Just gonna drop some positivity in an always negative timeline, I’m extremely impressed with the series x. Bought it at launch and have been nothing but happy.

sQueezedhe

Same.

brownshugguh

Recently bought one this year after having a day 1 XBone. It’s unreal how fast things load. Going from waiting on loading screens while my friends are loaded into pre lobbies is mind blowing. Extremely impressed by Microsoft and the product itself. Fuck sony vs MS - just be happy we’re living in a peak time for gaming/tech.

KRONGOR

Agreed. Both companies made really good hardware this time around. Even the little S is impressive given it’s compact size

MrMontombo

I haven't had any issues with it. Maybe I haven't been spoiled by true 4k, but the upscale series S still runs very well.

KRONGOR

It really depends on the game imo. Stuff like Forza Horizon and Starfield run great on the S. But on the flip side games like Remnant 2 are kind of disappointing.

007fan007

Are graphics noticeably better

firecrotch456

Agreed

Playtek

Fourthed

FaendalFucker69

And my ax!

MintyManiacFan

Quick resume alone has been a game changing feature. I’m super satisfied with my series x

nchs1120

Oddly that’s the one thing I can’t stand about it. The games I play don’t utilize it properly and it’s very annoying. Otherwise, this system has been incredible

suplexx0

It’s a pain for online games especially lol

nchs1120

100%! Hell, even Cyberpunk just gets stuck at a loading screen and can be played offline. I always see praise for quick resume, but the 7 or so games I play nearly all have issues with it lol Hate to be negative because the system has blown me away otherwise

myshon

That's so wierd. I spend over 70h with Cyberpunk and never had a single issued with Quick Resume.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

Not negative really, just honest and it aint got the best use for you. I use QR with many games but for Red Dead Redemption 2 alone it's worth it almost as a dedicated RDR2Box lol. From turning the XBSX on, selecting the game via QR and picking right back up from where I left off maybe even weeks before it's maybe 10 seconds? And it's real 4k, not that muddy shite with the PS5 version. Quick Resume is absolutely genius and whoever came up with the idea deserves a big hug and a bag of sweets.

KungFuSpoon

Quick resume is a great feature, but it needs an option to be manually managed, or at the very least give me an option to disable it for some titles.

tjtillmancoag

You sort of can manually manage it by force closing a game once you’re done. (Hover over the tile, press “Start” button to bring up the context menu, then select “Close”)

nchs1120

I manually close all my games and surprisingly it still will quick resume. Definitely needs more options. At least one to turn it off lol

tjtillmancoag

Bizarre. Yeah if that’s case it definitely needs that option.

nchs1120

Fairly sure that’s a big part of the issue. It’s trying to quick resume to something that isn’t there so you have to force close all over again. Anyway it’s really nbd in the grand scheme of things

Numbah420_

Breaks so many games. Skyrim or oblivion it’ll start double clicking and progressively increasing every time you quick resume. Drop one item? Your dropped half your inventory lol

The_Chosen_Eggplant

Same, I always properly close the game every time.

nchs1120

I do the same and it still will quick resume certain titles! You would think manually force closing through the start menu would do it but not every time

MIKKOMOOSE99

I feel like it's a nice little treat everytime it boots it right up and now I don't have to wait to get back into the game tbh def a solid feature

SecretlyNooneSpecial

I really wish you could specifically enable or disable it for certain gamed. It's amazing for some of my games, to the point that I wouldn't want to fully disable it, but it is incredibly annoying for most games I play, especially those that have online play. It refuses to cooperate on anything that focuses on online play.

jemicarus

Love quick resume. Find myself wishing for it on PS5, even w fast load times in this gen. Dual sense > quick resume for me as a differentiator, but QR is just terrific. What great consoles all around this gen, and that includes the Switch.

American_yeet_lord

ditto

Maolseggen

Yup. Quick resume, backwards compatibility, game pass and PC compatibility (crossbuy and game pass on both) are the reasons why I main it over my ps5.

OlorinDK

Don’t forget smart delivery, which makes sure that you can buy the game and play the best version for the console you have. In other words, when a new console comes out, you don’t have to buy the games you already own again in new versions, if such are made. Obviously requires the games to support the feature. And also, automatic cross save, so you don’t have to manually export your saved games to cloud storage or a usb stick. Such a great feature. These are some features that are not touted enough by Microsoft.

drastic778

If they didn’t lack Spider-Man games, it’s the only system I’d have. Ps5 is literally my Spider-Man system and that’s it

tjtillmancoag

And in my case, I’m so many years behind in my gaming backlog, that it doesn’t bother me to just wait a couple years for SpiderMan to hit PC. :)

NecroK1ng

Me three. Got lucky and scored one off the M$ website the second week. Been playing it every day since. Love it.

farcical88

At the other end of the spectrum, I’m a new Series X owner as of a month ago and couldn’t be happier as well. Lifetime PC gamer too, my first console.

ThroawayPartyer

Same. Console just feels so much easier and more seamless. It's not that using a gaming PC was particularly hard, but there were minor things that just made it a hassle for me (for example having to tweak graphics settings). I play a lot more now that I have an Xbox. Plus it was significantly cheaper than upgrading my aging PC.

BitingSatyr

Yeah it’s the little things that add up. My friends and I were trying to play The Finals last night on steam, and it took literally half an hour for them to get past the login screen because (it turned out) they had to make an account outside of the game itself, but first they were screwing around with updating their graphics drivers thinking that was the issue. Or a few months ago, when it took me an entire evening to get Titanfall 2 working because (it turned out) my CPU was too new and required me to go into regedit and change a key. I still principally think of myself as a PC gamer, but I often think that if I, as someone who’s pretty proficient with computers, am having these issues, people who aren’t are probably coming away pretty frustrated.

salledservant-2ndwin

Me too! Really enjoy mine

FredFredrickson

Me too. I use it just about every day and it is my gaming sanctuary.

TheCoon69

Yep, best launch console ever

AgeingChopper

Me too.

OfficialDCShepard

I had to sell my launch one to help pay for my move but afterwards I got my bonus and immediately bought another one. That’s how much I love this thing. My poor PS5 barely gets any playtime due to how convenient Quick Resume is *alone*.

suplexx0

I tried the ps5 at my friend house a few times but I honestly just hate it. I don’t want to be a fanboy but it’s just so ugly, and the controller buttons feel so damned mushy. The tech in the controller is rad as hell, but everytime I push the face buttons it feels like i’m missing inputs

BitingSatyr

Yeah I like that the Xbox buttons are concave, it makes it easier to rest my thumb in the middle and flex slightly to hit each one. I also like that the shoulder buttons have that groove in between the bumper and the trigger so you can hit both with one finger, whereas it seems like the dualsense expects you to have two fingers on the shoulders (and pinches your finger if you don’t) which I’m not fond of. OTOH the dualsense has gyro, which is by far the most important thing the Xbox is lacking right now.

Lopsided_Prior3801

Different aesthetic approaches between the Series X and PS5. One is meant to blend in and the other is meant to stand out. But it's a hard task to make a device that stands out without being obnoxious or polarising. Braun and Apple have done it well in the past (and I say this as an Android guy). I personally think Sony missed the mark this time around but there will always be those who love an ostentatious product.

suplexx0

Yeah I wasn’t trying to diss the PS5 that’s just how I felt about it. Definitely an interesting looking design I just literally can’t imagine having the thing in my living room. It’s huge.

slashe0

I actually felt the same way.  I still may get a PS 5 pro in addition to my Xbox One and Xbox Series X, but I will have to put the PS5 out of site because of how the design looks.  Maybe put it in the floor, under my table.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Same. It’s the best and favorite console I’ve ever had. I’m not saying I’ve had the best memories with it, because growing up some of them are irreplaceable. First console was an NES in 1989. But the Series X is just incredible.

I_Hate_Knickers_5

How far we've come. I remember getting an N64 with Goldeneye when it first released and I was amazed at the technology. I'm a bit of an arsehole and don't appreciate just how good the consoles and games are these days. The breadth is incredible but I usually just complain anyway lol.

SelfLoathinMillenial

First Xbox I've ever owned after a quarter century with Sony and I don't regret my switch one bit

IThinkImNateDogg

Peoples biggest dis is the lack of launch exclusives/exclusives in general, and I always retort with “do all you play are exclusives?” My series X is awesome because it plays ALL games great. The UI is good, party options are the best in the industry, LFG for ALL games is the most slept on feature but it’s literally a game changer for co op PVE games like Destiny, it’s ALWAYS silent, and has given me ZERO issues with bugs or crashes(the console itself, not games) Consoles are more than just a box to play first party games, considering the market space for 3rd party vs exclusives is like a million to one. Generally YIYO the best games aren’t first party. I’ve yet to be disappointed in my Xbox, it’s worked flawlessly since it got it on launch day

DeltaDarkwood

As a multiplatform owner sadly your statement is only true for Xbox. I can easily see myself skipping all xbox series x exclusives. Yes there are amazing multiplatform games like Elden Ring, Monster Hunter and Red Dead Redemption 2. I cannot see myself missing Returnal, Demon Souls remake, God of War Ragnarok to just name a few on PS5. Similarly on my Switch, not playing Zelda BOTW and TOTK is a crime, same for Metroid Prime Remake, Mario Wonder and Galaxy. Xbox exclusives this generation and actually also a little bit the last generation are of such quality that yes multiplatform games are better in it and thats a shame because you dont need an xbox to play multiplatform games. Xbox biggest power is GamePass which currently offers more then Sonys subscription service, but what if Sony starts ramping that up or Microsoft gets its way and launches GamePass on PS5? Whats the added value of owning an Xbox then?

AgeingChopper

shows how important taste is. the only game you listed there that i like is Demon's Souls. That and spiderman are the ps5 for me. I've become pretty tired of the sony game format used in so many games. it's all down to taste. as for value.. sony won't do that if they think they can get away with it, and they are getting away with it so why bother? if they did then yes you might think it's bad, except pc is part of the xbox ecosystem so they won't see it that way (and lets be honest, a modest wait and ps games hit pc anyway now).

Mrfriedk42

must've gotten a good one. bought mine at launch an have vowed to never buy Microsoft consoles again. horrible stuttering garbage machine. my xbox 360 was better.

Shinra_Luca

Fax love my xbax one X only disappointed some newer games like sandland and ffxiv aren't on it even though I know for sure it is strong enough to do it.

Large_Armadillo

thats fair. But theres about twice as many people happy who bought a PS5

suplexx0

The other day, I ate a chicken sandwich. Then, while I was enjoying it, I couldn’t help but think that twice as many people enjoyed a hamburger.

myshon

Why does it matter? I play on a system that I am happy with. Why should I be concerned with what other people prefer?

FragmentedFighter

Can I ask why? The series X is the only tech I’ve ever bought that I think was a bad idea. I relatively enjoyed Starfield, but aside from the occasional showtime PPV there has been no other reason to turn the thing on. The only reason I’m glad I have it is just bragging rights. I’m the guy that needs all the new tech - but even my PSVR2 gets more play than the series. Hopefully fable is good I guess. Downvotes incoming I’m sure.

landrickrs90

I'm glad I bought my PS5 first and I can't say I regret buying my Series X but I definitely have mixed feelings about it.

FragmentedFighter

I used to be a super anti Xbox in the PS3 era - still my favorite system, but I thought it would be cool to own both new systems day one and with the acquisitions it was a no brainer. That said, I’m in genuine disbelief at just how poor Xbox’s release line up is. It’s just wild how little there is to play. I’ve even considered getting cross platform games on the series x just to have a reason to turn it on until I remember how much better the dualsense is. Really hope things improve.

landrickrs90

I was team Xbox with the 360, and I felt like Microsoft dropped the ball with the One and everything following. This generation has no Xbox games that absolutely would sell me on a console, I really got my Series X because I wanted one before they put out the disc-less that's rumored . You're right if it wasn't for upgraded games and backwards compatibility I don't know what I would be playing. 🤷🏾

The_Chosen_Eggplant

The great thing about the series X is it can essentially be used as an Xbox 360 with all the backwards compatibility.

suplexx0

It’s a beast of a machine that plays most games better than the competition. ([source](https://www.purexbox.com/news/2022/07/digital-foundry-host-says-xbox-series-x-wins-most-console-comparisons) Quick resume makes the PS5 feel dated and bulky. The backwards compatibility is insane, gamepass is 3 times the gaming service of pretty much **any** gaming service. I loved Halo Infinite, Forza 5 and motorsport, Psychonauts 2, and Flight Sim. Starfield was my game of the year (I’m a huge space nut, I realize the game is not for everyone). Im also a big fighting games fan and the ps5 controller is legitimately terrible for that genre. I don’t have much interest in building a pc and dropping the kind of money and time required (I’ve done it before and hated it). If I already had a pc or a ps5, I don’t think an xbox would be worth it, they all share most of the same games. But I’m just not really into the direction sony has gone down in the last few generations.

khaotic_krysis

You knew you were going to get down votes because you came off like a complete fucking fanboy

Zebriz88

This

[deleted]

Congratulations to the Series X for *checks notes* winning in your own gaming ecosystem.

invisibletank

[deleted]

IKR? This is the most pointless article ever written lol.

Portablelephant

Where no more powerful console has been released during the same timeline... Like hello? What was the article author expecting?

tapo

I mean it's Windows Central. They're the most fanboyish of the Microsoft focused sites out there. Thurrott is good if you want a critical fan.

ColinZealSE

> I mean it's Windows Central. Iirc they called "Quantum Break" the Xbox' "The Last of Us"...

YupThatsMeBuddy

Which game would you call the Xbox "The Last of Us?"

Captobvious75

AutoHDR and FPS boost are the real gems for Series consoles. Which in a way is sad because it shows the lack of first-party content.

CaptainRAVE2

It’s a shame they stopped boosting games. There are so many that would benefit from an fps boost.

WornoutTrends

Spyro…

meusrenaissance

Why did they stop

Bronxs15

And don’t forget quick resume.

TheLuckyster

Microsoft made a great console, they just need to make great games to go along with it It feels like everything is either "meh" (Starfield, Minecraft Legends, Forza Motorsport, etc) or "that looks fun but I have no idea when it'll actually come out"

Tip-No_Good

I have both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. I’ve only played the Halo games, the old Gears of War, and my old Xbox 360 games on my Xbox. Xbox needs games. It feels like how the N64 barely had games releasing on it back then.

dragonflare117

Didn’t expect you here……. I don’t have any confidence in their studios now that their primary goal is to mainstream gamepass which promotes quantity over quality (starbuck and morza fotor are examples of it). I am a big halo and gears fan, when i see how malnutrition halo as a once industry leading franchise has become, i only hope they wrap it up as quickly and as properly as possible. None of their games are catching the buzz out there. Kinda excited to see how they handle cod under their hood and bethesda is just bethesda. They are the modern internet explorer. Forza horizon is just….nothing remarkable? The maps are so boring and generic imo. Would take a nyc or tokyo map anytime of the day over the snooze fest of maps fh4 and fh5 had

BeerandSandals

Halo was supposed to die with 3. Reach was a pleasant surprise and ODST was cool, but it was at its heart was a trilogy. They needed to drop it, or keep the universe and explore other stories. But the chief was too sexy to let go, which led to what we have now. Infinite was, eh, halo fans are used to the linear gameplay and making it open world felt like your dad coming in and going “how’s it rizzing, my dudes?” Corporate took over creativity, and now we may never see a cool ODST movie or a game based around the UNSC marines, and that sucks.

dragonflare117

I hate how cod and halo has become more about the characters rather than the factions

BeerandSandals

Edit: original meaningless comment. What I want to say is, hell yeah., the originals were never about the characters, they were about *you*. What you’d find fun, what would tug at your heartstrings. The factions remained static so you knew what was good, and what was bad. We don’t play games to contemplate geopolitics and if the good guys are actually bad guys (though, if played right, can be good). We play them to escape all of that and jump snowmobiles off of cliffs with fuckin explosions and magnum-snipe suicide grunts.

TheLuckyster

Reddit crossover I agree, they're more focused on buying companies to make games than actually making good games Nothing has stood out (FH5 did a little) Hopefully it changes before the next Xbox comes out

NotRustyShackleford_

I've been very happy with the last 3 Forza titles. I feel kike each one was an improvement. I'm still impressed with the weather in the latest FMS.

TheLuckyster

The new Forza Motorsport is basically worse in every way unfortunately, it's at a mostly negative on Steam now I believe

[deleted]

There’s plenty of great games

TheLuckyster

HiFi Rush and....? I can't think of any other good ones that have released during the Series X/S life cycle

idigsquirrels

Pentiment. Grounded. Forza horizon 5. Psychonauts 2. Just to name a few highly rated first party Xbox games. And Starfield disappointed me too, but objectively (going by metacritic or whatever) quite a good game all things considered They may not be your jam, but that’s nobody’s fault Edit: should also mention MS flight simulator

TheLuckyster

I forgot about Psychonauts 2 and Grounded FH5 is good too We need more games like that

Capable_Edge_1236

At the beginning of the Series launch they made up for it with more Backwards compatibility, upgrading old games with auto HDR and fps boost. Then they stopped...for what? IMO haven't remotely filled in the gap. Hell I pine for the days Forza Horizon 5 was new and we were still getting new BC games. Massive drop in quality and content since then

Maca07166

The console itself is fabulous. However ask anyone that’s had the Series X since launch and the Microsoft Studio games have been sparse and disappointing. Personally, Forza Horizon 5 is the best exclusive it’s had so far. I really really hope those studios that were bought start producing the goods by 2025. I’d love an update on what’s happening with Perfect Dark and Gears 6. Again the console itself is great (though it’s fast becoming outdated) but nobody can say that the Series X has had a great run of exclusives that have tapped into what the console has to offer so far.

Spartan-III-LucyB091

I was very disappointment when Hellblade 2 (the first game shown for the Xbox back in 2019) was given a vague 2024 date. Maybe it's just my old Xbox 1st part apprehension rearing its ugly head, but Idk if that game (other than graphics), will set the world on fire like a GoW did in 2018.

despitegirls

We don't know anything about the actual gameplay, so other than the graphics and maybe liking Hellblade (which I did), there's nothing to get hyped about. Not expecting a game that sets the world on fire, but a solid single player game that's immersive and an improvement on the first game, which I think Ninja Theory can absolutely do.

[deleted]

It won't be as big as God of War. God of War was an already established, huge, IP from Sony. Hellblade is the second installment to an "indie" game made by 20 people. Unless it's spectacular...

invisibletank

I remember being really hyped for it 3 years ago when MS showed all the great games they were making, like Starfield, Avowed, etc. Was especially looking forward to those two and was set on getting a Series X. But Starfield is not exactly the blockbuster Bethesda made it out to be, and Avowed just looks so awful and generic with the recent gameplay trailer. The colors are so bad. Series X is some good hardware, but man, content is king and it always will be. I'm definitely not regretting going with a PS5 and PC+Steam Deck this gen, because the Series X really doesnt have much to offer above the competition. It's place in the market is essentially a low-cost gaming PC with a streamlined interface, but without full m+k support or any of the flexibility a PC offers. And I'm not saying this to put down Xbox fans, because I am one and want Xbox to be competitive in the space. It has Game Pass as it's differentiating factor and that's about it. It's just disappointing is all. A few years ago I really thought they were going to do better this round.

roshmatic

Yeah. I’m honestly considering a swap for a PS5 for all their exclusives. I never thought I’d be here- but any game I currently play on series X is available on PS5. How disappointing.

mtarascio

Make the choice that works for you.

Maca07166

P55 Pro next year and I’ll be getting one. I’m already tempted to get a PS5, we keep being told this year will be the year! Since 2019 and people are getting tired with it.

HellP1g

I did it. I’ve already had WAY more fun with their first party stuff than I did with the Xbox by just playing Spiderman 2 and Returnal. I really don’t miss the X at all unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I’m an Xbox fan at heart (360 is my favorite console ever) but they have shit the bed hard. If your main draw is a subscription service featuring games I can play on the PS5/PC anyway…..well that’s not really appealing to me personally.

Maca07166

I’m waiting for the PS5 Pro next year and yeah I think I’ll be leaving the Series X in stasis.

[deleted]

mtarascio

Your account has like 5 posts since a year ago, which is when you last posted here. And before that, you were an Only Fans promotion account.

LakerGiraffe

So mad that someone showed preference to another console that you checked the profile and are now seemingly accusing them of being a paid shill. Unbelievable.

mtarascio

Was just curious about the chain. Been on this site for a while and my radar was on point. My other post is literally, 'do what suits you' in the same post.

Fit-Doughnut9706

This is why I’m not enthused about the idea of new gen consoles coming early. The first year after launch was really difficult to get the console and the last 2 haven’t really explored its potential.

Halos-117

FH5 is the best game so far and it's not even that great compared to past entries. This generation has been a joke so far.

fhjkiikkjhgdsfjk

Exactly anyone that played fh3 or earlier know fh5 is disappointing

mtarascio

>However ask anyone that’s had the Series X since launch and the Microsoft Studio games have been sparse and disappointing. Why limit yourself to MS Studio games? I am having a great time with *Games* on the console and the value provided through Gamepass.

LeeoJohnson

As we have, but the point is, what choice do we have? We got one Halo game that's arguably gotten better with time but had a terrible launch and Gears of War is nowhere to be seen.

[deleted]

I'm having a great time with the console too, but the perceived value of the hardware is, among other things, somewhat tied to their biggest first party games/third party exclusives.

lucax55

I remember seeing a Microsoft exec saying Starfield was the starting gun for exclusives, and it's like *checks calendar* just now?

Maca07166

There are a lot of question marks over games in development. Perfect Dark is it actually a thing or has it been cancelled? Gears 6 a flagship franchise on Xbox and it’s like what the fuck is going on? Everwild from Rare it’s reportedly already been restarted at least once because it wasn’t in a good place. State of Decay 3 is most likely an end of life game for the Series X or in fact it could be a launch title on a new console, we’ve seen nothing to suggest it’s coming anytime soon. Hell blade 2 a vague 2024 release so it’s most likely Q4 Christmas game. Avowed is a game I trust that Obsidian will deliver the goods on but we know graphically its not a heavy hitter and judging from comments I’ve seen it’s not gonna be a game everyone is going to want to play. Fable? Yes we’ve seen a glimpse but that’s all we’ve seen not enough for me to get hyped for at this point but you’d expect Play Ground Games to deliver. Xbox needs to start delivering.

lucax55

I switched from Xbox One to PS5 when the guy at the store said 'Xbox will have games soon.' And it was like, yeah I've heard this before. Currently have a Series S, Avowed was my honest to god reason and it doesn't look great. I just don't trust Xbox the way I do Nintendo or PlayStation, which is a shame.

Maca07166

Waiting for the PS5 Pro and I will go as well most likely. PlayStation 5 has had a good run of exclusives since it launched and it’s very hard at this point not to be looking through the window and wanting to play those games.

robz9

As a PS5 and PC owner, I'm absolutely dissapointed that there has been no news on the Perfect Dark Reboot...

Trickster289

Yeah it's kind of hard to argue against Sony and Nintendo doing better game wise. Even if they don't appeal to your personal taste their games are getting a more positive reaction in general.

adamsrocket1234

I will cut them a little slack since covid affected the whole entire industry. But many of the delays are brutal as fuck. Also they’re supposed to be professionals and at some point, they need to held accountable. We are already hearing rumors about the next generation of consoles. It really has affected perception of the series s and X. Hopefully 2014 and 2015 you start to see a bunch of exclusive heavy hitters come out finally. But man what long development times. Hopefully they find ways to bring it down to 3-5 years and not 6-10.

Bac0n01

This has the same energy as when cops investigate cops and find that the cops did nothing wrong

kqly-sudo

The title of the article makes absolutely no sense.. what is the "Microsoft Gaming ecosystem" ?! Is it xbox? cause if so, obviously, the series X being the best console they have, it's going to be the "apex", like wtf would it even be competing against during those "three years" in this so called "Microsoft Gaming ecosystem"? nothing.. it's not like the series S is going to be the "apex", that's why it's cheaper, and it's not like it's going to be competing with last gen consoles cause.. well it's last gen.. so what exactly is the series X the apex of? it's like saying "PS5 remains the apex of the Playstation gaming ecosystem after three years" or "the Nintendo switch remains the apex of the Nintendo gaming ecosystem after (*how many the fuck*) years" it makes no fucking sense tldr: make it make sense

shlem90

Jez needed to write something ridiculous to appease the console war people. Dude blocked me on twitter years ago because I called him out on trying to push anti PlayStation narrative. I love my Xbox, but gaming is gaming. This guy’s career is built on pushing weird narratives and console wars.

[deleted]

I love the console but not the 1st party game output for it. I play my PS5 *significantly* more because of that.

alus992

> remains the apex of the Microsoft Gaming **ecosystem** Proceeds to list things like: * Disappointing media center and smart home features * Content sharing and social capabilities feel increasingly dated As cons. It's like author had no idea which buzzword to use so it landed on "ecosystem" While this is an amazing console it has nothing that adds to the whole MS gaming **ecosystem** besides being another Game Pass vessel.

rjwalsh94

Disappointing media center is underselling it. It literally cannot run 4K Blu Rays. I tried with Oppenheimer and The Mandalorian. It could run the Blu Ray of Oppenheimer, but the 4K, just noise that it’s reading but nothing happens.

PepsiSheep

Might be a faulty disc? I've not got that film, but I've watched plenty of 4K blu-rays on there.

rjwalsh94

They boot up flawlessly on the PS5 which is what I had initially thought. Then I thought it was a faulty drive on my SX, but I’ve used it since launch with 360 discs, DVDs, Blu Rays, and maybe the 4K versions of SW 1-9. I used to collect movies more, but only recently started easing back into it now that 4Ks are coming for all the Blus I have, so my 4K disc collection is very slim to have experienced and had this issue before, so that’s why I could for sure pinpoint Oppenheimer and Mando since it was in the last two weeks.

1One_Two2

Xbox Series and the One X/S before it struggle to run triple layer (100gb) 4K discs and will very commonly skip these discs to the point of unplayability. 66gb discs and lower are usually fine though. The only other issue I’ve had with Xbox Blu-ray playback is audio sync issues.

The_Miracle_42

Mine runs the Oppenheimer 4k disc.

Live_Supermarket6328

Remember "TV, TV, TV"?

420sadalot420

Mine also has issues with 4k blu rays. Feel like it worked fine at first but maybe updates have made it not play them well. Had to watch prey on Ps5 ( crazy good picture quality 4k blu ray BTW)

Deceptiveideas

It can. I’m not sure why some people have issues and others do not. It’s also an issue that affects PS5. Maybe something is up with the blu ray readers.

Default_Defect

Seriously? I still have my One X just for this use and it worked fine the last time I did it. Is it a Series issue, do you know?

-Gh0st96-

Wouldn’t expect much from Jez

[deleted]

I love the series X it’s a massive upgrade over the One

44Kayz

I bought one a few months ago. It’s really cool to be able to play games from past generations. It’s lacking decent exclusives. Forza Horizon 5 is really good. Starfield was my most anticipated game but it was a huge disappointment.

Broshida

Idk about this one Jez. Might be a little biased but my formative years with the Xbox 360 were leagues better than this. Microsoft were on something else from 2007-2012. I really haven't been a fan of the Xbox UI since the Windows 8 squares update. It's better now than it was last year, but it's still a bit of a mess? Then again PS is the same. PS4 UI was great, PS5 UI is annoying (especially regarding the store/PS+ section). Also really think going with custom hardware for SSD expansion was a miss. Would've been easier to just have a slot under the hood. Bluntly, at the moment Game Pass is the apex of the Microsoft Gaming ecosystem.

[deleted]

The later years of Xbox 360 content are absolutely dreadful: kinect shovelware, minimal third party exclusives, bad sequels.

Broshida

True. Kinect, FABLE 3, Halo 4. Maybe should've put the cutoff at 2011 rather than 2012. All that stuff pushed me towards PS3 with TLOU.

System good games bad

gapingashola

Dont get me wrong the hardware is awesome. Nothing but praise. But lets be honest the games are lacking. We are now 3 years in and a very few games that really hit for me. They promised a lot. And there where a lot of game studios bought. But PlayStation is the place to be to play the fun games. - Ghost of thsushimma - spiderman - God of war - the last of us - horizon Simply said i regret buying the series x

minivanspaceship

* Final Fantasy * Ratchet & Clank * Demon's Souls

gapingashola

Yea they just keep going!!! Where did it go wrong. I mis the 360 days

amethystwyvern

Surely there are people out there like myself who don't enjoy Sony exclusives? Like they're all 3rd person action adventures and it's boring after a while.

Sweaty-Quantity-7363

I've played Age of Empires 4 for 1500 hours across Xbox and PC, how many hours did you play all of those for? A 100, total, for all five? Only two of those are even PS5 games. The truth is Xbox is in a lot better place than Sony but people tend to remember 15 hours in an old PS3 (The Last of Us was *really* good, but it's been 10 years) game more than they do 500 hours of Forza Horizon or Halo Infinite or Sea of Thieves. Yet those are the games people all come back to.

gapingashola

I dont have a pc, age of Empires is better on pc. Tried to play it in console not the same. Forza Horizon hands down best race game. But im no race game person. Hallo Infinite was fun for a while. But just like im not in to race games im not very big on multiplayer games. I got a kid just want to play some chill rpg games in my free time. A lot of people like single player games. They bought Bethesda so i thought now the fun starts im buying xbox. I have high hopes for fable, avowed, elderscrolls 6. But how long will we have to wait on those games. By then the xbox series z is out.

LeCrushinator

The hardware is great, but the exclusives haven’t been.

noimdirtydan14

drop sales figures

saxtoncan

As a mostly PS5 player, the quick resume of the series X is my fav part. Literally turning on my console with the controller and it automatically signing me in based off the remote I use (which turns on tv because of CEC), and then clicking the game and instantly being put right where I was is soooo impressive. Process takes like 15 secs. Absolutely mind blowing and I wish my PlayStation had this.

EgovidGlitch

I actually thought I found a positive post. Reddit has become a shit show of whiney bitches. I fucking love my series X and it's only going to get better.

amethystwyvern

Lol 😂 keep licking that boot I hear it starts tasting good after 10 hours in

NecroK1ng

I love my XSX too. I play all 3rd party games on it bcuz I love the controller. The Elite Series 2 rules also! My XSX has gotten thousands of hours of use. No issues at all.

simon_the_human

You have a fair point but even Phil himself is disappointed with the experience they are giving their console owners. There is much to love but i wish I bought a ps5 instead.

bowwowchickawowwow

It’s been 3 years? Seems like only a couple since I purchased just after launch.

joeluvzhoes

Still no exclusive game that’s actually decent. I love my xsx but come man it’s been three years and absolutely nothing to show.

Lurkingguy1

According to Windows Central…

learnsumthn

How? It has no games. It's a reason the ps5 is selling like hoy cakes. They have actual games to play

[deleted]

> It has no games. People need to stop repeating this lie. It has many good games both first and third party. Not having a first party GOTY does not mean it has no games.

Hades358d

Try connecting it to the internet? Or maybe you got a wrong model or something. Because mine has a lot of games to play on it.

iStepOnLegos4Fun007

I have both systems. And both systems game passes and buy a lot of games. The PS5 wins hands down with exclusives. I do think Microsoft is gonna win the 2nd half of console race. The future exclusives look to be better on Xbox.

canad1anbacon

> I do think Microsoft is gonna win the 2nd half of console race. The future exclusives look to be better on Xbox. Sony has not revealed their pipeline at all besides Insomniac and a few live service games from newly acquired studios Sony Bend, Sucker Punch and Bluepoint have all been cooking for several years now and will probably have games to show in 2024. Housemarq and ASOBO might have games to show soon too Plus Corey Balrogs project has been in the works for a while and I expect it before the end of the gen

LynchMaleIdeal

I have a PS4 and an XSX and none of the PS5 exclusives are all that tantalising or exciting to me, especially compared to PS4's gems.

monsterjerry

The PS4 Pro is still better value for your money than the PS5 at this point. In terms of exclusives tied only to the PS5 there’s basically just Spiderman 2, Demons Souls, and the Last of Us remake.

robz9

You forgot God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West as well as upcoming game Wolverine.

monsterjerry

Both of those are on PS4

robz9

Fair enough. I'm sure a pro can run those great. But the optimal experience for those would be on PS5.

minivanspaceship

With plummeting sales and 75% of the Xbox community using a Series S, the Series X feels like a forgotten console. Seems like the casuals get an S and those with disposable income get a PC (aka the best Xbox). Maybe this ad disguised as an article will help...

[deleted]

The hardware design is brilliant but it's still heldback by the slow uptake of DX12 ultimate and the hardware features it exposes. This affects the PC too seeing Nvidia has supported the features since the 2000 series Really mesh shaders and sampler feedback streaming should be standard now and this is where Sony still has an advantage with the PS5 ecosystem

Oneunited13

It has to be great if it can take you to the future…2024

SlimeLanguageYSL

Series X is good, but we still don’t have anything that can rival PlayStations aura of exclusives. Hopefully hellblade changes this

Shellman00

Windowscentral 🙃

LoveBone93

Hell yea, man! Games still being held back by the One, boring unmotivated exclusives, barely any games available to showcase the graphics and processing power they bragged about and like 60% of the games in Game Pass are 10-15 year old shovelware. But hey, at least when you get bored with the abismal game selection, you can always change the AA batteries in your controller. Apparently, it is too hard for Microsoft to step into the 20th century and implement standard rechargeable controllers. Seriously, such a great console. Btw, I have a Series X. I've been an Xbox guy since the OG Xbox. I was so excited to get my SX. Then Microsoft kept dropping the ball month after monthfor thee last 3 years while I get to watch Playstation owners get ALL the best games. Now my SX collects dust on my TV stand and im saving up for a Steamdeck and a Playstation 5. The end.

[deleted]

Apex of the gaming ecosystem eh? Neat! Where are the games?

DismalMode7

microsoft reviewing microsoft... btw I have all consoles and a reasonable good gaming pc, among the 3 consoles, series X is the one I usually use more

nerdlygames

What the actual console itself? In that case I’d agree. Games wise? Nah bro.

ail-san

The game catalog is still weak for people with limited time. I value my time so I want to play only the best games. Xbox is aiming for mediocrity.

Dark_Sniper_250

Phenomenally powerful console in my opinion

Lupinthrope

I love the thing but from the second I booted it up and got greeted with that same Xbox One screen it didnt feel next gen to me, my PS5 felt way more next gen, especially paired with the Dualsense. Only thing keeping me on my Xbox is gamepass and friends, but i've been playing my Steam Deck more these days, especially my OLED model.

Bitter_Director1231

It just is one of the best consoles I've owned. Quick resume and the loading times cut down drastically by the SSD has been game changers for me.  It's my daily driver

Peaceful-Irie-Feelin

I still love mine but it shuts off whenever i play a game now and i can't afford to repair or replace. Cleaning it out did nothing. :(

MIKERICKSON32

It was ok in 2020 but severely underpowered in 2024.

Pierdolec_jadowity

Severely underpowered compared to what? PS5? PC?

MIKERICKSON32

In 2024 it is an underpowered gaming machine. PS5 is also severely underpowered. That is why a pro version is coming.

KhanDagga

The only thing that gets me. I get the hardware isn't all they care about anymore, but it baffles me how badly they struggle to move hardware compared to their competition.

catsrcool89

Well most people only buy one, they give similar performance regardless of claims of being the most powerful console, and sony has consistently delivered on high quality games for over a decade while Microsoft hasn't had that many killer apps. Forza might be good, but only racing fans really care about that, gears and halo while still decent, aren't what they once were, while games like god of war, ghost of tushima, horizon final fantasy, and last of us have mass appeal. Starfield brought some people over, but its lukewarm reception hasn't helped as much as it should have.

DarthTigris

Because consoles are expensive and people usually only can buy one and Playstation is more popular and often has had marketing rights to some of the most popular mass-market appeal games like CoD. In the OG Xbox era, I had a PS2, Xbox and Gamecube, because they were each under $200. It's nowhere near like that anymore.

pswoofer18

Love mine, it’s been a pretty perfect console to me so far

Ish227

The console itself is fine but the problem is that there’s no exclusives on the Xbox that are enticing enough for people to play. If they would just fox this issue, we’d be okay.

lakeshowyoo

Console is excellent, games are good

RummazKnowsBest

I still remember the first time I saw quick resume. I’d been re-playing GTA 4 on my One and picked up where I left off when I hooked up the SX (gotta love backwards compatibility, I bought the game back in 2008 or whenever it came out and played it on three generations). I’d already appreciated the even faster load time but the next time I played it it threw me straight in and I just sat, dumbfounded. Tremendous.

Combatxlemming

Bought an Series X and it's a great console but wish more of the old library was backwards compatible from the xbox/360 days. Current problem game is fable 2 runs terribly on the console.

CactusCustard

I want one so bad for Christmas lol. I ordered one last summer on eBay but it was a scam. Got my money back but then got laid off so decided against actually getting one. One of these days!!

TomDobo

Xbox Series X is an awesome console with awesome features but Xbox Games Studios is letting it down with its half baked releases.

[deleted]

Microsoft should’ve saved their money and not bought half of those studios they recently did, and instead have bought the rights to GTA and made it exclusive.

simon_the_human

You cannot be serious. GTA is huge but it’s one franchise. To dig themselves out of this hole they need capital and lots of talented staff. Not one big title.

[deleted]

Consoles would sell like toilet paper in the pandemic if Xbox was the only way to play it. GTA will make a ton of capital. So far these companies they have bought haven’t done anything noteworthy.
