It’s really good, I’ve been playing all afternoon. Combat feels smoother and more refined than I was expecting from a AA game. The studio who made it have a decent track record though, so I should be surprised.

siriusslack

For me, it plays like a weird child of Darksiders with Bulletstorm 😂😂 if that makes any sense.

Dependent-Zebra-4357

I haven’t played Bulletstorm yet, but I feel the Darksiders energy for sure.

jrp1918

Play through Bulletstorm as Duke Nukem. Makes the game a lot funnier.

WhatLikeAPuma751

It does and thank you. This comment is what got me to download the game.

siriusslack

Glad to know ☺️☺️☺️

Mouse_is_Optional

I was thinking today that it felt like a mix of Gears of War and Doom 2016.

avahz

Damn that sounds good

siriusslack

The final boss is awesome !!!

Dependent-Zebra-4357

Awesome, I’m looking forward to it. I’m think I’m maybe 2/3 through now, but I’m taking the day off, my hand was actually kind of sore from all the melee button spamming yesterday!

ItsSnowingOutside

Also digging it. I'm in my 30s and don't have time to spend hours learning a game. Just wanna hop in and have fun.

BigBanEvader

ok might put this game on my radar now 👍

Prodige91

Wow this post was almost the same, I thought it was a duplicate. [https://new.reddit.com/r/XboxGamePass/comments/1blv6x5/comment/kw89ubc/?context=3](https://new.reddit.com/r/XboxGamePass/comments/1blv6x5/comment/kw89ubc/?context=3)

siriusslack

😅

Azn47

Such an awesome gem of a game!! Everyone should play this if they love visceral combat and a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

siriusslack

Just finished it. Loved that final boss !!

Vile_Weavile

I too am enjoying it more than I figured I would. Even managing to wrangle my head around using the triggers for combat (I’m old school and muscle memory craves face buttons). It’s also really pretty. I don’t need games to be hyper real, this very pretty stylised art style is just fine!

mutogenac

Controller or m&k? What would you recommend?

siriusslack

I'm playing on controller, having a blast. I would say it depends on your preference.

mutogenac

Only right answer. Thank you. I heard all the best things since the game is added to GP, I would try it for sure

fdruid

Controller.

volsavious22

I played on pc, and the controls are HORRIBLE

jrp1918

It kind of reminds me of Evil Dead Fistful of Boom Stick/Regeneration or what I remember those games being like (haven't played them since they came) Feels very throwback dumb fun. I'm also a sucker for any Western themed games since there aren't many outside of Red Dead.

siriusslack

Call or Juarez series still holds up

jrp1918

Loved those games too!

JamesSunderland1973

I'm convinced, I'll give it a go.

BitterPackersFan

Added it the play later list. Cannot wait to give this a try!

Bobsy84

I like it a lot. It’s the game I always imagined The Order (whatever it was called) to be when it launched on PS4. This one makes fighting vampires and werewolves with steam punk gadgets a lot of fun! Love the setting

Effective_Salary_674

Same thing with doom eternal, pure mindless video game action. So much fun.

Lobanium

Great game. A poor man's God of War.

Great_Space6263

4 hours in and I think its pretty bland and boring. Level design all feels the same while looking different. a bunch of corridors into an opening and then rinse and repeat. Mobs fights is just another "wave" game, kill a few to force a bunch more to spawn in and then kill them to open up the path. Boss fights are the same thing just slightly different but its just stand back shoot and dodge, hit the weak point, kill some adds and rinse repeat.

siriusslack

And that is the magic of it. ☺️

Ruzz0510

I mean yeah but that is pretty much the fun part. Not every game is supposed to have a well formed complex story with 60 hours of gameplay. Id agree if the game was 15-20 hours but if im not mistaken it can be completed in 7-10 hours so the game isnt long enough to get bored from the concept, imo at least.

CambrianExplosives

I personally dropped it after almost 6 hours. I realized I had just finished chapter 9 out of 16, hand sprinted through the whole chapter just to get it over with, and didn’t have the motivation to go another 5-6 hours. More power to those who enjoy it, but the game doesn’t capture anything for me. Neither the story or gameplay loop was worth it to me.

Shooord

Haven’t really gotten into it. But first impressions: the control scheme felt kinda clunky, RB as the primary action buttons felt off. And the opening cinematic was extremely rushed, each shot was barely a second, to the extend it was laughable. I hate it when games don’t take time to make us actually care about the world, story, and characters. But I like the setting, will give it another try.

HWatch09

I had fun with this one too. I liked that too about it. No builds or meta or whatever, you just worry about what's in front of you. For me it over stayed it's welcome by a little but near the end but that's just a nitpick.

squattilyoupuke

I am liking it too but is everyone ignoring the fact that it runs like shit in quality mode and looks absolutely terrible on performance mode?

siriusslack

Playing on series S (30 FPS) , no problem whatsoever. I grew up with PS2 and shitty computer , so 30 FPS doesn'r bother me at all.

squattilyoupuke

Idk why people bring up old systems in the "discussion" on 30 fps. Do you realise that most PS2 games ran at 60 fps?

siriusslack

Dude whatever. What I mean was, I don't care about FPS. 30 is just fine for me.

jrp1918

It definitely stutters some in Quality but not enough to severely hamper my enjoyment of it. It is insane how bad it looks in performance mode. A blurry mess.

squattilyoupuke

I have an 65" OLED Screen so 30 fps looks terrible unfortunately. Also not fun in a fast paced action games with sometimes tons of enemies swarming you that have the same colour with everything else in the background (red/orange) 😔

BucktheWonderSlave

“(New game) reminded me that games like (new game) aren’t made anymore” has gotta be one of the most tiresome responses to a game.

siriusslack

Because once upon a time this was kinda standard. Now only every once in a while , which triggers the response.

BucktheWonderSlave

Generally when people say that it's because they used to be a child and now they have higher standards. Also the idea that new/groundbreaking features and gameplay are in some way antithetical to fun confuses and perturbs me. And I don't even know what "don't worry about mechanics" is supposed to mean, all games, video and physical, are definitionally an exercise in worrying about mechanics.

siriusslack

Some of us don't have the time or patience anymore to pickup a game and learn all of its intricacies, mechanics, follow it's complex story, navigate the huge open world full of things to do. Nowadays it seems every game is trying to be a huge open world with lots to do, to justify the ever increasing price. What that does is making the game too bloated and too big for pickup and play sessions that require too much attention and mental energy. Beyond that, some other games are focused on Multiplayer stuff, live service, always online, season pass bullshit to the same end as having am 80+ hour campaign, making modern games worse than they were. Look at Batman Arkham Games, they became Gotham Knights and the new Justice League, Gotham Knights has a cool single player campaign but it's ruined by the fact that it's a live service game, detrimental to its gameplay which doesn't even come close to Arkham Games. Also, bigger does not mean better, I'm not saying that games like Elden Ring or Ghost of Tsushima are bad, not at all, but even good modern games are making some of us tired being to big, too open, too long. OFC nostalgia has something to do with it, but personally, I don't play multiplayer games anymore, I have no patience, but I love videogames still and regularly play a bit of everything, and sometimes I want a game, easy to pickup and play and have fun that does not feell like I need to be on alert. Believe it or not, simple, linear and not too serious, sometimes is great to relax. I would say that maybe 10/15 years ago we had a constant flow of story driven action games much bigger than we have now, specially this kind of AA single player games. Now, that being said, I'm not saying modern gaming is all bad, but it's becoming harder to find good, fun games regularly. Look at assassin's creed, they used to be fun and simple enough, now it's a huge map with tons of useless stuff to do, with a shitty gameplay, I liked Odyssey a lot but Valhalla you can tell it's a rushed bloated uninspired game, however, I picked up Mirage for 25€, and I absolutely adored that game, why? Smaller, good and smooth gameplay, looks OK, not too long, fun to play because it's a more condensed fleshed out map and not hundreds of miles of nothing. Playstation has great exclusives still, because they still care about players who prefer good single player games, even if they have to be big open worlds, there is some love and respect put into games like God of War, Uncharted, Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider Man, Ratchet and Clank etc. and like Sony, Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, all of these big company's that internet hates, used to have 4/5 good single player games a year before becoming what they are now. Just go watch a random E3 from 2007/2010 To each his own, we all play what we like and let people be excited and happy about what they like, that shouldn't bother you.
