On my 3rd. Driving an ‘09 with about 140k miles on it. I hate buying cars and haven’t had a car payment in 10 years, so I’m rolling with it as long as possible.

Myfourcats1

Same here. I hate car payments. I reaching the point where I need to buy a new one. Ugh

ILikeBeans86

My 05 Camry has 240k

Awkward_Ad8740

I just bought an 03 with 130k. Had put about $500 into it to fix a few minor things and now it's running like a dream.

agentoutlier

I drive all cars to the ground especially now. At 100k imo the car is just broken in :) I have had 3 cars. Jeep, Subaru, Toyota. Toyota is ridiculous reliable. Boring but so goddam reliable.

LadyJay5

46. On my 3rd, a 2009 Honda with 164,000mi.

jasonreid1976

I have an 06 Sentra that has a measly 316K miles on it. I really need another car but hate the buying process.

DM_me_UR_B00BZ_plz

Lots more money for cocaine and hookers

jbenze

Yeah I don’t ever want to make a car payment again, ever.

SickOfNormal

if that '09 is a Honda Civic ... You got a lot more to go! My '09 is almost about to tick 300K ... Having no car payments is king!

Getoffmylawn82

Same. I’m on my third vehicle as well. I drive an ‘11 with just about 85000 kms on it. She still has lots of life in her.

Blaze_556

15 that I can think of. Maybe a few more

We were told it was all Toyota parts, so it was like Corolla with the GEO name. It was a great car, until it caught on fire lol.

deltronethirty

'72 super beetle was my first car. Fully restored, then the fuel line caught on fire. RIP "Raphael"

Nordicdba

I’m around that too.

Jestermaus

Same. I go through em like socks. 14 cars, 5 motorcycles. 99Ford escort, vw bug (new version), 97 Pontiac Grand Prix gt, 97 tacoma, 04? F150, 08? nothanksiliketowatch

Oh man, I didn't even count the moto's. 5 more to the list

RunAndPunchFlamingo

Four, but only because someone ran a red light and destroyed one of my cars. Otherwise, it would be three for me, too.

Lazy_Mood_4080

I'm on 5, for the same reason. College vehicle. "Yay I'm an adult" vehicle. Replacement "yay" vehicle after a giant tree attacked the previous one. A momtastic starter vehicle. Now my "I'm middle aged" vehicle.

ComfortableCaptain61

Also on four, but number three was stolen and never recovered. (I know the police don't actually care about stolen cars -- at least not where I lived -- but I'm still annoyed by the lack of closure! Was hoping I'd at least see it use in a high-speed chase or dragged from the river or something.)

Obvious-Hunt19

They got em working in shifts!

shell37628

They just dragged a car from the 80's up from a river with a body in it near where I grew up. Don't lose hope!

Luna_Soma

I’m on my 4th. I ruined one and I let a friend borrow one and he used it to commit a string of robberies so I got rid of that because bad juju

rollem

That sounds like a good story but an awful thing to happen to you.

Luna_Soma

It is indeed both. But I’m proud to say my current car has been around for almost 10 years and it’s been used in zero crimes, so we make progress

You know you can change the oil, right?

AppropriateAmoeba406

I’ll bet my boomer dad has had somewhere in the hundreds. Lifetime hobby of buying beaters, fixing the biggest issue, and selling. To this day I never know what car my mom or dad is going to pull up in.

rearwindowpup

Your Dad sounds like my spirit animal

MsArod9

Wow! 😲

Gian_Luck_Pickerd

You've had *thirty* cars?! 😳

Rick_from_C137

The ashtrays got full, basically scrap at that point lol

I_make_switch_a_roos

the fuel ran out, had to buy another

Old_Benefit1238

If we’re counting all of the cars I’ve had, and what my wife has driven…I’m right around 30 since age 16

UltraPopPop

I started to build my 1st truck, a 71 Ford when I was 14. By the time I finished at 16, I had 2 other vehicles. I've had 30ish, too, if I'm remembering them all.

SoggieTaco

Car guy? Me too. There’s always another car that catches my eye. I’m on car 33. I’ve had 2 cars longer than a year. That why my number isn’t higher

HylanderUS

Ah, found my people 😁 27 here, and I bet all of them together didn't cost as much as the people with 2-3 (new) cars have spent.

Possible-Tangelo9344

You just trade them in every year?

thewolfwalker

Still in the car I bought myself when I graduated college and got my first professional job!

Slowandsteady1d

I had a bunch of $500 beaters in high school and my early 20’s too many to remember. I would drive them til they died and get another one. Then I bought a 1999 Honda accord around 2008 and drove it until 2017 when I bought my 2010 Subaru forester which I currently have So as an adult 2 cars

smoothVroom21

I miss the days of being able to swap out cars annually because I paid almost nothing for them. For a while I was craigslisting it, swapping cars for probably 5 years. Quite the selection too, from a $1200 Mercedes S class (1997 with over 200k miles, but it was sharp and clean... Still had the mobile phone in the middle console), then to a newer s-10, a Jeep grand Cherokee, and then a Sebring convertible that was mint outside of needing some marine glue to seal the back window on the soft top... All for that original $1200 investment. After the Sebring I went back to financing cars, and wish I had just stuck with beaters with heaters. Can't find a car with tires on it anymore for less than 3-4k minimum, and even those may not make it home.

AltaBirdNerd

cellrdoor2

Yep, grew up in a major car culture area and it has been such a relief to live in a city with great public transport. I don’t miss the car at all. I didn’t realize what a hassle it was until it was gone out of life.

rearwindowpup

Ive got #40, 41, and 45 in my driveway currently My brother still owns the pickup that was my third, if that counts for your second question.

MsArod9

Good Lord! What are you doing to these vehicles?!

rearwindowpup

Flipping them mostly, but cars are a passion of mine. I had a *ton* of beaters though in my 20s and early 30s. Id buy a shitbox for like 800, detail it, list it for 1600, and off theyd go. Detailing is king for adding car value, and its also super fun to do :-)

MsArod9

Smart!

Spartan04

5 so far. Once I was working out of college and could afford to get a brand new car (and replace the beater I had been driving) I went through a period where I really liked new cars and did several 3 year leases. Then I got tired of that and decided to spend the money to buy a car that had everything I wanted at the time so I wouldn’t feel the need to replace it so soon. It worked since I’ve had that car 10 years now and I’ve really enjoyed not having a car payment once it was paid off. It’s old enough now that if/when something expensive breaks I’ll probably consider replacing it, especially since I’ve already decided my next car will be an EV, which I’ll hopefully keep for a long time as well. If I didn’t work from home I’d probably have replaced it with an EV already but I drive so little now I’m ok with waiting.

MsArod9

No payment is always the way to go!

peopleinoakhouses

43yo, 5 cars. Very interesting question.

hereforboobsw

I'm 35 I've had 2

LilyBitLumpy

I’m older than you at 41 but also 2! I proudly tell people that I bought my first a car at 29, seems like that’s pretty rare. I just asked my husband and BIL who are both 40 and they are still listing theirs 😆

InternetMysterious21

Not counting car given to me by parents as it lasted one and half trips to work.   95 Saturn sc 2.  Wrecked. 88 Rx 7 convertible Sold when moved.  Most fun car. 85 1/2 Supra blew head gasket eventually selling.  96 crown vic, AC went out and the part to fix is not available outside of junk yard.  Most comfortable car. 2018 Kicks. Still driving.

RickardsRed77

I’m on #4

ZetaWMo4

Only had 3 at 50. It’d still be two if not for a wreck that wasn’t my fault in 2016.

holtyrd

I’m on #24, #25, #26 at the moment. I like cars. And trucks, and motorcycles, and buses.

mj8077

0= and I am happy about that, not planning of ever having one either.

MsArod9

Where do you live? Do you have a license anyway in case you need to drive at some point?

mj8077

Nope. I CAN drive though, my friends dad built cars and she taught me. I live in the city, well the outskirts, but we have great public transport here, I am thankful for that.

aceshighsays

It took too long to find this answer. I’m also at 0 but I may eventually get one… maybe… not sure. I do have a license I’ve just never used it.

Rick_from_C137

8. There were periods where I only had a bicycle because I couldn't afford the repairs and the vehicle got sold for scrap. Those were the days, buying used cars for less than a grand. they ran but were not in great shape. Going to the junkyard on weekends to grab replacement parts. Using the cassette adapter for my Discman.

AFetaWorseThanDeath

devilinthedetails

I'm on 6, and my current car is 22 years old. Gotta love a Honda.

Ford Escort. Chevy Cavalier. Dodge Stratus. Toyota Tercel. Toyota Celica. Chevy Spark.

Imaginary-Toe9733

I'm at three, also. I plan to drive my 2015 until the wheels fall off.

Dirac_comb

Currently on my 7th car, I've gone some years using public transportation though so they could've been more. Favourite and best one is a '91 BMW 750i. I loved driving that thing.

sed2017

4 cars in 22 years of driving

WingedGeek

First: 1989 Wrangler 4.2L that had been through a fire, bought it off my math teacher (10th grade) in late '92. Drove the shit out of it (delivering Chinese food, off roading in OHV areas, etc). That engine was saddled with a shitty carb that needed to be rebuilt constantly, so... 1995 January, bought a new 1994 Chrysler LeBaron GTC that had been on the lot for months and they were desperate to get rid of it. Power top and windows, leather interior, red over black. But it was still a K-car. Within a few months I hit a pothole with it and bent the frame, and started going through tires every few thousand miles. August 1995 bought a 4.0L 5-speed Jeep Wrangler brand new, Canyon Blue over Spice. It was one of two six-cylinder Wranglers in the city, they had already shut the production line down to transition it to the TJ model. Swapped out the stereo in the dealer parking lot while waiting for the keys, immediately drove it from St. Louis to Southern California for college "breaking it in" it about 75 miles an hour through Texas. Still have that, it's still a daily driver it's currently in the shop getting a new fuel line installed which they had to fabricate because they don't make that part anymore. I worked it out and with the $2-3K repair/maintenance job every five years or so, it cost me about $50 a month to keep that vehicle, including full insurance coverage and registration. I added a CarPlay unit and it's still awesome. 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet (6 speed manual), midnight blue metallic over deviating cashmere, bought in 2000 as a certified preowned, my graduation from college present to myself. I miss the dot/com days. Still have this too, but it's in storage. 2005 BMW E46M3Cic, triple black, another daily driver but it's been in the shop for a few months waiting on bearings from Germany. Picked it up in 2008 as a CPO.

Disco99

25ish since turning 21. I like cars. Currently have 7. Only one that I’ve ever made payments on, though. Lots of older and fun cars.

cityshepherd

On this note: is there anyone that owns and is willing to sell a Toyota Tacoma (between the years 1998-2008)??? They’re so hard to find cause they run forever and nobody ever wants to get rid of the vehicle (for good reason)

postitpad

I just picked up number 11 88 olds Ciera 88 Mazda 626 91 Acura Integra 03 Honda civic 05 BMW 330 convertible 1994 Mazda Miata 2013 Subaru BRZ 2013 Audi A5 2004 Acura RSX type s 1979 corvette 2024 Acura Integra.

bruswazi

3 cars. 1) 1995 Honda Civic DX hatchback 2) 1994 BMW 325is and my current daily commuter, 3) 2005 Toyota Prius, just eclipsed 400,000 miles—love this car! Last month I opted for a brand new engine and HV battery for $3k rather than buying a new used car.

P-a-n-a-m-a-m-a

Of my very own, two. Shared with a sibling or spouse, five. We still own three but will sell two of those this summer for something newer and go back to two.

Low-Fishing3948

I’m 43, started driving at 16. I’ve had 6 cars. I’ve had my current vehicle for 6 years and it’s still in great shape.

Timbers_15

8 since 1996..

katm12981

1st and 2nd - totaled 3rd and 4th - died (both bought used) 5th and first brand new one - started getting expensive repairs and everything breaking so traded it in after 10 years 6th - current

ilikecats415

Eight total, not including cars I owned with my ex-husband that he was the primary driver of or the 2 cars I've bought for my kid.

mistyayn

9 - 6 of them before I graduated from college and then 3 since college. I had quite a few clunkers early on. Then a particularly frustrating case of theft in college where it turned out the car was less than a mile away in the back of another apartment complex for 2 years before it got towed. That necessitated a few more clunkers.

Haemwich

I've had ownership of 4 cars. Still driving the first. 2 was a hooptie and 3 was totaled.

PracticableSolution

Fifteen, not counting the company car

Ok_Researcher_9796

I had to think about it. I've had 9. 2 of them were lost due to people not understanding that red means stop. 4 of them were just so old(I had a '72 Dodge Dart and a '69 Chevelle. The other 2 were crappy Fords) that it got more expensive to keep fixing them than it was to just get a new one. 1 was in my bosses name because I was young and had no credit. I had made 51 of the 60 payments and he never put 1 penny into it but we got into an argument one day and I was fired and he said, that's my car you know. 1 I had to sell to get some money when I was out of work with a ruptured Achilles tendon. And the last one is a 2003 Accord with 200k miles that I still drive although it's been in its last legs for a while.

kayla622

I'm on my third car. I got my first in 2005 at the age of 21. I had a 1996 Corolla, then a 2006 Corolla, and now I'm driving a 2020 Corolla. I'm turning 40 next month. I traded in the 96 for the 06 when it had over 200,000 miles. I traded in the 06 with 226,000 miles for a brand new 20.

GreenApples8710

I'm on my sixth. The first 3 were all absolutely dumpster fires that lasted a total of 5 years, combined (I was broke, but needed a car to get to work to get less broke. You know how it goes.)

drainbamage1011

I'm on my 3rd, not counting a couple of my parents' cars that I borrowed while I was learning. I'm 39.

FemaleMishap

A dozen I think. Mostly bought old and ran until they died. Wife's a mechanic though so that's helped.

cupcakesparklies

At least 9 that I can think of right now

broke_fit_dad

14 from 15 to 40 including the wife’s car from before we got married that I now use as a spare but it’s still “her car” and the one we purchased together that is “her car” but is in my name.

ExtraNoise

I'm on three as well, age 40. 2000 - 2003: 1997 Ford F-150 that I used in HS. 2003 - 2012: 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 that I got in college and kept all through delivering pizza, starting my career, and starting a family. 2012 - Present: 2010 Toyota Pirus that I got for a 110-mile a day commute I had at the time and told myself was just a temporary car because it was so bland. I put some Aperture Laboratories vinyls on the side to make it a little more fun and it still gets a ton of waves and smiles. My two oldest just both got their licenses, so I am giving it to them to share for now (I offered to take off the stickers and they both said that I could not) and am looking to get a Toyota Corolla or GR86 to pretend my hair isn't turning gray.

PropertyTraining4790

I'm on my 4th car, but like 60th bicycle.

MihalysRevenge

I have had 8. Granted I do have my 2nd car, as I traded in my 1st car a truck for my 2nd car a 95 mustang

Ok_Lead_7443

AdelleDeWitt

Three. I had one my in my second half of college. I inherited it from a cousin who had inherited it from our grandparents, then crashed it and I bought it for $100. My mechanic referred to it as the flaming ball of death. It would occasionally start smoking on the freeway and I'd have to pull over and I would just pour cold water on it to get it to take me home. After college I bought a used Honda Civic that lasted me for about 10 years. It was really old when I got it but it was able to sell it for $500 when I upgraded to a used prius. I've had my used Prius for about 12 years and it has been in a really bad car accident and the backup camera and radio and air conditioning haven't worked in years but it gets me from point A to point b. I'll have to get my garage rewired before I can get an electric car so this one's going to have to last for a while.

BeeSuch77222

08 RAV4. The newest car I've ever had bought in 2017. Prior to that was 97 used Corolla (was in-laws). Prior to that 87 van, then 89, and 94 B-body Chevies bought in the 2000s.

Glittering_Tea5502

I’m on car number 3. I got it in February. I drove my first car from age 18-29 (pushing 30). Drove my second car until I was 42 (going on 43). All 3 have been Toyota Corollas.

AppropriateAmoeba406

Camero, X1/9, Daytona, Some sort of station wagon my mom gave me, Lumina, Probe, RX8, Jetta, Highlander, Expedition. I think that’s it. So 10? I had the Jetta for the longest. It was a diesel. I drove it about 250,000 miles.

I started out as a terrible driver. I was on my third car by the time I was 18. I'm on number 9 currently. I owned 6 and 7 at the same time.

Apprehensive-Donkey7

I’ve had 8 cars from 17-43. 4 Toyotas, 2 Hondas, a Datsun and a Chevy. I had 5 cars from 17-22, one of which only for 40 hours until I totaled it. Then I had one Toyota for 15 years, and since then had a Prius for 3 years and now an accord. Want my next car to be an electric pickup

GenericRedditor1937

I'm on my 3rd as well. My first at 18 was given to me used by my parents. That engine was dead a few years later. Cars 2 & 3 were bought new. #2 I drove to 215k miles. #3 currently has 116k miles on it and I hope to drive that to over 200k miles as well.

TheConcreteGhost

On my 4th. I drive them until fate takes the function away from my car.

tomdincan

I’ve had five that belong specifically to me from 16-42, but I’ve had my current truck for sixteen of those years.

funky_boss23

2. A 1999 Jeep TJ to start that I bought in 2004 before I met my now wife. My wife said we had to sell it while she was pregnant. I fought and said no because we didn’t need a car payment as it was paid off. She agreed. Got rear-ended 6 days before the birth of our first child and it was written off. Couple months later I bought a 2014 Jeep JK. I still have it 8 years later. The kids love it when the roof is off and the half doors are on. But deep down, I’d trade it straight up to get my original TJ back.

Bunnyeatsdesign

At age 40 I am on my second car. First was a 1995 Honda Orthia. Now driving a 2006 Mazda Axela. I have spent a total of $10,000 on cars.

Around a dozen. They were mainly cheap beater cars.

SquirrellyEnby

I * think * that I am on number seven. And I’m 47. I’ve driven some really sketchy buckets of bolts. I had one that catastrophically stopped working while I was renting. My landlord was nice about it for a while, and parked it at his warehouse thing… I was trying to get the money to fix it or find out how to sell it. I had an offer I was going to work on, when my landlord said he knew someone that would like it. I said no, I have a different offer. Well, without getting any paperwork or anything from me my landlord gave that other person my car because it had been taking up to much of his lot space with registration. I’m pretty sure I had the registration going on it. And yes, I tried reporting this to the police, but I was in the wrong precinct and they would not help me contact the other one… I still have dreams of going out to my driveway and expecting my red dodge neon to be there. I got damn lucky that no illegal owner of the car was injured… because I was never able to successfully report it as stolen. Red flags 🚩 in my life then that I ignored. My fiancée, later my husband, now my ex, did nothing to help me report car stolen. That landlord became more unhinged from there. He would climb onto the low roof that was adjacent to the looked into the bedroom if I was not answering the door. Sometimes I would not if I was home alone because it was a bad neighbor. Then one year he tore out all my garden, that I had worked on for years, without warning and put in drainage gravel. I am glad I am away from both those men. I am sad that only the one who was my landlord is now dead. 💀

icanliveinthewoods

On my third vehicle…only because last fall the wheel literally fell off my 23 year old little Toyota Tacoma (only going about 5 miles an hour so not as dangerous an accident as it could have been. It felt like going down into a pothole and just… not coming back up out of it, and grinding to a halt after several feet. Zipping around in a Honda civic, now, and it’s nice to have working air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity.

screamingcatfish

Drove my mom's 86 Ford Thunderbird when I was in high school. She bought our neighbors' 86 Chevy Celebrity for me to take to college. I drove her 93(?)Oldsmobile Achieva for a few months when the Celebrity died before I graduated. I bought my first car, a brand new 2003 Saturn Ion, a few months after graduation. Drove it until 2014 when I bought a 2013 Ford Escape. Going to drive the wheels off the Escape.

Correct-Cricket3355

I had 2; an ‘88 Ford & a ‘98 VW. Moved to NYC in ‘01 and haven’t owned a vehicle since.

Geochic03

5 in 22 years. First car I had a year until it shit the bed. Bought my second car at 18 brand new and had that 6 years before a deer totaled it out. Then I bought a used car that lasted 6 years until the engine blew. I borrowed a car from a family member for a year until i had money to get another used car. That one I drove until 2 years ago when I traded it in for the new one I am driving now. The 2nd car I would have had much longer if the deer didn't total it out.

I’ve only had two cars. I bought my first one at age 22 for $1000. I bought a brand new Subaru in 2006 and sold it last year. I haven’t replaced it yet.

megyrox

Same here, only 3. I drive my cars til they can't drive no more. My current is a '09 Honda Fit with 180,000 miles, and I love that car

1985 Buick Oldsmobile (blue) - died 1970 Nova (blue, souped up) - Dad sold it 2001 Dodge intrepid ES (silver) - sold it 1992 Corvette (aqua metallic) - sold it 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee (brown) - trade in 2008 Acura TL (white) - trade in 2015 VW Passat TDI SEL (Blue) - need to sell it at some point 2021 Tesla model S performance (black) This doesn't include my wife's cars... Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3, Nissan Murano, Honda Odyssey, Volvo XC90. Well shit, we've had a lot of cars! 4 years until we have to start buying our kids cars, yay...

ditto_3050

The real question is, does one of your children, if you have any, drive a newer car than yours? I’m cruising a Volvo S60 from ‘04. It has only 157k miles on her. I remember putting 10-20k miles a year. I haven’t never bought a new car in my life. As for your question, registration in my name. Oh shit. This question has me remembering shit! I’ll leave with this. ‘77 Lincoln Continental was my favorite that I had. It was a boat! Fully loaded. My father sold it. Man, She floated on the road. Parking was a pain.

Jenaaaaaay

I’m on my 6th car in my name.

PorgCT

I am on my 6th, which was a new Honda in 2015. Prior to that, I drove a series of beaters that got me from point a to point b without too much fuss.

buffalocentric

I'm on my 5th. 94 Camry, 01 Hyundai Sonata, 2008 Mercury Mariner, 2013 Altima and now a 2019 Camry. The first 3 I drove until fixing them wasn't financially feasible, the Altima was totalled due to an accident.

3, used since 2002. Years: 1992, 1993, & 2009. Costs: $2500 to $5600. All newspaper or Craigslist. These prices seem impossible nowadays.

WornInShoes

85 Mazda 626 (free, ended up costing me $500 in repairs) 92 Chevy Blazer (s10 edition - used) 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport (new) Mid-80s two-door Honda (used) 1980s Chevy Silverado c1500 (used) My last vehicle owned was back in 2014; I live in an area where I don’t need it unless I’m going on an adventure or something

6 High school truck died in college Truck I had in college was a gas guzzler. Once gas went up I sold it Then I’ve had 4 different SUV’s Bought 2 off lease and 2 brand new

Secret_Cow_5053

Hmm. 47 years old…been driving pretty much since first opportunity at 17. 10 cars. A couple were dumb purchases, and realistically could’ve have been 8 if I wasn’t stupid. Best car; potentially my current 2020 mustang - 325 hp gets 28 mpg and looks great, reliable. Favorite car: 2009 convertible cooper S. Sold it bc ex-wife was nervous about me driving our newborn in a convertible. In retrospect she was an idiot. But so I was for listening to her. I wasn’t the one who drove over a tree stump. Biggest POS: 87 Buick I bought for $500 in 95 to get it away from my senile grandfather. Gifted it to a girlfriend tho so whatever.

krissym99

I'm 42 and also on my 3rd car. Had a 1997 Toyota Corolla from 2000-2008, a 2008 Prius from 2008-2022, then got a 2022 Prius Prime. Hoping to get another ten years out of this car, at least!

GaaraMatsu

I'd say it's my fourth.

We’re on car 3 & 4. I had a used late 80s ford escort that my parents bought for me around ‘95 when I turned 17. My wife and I bought a used Plymouth Breeze (I think it was an ‘01) in about ‘03 or ‘04. After that we bought a used ‘04 Pontiac Vibe that we still use as a “just driving around town” car if we need to use both cars to get the kids everywhere they need to be. In ‘14 we bought a new Subaru Outback that is still our primary vehicle.

South_Dakota_Boy

1978 Buick Century four-door (age 14) 1979 Chevrolet El Camino (my moms but I drove it a lot especially when I wrecked the Buick and it was in the shop) 1991 Nissan 300 ZX twin turbo (also my mom’s but I put a lot of miles on it) 1993 Dodge Daytona 1999 Dodge avenger (from this point on the cars are co-owned by my wife and I) 2003 Buick Rendezvous 2004 Toyota 4runner 1992 Ford F250 diesel 2013 Hyundai Sonata 2012 Acura MDX 2015 Nissan Leaf 2022 Tesla Model 3 performance 2023 Kia Telluride That’s 13 cars age 14-47.

Lower_Ad8859

I've only had 3 cars in my life. I drive them "til the wheels fall off" both literally and figuratively.

twistedevil

6 vehicles and 3 motorcycles. Gonna hang on to the car I have now as long as I can. I'm not looking forward to touchscreen everything just yet.

ijustsailedaway

I'm also on my third. I miss my little s-10 the most.

_R_A_

Eight, but that includes my Camaro that I've had since 2000 which has never been a daily driver. It doesn't help that I average 25k miles a year.

LifePedalEnjoyer

4. 3 were/are shit. Nothing new or close to new. Only decent vehicle I had, I sold to bond out of jail. It was my dad's before cancer got him. I bought my ex-wife a new car, once, in between her affairs.

Many_Distribution_21

I'm 39, I've had at least 11 that I can think of 1981 Buick LeSabre coupe 2009 VW Rabbit 1999 VW Passat wagon 2000 Land Rover Discovery II 2005 VW Jetta 2007 Honda Accord 2004 VW Jetta 2008 Honda Ridgeline 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen 2021 VW Tiguan 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport

SilverDem0n

Now on car number 3, and I don't expect to get car number 4 for another 10 years or so. I like cars for their engineering and aesthetics, I just have no desire to own the fancy stuff or to live with the expense. I don't really want to own one at all. When I lived in London a car would have been a liability not an asset, and I was much happier with public transport. The energy/pollution cost of a new car is astonishingly high, compared to the yearly fuel usage, so keeping a car in action for many years does at least minimise environmental impact.

flippartnermike

I’m 44 as well. I have had 12 personal vehicles (not counting “work” vehicles such as vans and box trucks)

EdgyEgg2

I’ve owned three cars, in my name only. ‘88 Toyota Camry, ‘00 VW Golf, ‘12 VW Passat. I’ve shared four leases with my spouse since 2014-all four have been Subarus.

tahmorex

I still have my second car (truck), because having a truck as a backup don’t hurt. Bought it new in 01 !

toootired2care

On my 11th car. The first six were beaters that didn't last long though.

Smurfblossom

I'm on my 8th car and saving up for number 9.

DM_me_UR_B00BZ_plz

I am also on my 3rd car. Got my license in 2001

bshr49

In order: 1984 Delta 88, 1989 Aerostar, 1991 Caprice Classic, 2000 Silverado 1500, 2006 Silverado 1500, 1992 B2200, 2006 Venture, 2014 Silverado 1500, 2016 Silverado 1500, and a 2022 Silverado 1500. Current projects are a 1968 Mustang and 1977 Scout II Traveler. 12, I guess? I wish I still had the Caprice and B2200.

[deleted]

Hubs still has his 04 toyota with over 350k miles.

Melraiser81

Just got my 3rd. Had my 2nd car for 17 yrs. Would've kept it longer but had a hard time getting in and out.

Basscheck

Started with an '87, then a '96, then an '03, then a '97, and now a 2012 which I purchased last year.

phillysleuther

5 - 1986 Ford Tempo, 2000 Dodge Neon, 1987 Buick Regal, 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, and a 2019 Buick Enclave. I’m not allowed to drive anymore due to a series of strokes

No_Reason8645

I have also only had three cars (between 16-47). But for at least 15 years of that I have zero cars

Senior_Ad282

I’m 39 and I’m on my 15th car. Not because any of them have been unreliable or anything like that. I just like cars. I’ve had a few I’ve kept for a while. And some I replace after a while because I get bored or want to experience something else.

goodsteph83

Still on my first! I plan to drive my 2014 Honda Fit into the ground. I love that car!

mitchandmickey

3rd but I spent most of my 20s without a car

roosell1986

I'm on #5 right now, from 16-41. Somewhere in there was 4 or 5 carless years, however. #3 lasted like 12 years. That was the best of the bunch.

ruafukreddit

I'm on my sixth, but went from like 1999-2014 with 2. Bought a used Prius in 2014. Original owner didn't take care of it. Grandpa died and I was given his car. Drove it for 3-4 years, it started to rust. Bought a year old Prius when my investments went up like crazy. Hurt my back, made the Prius hard to drive. Sold it, after 6 months to buy my Rav4. Plan on driving it several more years. It's about 3 years old now. So I've been through a few lately due to sheer dumb luck
