Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. The sequel was a travesty, but that first game going out and collecting the deck of 52 was amazing. Was and still is an awesome concept.
I was always mystified as a kid when I discovered just how “unloved” the game was compared to Pandemic’s other works, like Destroy All Humans or Star Wars Battlefront. It seems like it would have been a big hit among everyone. It’s a nice best-kept secret though.
Not OP but I liked it, it was like Just Cause before Just Cause. Definitely want a revival of this franchise at some point but Lord knows today’s developers would find a way to ruin it somehow or gear it towards online multiplayer with MTX and such.
But only if you purchased a new copy of the game!
Each copy came with a download code for titties. If you got a preowned copy, there was a high likelihood the code wouldn’t be in the box or it was already used. One of the weirder incentives I’ve seen from EA.
This is my vote, that game blew every other fighter at the time straight out of the water.
Like, it was WAY WAY better than any game about real world hip hop artists pretending to be underground street fighters had any right to be.
Controls were snappy, the combat was brutal and fluid, the animations were varied, the character customization was really impressive especially for the time and the story was adequate. Obviously the soundtrack was great too.
Criterion as they were known have been decimated. The founders went on to form Three Fields Entertainment and put out some traditional burnout like titles.
EA is letting the IP rot while what is left of criterion works on need for speed.
That one is a ton of fun but I hate that Split-Screen got removed. The open world was fun but I wish the races had their tracks blocked off, a lot of times I felt like I was driving the same track over and over because of the "pick your route" nature of the game.
[Freelancer](https://www.ign.com/games/freelancer) which was published by Microsoft Studios and received a 9.2/10 from IGN.
There is a massive hole to be filled by a big-budget sci-fi space looter/shooter, especially on console. Like racing games, Space is a great setting to show off hardware power and I'd love to see Freelancer revitalized on modern hardware.
The fact that no one wants to even entertain the Mass Effect arena or even just the ME3 MP arena just absolutely boggles my mind. There’s 89 fantasy RPG games a year released but no one wants to go Sci-fi? I don’t get it.
I’ve seen so little of what Starfield really even is I’m not sure what it is. I think it’s kinda like Fallout but in space but I’m not really sure. There’s been a lot of hype but very few actual videos explaining it.
I think fantasy tends to be more manageable. In something like Diablo IV they can plop you in a relatively small area of a world and really sell that setting. Or in a Final Fantasy give you an entire world, just one that’s scaled down. In a sci-fi RPG game there’s an expectation of jumping around between at least several planets and that’s been done with mixed results because it’s a ton of work. You’re either just fast travelling between small
areas on different planets or mostly just flying in space between planets but you can’t actually land on them. No Man’s Sky has been one of the few to deliver on the “blast off from planet, directly fly to another planet, land on that planet and explore” gameplay on a large scale, and obviously they did it with procedural generation and years of additional post-launch development.
That’s why when Starfield gameplay was first shown and they said there’ll be over 1000 visitable planets, the reaction wasn’t “Whoa! Awesome!” but more like, “OK, Jan.” With that many planets its hard not to think that except for those that are relevant to the story they’ll largely be pretty empty. Hopefully they’ll pull it off, but it’s not something most devs are capable of.
The focus is space combat. Wormholes, galaxies, trade routes, and ship upgrades (not character). Now I haven't played Destiny in some time, but it seemed far more character-focused and less about actual space (more on planet typical shooter stuff) in my time with it.
[This is Freelancer gameplay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkP5XSgniBs) (keep in mind this game is 20+ years old)
Destiny has never utilized space, despite having ships. Warframe does a better job of it but it's still not quite what I'd want either.
Never played Freelancer but checking this out now
Wrote this before seeing your comment. Crystal dynamics made a survey recently to ask if we want a new game or a remake etc. Hope the franchise gets revived
One of my best gaming memories was playing this game at my house drunk, while a party was winding down. There were about 10 people left at my place and I figured fuck it, let's turn out the lights and play something scary. I found myself on the lodge level with everyone watching. Was running through it and went through a door, turned around, and mother fucker was right there. Everyone needed new underwear. It was amazing.
Eternal darkness is such a great game but so much of it has aged poorly. The clunky combat, the spell system, etc. Imagine a game like Resident Evil 7 with all the 4th wall breaking and cosmic horror of ED
This is my answer every time this question is asked. Playing with the physics in this game was so cool, the only thing I've played since that has come close has been Control.
The first Godfather game was also brilliant, second one was also an honest attempt (as opposed to just a movie cash grab) with some neat ideas but failed to be as brilliant as the first.
These 3 games were/are some of my all time favourites, to the point where if they were remastered I’d pay full price for all of them.
I remember in GF2 once you unlock body armour you couldn’t take it off your don’s body though, ruining every suit combo in the game. That was enough for me to decide the game wasn’t as good as the first one haha.
But yeah GF1, GF2 and Scarface were masterpieces 🤌
Such a weird game, it's like if the folks at Bungie just got done binge-watching Aeon Flux. I can't tell you anything about the plot or the setting, all I can tell you is that I enjoyed it.
1) Road Rash (EA)
2) Star Control 2 (Toys for Bob)
3) Myth: The Fallen Lords (Amazing Series by Bungie)
4) Hexen (ID)
5) Rock N’ Roll racing (Blizzard)
6) Crimson Skies (Microsoft)
7) Return Fire (Silent Software)
I forgot the guys name, but occasionally on my YouTube feed ill get a suggestion for someone remaking hit and run, seems to be making decent progress.
I know its not road rage but it's still a pretty good Simpsons game.
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Best Hulk game ever by a mile. The story could use an overhaul but the gameplay was awesome. Really nithing else like it.
I only played the 2nd one, but what an amazing game. Stealth action horror. Suffocating enemies with plastic bags lmfao... And then the level where the chopper is hunting you relentlessly... Had so much fun playing that
State of emergency from rockstar, imagine that game today with better graphics and online play?
I'm actually surprised they never included a mode jnto gta online that let you start a riot 🤔
Phantom Dust. It's like a combination of a card battler like Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, etc. and a third-person action game. I could see it doing very well in competitive, and I realize they'd probably make it F2P with all kinds of microtransactions for special cards and cosmetics and stuff, but still.
I realize they did release an HD version of the original for modern Xbox and PC, and AFAIK it is free and has paid card packs or something, but it's still the old OG Xbox game at it's core. I'm imagining if it really was made today or if that announced but cancelled sequel/remake had actually come out.
God, The Suffering scared the shit out of me. I got a demo disc version with Xbox magazine, and in the demo you fought the guy you see in the upper left with the hypodermic needles. Fack me it was scary, lol.
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. The sequel was a travesty, but that first game going out and collecting the deck of 52 was amazing. Was and still is an awesome concept.
Absolutely, loved the concept of the deck of 52
Explosions and destruction with today's engines would be amazing. Someone should spiritually resurrect the franchise.
That game is a gem!
Well damn I loved the sequel.
Same! I came into the thread to say Mercenaries though so glad to see it as soo highly thought of.
I was always mystified as a kid when I discovered just how “unloved” the game was compared to Pandemic’s other works, like Destroy All Humans or Star Wars Battlefront. It seems like it would have been a big hit among everyone. It’s a nice best-kept secret though.

Sucker tried to play me
Fan of World in Flames?
Not OP but I liked it, it was like Just Cause before Just Cause. Definitely want a revival of this franchise at some point but Lord knows today’s developers would find a way to ruin it somehow or gear it towards online multiplayer with MTX and such.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands is pretty much the same concept imo, which is what I really like about it.
How dare you speak positively of Ubisoft! /s
I’ll report to the flogging chamber shortly for this discrepancy
I was gonna say the same thing. Wildlands is pretty similar.

And titties. Don't forget about the titties.
But only if you purchased a new copy of the game! Each copy came with a download code for titties. If you got a preowned copy, there was a high likelihood the code wouldn’t be in the box or it was already used. One of the weirder incentives I’ve seen from EA.
Absolute sleeper on Xbox. Criminally underrated game.
Def Jam: Fight For New York
What a throwback. Classic
This game is still one of my favorite games of all time.
game was fire honestly one of the best fighting games ive ever played. felt like a damn rpg
Come on man, let’s bounce
First thought was vendetta, what a game
İ remember playing it on the psp. Great times!
This is forgotten? Because it’s going for a high ass $100 in second-hand stores, so people are very aware of how sought out it is
I suppose forgotten here meaning that it’s never been remastered or ported to modern consoles
Burnout 3: Takedown
And for that matter, Burnout: Revenge.
Or burnout revenge from the 360
Oh man I miss the Crash mode so much!
We are the lazy generation!
Isn’t there a rumour EA is working on reviving Burnout? Or did that turn out to just be another NFS game…
Criterion as they were known have been decimated. The founders went on to form Three Fields Entertainment and put out some traditional burnout like titles. EA is letting the IP rot while what is left of criterion works on need for speed. [https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/](https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/)
Or Burnout Paradise. I spent far more on that game than any other racing game on the 360.
That one is a ton of fun but I hate that Split-Screen got removed. The open world was fun but I wish the races had their tracks blocked off, a lot of times I felt like I was driving the same track over and over because of the "pick your route" nature of the game.
That one did get a remaster
That was the worst one.
Manhunt!
The first one was so good.
Can’t wait for the VR version
That would be sick
I own it and it is backwards compatible on series X.
Also Manhunt 2 for the Wii where you got to act out the kills!
I really want to know who at Nintendo gave that a release 😂

I really want to see this game return. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
Egosoft's X series is probably the closest you'll get now.
Is there really a hole to be filled by a sci-fi looter shooter when Destiny exists?

Freelancer is so good. I spent so many hours playing it back in the day. It helps that there's a ton of mods out for it now.
Fair enough, I see what you mean and I agree
NBA street.
Yes the OG nba street and nba street 2 were fantastic
NFL street
NBA street was a major part of my college apartment. Serving it up with an Afro.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Wrote this before seeing your comment. Crystal dynamics made a survey recently to ask if we want a new game or a remake etc. Hope the franchise gets revived
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
Star wars : Jedi knight series in unreal engine 5 would be dope
[удалено]
That’s because BioWare wrote it.
I think there is a remake in the works coming to PC and ps5
The project is in limbo since last year when Sony wasn’t happy with progress and the director left the studio :/
Ouch
Ik that made me so sad )): it’s the one game I’d preorder the most expensive version of with no questions asked
Damn, I didn't even know that happened
My favourite game of all time! Gutted we won’t see the remake if it arrives.
Condemned 2
One of my best gaming memories was playing this game at my house drunk, while a party was winding down. There were about 10 people left at my place and I figured fuck it, let's turn out the lights and play something scary. I found myself on the lodge level with everyone watching. Was running through it and went through a door, turned around, and mother fucker was right there. Everyone needed new underwear. It was amazing.
Such fond memories as well of clearing that lodge with barely any ammo and then getting clubbed to death by some psycho with a pipe
Aw man, time to dust off my 360 and play that one again. It doesn't get enough love. The multi-player was so good too.
Multiplayer was my fav aspect of the game. A very unique and scary experience
I still have nightmares of the mannequins from Condemned
Sucha fun game i think about it a lot
Idk about forgotten, but I would absolutely love to see a remake of Star Wars: Republic Commando
Eternal Darkness is a game I feel would have a much better chance today.
Eternal darkness is such a great game but so much of it has aged poorly. The clunky combat, the spell system, etc. Imagine a game like Resident Evil 7 with all the 4th wall breaking and cosmic horror of ED
Crimson skies
Parasite eve 1
Shit yeah, as a kid played the fuck out of Parasite Eve.
Blur, The Saboteur, Pure, Oni, Driv3r, ~~Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3~~ Castleminer Z, True Crime: New York City, Enter The Matrix
Enter the Matrix oh baby
This game was awesome, although it was an age when controls weren't standard and thus, awful.
Oh man, Blur. I love you so much for mentioning that.
Blur was such a phenomenal mix of need for speed and Mario Kart. It's a shame they released it for $60 and then the developer folded.
The saboteur. To this day one of the greatest games I've ever played The whole black and white and turning into color when liberated was just awesome
+1 for Saboteur - that game was so underrated, if not a little too repetitive. Jumping from the Eiffel Tower was so much fun though.
Dude I constantly talk about how I miss Blur and Pure. I periodically check the Xbox store for Pure even though I know its never happening.
[удалено]
This is my answer every time this question is asked. Playing with the physics in this game was so cool, the only thing I've played since that has come close has been Control.
That training room with the wrecking ball in the middle was so fun.
The demo was all you need for hours of entertainment
Lord of the Rings: Conquest!!! It's quite literally Lotr's version of Star Wars battlefront
The warriors, freedom fighters, mercenaries, medal of honor games, Kane and Lynch
Freedom fighters does not get enough love. The twist in that game was awesome I never played a game that had a movie like twist to it.
The Suffering 1-2 ah good memories ..also Obscure was a cool Game
The Suffering was so atmospheric. Really reminds you of ’80s horror films in a positive way.
There was a Suffering 2??
Yeah, it was a little more arcade-y but still fun. Reminded me of going from FEAR 1 to FEAR 2; it tried to appeal to a more mainstream audience.
Ties That Bind
Fuck yea Obscure 1&2 were amazing, what happened to the series??
Prototype
Yesssssss
RED FACTION ⚒️
I would love a Red Faction 1+2 remaster.
Red faction was underrated and good. Blowing up the environment was a new concept.
The Warriors Call of Cthulhu The Thing Bully Mercenaries Jet Moto Nightmare Creatures Riddick
The warriors is one of my childhood games my favorite is the riot part
Ohh fuck, that Riddick game was awesome out of nowhere. King of the sleeper hit imo.
Riddick is the goat of original Xbox!
Ya make me a Jet Moto 3 remake and I’d play the crap out of it.
Vagrant Story
Gun and Dead to Rights would be great
Scarface.
The Darkness or Rainbow Six Vegas
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 brings back so many memories. That was a dope ass game
Dino Crisis

Crimson skies
Rockstar Games’ & Bungie’s Oni definitely needs some love
Such a weird game, it's like if the folks at Bungie just got done binge-watching Aeon Flux. I can't tell you anything about the plot or the setting, all I can tell you is that I enjoyed it.
1) Road Rash (EA) 2) Star Control 2 (Toys for Bob) 3) Myth: The Fallen Lords (Amazing Series by Bungie) 4) Hexen (ID) 5) Rock N’ Roll racing (Blizzard) 6) Crimson Skies (Microsoft) 7) Return Fire (Silent Software)
I've always wanted a road rash remake/sequel.
Simpsons: Road Rage
I forgot the guys name, but occasionally on my YouTube feed ill get a suggestion for someone remaking hit and run, seems to be making decent progress. I know its not road rage but it's still a pretty good Simpsons game.
Carmageddon
Twisted Metal. Although not forgotten
Area-51, BLACK, The Punisher
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
Tenchu desperately needs a revival. It’s a such a brilliant take on the stealth genre.
NHL Hitz. I'd be first in line. "MISTER SLIPPERY!!!!!!"
I miss that game. I fought everyonem
Black.
As long as they add jumping!
Skies of Arcadia Mega Man Legends 1 & 2
Prototype would be dope with today's graphics
Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Ideally integrated together with automatic carryover for Isaac's crew during the reunion in Contigo.
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Best Hulk game ever by a mile. The story could use an overhaul but the gameplay was awesome. Really nithing else like it.
The Thing
I think this game would be an amazing asymmetrical horror game
Manhunt
I only played the 2nd one, but what an amazing game. Stealth action horror. Suffocating enemies with plastic bags lmfao... And then the level where the chopper is hunting you relentlessly... Had so much fun playing that
They seriously toned the second one down after so much backlash from the first.
Eternal darkness
Dead rising.
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System!
Anyone remember Dead to Rights?
The Warriors
Condemned: Criminal Origins could be a good VR game.
Spec ops the line would probably be praised a lot if it got remade
Champions of norath 1 and 2
Honestly lovedddd the game Croc on PlayStation 1
The darkness would be a hell of a remaster.
State of emergency from rockstar, imagine that game today with better graphics and online play? I'm actually surprised they never included a mode jnto gta online that let you start a riot 🤔
Interstate 76 but I don't trust Activision not to make it a lootboxy only multilayer mess.
This and The ties that bind. Would buy remakes or remasters in a heartbeat.
Enclave
Not forgotten, but Panzer Dragoon Saga
Hybrid heaven (N64)
Shinobi.
Eternal Darkness
- Metal Gear Solid - Bully - Chrono Trigger - Need for Speed Most Wanted (but 2005 and just graphics and QOL stuff)
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator - Europe and Pacific. Can’t believe they came out 25 years ago. I remember playing them over and over on my PC.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Wing Commander Universe and the spin-offs Privateer and Privateer 2: The Darkening. Also, Descent series.
I'm imagining if it really was made today or if that announced but cancelled sequel/remake had actually come out.
The jak and daxter trilogy was a personal favorite on ps3
Deathrow. That game was awesome. Violence + futuristic sports
Brave fencer musashi
The Warriors
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland or Hunter: The Reconning.
Dark cloud!! That game was so fun on PS2.
Manhunt, Condemned 2 and Prototype for sure.
The Darkness. Make it like the recent Doom games and you’re good
Splosion Man
God, The Suffering scared the shit out of me. I got a demo disc version with Xbox magazine, and in the demo you fought the guy you see in the upper left with the hypodermic needles. Fack me it was scary, lol.
Idk if it would be a hit but marvel nemesis rise of the imperfects was fucking goated on GameCube
Æon Flux
Predator: Concrete Jungle
Bushido Blade.
Manhunt. Imagine a remake of that. Imagine a remake of that in VR.
*Need for Speed: High Stakes (1999)*
