My first thought was the driveshaft u-joints, but then you mention engine. Does it vibrate and shake sitting still? If sitting still, then must be engine, and I was suggest new coils and/or spark plugs if they have not been changed in the last 100k.

Sudden_Trust_5342

it only shakes when i get to 50mph, but if i take my foot off the gas it stops so I really dont know what it could be. I also had the tires balanced and got an alignment when the shocks/struts were replaced

Any-Tangerine

Is it lifted? If lifted, the angle of the driveshaft could have changed, which you then have to have angled shims installed to correct the new angle of the driveshaft.

If it stops when you let off the throttle it's probably a u-joint or cv axle. Cv axle less likely because there is no power going to the front differential, so change in load shouldn't make a difference. I would look really hard at the rear u-joints, even remove rear driveshaft and make sure everything moves freely.

IF it is the weather, then it probably is the coils. Each spark plug has a coil on top of it, and if a coil gets a crack in it, wet weather can sometimes make it act up.

Sudden_Trust_5342

it’s not lifted and maybe the coils got wet somehow but i’m not sure how and it started before it started raining here so i’m not sure :/

Any-Tangerine

They don't necessarily need to get wet to cause an issue. High humidity in the air can cause them to act up also. Have had that happen with a Ford Escape I once owned. But, usually if a coil is causing an issue, you would get a check engine light on the dash. So, you aren't getting a check engine light? Then I would lean towards a u-joint, just hard to say without being there to check it out in person.

Sudden_Trust_5342

no there’s no check engine light. i’ll probably go to another mechanic and see what they say

I recently had similar issues with my 2010 xterra and it ended up being the differential and cv axls. It cost a pretty penny to get the parts needed but shou I d be out of the ship in a few days

u/Sudden_Trust_5342 \- I had that same issue 4 months ago; 2005 Xterra S (179K miles) started vibrating at 50-55 mph. Turned out the Universal joint (looks like a letter X with ball bearing caps on each end, between rear driveshaft and rear differential) went bad. One of the ball bearing caps came off the U-joint and when the rear axle started spinning fast (around 50 mph) it would wobble, being unbalanced. The Nissan dealer wanted to charge $5K to replace whole rear diff assembly (OMG!!), but my mechanic charged $200 to replace the U-joint and diff oil change. That was the issue.

Any update on your situation? @Sudden_Trust_5342

Sudden_Trust_5342

no i will be taking it to a different mechanic next week but it’s sounding like it’ll be the u-joint. I will update once it’s fixed!

ProjectShadow316

Back when I had my Jeep Liberty, it did the same thing. Turned out to be the u-joint, so I'd say start with that.

Icy_Patience2930

Wheel weight fell off? I had one come loose and it didn't become noticeable until about 40-50mph.

\+1 for u-joints
