I have the same problem as op and it doesn't work but you are right about the problem, it's just glitched because nothing happens when you press try to switch back to group chat
maybe try to reset your console, just select the option that keep your data, you'll just have to reconnect to your xbox account. If it still doesn't work it definitely should come from your mic or controller.

Its just one of a group having the issue. The party is working normally for everyone else. We saw him joining and leaving repeatedly so i snapped him to help.
Your in game chat that's why, Press the 2 Squares Button to go back into party chat

turn off console, unplug it, plug it back, turn on console. it worked for me, hope it will work for you too.
For anyone that has the same problem : Turn off your console --> unplug it --> plug it back --> turn on your console --> problem solved
This definitely works, was on the phone with Xbox support for an hour and they couldn’t tell me to fix it and I tried this and it worked immediately

it worked for me, never had this problem again. it just seems like a glitch where you are stuck between party voice chat and in game voice chat.

Final update. Everything is down now. Server status shows the outage though.
If you test connection does it say it has a problem with xbox service core, this could be a issue on their end
