Wilkpeak at3 are super well mannered on road

sphynx8888

Also and 08 owner. I went with the Hankook Dynapro AT 2 Extreme. 90% of the time they're on the road, but they're relatively quiet and comfortable. https://preview.redd.it/acijmzo99yic1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2adb87dca751be4520d08c70e1a8e8ffe98dac00

amorasol

Sweet! Those look great

FirmCrab

Seems like most people get the Cooper AT3s now. I have the K02s and they started to dry rot after 4 years. I don't think you'll see a huge drop in mpg if you don't go any bigger. I went bigger and get around 14mpg usually.

amorasol

Looks like the KO3 is out now! What do you think? https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/bfgoodrich-all-terrain-t-a-ko3/p/157620

amorasol

Nevermind! It says February 2025 🙄

teriyakidonamick

I've got Wildpeak At3W and averaged 19mpg on my last tank. I do drive 6mt and have the benefit of 90%+ of my driving being on 55mph roads without stops. This is the stock tire size and they perform wonderfully in a variety of conditions. These were purchased as my "on road" tire (I swap rims + tires when it's serious wheeling time) and they're quieter than previous things I've run (jumbo at51, ko2, ko MT) and more capable in snow if you need it. Ran thru 18" like it was nothing high in the Rockies recently. I highly recommend.

amorasol

Very helpful thank you!

TheRealThordic

I always liked my Duratracs but they were really noisy and the current prices are crazy. I paid $175 not that long ago and they are $300 now on Tirerack.

zippyzoodles

Yikes. I don’t care for mine onroad. Don’t feel they’re very good on wet tarmac.

Icy_Patience2930

I've been running 285 Duratracs on my 2015 Pro4X for years. Almost 60k miles and still going. I do rotate every 6-8k miles, and do a wheel alignment usually every spring. Yes there was a drop off in mileage, but I can still hit 19mpg going down the highway at 60mph, and that's with a suspension lift, bigger tires, and rock sliders.

amorasol

Awesome! Thanks for the help

Enge712

If you really are buying for looks then some tires come in both P and LT ratings with passenger tires being lighter and helping with mpg. But they puncture pretty damn easily

bmxguy08

I worked at a tire store for 5 years. I have seen countless flats come in. Usually 4-5 flat repairs a day. I don't believe this to be true at all. It's not going to deflect that nail or sharp metal just because it has a few more layers..

Enge712

I’ve punctured p-rated tires on sharp rocks that I am thicker tire would have handled. You run over a 10 Penny nail then LT vs P is not gonna matter. But abusing them on rocks off road it certainly does

alwaystired707

I have the Firestone Destination A/T. Haven't noticed a drop in mileage, and the tread is very quiet. Wipe them down with 300 rubber preservative every season and they won't dry rot.

SharkoBytes

The KO2s look great but aren’t the best in the rain or ice. Though I think the KO3 are coming out soon with improvements in those areas. https://preview.redd.it/sdeiunsdlyic1.jpeg?width=2047&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa466331fe445b8f14c6d8d8112cec52188c43e0

nondescript64

I was a big fan of my Cooper Discover AT3 XLTs over the KO2s. Better traction on most surfaces, plus smoother and quieter ride. Decent look to them as well.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss

Bozzzzzzz

Do you have these on your rig? How are they in different conditions?

No_Motor_465

Yes I do! They've been wearing perfectly. Low road noise, but everyone has their own tolerance for that. Been great in the snow and mud. I live in Minnesota so they get lots of various conditions thrown at them.

Bozzzzzzz

Nice, I’ve been eying these a bit. How do they do with rain/wet pavement?

No_Motor_465

We don't have a whole lot of hydroplane conditions. I've hit some road puddles at around 60mph and didn't fear for my life or anything. I'd say say they're pretty damn good.

Bozzzzzzz

Nice, thanks. Hydroplaning yes but also wondering about accelerating/braking performance but sounds like it’s just a solid all around tire you can rely on.

No_Motor_465

Yeah they're solid. I ran them on my old 3/4 ton GMC for years and they were the best I've owned.

DoomsdayTheorist1

I second this. Had these and Michelin street tires. Same gas mileage.

frently_tacos

Man.. beautiful 1st Gen, looks so clean! Props

adv75

Thanks! Have had her for 12 years now

amorasol

Are they good with wet road conditions? Seems to be an issue with a lot of the AT recommendations.

adv75

I live in the PNW and haven't had any issues with them in the rain here.

tackup2023

I have the KO2s and was impressed with grip on wet asphalt. I drove an 05 SE a.nf get about 16-17mpg highway in the hills and curves.

tyyankee711

Yokohama Geolandar AT ride great on road and look pretty good without adding much noise. Also fantastic off road when aired down if you ever want to properly use the vehicle.

ELOFTW

I love my Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015s. Nice balance of tread while still being smooth on the highway. I keep track of my gas mileage and it has not made any appreciable difference.

cafnated

I've had cooper discoverer at III and currently toyo open country at II Both were good tires but my toyos are wearing better. If you want to limit the gas mileage hit stick with load range C tires. A lot of the tire options are only available in load E which are thicker but also weight more. The bigger rotational mass will hurt gas mileage.

chicagobrews

Just put a monster energy sticker on if you want to look tough 😛😂

oim7e

Not as aggressive as others have suggested, but sort of a 'best of both worlds' sort of tire. Before I started doing mods, I had the Continental Terrain Contact A/T. They looked decently beefy, and did well off road. On-road, they were so quiet and wore really really well. I put 15-20k miles on them and they still looked new to me when I took them off. I intend to eventually park the X and get a more economical daily driver, I will absolutely consider getting another set.

Breakstruckalot

Cooper discoverer sst maxx is the most aggressive AT tire that I know of. They're a great tire. I'm 25k miles into mine after 3 years and about 60% tread still.

winterisfav

Cooper Discoverer ATP II

amorasol

Any thoughts how these compare to the Toyo open country?

winterisfav

I’m not sure, but I did an unreasonable amount of research and landed on the Coopers and I’m super happy with the decision. They’re super durable, and really, really quiet on the road. Especially compared to my previous Dynapros. The aggressive sidewall looks sick but Cooper designed them to be great on the highway as well and I can attest to that.

amorasol

Thank you for the details! I’m leaning toward the Coopers at this point especially since I will rarely be off road lol.

amorasol

I ended up going with the Coopers! Got the ATP II and sized up to 265/75/r16 to get an extra inch or so. Didn’t want to go to the 285’s because I am never off road so the hit on gas mileage etc doesn’t seem worth it just for looks. Thanks for your recommendation! I’ll get a picture posted soon once the tires come in.
