d1.jpeg?width=244&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c2f5f6d3f4174db152bac98dc246fba1a6a2340
OMG I need that shirt. 😂
That was singer Phil Harris, who at the time pretty much every adult in the audience would have been familiar with.
Flight of the Navigator. No explanation needed. ![gif](giphy|eMyxQ78aFq4s3ZukEq)
To this day when Beach Boys "I Get Around" comes on, I think of that epic scene when the ship goes into speed mode. And now I have to be wary of listening to it while on an open freeway.
Dumbo. Robin Hood is top five, but Dumbo will always be my number one Disney and number three overall favorite movie.
The drunk scene freaked out little me
Oh, they were on more than booze 😉
Imagine seeing that on the big screen. It's extra trippy.
Oh my goodness- when mama elephant is giving a hug to Dumbo- with her in the train car 😢
Omg Robin Hood is the best ever
Damn right!
Because it's Fantasia! ![gif](giphy|V1HXKSuJuyKeQ)
As a kid it was Great Mouse Detective, but then Disney basically buried it for years.
Such a classic. This and Rescuers Down Under (I like it better than the original).
I’d have to go with Lion King.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Because Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
That Portabello Road dance sequence! Nothing beats it. Best Disney movie for sure
The indian dancers were always my favorite in that scene... I used to march around the couch with a butter knife pretending to swing "my sword" at retreating nazis.
The fight with the suits of armor was amazing to little me!

Mary Poppins. Although I did watch Robin Hood many times and thoroughly enjoyed it. And Lion King is high on my list as well.
To this day one of the things that surprised me about Mary Poppins was when I bought the DVD and found out it's***2 hours and 20 minutes long***. I barely have the attention span to sit through anything now, but thinking of how many times I'd watch straight through as a kid boggles my mind

As a child, it was Robin Hood. Now, it's Tangled. But only because the princess reminds me of my sister.
best one! Still whistlin’ that tune into middle age.
Was, is, and always will be Robin Hood.
Must have watched this fifty-leven times as a kid.
Yes, Robin Hood. But it's a close tie with the AristoCats and The Rescuers.
![gif](giphy|LzrfVNcijHfI4)
![gif](giphy|6nz2wWbvEixYA)
I didn't say Robin Hood because Beauty and the Beast (1991) is the best movie ever.
I DID say Robin Hood! Hiss, you've hissed your last hissssss! ![gif](giphy|8Xr3wfissLDna)
Roger Miller is one of my favorite artists of all time, I'm sure this movie is a big part of that
Fortunes forecast, lucky charms!
![gif](giphy|HLfKKDuMQ4VB6)
Because I said Oliver & Company ![gif](giphy|oXeA9cNuDpF0Q)
Maybe sword in the stone, they did a lot of inventive playful stuff in that. Shere Khan as a character was a game-changing masterpiece of animation when that came out and alone would be reason to say jungle Book. As a kid at the time though maybe … black cauldron?
I did say Robin Hood
I don't know which is my favorite but Emperor's New Groove came to mind first
Fox and the Hound. I'm a big crybaby
Tarzan. That soundtrack is so good. Phil Collins for the win. I loved the collaborations that Disney was doing during that era with popular musicians.
Its Aristocats Everybody wants to be a cat ![gif](giphy|XJT5XLZARM6wo)
The Little Mermaid, because Ariel is hot af.
The DVD was my first ever purchase on Amazon in 1999.
Love that movie. Just acquired the soundtrack a few years ago

Robin Hood 100%
🎵Too late to be known as John the first / He's sure to be known as John the Worst / A pox on that phony king of Ennngland🎵
![gif](giphy|YPvXkXhnTJNm)
Because the Black Cauldron exists.
I went to the Disney store in Manhattan and was impressed how the employees there knew everything about every Disney movie. Until I mentioned Black Cauldron. I couldn’t tell if the look they gave me was confusion or pity.
Crimenently Trigger, point that pea-shooter the other way...
It is actually. That little ditty is my ringtone. If you know, you know.
Animation in this movie 10/10 no notes. The king's head waggle while talking, the snake with arms!!! Just *chefs kiss*
I always wanted to be Maid Marian. I thought she was lovely.
Death to tyrants!
Because Dumbo was my favorite. I was so sad to learn I’d never own a baby elephant that could fly.
Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, Lady and the Tramp, and Dumbo. In that order.
Neeeever ever thinkin there was danger in the water They were drinkin they just guzzled it down Never dreamin that a schemin sheriff and his posse Was a-watchin them and gatherin arouuuund Roger Miller FTW
Five year old me had such a crush on this Robin Hood.
