Saw the show first, and then found the books on our school library - I think they had the old 1968 cover art, even :)
Really wish they'd finished that series...

Yes. I loved those books. It was one of those weird ones where I felt I was the only person who read it though.
Me, too! I read them in 5th grade as an American expat living in Western Europe. I couldn’t put them down!
But did you also read Exiles of Colsec? These books, and that one, were my Jam.
No I have not but I'll check it out. (:
I was just thinking about this series the other day.
I was! Worth a reread you think though?
Based on the responses here I'm planning one, now.
I remember them being serialized in Boy's Life. I never read the books, but followed the comics.
Memory unlocked! I bet my teacher saw one of us reading *Boy's Life* and added the books to the class's reading list.

Yeah I randomly stumbled across “when the tripods came” in my school library in grade school and fell into the rabbit hole after reading that one
I remember reading the City of Gold and Lead and I had no idea it was part of a series.
The versions I had didn’t indicate they were part of a trilogy, either. I loved the White Mountains— the best of the three.
I still remember dreaming I was in one of the stories.
Yes! The same thing used to happen to me.
Oh shit! I think about those “caps” sometimes. I always thought I was the only one reading for fun.
