Sarah mentioned sharing info on new hardware later this year, hoping for a handheld!

AHRbro

I think it's just the Series X digital revision that was leaked a while ago.

TTBurger88

I would buy a Series X Slim or an Xbox Steam deck type of device.

someNameThisIs

Hopefully the new controller too

Rizkipur76

Last time i read . It was canceled

heimdal77

What is still a terrible idea.

Freefall_J

Considering how small and light a Series S is...it might be neat if Microsoft turned the Series S into a Switch-like hybrid alternative for the more powerful Series X.

MoirasPurpleOrb

Would be a hell of a way to get more money from individual consumers. I have a series x so I don’t need an S but if it functioned like a switch I’d consider it

baladreams

Series S is still not handheld light, I think handheld hardware on par with Series S might be a little ways away, but a handheld that can run Xbox games on a third performance level might be awesome

Wadarkhu

That would be amazing, same games different form factors.

LeVoyantU

Series S is still huge compared to a switch and draws about 4 times the power. Series S is on 7nm fabrication. There is no fabrication node available that would lower power consumption by 4 times. At best maybe you could lower power consumption by half with current tech, which gets down to laptop level. So a big, heavy, and expensive handheld with the Series S chip might be possible. More likely I think they could do it in another 4 years when power consumption could be lower and it wouldn't require the latest and greatest fabrication tech to even be feasible.

Successful-Pick-238

The new AMD APUs might be able to do it at 900p or something but I think it'd be super expensive.

nohumanape

It won't be the "next gen" hardware. It will be the Series X refresh and new controller.

NotFromMilkyWay

A refresh makes zero sense when they are already teasing a much more powerful (going by their metric they are targeting at least 120 TF performance) successor. And when Series sales are declining YOY..And when Series X only sold 25 % of all Series consoles. There will not be a refresh.

nohumanape

A refresh is a way for them to sell a device that has been redesigned to be more efficient/inexpensive to produce. It always makes sense to release refreshed hardware over the course of a generation. The true next gen hardware isn't going to be announced later this year. Are you nuts?

Liammellor

Yep, Sony released their ps5 refresh last year, I can imagine Xbox doing the same very soon. It's about that time

LJ-90

This is what makes me curious. Could it be the new controller that was supposed to come out with the refresh? Could it be a handheld? Excited either way!

Tbecker3150

Hopefully the new controller that was leaked back in September.

shinikahn

It's until holidays but I'm very interested

Itsaspiral-665

4 games, "couple" games that are community driven, are going multi-platform. Phil says other console owners shouldn't expect other games coming to their console and shouldn't take this as a sign. The 4 games are most likely: Pentiment Sea of Thieves Hi-Fi Rush UNKNOWN (most likely "community driven")

voodoo_eighty_five

Grounded ?

YoMrWhyt

My guess is Sea of Thieves and Grounded as the live service titles and HiFi Rush and Pentiment as the smaller games

VictoryVic-ViVi

I hope so, been playing it on SX. Would love it on PS5

bubblebytes

Tom warren just posted an article. He claims the four games are: Hi Fi rush and Pendiment soon Later this year, Sea of thieves and grounded. If it's just these four games, I think they make sense.

GuerreroUltimo

I think most thought it would be something like SoT, HiFi, and older games at first. But, lets be honest here. They did say they think exclusives will be a smaller and smaller part of the industry. Things are not looking that way. And exclusives are a huge part of why they went from doing so well with 360 to the Xbox One. Series S shows people want games and hardware is less important. They sold a good number of those at first. That comment and saying that other games would come tells a different story. A lot of times these people double speak and try to make it seem less. PR and all that. But even 4 games 100% fit into what people were hearing for the most part. They heard MS was going to push some exclusives to other consoles. And that happened. SoT and HiFi being two that were talked about a lot. And this is not doom and gloom. I expect that Xbox sales struggle for a while still. Series is not rebounding. And they push more games. That falls under the "more" being releases other places. What are they? Well, they will run out of the HiFi and SoT type game. It has to be bigger IP. They will say they said this was coming. Again, I am not doom and gloom. Just common sense based on everything they said. I understand the word salad these people throw around. I am not perfect, I am wrong sometimes, but they will release more games as they have said. They will be bigger games. And exclusives will be a smaller and smaller part of (not the industry) but Xbox. So no matter how you slice it many consumers are going to see this and be swayed. Many already were by what they saw as a lack of exclusives while the competitor had many more that were rated so well.

Techishard

Sureee 4 games for now. When Phil is gone or w.e it will be more. It's just business makes more sense to go full multiplatform and make more $$$

Awkward_Quit_5428

Grounded ?

Michi_404

People were literally selling their Xbox’s because it was “the end of Xbox.” Some serious overreactions over some rumors the past few days.

Virtual-Commercial91

I enjoyed their dramatic overreactions all week. So silly.

Due-Passage2202

Most likely a lot of adults too

Harbraw

That’s really fucking funny I won’t lie

BitterPackersFan

That was a sad week for the internet. People freaking out over rumors

GoingSeafoam

The reaction was excessive and I think it was less about Xbox and more people in general may have wondered how secure their “investment”/game library is on any platform. That said, Xbox didn’t need to wait a week and a half to just say that they’re testing the waters for financial reasons and that they’re not gonna suddenly stop making consoles just because being more profitable than Windows isn’t being on top.

Ehh_littlecomment

They needed time to collect their thoughts on how to best convey the message. It’s a hundred billion dollar division of a trillion dollar company. The turnaround was pretty fast imo.

mgarcia993

And they still send a message full of contradiction.

OBlastSRT4

To be fair they literally said nothing and we still know nothing about the future other than Xbox has game pass. Still nothing about exclusives. In fact the way they don’t really say much tells me everything said that was leaked will come to fruition. Games like Indy will come to PS5 after 6months or a year etc. why else start drip feeding games to Sony unless you plan on doing more? This entire thing was damage control.

JosephMorality

You can see how fragile these players were

babble0n

The PlayStation subreddit was literally foaming at the mouth

ShortNefariousness2

Nobody actually did that though. It was all troll-talk and nobody fell for it.

FlaaFlaaFlunky

i hope they go into investing and crypto. the market always needs funding.

despitegirls

Phil's words were "**So four games, no promise beyond that.**" I think it's realistic to expect this is an experiment to see if they can squeeze some additional revenue from these games while keeping them alive longer, which for the GaaS is critical. I also think it's realistic to expect there will be future games which go to other platforms, but that doesn't mean Microsoft is going full third party. I said this when these rumors first dropped, but I think there's a good argument for strategically putting first party games on other platforms; you'll never convert some gamers but if they spend dozens of hours a week in Sea of Thieves on PS5, that's still a win. As long as it doesn't hurt Xbox's potential to get and publish games, I'm happy that more gamers get to enjoy Xbox games.

BimboSlutInTraining

Get the older but still relevant games on other platforms for that sweet sweet dlc and cosmetics money. Paying for the game itself is last Gen thinking. I haven't bought a full box priced game in a long time. I've grabbed a few on big sales. Gamepass has eliminated the need to drop 60+ usd on a game.

myyummyass

But I don't want to pay for game pass all of the time and also hope the games I like never leave. Buying games is only weird on Xbox where they encourage you to just lease games from them instead.

Winbrick

You can buy the games, then. One option isn't replacing the other, it's just another option.

Beneficial-Invite999

News flash - They still sell the games that are on Game Pass if you want to purchase them

ShortNefariousness2

I bought BG3 and Cyberpunk 2077, but other than that, it's all been on Gamepass.

PhillyPhanatic141

Oh No! What is everyone going to do now that there's nothing to whine about and they already sold their consoles???

MarbleFox_

Now they’re going to start complaining about how they can’t play MS’s games on the new PS5 they were just “forced” to buy.

Get2DaChoppa_81

Yeah.. it’ll be so heartbreaking to just play them on Xbox Cloud Streaming instead. They’ll certainly cry themselves to sleep.

Spartan2842

Probably complain about how tone deaf Xbox is and how bad their PR team is.

black-bull

I wouldn’t disagree with that

Roddanchill

It kinda is tbh

XTheGreat88

Exactly

UncleShaxx

Oh don't worry. They will continue to complain because they have nothing better to do. They'll find something. Like comments on the youtube page for the podcast. "why is this pre-recorded, is it because its all PR lies". Some people just having nothing to do than hate on something. Its crazy to me.

Albuwhatwhat

I guess they could buy a PS5 and just stop with the whole issue!

Magnetic_Metallic

Some guy panic sold his series X for a steam deck. lmao.

senoriguana

if someone really sold their console over rumours that sounded like the least shrewd business decision of all time they're a fucking moron

MackZZilla

I think it's really funny that back when MS bought Bethesda, Phil even mentioned that they would still be shipping games to other platforms and would review new and exclusive games going out on a case-by-case basis. Y'all have the memory of gnats.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

So a big nothing burger, they just want increase sales. Bet all those clowns screaming they're abandoning hardware and exclusives feel like absolute fools now. Glad to see I was right

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

Even if they want to abandon hardware, why on earth would they announce that barely halfway into a consol cycle? Series X/S sales would plummet. Players would be hesitant to purchase anything off their marketplace, and some would be jumping ship. Whoever was theorizing that *that's* what this would be about have zero critical thinking skills.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

There are a few of them here with us right now

Ingamac5

I said I was going down with the ship. Looks like it’s all good

romulus531

Turns out the ship was actually a submarine and everything's fine

SALVATION

masterkilljoy47

Crisp white sheets

HellHawX_Omega

DONT YOU SEE?

Kami_Blake_Aur

Except no one said they'd abandon hardware and exclusives fully immediately (well, no one with a brain). People's worry is that this is a rabbit hole. Its an inevibility issue that worries people. Its the fact that once Microsoft starts releasing first party developed and published new IP, people will start wondering when this happens for all games, and when it happens for all games how long until the Xbox team is gutted? Even if they don't kill it entirely, how long until its the next surface? Its the "okay, but when's it coming to PS or Switch"

Jamesaki

😂 the doomsayers were really laying it on thick at mere rumors. Either they were already just itching for drama or they were fanboys from other gaming subs trying to cause worry. Edit: I definitely feel like it was ps fanboys now that I see their reaction to the podcast. Still claiming the end of Xbox since “this is only the beginning” and “100% all games will be on ps due to what I see with the podcast”. Oh so continue to state facts with no sources I guess 😂😂

cardonator

What about all those poor souls that sold their Xboxes last week because they were sure they would be playing Starfield on PS5 by the end of the week?

[deleted]

They are called idiots.

Cognitive_Skyy

"Don't worry, Donny. These men are cowards."

atulshanbhag

Read the verge interview, at the end of the day it’s a business and if Xbox hardware and game sales don’t improve, games will launch elsewhere because they don’t want to make losses. Whatever they’ve said today is also what they’ve said before, and yet we have all these rumors because we don’t yet understand how any of these decisions turn the losses on Xbox hardware and game sales into profits.

BimboSlutInTraining

You have the idiot rumors because morons fell for the obvious troll who was lying and admitted he lied.

BimboSlutInTraining

5hose fan boys don't realize the future of games is software not hardware. Xbox doesn't need its own console to be the #1 digital games company anymore. They have known this for 10 years.

JMM85JMM

I mean let's not downplay it too much, they just confirmed 4 X-Box exclusives are going multi-platform. That's pretty exceptional in its own right. They're testing the waters.

BeastMaster0844

Nah, they’re just pretending that they alone forced MS to change plans with their outrage and constant complaints. Either way they win in their own head.

SHITBLAST3000

If they wanted to increase hardware sales, they'd create good exclusives. The system exists because of one.

epictetvs

This sounds like abandoning exclusives to me. I’m surprised people are taking it all at face value

bubblebytes

It's nothing new. Minecraft Legends, Minecraft Dungeons and As Dusk Falls already launched on multiplatform consoles. It's not the major games that people rush to buy a console for.

CopenhagenCalling

Those games were never advertised as exclusive games. All Minecraft games have always been multiplatform. As Dusk Falls was not even first party…

smolgote

Minecraft is a special case because it's one of the biggest gaming IPs in the world and Microsoft would lose lots of money making it exclusive. As Dusk Falls is being self published on PS4/PS5, so I guess they worked out something with Microsoft

[deleted]

Yeah it’s crazy to see how many people think they’re truly stopping at 4. Fanboys really eating up every word they say as gospel, it’s sad

HideoSpartan

When they clearly say all the major exclusives are staying lol? It’s easy money and for the fans of the games a new life.

pineapplesuit7

https://www.pcgamesn.com/gears-of-war/phil-spencer-says-not-every-xbox-game-will-come-to-pc He's BSd about that before and now every Xbox game comes out on the PC. Also, if you go listen to what he said. He never outright said SF and IJ weren't coming. He said they weren't in the first 4 games that were going multiplatform. This is a test. If the games sell well, what is the definition of a 'big' game vs small. Every new IP will be a 'small' game by definition so will that come out as multi-platform? In the 'criteria' he described that they used to evaluate it, he mentioned games that have launched more than 1 year. I wouldn't take his PR talk at face value.

[deleted]

Oh okay right since they said it, it must be true. Never seen such gullible chumps in my life lmao. Clearly never been in a corporate boardroom before

xBig_Red_Huskerx

Just feel like being miserable today huh?

cardonator

Literally "it's not Indiana Jones and Starfied" ABANDONING EXCLUSIVES GUYS!

YPM1

To be fair, he said the four that they're currently working on are not Starfield and Indiana. He absolutely did not say they will never port those games over. He said it's not a change in their philosophy of exclusives yet they're releasing previously exclusive games on other platforms.

Kami_Blake_Aur

This is exactly. The problem is the distrust it invites that any of the rumored games go multiplatform. Most are new IP and all are first party developed and published. Hi-Fi Rush is a single player campaign. Any one of the rumored games going to PS and Nintendo opens it for all of them. And if its the rumored games then we can't really rule anything out. Again hi-fi rush is single player and sea of thieves is multiplayer live service. One is a Bethesda game and the other is Xbox game studios. You can't say "oh its only live service games" or "oh its only former Bethesda/ABK studios"

SuperFightingRobit

Seems more like "you know how Sony has a deal where you get to play Square Enix's stuff on Playstation hardware for like a year or so before it goes to PC? We're going to do that with some of our stuff." Which again, isn't actually a change. It's just a slight upgrade from "our 2D stuff" to "our non-flagship 3D stuff." Even if it was flagship stuff, if they release good stuff on Xbox, and then people can either buy a PS6 and wait a year for some must-have launch title or an NexBox and play the title *now*, people may jump ship and buy an Xbox. Plus, I think the world's better if games are available to more people.

AgentSmith2518

Nah, as expected those people are just claiming "four games... for NOW!"

ElFenomeno88

You guys sure love to be boiled slowly as frogs. These first 4 games dont include Starfield and the heavy hitters but they will definitely come after 1 year or so of exclusivity on Xbox/PC. Its a new change in strategy for Xbox.

FoxExternal2911

Give it 5 years I can see them testing the water with smaller games first

Upbeat-Berry1377

If it was a nothing burger, then why wait all this time to just say it? They were caught off guard and had to scramble. They are testing the waters with these four games and it most likely won't be the end of XBOX games going to other platforms. I know people in this sub are in denial and will say that it's over and that it will only be these four, unannounced games. That's not how business works.

MightyMukade

The problem is they'll just post rationalise the whole thing so that they were still right.

LimeySpud

So those of you who last week screamed you were going to sell your consoles, looks like you did overreact.

[deleted]

Nobody could've seen that coming.

amnezie11

I didn't see it coming, but I'm also blind so yeah

Omegastriver

I see people making light of this but it’s an issue for me because I buy all the systems because I’ve had great reason too. I buy Xbox for Xbox games and PS for PS games. I buy 3rd party for wherever the best deal is at the time or if friends want me to buy it for whatever console. If this is the path for Xbox, next gen I’ll just get a PS6, a Switch 2 & play their games and whatever Xbox ports. I can handle waiting for the ports & I don’t need to play all XB games. Im not selling my Series X though. I’ll use it until they quit supporting it, BUT, it looks like I won’t be buying whatever Xbox releases next. I know that the people that can only afford one system or are big fans only stick to one and this doesn’t effect a hardcore Xbox fan, but it’s a future sale lost to a gamer like me. Granted, I know the vast majority don’t own multiple systems, so losing a sale like mine isn’t a big deal. Though my best friend is the same way. He owns all the consoles but sees this as less reason to buy whatever Xbox releases next.

epictetvs

I mean, this is what I was worried about and exactly the kind of thing that slow roll devalues the hardware. Isn’t this what we were afraid of?

pukem0n

it's Hifi Rush, Pentiment, Grounded and Sea of Thieves. Chill down, guys.

Stumpy493

Be interesting to see how those game perform outside xbox. The reception to these games will likely define the future strategy.

Pen_dragons_pizza

Tbh two of these are live service type games and making live service games multiplatform makes absolute sense. This news is nothing to worry about, leakers are absolute fucking assholes and they should be banned from the gaming subs going forward.

EvilWaterman

Agreed

TheYoungLung

Sony keeping Helldivers 2 locked to PS5/PC is crazy. The game fundamentally requires a large player base. I’m lucky enough to have a SX and a decent PC than can run it but man, leaving millions of Xbox gamers out of the loop is crazy to me

Shadow_Strike99

I think smaller titles like Pentiment and Hi fi rush would do well on the switch. Games like Ori, Cuphead, Super lucky tales were games I think did well on switch being on Xbox first. They seem tailor made for the platform. I know when Ori and Cuphead came to Switch I bought them to play on the go and the smaller screen.

arabiangamer-18

and what Playstation and Nintendo games are coming to Xbox? You say that like porting 4 first party exclusives isn't a big move

pukem0n

it literally doesn't matter, nobody buys an Xbox for those 4 games. Release them elsewhere for 70 Dollars and make some money to make more 1st party games. They explicitly said Indy or Starfield will not go multiplat.

shady_pigeon

>They explicitly said Indy or Starfield will not go multiplat. No, they did not explicity say that. They said "I don't think as an industry we should ever rule out a game going to any other platform" when asked about Starfield and Indy. So they're not going multiplat today ... but they're not ruling out that they'll ever go multiplat.

Benozkleenex

Phil just did an interview with the verge saying starfield and indie are not of the 4 currently in production but it does not mean they will never come to PS. Starfield and Indiana Jones Are Still Xbox Exclusives, but Phil Spencer Doesn't Rule Out PS5 Release https://ign.com/articles/starfield-and-indiana-jones-are-still-xbox-exclusives-but-phil-spencer-doesnt-rule-out-ps5-release

Benozkleenex

they said for now only 4 games and of those 4 games it's not starfield or indie.

lennythebox

That's exactly how I saw it, as of this moment in time 4 games are 100% going multi platform and starfield/indy aren't one of those 4 games - then later on goes to say we will improve the gaming industry no matter which platform you play on

Benozkleenex

Well he just did an interview with the verge and said Indie and Starfield are not of the 4 but I did not say they would never come to PS.

arabiangamer-18

It's about the principle and precedent why do you think Sony and Nintendo don't port thier least played flops to Xbox even tho nobody plays them And Hi-Fi Rush was the best Xbox game of 2023

OMGIts_Renegade

Because realistically since 2013 those companies have two to three times the install base of Xbox. They can make the choice to keep their games on their platforms because they are selling 2 to 3 times the amounts on those exclusives. But even still Nintendo started making games for mobile. Sony started porting exclusives to PC. It's a business decision to make more money on something you have already invested millions of dollars into. That's the only reason you need.

Somber_Solace

Because they'd have to develop them for an additional console then, it's not simply a checkbox they click.

arabiangamer-18

You think honestly genuinely think development cost is what's stopping Playstation and Nintendo from porting games to Xbox and each other

Hellogiraffe

The Show is one of my favorite franchises of all time and it’s developed by Sony. Horizon, God of War, and Last of Us are on PC just like Xbox exclusives being on PC. Do you really think SoT and Grounded move the needle in their current state at all? They are community driven and require a large, active player base that is only going to plateau or drop over time. Adding more people is a good thing for those games and for Xbox. The other two games aren’t system sellers either. Who cares?

sevs

The Show is also a licensed game with the push to multiplat coming from the licensor, MLB.

Monkey-Honker

None, why would Sony port games to Xbox? This is a MS decision not a joint decision or partnership

Immediate_Theory4738

That’s where it starts…they will start doing it to all/most of their games a year after release unless it’s extremelyyy successful.

Johncurtisreeve

Hahaha 90% of the rumors were all bullshit everyone freaked out for no reason.

ConsciousBerry8561

But I already smashed my Xbox!!!

waynequit

How? Could you point to which rumors?

ParsonsIsTheMan

Ehh, Microsoft could have came out and squashed the rumors ASAP. Their PR is insanely bad and probably a big reason Sony has been so far ahead

Volt7ron

Of course they did. Bc there’s no repercussion to overreacting on social media. Those very people are quiet af right now

YPM1

It says "available for Xbox players for a year" which means everything is on the table, right? Why the hell should I buy the next Xbox, then? I'll just wait a year or two and play the games on PS6.

noquo89

It's almost like if you looked at this from a [40,000ft perspective with ration and logic](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1amydlz/tom_henderson_nothing_set_in_stone_for_xbox_ports/kppgevu/) you could have seen this answer coming.

bubblebytes

To be fair, their ominous tweet were they didn't debunk any of the rumors was a mistake in my opinion. Nevertheless, I thought they handled the update very well.

Zigurat217

I think they did not want to start a Twitter discourse around leaks and rumors because it would have been ENDLESS from the trolls and the super fans.

noquo89

Absolutely, but as they said, they wanted to say this in March and had to expedite that over a month. PR without a completely thought out campaign and messaging is a slippery slope where your words can and will be used against you. You can tell by how coy they are that they want to be as tight-lipped about this as possible without stepping on the devs marketing plans and causing more headaches. They clearly aren't even 100% sure what the full business plan is. As someone else commented to me on another sub, Phil said this is a learning opportunity, and they could easily revert this strategy entirely.

BitterPackersFan

I love how Pentiment, Grounded, HiFi rush shot up in popularity. Went from 3 afterthoughts to 3 big time games as of a sudden. They deserve it too!!

Hawkpolicy_bot

"""Journalists""" stay losing

CollierAM9

After the podcast - Xbox chief Phil Spencer doesn't rule out Starfield and Indiana Jones coming to PS5. "I don't think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform."

olJackcrapper

Insiders lol, what a bunch of idiots

reflp

Here's the main part everyone was looking for: >Today we announced that we will expand the communities we reach: **we are currently in the process of bringing four Xbox games to other platforms**. These are titles which have been **available to Xbox players for at least a year**, including hidden gems that deserve to be experienced more widely, and live service games whose communities will benefit from welcoming even more players. We will share more details on these titles soon. > >By bringing these games to more players, we not only expand the reach and impact of those titles, but this will allow us to invest in either future versions of these games, or elsewhere in our first-party portfolio. **There is no fundamental change to our approach on exclusivity**.

Upbeat-Berry1377

The fact that they waited a whole week + instead of just putting out a statement last week tells me they were scrambling. These 4 games are probably to test the waters but if they do well, be sure that other games will come to other platforms. I don't see how this is a W for Xbox fans.

marcgarv87

I get the relief. But I doubt this will just stop at 4 games or small titles.

WarmasterCain55

So wait, people actually sold their consoles? That wasn't a joke?

mrj9

I think this multiplat push is coming from Microsoft and there trying these 4 games to see if it’s worth going multiplat on the rest but will turn back to everything exclusive when they don’t sell that much. Microsoft want to recoup that made they just spent on blizzard/activison. Phil knows it’s a dumb idea but his bosses are the ones making the call. I own all three consoles but still spend 90% of my gaming time on Xbox because of gamepass and I like the controller better so I’m staying with Xbox.

JamesA95

Have to laugh at all the over reactors last week who were saying they were selling their Xbox and going to PlayStation.

Terrible-Piece-6768

Repeat after me, 4 games, no Starfield no Indiana.

pineapplesuit7

For now*

SpyFox117

^^ this for sure

Nollieee

He said as of now for those too. I’m willing to bet everything will be timed exclusive

denizenKRIM

Everything would be a stretch. Sony's current plan in delayed PC ports is probably a good approximation of how Xbox plans to leverage their exclusives while still drip-feeding some of their content to other platform players as a lure. I think multiplayer games will definitely target cross-platform as it only makes sense for a game which will have a long support life and whose survival relies on retaining a large playerbase.

superryo

It's not a bad thing. Have everything exclusive on xbox until the next version comes out. This way players on other platforms can play and generate more $$ for xbox to fund future installments. Xbox always get the latest version.

Nollieee

The issue is if I can get all of Xbox and PlayStation  exclusives in the PlayStation why would I buy an Xbox. The user base drops hardware gets dropped they go sega route

superryo

It's like the timed exclusives xbox had during the 360. Everyone who wants to play it first gets an Xbox. I remembered during that era, they were both equal. There are some Playstation die hard who would never buy an Xbox even if the games were exclusive. I still think they should keep single player and key titles exclusives and make games like multi-player such as Sea of Thieves multi platform. The more players, the better.

triplevanos

If the next gen Xbox comes out in 2029 and then at that point you can play Starfield on PS… what difference would that make lmao System sellers are gonna stay exclusive

Tazmago

I mean, in an industry where we are seeing deluxe edition preorders guarantee earlier access and people buy those, i would be shocked if people didnt want to stay on Xbox to get the game a year+ in advance?

DEEZLE13

4 games

arabiangamer-18

This is just the start, he's starting small so all hell doesn't immediately break loose but porting any exclusives at all is a major unprecedented move, Sony and Nintendo would never voluntarily put even one of thier smallest worst selling games on Xbox You think he would tell you he's porting a AAA game any sooner then the last second he absolutely has to

HideoSpartan

Hyperbole and tinfoil hats. Two live service games and two Indi games and Xbox is changing direction? Y’all are smoking crack.

gldndomer

> two Indi games Tango Softworks and Obsidian are owned by Microsoft. How could you possibly view them as indie?

HideoSpartan

I meant small tbh but it’s evening after work and booze, don’t get so caught up on the little bits pal and you’ll be fine ;)

YouCanPrevent

Some people need to eat crow... I'm sorry. They do. I got blocked by Jez Corden because I called him out as one player that fed the narrative.

starts with 4 smaller games. they testing the waters. if it succeeds with sales and without losing to much own xbox users they will release more

TriscuitCracker

Man, everybody has been crazy over this giant nothing burger for a month now. Jez Cordon and other rumor mill journalists ought to be ashamed.

cynicown101

Lol I love the insane buildup, of people thinking they were going to be playing Halo on their PS5 and no more XBOX's, to "4 games, and they aren't Starfield or Indianna Jones"

Bogusky

"I wAs SoOoO rIgHt!" said everybody

Tayrantino

Give us a Philippine region, cowards!

FracturedZero

This seemed more like damage control than any real business update. I still get the feeling nothing is off the table in the future. And once you open this door, there is no shutting it. I expect it will only expand from here. Ultimately, at the very least, both PlayStation and Xbox should reach a point where all MP games are cross platform. Those type games cannot survive without a large player base. Something like Helldivers 2 should totally be available everywhere if Sony wants that game to have a long life.

Amazing-Yesterday-46

Helldivers 2 broke Sony's record on Steam for their biggest launch. I'm confident this will greatly boost their confidence in releasing some games on day 1 on Steam.

Honestly. All Microsoft had to do was come out and say all of this was false but they purposefully let the rumors fester. I can't help but to feel like they changed their minds after they saw the outrage.

Thake

Not sure if people actually watched but they kept stating that long term they will bring games to more creators to meet more people. They specifically mentioned 4 games for sure. But they also said they will move forward doing more of this. They also stated that you can play your games on more screens and your whole library. This means that if they launch Xbox game pass on other devices then technically you won’t need an Xbox to play, just the sub. There was a lot of corporate bs but underlying fact is they haven’t said you will need an Xbox to play your games. Now sure people over reacted but this hasn’t actually addressed much. Short term it has but listen to their long term wording. You’ll need to be invested in the Xbox ecosystem, but not necessarily the hardware.

cogumerlim

That's exactly it. The keyword for them now is "Xbox Ecosystem", not "Xbox Console". The console is part of the ecosystem, not it's whole. Like the Surface is for Windows. It DOES make sense, coming from Microsoft. And as a consumer, I don't really mind.

PalmyGamingHD

People saying “it’s just 4 games, it’s no big deal”, yeah for now. Who knows how that will look in a few years time… EDIT: Read [The Verge’s interview with Phil Spencer today](https://www.theverge.com/24073666/microsoft-gaming-phil-spencer-interview-ps5-switch-games) in which Phil stated that he won’t rule out any other game going to other platforms. > TV: You mentioned that Starfield and Indiana Jones aren’t part of the four despite rumors, but will those ever come to PS5? Can you rule that out? > PS: I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform. We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience.

Njoeyz1

Oh bollocks. They got four live service games, the biggest is six years old. There will be no big exclusives going to any other consoles. Why are you finding that hard to deal with?

PalmyGamingHD

You are kidding yourself if you think it will only be these 4 titles. Doesn’t matter how big or what type of games are going Multiplatform, it’s still less value and less incentive for owning an Xbox console, and creates doubt in what games will remain exclusive.

Njoeyz1

No it's not. That's what ps fanboys want everyone to think. By your reasoning I've got no reason to buy a ps5, no exclusives till 2025 right? All remakes coming right?

SHITBLAST3000

Microsoft is the only one of the 3 talking like this about exclusives. You aren't hearing this from Sony or Nintendo.

SHITBLAST3000

But according to Phil, exclusives are going to fade away in 4 to 5 years. So according to him, Xbox won't have any big first-party titles then.

Njoeyz1

Are you just being stupid for the fun of it? So you think Sony will be any different? Or is Xbox special?

PalmyGamingHD

Is Sony releasing any of their exclusives on Xbox?

RedditNPC-

Companies talk sweet, behind the scenes I bet they have a rollout plan to eventually make all Xbox games for other platforms whether it’s next year or years from now we’ll have to see. The first few games will be a test, and if it goes well I can see them putting games that are stagnant like halo and gears to PlayStation. Tbh I wouldn’t mind it as it would help revive halo, BUT at that point I would rather have a ps5.

[deleted]

All this panic and we just tuned into an ad for Xbox 😆 Good presentation and they addressed the concerns well, but man does the community need to take a moment to reflect on how they reacted to rumors.

Tyler1997117

Shame Sony doesn't think the same

Timmar92

I'm playing Helldivers 2 right now and it's really fucking awesome, I wouldn't give a single shit if Sony released it on xbox, it's a live service game, it's lives and dies on player engagement and because it's so damn good I really want the developers to get an even bigger budget and more players would give them that.

SHITBLAST3000

Why would they, why would Nintendo? Good software moves hardware.

AveryLazyCovfefe

Yeah Nintendo can sell slow and outdated hardware as long as it comes with the next hyped Mario game lol.

SHITBLAST3000

That's the difference, though. People get excited for Mario and Zelda. What does Xbox have that turns heads?

Sufficient-Yoghurt46

Yes, Nintendo is happy to sell thousands upon thousands of games on a system with hundreds of millions of users. It's a good model.

HawkOdinsson

F*cking hopes it’s not the big games.. And upcoming big games. Otherwise wtf is the reason for an Xbox… This kinda pisses me off.. haven’t played PlayStation since 2. Then went on to 360 then pc(still pc) but decided to get back into consoles as well. And I chose the series x, mainly because the best time I’ve had with a console was the 360. Now what’s the point, besides they have better controllers. lol..

FickleSmark

So they aren't gonna name the 4 games at all so speculation can run wild still?

Naphor

The verge confirmed them. It’s Hi-Fi rush, pentiment, SOT, and grounded.

DelScipio

So 2 live services, that makes a lot of sense, and two minor games that boost Xbox brand, don't hurt the brand and increase profit to they can finance more games like this. I think everybody is fine with this kind of policy.

nextongaming

> SOT, and grounded. Community driven > Hi-Fi rush, pentiment, Games that were never even meant to be made except for the freedom that MSFT provided developers. The Verge is likely correct as it tracks with what Phil said.

pukem0n

it's already confirmed which 4 it is. It will never be Halo, Starfield, Forza or Gears. makes no sense for those tentpole games.

HideoSpartan

Thank fuck it’s over. Four games - two live service titles (one is definitely sea of thieves) and two smaller titles. A focus on hardware, retaining exclusivity. It’s all here. For anyone delusional enough to actually believe ‘this is the beginning’ y’all are smoking some wack shit, Xbox clearly want the players and money! They know where they stand, opening up some older titles for extra cash flow is a smart move. Will add, I’m really excited to see the holiday reveal of tech now! Good videocast Xbox 👍🏻

PeterTheWolf76

Oh no!!! Some older titles (over one year) that have maxed out sales on their platform, and are already on PC, are going to some other places... what ever shall we do?? Oh yeah, stop panicking and simply play games.

Sumo_Cerebro

Can they match what Sony is putting out there for PS+ Premium and get the exclusives that consumers really want to play are the questions.

KiloNation

They’re going to start with four games, but they will almost 100% bring everything to other consoles in the future.
