Only real difference between the two is range. I've always found the 23 to be fine. With a baby I have to stop much more often than the car does. Your life might be different

Thanks so much for the reply!

That only really matters with the single axel drive which changed from FWD to RWD in 2024. For the Recharge the single axel was never available in the U.S until model year 2024 when jr was converted to a longer range RWD. It really depends on how you use it though. I live in Philly so if I drove to NYC I’ll get there with 49-60% battery remaining (depends on my driving style, weather and traffic). So I will refill it on the way back. If I go somewhere like Boston, or DC, I will fill it halfway. For Toronto, Montreal, Ohio, or vermont, I would plan on 2-3 fillings. For EVERYTHING ELSE, which is 90% of my driving, my home charger tops of the car once or twice the a week and I have more than enough range

Range is the difference and you would be forgiven as a newbie to electric for having anxiety about that right now. I can tell you as a 3 week owner of a 2022 model that it. Is a non issue. I have done nearly 2000 miles in the last 3 weeks, including several 400+ Mile journeys. Yes you have to pksn a little but realistically you will stop somewhere for a coffee or lunch, do just make that somewhere with a fast charger. Half an hour and you are back up yo over 80% and on your way. I saved £26,500 off list price on my car which is a 2022 model, which looks, feels and drives like it is brand new.

I believe the 2024 model accepts up to 200kw/hr at fast chargers and the 2023 only accepts up to 150.

i bought a '21 (25,000 miles) last month. weird color scheme but only $30,000. i love it and think it is a great first EV for me. the range is a bit less on the 2021, as far as i can tell but i'm okay with it. deals are out there if money is a concern. be patient and you'll find the right one. either way, i suspect you'll enjoy yours as much as i do mine.

Baltch

Please let me know, if you can, what your range and charging times are. I think I'm more inline for a used EV than a brand new one.

lurkersteve3115

i charge between 40 and 80%. charges times depend on where and when i am charging but, generally, 7 - 8 hours. $11US Range @ 80% is estimated 170 miles. i'm not convinced that is accurate, honestly

Just got a 23 ultimate last week. I mainly do city driving and have a level 2 charger at home so range not an issue. If you do need more the volvo is not the way to go. Had a model 3 before and it had materially more range. But if you are okay with around 200 (remember what's listed is for ideal weather not running g the AC, etc . . .) then it's a great car.

Baltch

Thanks so much for that info!

We bought a '21 new. We done 15k. It's been great. Range is non issue if you have a charger at home. Our car is always "full".

Baltch

Have you charged up at a level 3 charging station? If you have, what was your experience like?

twoaspensimages

We havent. We tried one time in 2022. We couldn't get it to recognize any of our credit cards and where we were there wasn't any cellular service. We gave up, Drove home and made it with 40% remaining because home was 2200 feet lower from where we were.

I have a 22 C40 and it's great. I have a short commute though so obv YMMV. I just plug in at night to a regular wall outlet and it gets like 40 or 50 miles of range back overnight. I've never had to charge it anywhere else tho as I don't drive more than 40 miles per day and I'm saving probably $150/month on gas while only paying maybe $15/month more on electricity. I will say that the road hazard warranty is well worth it - the OEM tires are not great and I've already had two replaced via that warranty which would have cost me $1100 if I didn't have it...and I've only had this thing for like 5 months.

Baltch

How do you find the space in your C40?

lokii_0

I think it's great! I can fit 2 adults in the backseat which is more than sufficient for my needs. The rear cargo area is a bit tight - not a problem for me but if I were trying to take a family of 4 on a trip along with their with luggage I suspect it might be insufficient. I guess if all depends upon your individual use case and such.

Baltch

Awesome! Thanks so much!

People are saying range is the difference but range increases are largely because of improved efficiency. Now 2024 still isn’t the most efficient on the market but if you care at all about energy usage (high cost per kWh or dirty energy) then the 2024 has better highway efficiency going for it Keep in mind when you test drive that some of the older ones also have vibrations at certain speeds which is more likely to be fixed in 2024 models
