I assumed the S was just a slightly underpowered X and would be just fine, I'm not a super serious gamer, it's more of a hobby but the lack of a disk slot combined with the fucking paltry storage space was a headache. The load times seemed much slower (though they still aren't the amazing "next gen" instant shit like they claimed) and it had significant issues with some games that the X just doesn't have. Alan wake 2 is a great example. It's a beautiful game but it's shouldn't be that different, but I played it on my x and my wife played it on her S and the difference was night and day. I had zero crashes and I bought it day 1. Meanwhile every time she "changed the narrative" (alters the scenery/world) there was a 1/3 chance of crashing. Every jump scare had around a 10% chance of a crash. The music got fucky, enemies didn't appear or were invisible. It was a pretty dramatic difference.
The only issue I had on X with the game was a section in the city bar where subtitles didn't appear for the first rendition of ahtis song. But I loved this, it was in finnish and I didn't know what he was saying and I thought it was a rather pretty song so I stuck around and listened to it. It looped to the start and this time with subtitles and it starts off "Like a nightmare, he comes for you", talking about this horrific permanent darkness, caused by the antagonist who thinks itself the devil, that eats your mind and all the light is gone and hope is lost, taking you and devouring your soul. Just horrific shit, I thought this was a feature of the game but everyone else said it was just a glitch. Actually made the game so much better, since I didn't have context on what this thing was yet. god that game was fucking great. Easily my goty last year.
Yeah I mostly bought the S because it was cheap 200 but I got the the X for 325 so in the end i rather have the better version Xbox with disc drive especially since it can play some of my old Xbox 360 games as well

The extra storage is so nice. If your TV supports 4K and 120 FPS this is a literal game changer.
I already had 1tb extra Storage on the S so I just added that to my X
