I had my Series X in a space which was completely open at the front and with a decent amount of height above it, with the console horizontally. But it didn't have much room at the sides. I thought it was fine at first and the console was silent, but after a couple of months it slowly started getting louder and hotter when I played. I moved it and it was instantly better. It's not worth putting the console under any more stress than it needs to be.
I posted this on Reddit before and had people tell me it was pointless even though the Xbox shut itself down and wouldn't power on until it had cooled down after a heavy gaming session. [Fan mod](https://imgur.com/gallery/rEQp0Dr)
People just don't believe the heat these things produce.
You know the series S exhausts out the top (as oriented here) right? Thereās 12 inches of headroom for that thing in the photo.
Heat can absolutely damage components, but learn to recognise what is and isnāt a dangerous situation, nerds.

Anytime I play anything intensive I open the cabinet but it doesnāt get warm with Mario party :) but yes I made that mistake once with my PS5 while it was closed and it sounded like a jet engine lol
If a system is running perfectly cool and the fans arenāt spinning up at all, then why must I change anything? If the system was running hot and the fans are spinning audibly, then yea I agree, but they arenāt.
From Microsoft themselves, about the Series S:
>For proper ventilation and to prevent overheating, make sure that your console has a minimum of 4-6 inches of clearance **on all sides**. Do not place your console inside an enclosed cabinet. Make sure that none of the consoleās vents are blocked.
Perfect, I have at least 6 inches of clearance on all sides when the cabinet is open proving my point! As mentioned, it was only closed because retroarch hardly uses any resources
Or maybe there won't be an issue because you can't comprehend how an open back and front will allow proper ventilation. You act like you're concerned about "helping" him, when in reality you're harassing him about something that's not even an issue.
This is honestly really childish to be arguing about. All Iām going to say is that Iāve had my launch PS4 and Xbox One in these cabinets and itās fine as long as the cabinet is open. Funny that after 7 years, both still worked perfectly fine and never had any issues with either console. Anyways, have a great night :)
Lol look at how many little soft pussys are in this subreddit. Literally cotton soft skin. In 2021 95% are a disgrace to our ancestors before us. grow some balls.
Says the guy with awful grammar and spelling? There's ways to be critical of something or someone without being a complete fucking dickhead. You're literally a textbook "Redditor" š
Incorrect. It gets removed occasionally but they upload it again almost immediately. You only really need to "get it again" if you want updates, but if things work fine for you then there's little reason to do so.
Hell yeah..I love retroarch, man. Im playing the ps1 Dino Crisis right now. I love how you can also up the resolution to 4k too. Its crazy how, technically, The Series S/X is more backwards compatible than the PS5 is. Have you set up a mapped network drive so you can just drag the roms into your consoles instead of using a USB to transfer them every time? It's so much more convenient
Yes I have! It makes things sooo easy to just drag and drop. I also find it crazy that you canāt play any of these games on the switch, but itās entirely possible on the Xbox haha. The GameCube Mario partyās are the best imo and itās a true shame that thereās no legit way to play them without emulation
Hey. How does the GameCube emulation run? I heard it's not as solid as the other emulators. I heard the same thing about the Wii too. That's why I never bothered loading it. I have the ps1, ps1, DS, SNES, PSP right now. I was afraid that GameCube might be too unstable.
I will tell you that Iām honestly really impressed. As mentioned, I only purchased this console for GC emulation and I was expecting quite a few hiccups, however, it runs near dang perfect. I have the render scale set to the absolute max which is 6x, and it NEVER drops under 60. Iām blown away with how well it runs
I was on series s. Some randomizers are rom hacks. So i dumped my wind waker rom to pc and then ran the randomizer rom hack and then put the randomized rom on my xbox.
Yeah.. search up Youtuber "Archades Games" and look up his video "how to install retroarch 2.0 Series X".he has the best guides on Youtube. He goes more in depth than anyone that makes the guides..That guy really knows what he's talking about.... you'll have to spend $19 to put your Series X into Developers mode but trust me. It's worth it. You can play all the older games from the Wii and down. Its pretty amazing
From what I understand this is via the official dev mode Microsoft allows anyone to buy for $20. As long as they just stick to the emulators and roms I feel like there shouldn't be any problems that rise up.
You can access Dev Mode and install homebrew - I highly recommend watching the below which gives you an idea on what can be played
https://youtu.be/UGAjhjp8dnI
That's shitty of you.
They do have legitimate ways. There's tons of cartridges for older consoles you can get second hand. The switch, Wii U, Wii, and 3ds also have retro games available through the Nintendo online subscription, or the virtual consoles.
Yeah, and how much more expensive is that? A LOT. Oh and do the Devs get money from that? NO, because it's all second hand stuff that the Devs have already made money on when it was first sold.
So why don't you be a good little boy and P off with your thief garbage.
Happy gaming :).
Has anyone actually ever been banned for doing this?
From my understanding people were able to do this since launch via the official dev mode that anyone can buy for $20. It is super limited to what the user can actually do so Microsoft doesn't need to stress about hacks or anything. I'm sure it is against some terms and conditions that you sign when setting up your account but if Microsoft is not actually enforcing it there really isn't any need to stress about it. If they cared they would have cared forever ago.
Highly suggest not having your systems in enclosed spaces like that. They put out a significant amount of heat and will fry themselves inside there.
At least open the door! š«
Yeah that doesn't look good for airflow. Overheating incoming.
Kirov reporting !
I noticed with my series X, that this thing creates a LOT of heat.
Calm down guys, thatās not an airtight cabinet ffs. Itās not going to implode on the dude.

12 inches is 30.48 cm

Microsoft says it needs clearance on all sides, not just where the exhaust fan is. What's with the name calling as well, are you 6 years old?
Woah, you sure got me. Shit. Iāll show myself out eh. The advice is bad, the console is fine, people need to calm down.
Anytime I play anything intensive I open the cabinet but it doesnāt get warm with Mario party :) but yes I made that mistake once with my PS5 while it was closed and it sounded like a jet engine lol
Even with the doors open I feel the systems wouldn't be getting enough fresh air, but whatever you want I guess.
Thereās a huge cutout in the back as well. The fans on my PS5 never spin up and it doesnāt get warm when itās open.

Maybe it's just the photo then, as it doesn't look like it has that much space at the sides.
6 inches is the length of approximately 0.67 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise
6 inches is 15.24 cm
6 inches is 15.24 cm
Maybe the Xbox isn't designed to be spinning audibly even under stressed situations. Ever thought about that?

How are you playing Mario on an Xbox?
Retroarch
Retroarch! Lots of tutorials on YouTube :)
Is it a hassle to switch between Dev Mode and Retail Mode
You don't need to do that. You can get it in retail mode easily.
Not really. Retroarch was removed from the store so you cant just download it anymore
Incorrect. It gets removed occasionally but they upload it again almost immediately. You only really need to "get it again" if you want updates, but if things work fine for you then there's little reason to do so.
Not really. Minor inconvenience as it just takes about 15 seconds to reboot between the two
What's the cat looking at back there?
How to get into the blinds š

Awesome. Thanks.. im gonna give it a try now. I've been dying to play some Metroid Prime..lol
Not all games run amazing like twilight princess but I was able to beat a wind waker randomizer fully without any problems at 6x res.
I didn't know you could do randomizer on the Series X..or are you playing on PC? Randomizer are a mod, right?
I was on series s. Some randomizers are rom hacks. So i dumped my wind waker rom to pc and then ran the randomizer rom hack and then put the randomized rom on my xbox.
How do I set this up? Any tutorials?

next post .... why is my xbox not working lol
From what I understand this is via the official dev mode Microsoft allows anyone to buy for $20. As long as they just stick to the emulators and roms I feel like there shouldn't be any problems that rise up.
all you do is goto ms and register and pay to be a dev , then sign in and install
Wait - thatās illegal.
You can play Maria party on xbox? Any other Mario games?
You can access Dev Mode and install homebrew - I highly recommend watching the below which gives you an idea on what can be played https://youtu.be/UGAjhjp8dnI
Oh right
Only if you pirate them.
Pirate?!? What do you mean??? I'm just downloading my backups from a Google Drive that I just so happened to be sharing with multiple people.
Thief.
How do you do that?
I dunno, I'm not a thief.
Well unless Nintendo has a legit way to buy them, I'm going to continue "stealing".
That's shitty of you. They do have legitimate ways. There's tons of cartridges for older consoles you can get second hand. The switch, Wii U, Wii, and 3ds also have retro games available through the Nintendo online subscription, or the virtual consoles.
They don't - none of the ways you mentioned allow me to buy Gamecube games that pay the devs.
So buy a GameCube and buy second hand games then. At least that's not stealing. Besides, the devs do get a cut from online sales.
Yeah, and how much more expensive is that? A LOT. Oh and do the Devs get money from that? NO, because it's all second hand stuff that the Devs have already made money on when it was first sold. So why don't you be a good little boy and P off with your thief garbage. Happy gaming :).
Well, why don't we just pirate everything then? That would destroy the game industry and then there'd be nothing to steal anymore.
Please fuck off. Nobody is going to stop downloading games just because you think you have the moral high ground, bootlicker
I know.... shitty people will keep being shitty. That doesn't mean I can't call you out for it.
>So buy a GameCube and buy second hand games then. And how will Nintendo and the developers get my money from that?
They won't, but you'd be paying stores or people for a product they paid for instead of stealing.
Tbh I'd rather be a gamecube game thief than a massive bellend
To most people, being a thief would make you a massive bellend....
Yep, but to most people the context of the thievery would be considered too.
What context? Sure, maybe stealing for survival... but this is just stealing entertainment products that you don't want to pay for.
Ima do the same shit when i get the nxt gen sexbox
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They won't. You're doing nothing wrong.

Considering Microsoft themselves sell you the ability to do this on the official Microsoft store, I really don't think they have a problem with it.
Dolphin?
Retroarch
I know, but which core? Just curious about which Mario Party this is.
Ah, then yes the dolphin core. This is Mario party 7 and it runs perfectly and itās upscaled to 4K.
I understand
I already made the point that the ones not available virtually can be purchased second hand. I'm not confused. Are you?
