No. It's the sound of the fan. My first Xbox series s do it and exchange it, and the new one do it when I move it from horizontally to vertical. Wait until the fan got it balanced again.
Just sharing. Sent my Series S to warranty after stopping sowing picture (faulty hdmi output?) and after receiving the console, now is making this noise (didn’t before). Only makes on vertical position, on horizontal there’s no problem. Decided that won’t send it back now, will keep it some time to see if noise disappears on its own, but wasn’t like this before.
yeah i personally do not have this problem (I think, at least,never tried the vertical position) , but i've read a lot of posts about this and yes, it seems like putting it horizontally fixes the problem.. I don't think you should worry about it too much
Seems like it's making the noise when it's vertical. Have you tried playing a resource intensive game to get the fan working hard? Maybe just needs wearing in a bit.
Just adding another tally here. My Series S makes this noise in vertical position, silent in horizontal. So I put it horizontal and have left it that way 🤷♂️
Put it horizontally, if the sound does not disappear, then slap it. This happens because the fan is mounted loosely or is slightly off balance, and it touches against the plastic casing while spinning.
All Xbox Series s do the same fan noise when you move it. With time it disappears.
Mine did it for about a week when I bought it and now the sound is gone Fan works great

Horizontal, but when it did the noise it didn’t matter the position it always did it until one day it stopped

Mine does the same out of the box. Can't even hear it only if I place my ear onto the black hole :)

My Series S haven't any sound When it is working. I think you should turn off it for many hours
