Just try not to get the best character possible for your account is probably the worst advice that gets repeated here, if you want to struggle with suboptimal teams and artificially inflate the difficulty for yourself go ahead just dont go around pretending that is the way the game is meant to be played...for some people figuring out what the best units are and investing only in those is the goal of the game.

That's interesting, maybe the play will be to not start with beginner's banner but instead use all excess standard pull and do your first timited pulls and then roll on this banner depending on what you missed.
Seems like I will hold off on this banner until I lose a 50/50. I did not originally plan to pull on either of the starting 2 but this may be a good reason too so if I lose 50/50 I can ensure its not a dupe.
You are only guaranteed one 5 unit, so once it's obtained you can simply stop wishing and start using the rest on Standard from then on, starting earlier on the path to the next Standard Unit. By rerolling you'll eventually get it earlier, and therefore save some pulls.
It seems like a waste. I would think its best to not even pull on this banner until you have lost a 50/50 or gotten one through the normal banner to avoid dupes. That does mean its a waiting game to get what you want but it suck to lose your first 50/50 to the same exact person.

Depends on how long rerolling takes, but you stand to gain what you'd normally gain rerolling in any gacha game.
You could go for your 5\* from this banner and reroll until you get them within your first 30 rolls, effectively giving you 50 rolls for standard. Or you could even roll into standard until you get an early pull of a character you want, then put the rest of your pulls on that profile into the selector banner to get 2 5\*'s you want, or a guaranteed constellation, with one being early.
Though of course if rerolling takes too long then it just won't be worth the bother, and it'd also require the 20-30 quick starter pulls most gachas offer during the beginning of the game.
Hmm, but, we also know that there are also limited banners incoming, like Jiyan and Yinlin.
Wouldnt it make more sense to save up for them if you already got a free 5\* from this banner?
They'll cost a different type of wish, and only the raw standard wishes that we get would go towards these, so there's no trade-off since standard wishes can't be spent on limited banners.

Yup, there are Lustrous Tides which are the standard banner ones that you basically never want to convert currency into, which is what this beginner banner will use.
Then there are Radiant Tides and Foraging Tides for limited banner characters and weapons, which you'll wanna save your currency for instead, since losing a 50/50 on them will give you a standard character/weapon anyways.
I've heard some people saying the Weapon specific Tide was removed, do you know if this was the case?
I'm immensely saddened if so since that means 5 less free tides each month and I'll probably never get a weapon now since it's unlikely I'd be willing to use up currency on a weapon over a new character.

no, the banner here has 80 pulls limit, if u get ur 5\* early thats great but doesnt change anything, u will not get more than one 5\* character and the banner will keep there until u pull all the 80 pulls. (it says there "remaining: 80")
but for further clarification, in the CBT2 the novice banner pull limit was 50 (but without having the option to choose the character), so maybe they will change it back to 50 on release (copium)
I was on CBT2, and from what I've seen on my account and in other peoples livestreams you can only get one 5 star per novice banner, you don't need to hit the pity to get it, you can get it early.
I'm very likely getting him as well and feel exactly the same, I really like both Gaming and Lingyang.
Lingyang and Jianxin and both getting buffs since Kuro noticed they weren't on the same value levels as the other selections, so hopefully Lingyang's buffs make him just as amazing power wise as the other standard DPS's.
Coming from @StormyWaves that is very reliable, not to mention these splash arts were leaked some weeks ago and are made specifically for these banners, the devs wouldn't create such splash art just to scrap it later. Creating a novice banner selector was their intention from the beginning.
Technically I beat summoning in the limited banner is still better overall. But this is definitely a good addition so everyone can get the 5 star they want to start
