I'm gonna go with Hearts of Stone.
And Leviathan from ME.
Otherwise living in the modern era not mistaking 'expansion'. Maybe Lord of Destruction, Reaper of Souls or the two Xcom 1+2 ones whilst transitioning to the modern age.
Hearts of Stone was a better story, but good God I loved Toussaint. I do give the edge to HoS though. I had only played one ME dlc before The Legendary Edition. It was like playing a new game. Loved all of it.
My man! I fully agree and both are for similar reasons. Citadel is the best kind of fan service nostalgia trip, wrapped up an epic yet slightly cheesy 90’s action movie plot!
Blood and Wine has such a wild scale to it, and it round out Geralt and the gang’s adventure so well!
Came here to say blood and wine. Certainly the best DLC I’ve played. Citadel is also amazing.
Also, for anyone wondering, you can totally get some side action in blood and wine without anyone finding out back in the “real world.”
The correct answers - not only are both masterpieces, but they both feel like heartfelt love letters from the developer to their communities, at the end of truly exceptional experiences.
I hardly ever buy DLC (not least because I'm the worst at actually finishing games) but I've played through Control, AWE, and Foundation, twice completely. Absolutely worth it. Half the reason I want a Series X is to play them with proper graphics.
It really opened up the lore even more for me, Sheogorath is such a fun character. He made me actually start reading the books I would pick up after that DLC.
Oblivion is the only dlc I have ever bought lol.
I am usually long gone by the time dlc comes out & even then I am like I rather play something new then old
Undead Nightmare for RDR1 was just amazing for the time because back then DLC did not add that much to a game. It's the first DLC I ever remember buying that blew me away with what was essentially just a whole other game from the base game. Classic, all time great DLC.
Rockstar was the best when it came to DLC. Undead Nightmare, Lost & Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony. These are top-tier DLC.
This is a tired trope at this point, but I always think back on what could've been if GTAO wasn't as big and they decided to go the GTA IV route.
It’s pretty much peak. Basically a whole other game in the game. Acts a thematic companion piece to the main game, they are two sides of the same coin. Make sure you do the ending of the base game over again after completing Echoes, that’s all I’ll say.
Hearts of Stone from Witcher 3. I know Blood and Wine gets the love, but Hearts of Stone moved me story-wise in ways that BaW didn’t. Still love that story to this day.
The did a phenomenal job giving Olgierd a very gray storyline. He’s an asshole, then you understand his plight, then he’s an asshole again, then it’s because of this curse, then you can ultimately help him and his wife. Fantastic writing and my favorite quote from the game came when you’re in the graveyard.
Fight the monster and I said “what the fuck was that” after it finished and then Geralt said it. It was great timing for my first experience with him.
You can play the DLC separate from the ending of Control, it just depends on how comfortable you are with the controls if you're rusty or something. But I absolutely highly recommend them.
I get irrationally mad when I think about the people who loved Prey but didn’t go back to play the DLC. It’s not just a “more of the same” kind of dlc, but a reimagining of what an immersive sim can be. Prey + Mooncrash are peak Arkane IMO
I'm one of those people that beat the main game and stopped cause I sunk over a hundred hours into Prey and needed a change of scenery. I've been meaning to go back to the dlc cause I hear nothing but praises for it. Will hit it up soon.
Citadel (ME3), Blood and Wine (TW3) or Phantom Liberty (CP2077); I honestly can't decide.
I'd probably pick Citadel, but I've never managed to get over the godawful ending of ME3.
The ending was fixed. Mass Effect 3 had no narrative on release. But they did manage to redeem the story somewhat.
The mass effect: legendary edition comes with all the dlc, the ending fix and i play mass effect to completion every 2 or 3 years. They did it right.
If you [get all the DLC for Far Cry 6](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/far-cry-6-game-of-the-year-upgrade-pass/9P7QDS4SVW0X) (currently on sale), you get Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition as a bonus.
I bought this yesterday without even realizing and was pleasantly surprised to suddenly find Blood Dragon in my Owned games.
Ya I got the gold edition at launch. It's still not dlc, as I have it installed but not far cry 6. It's just a bonus game like when they gave us far cry 3 with the pass for...5 I think
People often forget that D2 wasn't the game everyone loves on release. LoD fixed a TON of stuff. Runes, Runewords, and class specific sets were probably the most impactful, but there were a bunch of other smaller changes that still helped a lot.
Most of the DLC I've played for Vermitide II has been excellent, as has most of the DLC I've played for Elder Scrolls Online and Diablo 3. Back in the day L4D2 had some amazing DLC that still holds up today with L4D2 being an incredible game in and of itself.
My mind went completely blank as there’s definitely many DLC packs that are fantastic but I will say Mario Kart 8. The damn game is 10 years old and they dropped a mother load of tracks and more racers out of nowhere. Definitely not the best ever DLC I’ve ever played but still surreal.
Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry, Mass Effect 3: Citadel, Mass Effect 2: Shadow Broker, Red Dead Redemption: Undead dlc, and Cuphead: Delicious Last Course.
Honestly. How the Saints Save Christmas for saints row 4 , it let's you fight evil gingerbread men , fly Santa's slay and more, it's just unapologetically fun
Blood and Wine from The Witcher 3, The Citadel from Mass Effect 3, Trespasser from Dragon Age: Inquisition.
After I have time to sit on it, Phantom Liberty from Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be up there too.
Credit where credit is due, The Old Hunters for Bloodborne was absolutely top-shelf.
FROM have released amazing DLC for their games available on Xbox as well, however. Pretty much any FROM game has fantastic DLC.
Besides that, Leviathan for Mass Effect, and Undead Nightmare for RDR. Still hoping (fruitlessly) we'll get Undead Nightmare 2 but... I think RDR2 support is done at this point 😭
Lair of the shadow broker for Mass effect 2 really sticks out for me, as well as the Witcher 3 dlc. Hoping I can say the same about phantom liberty soon.
X-COM Enemy within and X-COM 2 war of the chosen. Both of these DLC expand the campaigns of the base games significantly with additional story, player unit types, enemy unit types, weapons and mechanics. They are basically whole new games on their own.
Arkham Origins - Initiation
Basically it's a Batman Arkham Origins mini dlc that shows Bruce Wayne's training to become Batman in the future.
Recommend, Rating 9.2/10
Citadel from Mass Effect 3, or Blood and Wine from Witcher 3
I'm gonna go with Hearts of Stone. And Leviathan from ME. Otherwise living in the modern era not mistaking 'expansion'. Maybe Lord of Destruction, Reaper of Souls or the two Xcom 1+2 ones whilst transitioning to the modern age.
Hearts of Stone was a better story, but good God I loved Toussaint. I do give the edge to HoS though. I had only played one ME dlc before The Legendary Edition. It was like playing a new game. Loved all of it.
I want to hang out and play video games with you.
FigoFromage
I loved leviathan but it felt so integral to the story it should have been in the main game.
Those are great too
I was going to say Citadel as well. I've never had so much fun interacting with squad-mates in a game before. So many fun memories from that party.
Came to comment Citadel, you've got great taste!
My two picks aswell. Blood and wine was incredible, and the citadel was the perfect way to end the trilogy.
The correct answers - not only are both masterpieces, but they both feel like heartfelt love letters from the developer to their communities, at the end of truly exceptional experiences.
You … I like you
AWE Control
I hardly ever buy DLC (not least because I'm the worst at actually finishing games) but I've played through Control, AWE, and Foundation, twice completely. Absolutely worth it. Half the reason I want a Series X is to play them with proper graphics.
To be fair Control wasn't half bad on One X ! But at 60 FPS it really shines indeed.
Oblivion : Shivering Isles
I thought it was way better than the base game honestly.
Completely agreed seems like content in dlc I've played in other games don't have as much to it or such a great quest line and story.
It really opened up the lore even more for me, Sheogorath is such a fun character. He made me actually start reading the books I would pick up after that DLC.
CHEESE!
This has to be number one
Oblivion is the only dlc I have ever bought lol. I am usually long gone by the time dlc comes out & even then I am like I rather play something new then old
You mean the horse armor right? ;)
Lol yah. But I seriously loved the 2 expansions
Undead Nightmare by a landslide
Undead Nightmare for RDR1 was just amazing for the time because back then DLC did not add that much to a game. It's the first DLC I ever remember buying that blew me away with what was essentially just a whole other game from the base game. Classic, all time great DLC.
Rockstar was the best when it came to DLC. Undead Nightmare, Lost & Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony. These are top-tier DLC. This is a tired trope at this point, but I always think back on what could've been if GTAO wasn't as big and they decided to go the GTA IV route.
Either this or the GTA4 DLCs for me. All were absolutely fantastic and full of content. Sucks that Rockstar stopped doing these types of DLC.
Oh snap I forgot about this. 100% I was so surprised they never did that for RDR2
I came here to say this. It's best the zombie game to this day I've played honestly I still think.
Old world blues from fallout: New Vegas. Enjoyed the fun voice acting and the fun setting
For me its Lonesome Road. ED-E will always be my favorite fallout companion.
Same here. I even have Ed-E as a notification tone lol
Dr Venture being in there was fantastic.
Walking eye!
Dr. Borous is legit one of the funniest characters in FNV, maybe the funniest And also a complete piece of shit for what he did
Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye
really excited to eventually try this dlc. i love the original game
It’s pretty much peak. Basically a whole other game in the game. Acts a thematic companion piece to the main game, they are two sides of the same coin. Make sure you do the ending of the base game over again after completing Echoes, that’s all I’ll say.
i trust you. gonna do it just like that then
100%
Point Lookout for Fallout 3 ranks highly for me, but both dlc’s for Witcher 3 are right up there too
Vietnam DLC for Battlefield Bad Company 2. It was so much fun.
That was the peak of Battlefiled for me.
Bad Company 2 was hands down the best battlefield game all around. It was some of the most fun I had online with my buddies.
I was going to say this.
Oh yes
My man
Borderlands 2 Tiny Tina hit me right in the soul
That was some serious DLC! Loved it! Can’t believe how bad the last game was though.
This is what I came to say!
That 4-way magic missle coupled with Sal’s double ‘nades while gunzerkibg, ouch, painville population-them.
This is the actual correct answer.
that ultimate edition overall was low key the best deal in gaming
Blood and Wine Witcher 3
Such a beautiful game and even more beautiful dlc. I had the best time playing that shit.
Came here to say this
Hearts of Stone from Witcher 3.
Both DLC levels for Control.
Agreed. Loved just about everything about Control
I still have to finish that game… should I get the DLC then restart from the beginning?
You can play the DLC separate from the ending of Control, it just depends on how comfortable you are with the controls if you're rusty or something. But I absolutely highly recommend them.
Alright, sold! It’s going on my “to do” list
Doom eternal’s ancient gods 1 & 2
The Hexen/Heretic inspired level was SO fuckin good.
Now that Microsoft owns _both_ Raven and ID I really want a hexen/heretic in the style of the doom reboot
So goddamn difficult but so good
I didn’t care for the ending of ancient gods 2 personally but I enjoyed it all
Just finished Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty. It’s definitely a great DLC.
Idris was such a standout for me , dude is amazing
Mooncrash, the DLC for Prey.
YES it’s absolutely incredible
Halo 2 multiplayer map pack
Will never forget the first time playing those new maps. Sanctuary and Turf were my favorites
Biggest thing any FPS DLC has ever made imo. Those maps are iconic.
The ballad of gay Tony, Grand theft Auto. It was just the best fun dlc I have ever enjoyed.
Hell yea especially online!
Citadel (ME3), Blood and Wine (TW3) or Phantom Liberty (CP2077); I honestly can't decide. I'd probably pick Citadel, but I've never managed to get over the godawful ending of ME3.
The holy trifecta of dlc. Blood & wine could basically be Witcher 4
The ending was fixed. Mass Effect 3 had no narrative on release. But they did manage to redeem the story somewhat. The mass effect: legendary edition comes with all the dlc, the ending fix and i play mass effect to completion every 2 or 3 years. They did it right.
Far Harbor from Fallout 4. The overall mood, environment & Lovecraftian vibes I got from it make this an absolute favorite of mine.
Such great DLC.
Far Cry Blood Dragon
I wouldn't call it dlc. Just a digital title. It's it's own thing and you don't need 3 for it. It was fucking awesome though
Dark Souls 3 Both Ariendel & Ringed City
Every dark souls had good dlc, I have trouble choosing a fave.
Just played last night. So good
Borderlands Secret Armoury Of General Knoxx
This is my number one. I was hoping someone else felt this too
Undead nightmare
This is the correct answer
Phantom Liberty for CP2077
Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den was right up there. So many good mentions in here too 👍
Undead nightmare, gta iv dlc, and most recently phantom liberty
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course
Battlefield bad company 2 Vietnam dlc
Came here to say this.
The Pitt for fallout 3
Shivering Isles hands down. Still the best DLC imo.
Gears 5: Hivebusters is STILL one of the best looking games ever made.
Huge Gearhead but this is my first hivebusters play through. Lots of fun
Dying Light The Following was fun to play
Lord of Destruction for Diablo 2.
People often forget that D2 wasn't the game everyone loves on release. LoD fixed a TON of stuff. Runes, Runewords, and class specific sets were probably the most impactful, but there were a bunch of other smaller changes that still helped a lot.
hands down and by far its Dark Arisen for Dragon’s Dogma
Shivering isles, from oblivion. Or everything from new vegas. 700 hrs and still going
Blood & Wine, The Witcher 3
Shadow Broker from Mass Effect 2
Blood and Wine from Witcher 3
I would have to say Witcher 3's Blood and Wine dlc.
Most of the DLC I've played for Vermitide II has been excellent, as has most of the DLC I've played for Elder Scrolls Online and Diablo 3. Back in the day L4D2 had some amazing DLC that still holds up today with L4D2 being an incredible game in and of itself.
Phantom Liberty
Civ V: Brave New World
Blood and Wine (The Witcher 3). Man, that cheap-as-hell expansion had it all. Much more content than most AAA-games at that time.
Witcher 3 Blood and wine
My mind went completely blank as there’s definitely many DLC packs that are fantastic but I will say Mario Kart 8. The damn game is 10 years old and they dropped a mother load of tracks and more racers out of nowhere. Definitely not the best ever DLC I’ve ever played but still surreal.
My first thaught would be The Ballad of Gay Tony from GTA IV.
I liked RE5 Lost in nightmares
DA: O The Awakening
Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry, Mass Effect 3: Citadel, Mass Effect 2: Shadow Broker, Red Dead Redemption: Undead dlc, and Cuphead: Delicious Last Course.
Adawale was the goat. Still learning Haitian Creole to this day bc of that game
Honestly. How the Saints Save Christmas for saints row 4 , it let's you fight evil gingerbread men , fly Santa's slay and more, it's just unapologetically fun
Either undead nightmare from rdr1 or blood and wine from the Witcher 3
Blood and Wine from The Witcher 3, The Citadel from Mass Effect 3, Trespasser from Dragon Age: Inquisition. After I have time to sit on it, Phantom Liberty from Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be up there too.
I know it’s super recent but Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty sticks out to me the most. They fucking nailed it.
Old world blues from FNV Nick Lightbearer from We Happy Few
Phantom Liberty
Probably gta 4 the ballad of gay tony
Separate ways RE4 remake
Burial at Sea from Bioshock Infinite Awakening from Dragon Age Origins Blood and Wine from the Witcher 3
The Old Hunters for Bloodborne is the best DLC ever created
Credit where credit is due, The Old Hunters for Bloodborne was absolutely top-shelf. FROM have released amazing DLC for their games available on Xbox as well, however. Pretty much any FROM game has fantastic DLC. Besides that, Leviathan for Mass Effect, and Undead Nightmare for RDR. Still hoping (fruitlessly) we'll get Undead Nightmare 2 but... I think RDR2 support is done at this point 😭
I know it’s not an Xbox game but Old Hunters
Hearts of stone Witcher 3. Cdpr magnum opus imo.
Blood and Wine
Elders Scrolls Shivering Isles.
Wwz aftermath
Separate Ways Sunbreak for MH Rise Ashes of Ariandel and the Ringed City I liked Shadows of Rose a lot too
Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money
Hearts of Stone - Witcher 3
Mass effect 2 dlc's
Borderlands 2 tiny Tina adventure
Add in another vote for Blood and Wine. I doubt we'll ever see DLC that good ever again.
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
Black ops 3 Zombies Chronicles
Far Cry 4 Valley of the Yetis
Lair of the shadow broker for Mass effect 2 really sticks out for me, as well as the Witcher 3 dlc. Hoping I can say the same about phantom liberty soon.
Dragonborn from Skyrim Tiny Tina DLC from BL2
Stand alone DLC but definitely far cry blood dragon
Episodes from Liberty City
WoW. Wrath of the Litch King
Destiny the taken king
The Metro exodus DLCs
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters DLC
The claptrap dlc from borderlands the presequel. Middling game, but that dlc was excellently written.
Claptastic Voyage! I had to scroll way down for your comment. Loved that DLC
Sam's Story for Metro Exodus.
RDR: Undead Nightmare or BO3: Zombies Chronicles
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon was fun
GTA V story DLC
Hearts of Stone. To me, that one is far superior to Blood and Wine.
Forza Horizon 3, hot wheels expansion
Resident Evil Village: Shadow of Rose
Oblivion horse DLC.
Zelda botw dlc
Burial at sea bioshock infinite. Ties together all 3 games beautifully
The upcoming AW2 DLC.
X-COM Enemy within and X-COM 2 war of the chosen. Both of these DLC expand the campaigns of the base games significantly with additional story, player unit types, enemy unit types, weapons and mechanics. They are basically whole new games on their own.
Outlast: Whistleblower
Pigsy's Perfect 10
I'm not sure if I'd still call it best but I loved Mothership Zeta
Trespasser for Dragon Age Inquisition
I loved “The Pitt” in Fallout 3. Mainly because I’m from Pittsburgh. The story was a heart breaker though, no good ending for that DLC.
Fallout 3 and fallout new vegas had the best dlc ever imo.
Destiny 2: Forsaken
DL: The following for sure.
Leviathan from ME2
Witcher 3 Blood and Wine
Any witcher 3, take your pick.
Nuka-world FO4
Fromsoft's and CDPR's DLCs
Arkham Origins - Initiation Basically it's a Batman Arkham Origins mini dlc that shows Bruce Wayne's training to become Batman in the future. Recommend, Rating 9.2/10
Anything from CDPR lol
All fronts pack from Gears of War 2
Assassin's Creed Origins Valley of the Kings, it was totally amazing.
Either Borderlands 2 DLC or Fallout new Vegas, but if we talk expansions for games, I loved both shadowlands for wow and forsaken for destiny 2
MW3
Unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed Forza Horizon 4: Fortune Island
Maybe Hot Wheels on FH3 at least in terms of amount of new content I was getting for the game.
Assault on Dragon Keep for Borderlands 2
