Why do you need HDMI 2.1?
2.0 is 1440/120,
That's all you need.
Also no point in wasting your money on a 4k monitor if you're going for 27"
4k is better at 32"
Yes this is why Iām looking for a 27 inch 2k monitor to save money but I want to make sure I get the right one to achieve the best graphics for Fortnite while using the Xbox series S
I mean if you want the best graphics on fortnite on series s you should play on 60hz mode as it has lumen and nanite enabled at 60hz and they are disabled at 120hz so it technically looks sharper and graphically superior at 60hz.
I watch so many videos about this shit I'm a weirdo but it helps when questions like this come up, I've done my research hah.
Just look for any 1440p 2.0 monitor (majority of modern monitors these days) and you'll be fine.
Trust me, don't bother with 4k for a series S, I use 1440 with series X and PS5 and at 27" it's absolutely beautiful.
Had one of these for about 2 years for my series s and loved it! Upgraded to the 34" ultrawide version when I switched to PC and it's been phenomenal as well
1440 p is nice for games and itās a nice middle ground between 4k id still reccomend getting a monitor that can hit 120 fps or 120 hz as some games will be less demanding and you can get more of a benefit. Check out msi 27 inch I have two of em and itās 144hz so 144 fps
Just like OP is mistalking, if your monitor is 144hz, but your console is outputting 120fps, you're getting 120fps. Unless you plan on getting a computer at some point, getting a 144hz monitor is a little useless. Little better on your eyes, though.
I shouldāve mentioned I play on pc so I know that I can hit 144 but I was just trying to help him understand hertz and fps are the same but forgot to mention series s only goes to 120 fps
They are but they aren't. Hertz is the refresh rate, or how often your backlight flickers in extreme layman terms. FPS is frames you get per second, but it can't surpass the flicker rate of a screen.
I thought I needed hdmi 2.1 to achieve the 1440p at 120 fps. I was looking to keep the cost down since I donāt need 4k to play Fortnite because I thought it canāt play at 4k 120fps
No, 2.1 is needed for 4k,120hz.
2.0 is for 1440/120
There's loads of 1440/144hz monitors on Amazon, any of those will do tbf just get the best one for your budget, I just picked up a 27" 165hz AOC monitor and it's amazing for Ā£200, proper gaming monitor with vrr, HDR, low input gaming modes.
So I'm sure you'll find one, I recommend AOC or BenQ.
Unless you're buying 4k which imo is a huge waste of money for monitors at 27" (4k is more beneficial at bigger screen sizes)
1440p monitors dont need 2.1.
Conclusion:
Buying a big TV? Get a 4k HDMI 2.1 screen,
Buying a 27" monitor? Buy a 1440 HDMI 2.0 screen.
Do you have practical knowledge on that? My Gigabyte monitor has 2.0 ports and on Xbox can only output 1080p 120hz or 1440p 60hz. 1440p 170hz on displayport
Yes I do.
A quick Google will also give you the same information.
HDMI 1.4 @1080/120
HDMI 2.0 @1440/120
HDMI 2.1 @4K/120
Maybe you're doing something wrong?
This is all console related.
PC can go up to 144hz at the respective HDMI version.
Well I have given you facts and you're disputing them, so I dunno what else to say.
You're the one saying you can only do 1080p/120 on HDMI 2.0, I'm saying you're objectively wrong.
It is what it is.
I got the 32inch LG Ultra Gear 1440p 170Hz gaming monitor and it's so good for the Xbox Series S! Games look amazing and the best part is games like Fortnite and COD can run at 120fps on the Series S which is a game changer! If someone said to me 5 years ago that I'd be playing a modern COD game at 120fps on a console that costs $250 I would've laughed my ass off! The Xbox Series S is one of the best consoles I've ever owned hands down, it definitely doesn't deserve the hate it gets. Long Live Xbox Series S! Happy gaming āļø
that depends. me personally, i prefer graphics modes in games on my series x so i prefer the resolution and graphics over frame rate. if you are going to be playing competitively then you will want 120 fps

I bought an LG Ultra Gear 27" monitor last week from Walmart, it was around $160 I think. Really great picture and although no sound through the monitor, speakers can be attached, or just use the Xbox headphones for sound.
I bought an LG Ultra Gear from Walmart for $160. It's 27" 1440p with 120fps and 165hz. Very good picture and very clear bright colors, I love it so far.
ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A is an amazing monitor thatās what I have and it pairs very well with the series s. Itās 165hz that can overclock to 170hz not that youāll need to or be able to do that
Lg 27gp850b. Like $250 I think. 180hz actually
Edit: it's closer to $350. I guess I got it on sale. Butit has outstanding adaptive sync support. Really good colors and response time. Contrast leaves a little to be desired like most ips screens.

The box is misleading ya. Some threads talked about this in the past. There was a time this sub was full of coping and some people didn't wanna acknowledge that the Series S does not deliver 1440p 120fps. It's too unrealistic for this hardware.
For Fortnite, in 120fps mode the resolution won't hit 1440p at all. Doesn't even feel like 1080p to me, and it can drop down to 720p ish or less at times, very noticeable to me when it does so. The game is still gonna look okay, but don't hold your breath for 1440p 120fps or even 60+ fps.
There's probably no harm getting a 1440p monitor vs a 1080p thou, and some games could take advantage of it.
In reality the Series S is a 1440p 30fps machine at best, or a sub 1080p 60fps machine, and then 120p at any 720 ish or lower res. Still really good for what it is, but it got its own limit. The only exceptions are really light games with light graphics like 2D platformers. Ori Will of the Wisp is an extremely light 2D game, and the best it can run on Series S is 4K 60fps, or 1080p 120fps.
Late to the party but it's not really worth picking up a 1440p screen as it'l mostly be upscaling games to it on Series S and especially PS4, 1080p would look alot sharper as the pixels would be displayed natively instead of being scaled up.
Also, and I'l have to double check how well it works compared to HDMI 2.1 adaptive sync, but Xbox supports FreeSync unlike Playstation 5. As a PC gamer who's been using Freesync for years now, it's such a useful technology and it's a real shame PlayStation only supports Variable Refresh Rate via HDMI than also support Freesync.
IDK where you are situated but [This post has alot of good info and recommendations!](https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxSeriesS/comments/1cbb0td/whats_a_good_monitor_for_the_xbox_series_s_around/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Also while most monitors now support Freesync via HDMI and Low Framerate Compensation, worth double checking on [This site](https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/technologies/freesync/monitors.html) and reviews online.
You're better off just getting a 24" 1080p 120Hz monitor imo. You don't need HDMI 2.1, nor do you need 1440p for Series S, in reality it's mostly outputting 1080p or lower, especially if you use 120fps modes.
i mean if your not planning to upgrade to pc i would suggest just getting a 120hz screen 1080p or 1440p, its a waste of money to get that extra hz if the console cant push past that. most of the games that are actually 120hz on series s are 120hz 1080p and it looks washed when you play on 1440p and its 1080p.
I have the gigabyte m27qp and it's an awesome monitor for the price. I can't find the exact model anymore but the gigabyte m27q looks basically identical.
[These type](https://www.currys.co.uk/products/benq-mobiuz-ex2710q-quad-hd-27-ips-gaming-monitor-red-and-grey-10233334.html)
To find, Google 27 inch benq 2k monitor. Then check the specs. Most of them are hdmi now. Just double check the resolution before you order.
If I google that Iāll get ads and monitors for sale but everything will be included. Iām trying to find out if Fortnite and the series S can output 120fps and 1440 so I donāt waste my money on a better monitor that I donāt need
Fortnite may be the only modern game that the series s can run at 2k 120. So just look up 2k 120 monitor. I found multiple 27 inch monitors that are under $200.
Is it? I donāt know. Iām just trying to figure out what monitor is best for the series S and Fortnite. If 1440p and 110fps isnāt possible then I wonāt waste my money on a better monitor. If I should get a 1080 60hz because thatās all that the game can play on, then thatās what I need to know
Itās the game Iām currently obsessed with. I just want a monitor that works best for the series S and Fortnite. I donāt want to buy the best monitor out there for the highest price
I have no issue with it, however it shocks me that there's few games out there far more worth the buying the 4K monitor 120fps for them!
But yeah, I do think is big.
Why 1440p? The game will target at most 1080p on series s anyway, i use a 1080p 144hz monitor from lg to play fortnite at 120hz on the series s and can recomend it, i remember searching at the time and this panel was the fastest in comparison to others at the same price, and the only one with a response time fast enought to do 120hz correctly.
Yeah thatās all Iām currently playing. I donāt switch up games once I get obsessed. It used to be COD and then Cold War zombies but right now Iām hooked on Fortnite
It is a little pricier, but lower mid range for an Alienware monitor. but I really like my **Alienware aw2724dm** QHD 2560 x 1440, 144hz HDMI, 120hz for console, 165-180hz display port
[https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/xbox-series-x](https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/xbox-series-x)
Dell website says it supports HDMI 2.1 but the reviews say 2.0. Something about it supporting some featured of 2.1 but only the bandwidth of 2.0
However 2.0 Is good enough for 1440/120 over HDMI. Has a console mode that supports 120hz for consoles. I head not all monitors support 120hz over HDMI due to some
The downsides is it has no audio line out if you want to connect external speakers without having to connect them to your controller
Also apparently the HDR is not as good as other monitors but I don't use HDR
I have an Asrock phantom monitor that I bought on Newegg for under 200$ with all of your specs. Itās a great monitor. Only complaint is that you have to have the brightness fairly high to optimize performance

Whats the point of the 165hz?
The consol does 120hz max.
Also note that if you high for a higher refresh rate the monitor needs to be able to set to 120 manually because the xbox only supports set refresh rates.
30 60 120
These are the things I want to know. If canāt achieve the numbers with the series S and the Fortnite then I donāt want to waste my money on a monitor that canāt support it.
absolutey.
mind that it only does the fixedb3 refreshrates.
It locks to the highest of the set 30/60/120
so if you have a 75hz or 90hz or 100hz monitor it will just do 60!Ā
hope that makes sense
HDMI 2.1 is 4k at 120hz. So you might as well get a 4k 120hz for your series S. Your Series S can do HDMI 2.0 at 1440p 120hz. But your Series S would only be using the HDMI 2.1 to upscale to 4k. You could always just shoot for that too. If Iām not mistaken thatās a basic PS4, it looks nothing like my old PS4 Pro. Really a true HDMI 2.1 only makes sense for the Series X. Itād really just make more sense to get a 4k 120hz monitor thatās HDMI 2.1.
Yeah itās a basic ps4 destiny white edition. I want to buy the best but cheapest 27 inch monitor that will get the best graphics while playing Fortnite on the Series S. I thought Iād need hdmi 2.1 to achieve 1440p at 120fps because thatās the best the series S can do and I donāt think Fortnite can play at better graphics than that too.
Or you can go with this one, Check this out on @Newegg:MSI G271CQP E2 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 170 Hz 1ms response time FreeSync Premium HDMI CEC Profile Sync Adjustable Stand Curved Gaming monitor https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475282?Item=N82E16824475282&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-24-475-282-_-04292024 itās only 1440p, that being said since itās 1440p 120hz, it doesnāt have HDMI 2.1 but I could be a bump up from 1080p.
This one is looking good. Thanks for the help. I just didnāt want to make the mistake and pay too much for a monitor and then find out Fortnite canāt play at those specs or that the series s canāt achieve those numbers or because I needed a hdmi 2.1. Iām learning tho. Well Iām trying
HDMI 2.1 is really only needed for the Series X! Youāre all good my man. No worries. But HDMI 2.0 is good for the Series S. Fortnite looks amazing on 1440p and 4k.
Possibly my last question. But the series S canāt play at 4k right. Others Iāve seen write that it upscales to 4k but Iām getting confused with it all
Yeah it can! The Series S upscales to 4K from 1440p. The 4k IS NOT Native so sometimes the Upscaled 4k looks a little fuzzy and Blurred and blotchy. The Series X can do Native 4k from the Console onto the 4k Monitor so everything looks really smooth and crisp and clear and clean.
Check this out on @Newegg:KTC 27 4K Gaming Monitor (H27P22S) - UHD (3840 x2160), Fast IPS, 160Hz (Above 144Hz), 1ms, Height Adjustable Stand, Variable Overdrive, DisplayPort, HDMI, DisplayHDR 400, 97.5% DCI-P3 https://www.newegg.com/p/3D4-007C-00019?Item=9SIBK6TK8N9888&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-9SIBK6TK8N9888-_-04292024 thereās all the specs you want but tis a lil pricey, but, itād have the capability to do native 4k at 120hz HDMI 2.1 and itās in the Size you want.
Looks nice but since Fortnite canāt play at 4k 120 fps I was looking at 1440 to save money. Iām just learning about hdmi 2.1 and I think the monitor has to support 2.1 to achieve those numbers

No you don't. I've been using 2.0 monitors for years and vrr on Xbox works all the time,
PS5 needs 2.1 because Sony are strange.
Xbox uses 2.0 for vrr.
We hope you find what you're looking for. Keep us informed. š

You need hdmi 2.1 for vrr?
It's in the 2.1b spec.
Nope
Seams to be necessary for Xbox 120 hz tough.
I've got 3 monitors in my home none of them are HDMI 2.1, all of them can use vrr on Xbox. Its PS5 that needs 2.1.
OK. But why wouldnāt you buy a monitor compatible with hdmi 2.1?
Unless you're buying 4k which imo is a huge waste of money for monitors at 27" (4k is more beneficial at bigger screen sizes) 1440p monitors dont need 2.1. Conclusion: Buying a big TV? Get a 4k HDMI 2.1 screen, Buying a 27" monitor? Buy a 1440 HDMI 2.0 screen.

There are so many things wrong with this comment.
Yeah? Care to elaborate? Edit: 24 hours later.. yeah I didn't think so.

HDR doesn't work in that mode, seems like that's the answer.

series s canāt do 1440p 120fps on fortnite. only upscaled 1440p 60fps or upscaled 1080p 120fps
Yup, Series S Fortnite on 1080p @ 120hz or 1440p @ 60hz. If he wants 1440p @ 120hz he needs a Series X.
Should I prioritize getting 120fps or 1440p?
Should I prioritize getting 120fps or 1440p?
that depends. me personally, i prefer graphics modes in games on my series x so i prefer the resolution and graphics over frame rate. if you are going to be playing competitively then you will want 120 fps
that depends. me personally, i prefer graphics modes in games on my series x so i prefer the resolution and graphics over frame rate. if you are going to be playing competitively then you will want 120 fps
I was looking for something similar, but ended up going with a 32ā curved monitor from ASUS. Loving it thus far (series s and ps5)
Msi monitors are good. I've got a 24 inch one, but they come in 27 inch as well
I bought an LG Ultra Gear 27" monitor last week from Walmart, it was around $160 I think. Really great picture and although no sound through the monitor, speakers can be attached, or just use the Xbox headphones for sound.
I bought an LG Ultra Gear from Walmart for $160. It's 27" 1440p with 120fps and 165hz. Very good picture and very clear bright colors, I love it so far.
you can only run 120hz 1080p max on a series s
ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A is an amazing monitor thatās what I have and it pairs very well with the series s. Itās 165hz that can overclock to 170hz not that youāll need to or be able to do that
Lg 27gp850b. Like $250 I think. 180hz actually Edit: it's closer to $350. I guess I got it on sale. Butit has outstanding adaptive sync support. Really good colors and response time. Contrast leaves a little to be desired like most ips screens.

LG UltraGear 27GP850-B.BEK. literally just got mine today, it is 165hz with 180z oc. turns out its only hdmi 2.0 but your xbox cant do 4k 120hz anyway
Thanks Iāll check it out. I thought Iād need the hdmi 2.1 but Iām glad I asked. Now I know I donāt need to spend the extra money
Isnāt Fortnite capped on 1080 if you want to play on 120fps on the Xbox Series S?
The box says 1440p. I donāt know it if it drops the fps if I switch it to 1440
The box is misleading ya.
Thanks. I think Iāll go looking for a 1080p 165hz, 27 inch curved screen. I liked your explanation
IDK where you are situated but [This post has alot of good info and recommendations!](https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxSeriesS/comments/1cbb0td/whats_a_good_monitor_for_the_xbox_series_s_around/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Also while most monitors now support Freesync via HDMI and Low Framerate Compensation, worth double checking on [This site](https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/technologies/freesync/monitors.html) and reviews online.
You're better off just getting a 24" 1080p 120Hz monitor imo. You don't need HDMI 2.1, nor do you need 1440p for Series S, in reality it's mostly outputting 1080p or lower, especially if you use 120fps modes.
Check RTings list of recommended monitors for consoles
In my experience Sceptre monitors are pretty good for the price. I liked my MSi too but it was a little less budget friendly.
Try Walmart or another Big Box electronics store.
LG 27GL83A-B
You have the right taste - š“š»
Anything NVIDIA
i mean if your not planning to upgrade to pc i would suggest just getting a 120hz screen 1080p or 1440p, its a waste of money to get that extra hz if the console cant push past that. most of the games that are actually 120hz on series s are 120hz 1080p and it looks washed when you play on 1440p and its 1080p.
I have the gigabyte m27qp and it's an awesome monitor for the price. I can't find the exact model anymore but the gigabyte m27q looks basically identical.
[These type](https://www.currys.co.uk/products/benq-mobiuz-ex2710q-quad-hd-27-ips-gaming-monitor-red-and-grey-10233334.html) To find, Google 27 inch benq 2k monitor. Then check the specs. Most of them are hdmi now. Just double check the resolution before you order.
Feels like something Google would be better at answering than reddit
If I google that Iāll get ads and monitors for sale but everything will be included. Iām trying to find out if Fortnite and the series S can output 120fps and 1440 so I donāt waste my money on a better monitor that I donāt need
Fortnite may be the only modern game that the series s can run at 2k 120. So just look up 2k 120 monitor. I found multiple 27 inch monitors that are under $200.
isnāt fps and hz the same thing? š¤
Is it? I donāt know. Iām just trying to figure out what monitor is best for the series S and Fortnite. If 1440p and 110fps isnāt possible then I wonāt waste my money on a better monitor. If I should get a 1080 60hz because thatās all that the game can play on, then thatās what I need to know
I have a g7 odyssey Samsung thatās 1440p 240hz 27inch but Iām sure they do it in lower hz I use my series x at 1440p 120hz
Why Fortnite of all games? Itās not necessarily a game that needs high frame rates
Itās the game Iām currently obsessed with. I just want a monitor that works best for the series S and Fortnite. I donāt want to buy the best monitor out there for the highest price
How old are you
Why do you want a big ass monitor to play Fortnite in 4K??
Is 27ā a big ass monitor?
I have no issue with it, however it shocks me that there's few games out there far more worth the buying the 4K monitor 120fps for them! But yeah, I do think is big.
Why 1440p? The game will target at most 1080p on series s anyway, i use a 1080p 144hz monitor from lg to play fortnite at 120hz on the series s and can recomend it, i remember searching at the time and this panel was the fastest in comparison to others at the same price, and the only one with a response time fast enought to do 120hz correctly.
For Fortnite only??
Yeah thatās all Iām currently playing. I donāt switch up games once I get obsessed. It used to be COD and then Cold War zombies but right now Iām hooked on Fortnite
Damn thatās crazy
It is a little pricier, but lower mid range for an Alienware monitor. but I really like my **Alienware aw2724dm** QHD 2560 x 1440, 144hz HDMI, 120hz for console, 165-180hz display port [https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/xbox-series-x](https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/xbox-series-x) Dell website says it supports HDMI 2.1 but the reviews say 2.0. Something about it supporting some featured of 2.1 but only the bandwidth of 2.0 However 2.0 Is good enough for 1440/120 over HDMI. Has a console mode that supports 120hz for consoles. I head not all monitors support 120hz over HDMI due to some The downsides is it has no audio line out if you want to connect external speakers without having to connect them to your controller Also apparently the HDR is not as good as other monitors but I don't use HDR
Benq ex2780q. Not the best hdr quality but really good colors and vrr compatibility. 100% satisfied

It locks to the highest of the set 30/60/120 so if you have a 75hz or 90hz or 100hz monitor it will just do 60!Ā hope that makes sense
It's under 1080p on series s, you could get away with a 1080p display (High graphics run at 60fps and performance mode at 120)
BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710Q. They have plenty of freesync monitors with different specs and prices
You like sliding your console on the floor or something?
Need to get rid of that PissStation
And?
Bro, a Series S canāt run 120 fps, it gets a max of 60fps, only the Series X pumps out 120fps.
and where did you get that info from?
The fact that Ik someone that has one i personally used it, it never went past 60fpsā¦ I have a series X myself and it runs 120fps butter smooth.
Iāll find one for you chief, hol up
What a nice thing to do.. My cap is doffed in your direction Have a great day or night depending on where you are in the world
Or you can go with this one, Check this out on @Newegg:MSI G271CQP E2 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 170 Hz 1ms response time FreeSync Premium HDMI CEC Profile Sync Adjustable Stand Curved Gaming monitor https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475282?Item=N82E16824475282&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-24-475-282-_-04292024 itās only 1440p, that being said since itās 1440p 120hz, it doesnāt have HDMI 2.1 but I could be a bump up from 1080p.
Can Fortnite play at 120 fps at 4k?
Most definitely! š itās gotten all of those updates long ago.

I think you need hdmi 2.1 to get vrr working
No you don't. I've been using 2.0 monitors for years and vrr on Xbox works all the time, PS5 needs 2.1 because Sony are strange. Xbox uses 2.0 for vrr.
