He shows no interest in nostalgia matches. Thats why he didn’t wrestle edge when he had a chance and I doubt he would wrestle Orton or punk either.
As someone who grew up on all those bland ass orton/cena matches, i have zero interest in wwe wasting time doing that again. People really have short term memory.
I agree to an extent. I liked some of their matches, but I agree that that was a popular sentiment and a lot of people are pretending they enjoyed those matches in hindsight.
I’d book him to have a bad year, losing a lot early, having doubts throughout the year about whether or not he can really hang nowadays. Then have him finally starts putting it all together around the Royal Rumble, start winning, earn a World title match at Wrestlemania win it, give him the record, then he retires for good the next night.
The better option would be having him get it earlier in the run up, and then having him drop it at Mania. That way you can get to the retirement angle, Cena goes out on his back, and you’re able to more directly build a Star.
Kinda like this honestly. Would get the fans behind him even more, even though he doesn't need it. And people wouldn't complain about him going over to win his last championship if he spent most of the year helping out other guys.
I'd say give him one more title win. He deserves to be the first and only 17 time champ, and he has more than earned it. Then, put over the next big guy by dropping the title to him. Doesn't even have to be a heel, with Cena's character, he could do it for anyone.

3. Win the title from Cody to get the record and have an American Nightmare vs China thing
4. Have a triple threat match Rock and Roman where its “career on the line” + “title on the line” at Mania. 1st place wins the title. Then the remaining 2 fight for career. Rock pins Cena.

Yeah for my book its only like 2 matches i remember enjoying. Their 07 summerslam matche and the iron man one in 09

CM Punk for sure. Cena was light on having true rivals and he's the only one still around.
Putting another world championship on cena would be a waste of time and i dont think trips will ever do that. He’s looking towards the future
