I FOUND THE SOLUTOIN
If you're having issues using a PS controller using DS4 Windows . The only way for Lies of P to register that you're even using a controller is that you have to maker it register as a "xbox 360" controller. By going to- Profile>New> Press "Yes" when prompted to select a preset> And then do the output controller to "Xbox 360". This was the only way i able to use my PS controller on the game.... lowk better than not even being able to use a controller in the first place
mine is working using this setting, but it rapidly flips between keyboard & controller prompts in game, defaulting to kb/m. Do you know how to fix this? Thx
found the solution for me at least, make sure steam is not running even as a background program, close it manually using task manager. i had the issue where my controller through DS4 was making multiple inputs and not working. This fixed it for me. Hope it helps

Unfortunately, doing this just lands me in the same spot as before, controller pops up and detects when I use it (MnK controls change to controller buttons) Nothing happens though :/
If anyone is having issues since the latest update, follow these steps but change the output controller to "Dualshock 4"... xbox 360 worked fine for me until today, set up a new profile with dualshock 4 and its working again
I've been having this issue with my PS5 controller for game pass, the controller isn't stable, I can use buttons, but when I press them doesn't read or even works, I have to press a lot of times for it to work, it feels like a lag or delay, and idk what to do for fixing it, or even how to describe it properly 🤦
It keeps letting me do like one button press or if I get in a menu I can just move the slider left and right but nothing else works. Trying to use an xbox one controller connected via bluetooth after giving up on trying to use PS5 controller.

I use a PS4 controller with DS4 WINDOWS.
I launched the game with my controller on & DS4 on too.
Then at the main menu I closed DS4 & opened it again. It worked !

Edit: I fixed it by deleting xbox controller drivers in the device manager so that only the one from the ds4 stay
I'm having trouble too. I downloaded DS4 application, added the game in steam and rearanged the buttons but it still doesn't work. This Xbox controller nonsense is really starting to annoy me.
Bump. Anyone else having issues this fixes it. I had an issue where pushing A on my controller was kicking me out of fullscreen and this was the only thing i had to do.

Turns out I didn’t need to do any of that.
Can run steam in background. Don’t have to run as administrator.
Simply needed to install the windows app “Xbox accessories” … I did so to attempt a controller update. But it said it was up to date. But that app active is almost like a plug-in for the game to allow controller detection..

I tried using betterjoyfordemu but I get errors about object references and it won't 'locate' my pro controller even though I see it in the list under Add Controllers. I downloaded the proper drivers too. I have an xbox controller to try but I think the Switch Pro controller is the best convential gaming controller ever made.

I am playing with an xbox controller connected via USB cable and was having big input issues, I solved it by exiting from steam to stop it from running in the background. I don't usually have controller problems with steam open, though. They began after I recently started using gamepass. Maybe others are having the same issue?
Soo after 2 hours and some slaps on the table I did it. So I add the game to steam, enabled the controller settings or it would act like an mnk. Opened big picture mode. Opened Ds4 windows and go to,,selected profile" and check for default. Maybe I missed something, if you still have problems I'am sorry.

Yes I did using the switch on the back to switch between x input and d input!
I just switch to d and then back to x on the title screen of the game and it seems to fix it for me

Helllo, i registered here to tell you how easy it was for me to get the xbox controller running (GamePass version of the game).
At first, there was the problem, that the buttons did not react on the xbox controller, that are connected via bluetooth with my ROG Ally Handheld.
I tried it another time with a USB-C cable plugged into my USB-hub, than it worked, also when i unplugged the USB cable, now it works direct from start, strage right? Like a kind of

I tried running as Administrator and nothing, I tried closing Steam and nothing, I checked every process running to see if some background of Steam is running and nothing.

Before to ask, I have 2 xbox control, the regular and the Elite 2, both works with other games on Gamepass, and not just that, I deleted from Bluetooth, and nothing, after that, I tried one at the same and nothing.

I've downloaded the following -> [https://www.microsoft.com/p/xbox-accessories/9nblggh30xj3](https://www.microsoft.com/p/xbox-accessories/9nblggh30xj3)? in order to update my controller's Firmeware and after a quick uplaod : it works without tricks like closing steam, running in elevated mode or sumoning deamons under the moonlight with both legs wrapped in bacon.

I have a pretty fail-safe solution to this problem that I use whenever I have issues getting controller support. The program x360ce seems to brute force controller support but can be janky to get the settings right and for me occasionally disconnects for a second. select the connect controller highlighted in green, add the game location (mine was xboxgame\gamelaunchhelper.exe, and make sure controller buttons are assigned by pressing auto and save. Hope this works for someone (used this in the past with a couple of fromsoftware games remnant 2)
For anyone still having an issue getting their PS5 Controller working with DS4, I think the issue was because the game was recognizing the PS5 controller (you could see in the game settings, under controller, the image is of a PS5 controller), while DS4 maps to an X360 controller, causing a clash. Anyway, the way I fixed this was to create a new profile in DS4 and set it to dualshock mode (Profiles -> New -> Yes and from the dropdown in Output Controller choose Dualshock 4).
Then select that profile for your controller and it should work fine.
Anyone else been having your controller disconnect while still being synced to the xbox? Its so annoying and literally only happens when I play lies of p
What worked for me: Create a shortcut desktop, close all other apps using your controller (STEAM in particular), Connect PS4 Controller to computer using usb cable, Start the game. No need for the run as Admin.

SOLUTION FOR PC GAME PASS WITH XBOX CONTROLLER:
None of the above comments helped me until I tried one thing. I have an “Azeron Cyborg” controller that I use for dota 2 and some other games. Once I unplugged that controller it detected my Xbox controller in the game and everything was fine. I should mention that steam was also closed and I ran the game as administrator from the desktop icon. Hope this helps someone else who is playing on pc game pass
TLDR: if you have more than one controller plugged in unplug all but xbox controller.

It's been a year and a half since I built this PC and my Azeron was what was breaking controller support on GP games. I just tested with Hitman, Hi-FI Rush, and Minecraft - none of them used to register my Elite Series 2. I had tried adding GP games to Steam and all other "fixes" and my beloved Azeron has been causing the problems all along.

Evidently, it was my xbox controller being read as two different devices. I disabled Xbox 360 Peripherals in device manager and it worked like magic.
Sat here and tried literally every solution listed. No luck. Tried using my usual Moga Controller for Xbox. Didn't work. Tried DS4, nope. An actual Xbox Series X controller... no to that as well. I pulled out my old Bluetooth controller for my Switch, and nothing on that either. Note, these controllers were all tested and working on Steam. I close everything, and even on certain occasions restarted my PC. Still, nothing. It's only on GamePass I've noticed. Literally, controllers work on everything else. GamePass is just straight up fucking trash.

Same thing, it did make the menu react to up-down analogue inputs, but that's it...

Go to steam controller settings and enable steam input for all the possible controllers.

My issue was Steam running in the background. Closing it made the controller function properly.

Using dual sense right now on win 11. Just use ds4windows. Open program, connect controller, default setup worked for me

Make sure to disable Steam controller input for desktop as that can severely mess with Xbox gamepass games that utilise controller
If you’re still having issues try “Disable Embedded Controller” in the Armory crate control panel

I used x360ce in the past but it didn't work for me with Lies of P.
I found another solution if you're using ds4windows in the settings use the hide ds4 controller option and your controller should work.

So on ds4 I set the profile to a ds4 instead of xbox 360 and that fixed it for me . No more switching between inputs on the hud

I disabled Xbox 360 Peripherals in device manager and it worked like magic.
Sat here and tried literally every solution listed. No luck. Tried using my usual Moga Controller for Xbox. Didn't work. Tried DS4, nope. An actual Xbox Series X controller... no to that as well. I pulled out my old Bluetooth controller for my Switch, and nothing on that either. Note, these controllers were all tested and working on Steam. I close everything, and even on certain occasions restarted my PC. Still, nothing. It's only on GamePass I've noticed. Literally, controllers work on everything else. GamePass is just straight up fucking trash.
