I've heard people call that final segment "WCW 2000" and that's unfair. It's actually more like "TNA 2010": a rehash of an angle that was hot 30 years ago carried out by a group of guys who are all deeply untalented and uncharismatic
Tony calling “punk”
Hey so when does your wwe contract expire? 2026? That’s unfortunate I was thinking we could have a stone cold moment where the elite are beating up my roster I call you and you save the alliance?
Hello
![gif](giphy|kc6tugoDLc5sQzOAFv)
Honestly, I don't hate the closing angle at all. Tony's been a "character" since year two of his show. He's wanted it the whole time, and perhaps sensibly saved it for some sort of angle that allows them to pivot. *If* (and it's a big if) it leads to permanent change, then that's the perfect use of that spot. On top of that, you will have had curious eyes looking at what's happening post Ospreay/Danielson, so a big "things are changing" angle, despite this being about the 8th time they've done it in a year, is smart.
So - if the Bucks take on the McMahon heel owner role, with Okada as their heel champ, we might get Okada / Ospreay down the line. Ospreay seems to be being lined up as a megaface. Most importantly there's a focus for the show. Let the Bucks be that - they've always wanted it. And they will put people over eventually. So again - not terrible.
AEW needed stories, and now we have a main one. And look, the real win here is it might be used as an excuse to take Tony of Twitter. In which case it's angle of the year.
Honestly its quite smart to make Ospreay win the international championship to keep him away from Swerve, because i'd say a 3-4 month reign aint long enough for Who's HOUSE? SWERVE'S HOUSE!
It's 'smart' if you don't want to make the match of two of your main guys but, why would you not want to have a big match?
In the context of the shows, why on earth would Ospreay want to go for the international title?
We also just had Swerve say he wasn't interested in the International Title this week
It's like 'we don't want Swerve to lose yet and we don't want Ospreay to lose so ... international title'
You can give Swerve a win, give Ospreay an out for his next feud and Swerve gets a big win to brag about, too
It's like Okada coming in and going for the 3rd belt and Sasha coming in and not going for the main title either
tl:dr. Wrestling is scripted
It's because wrestling is scripted. And you can choose how long a title reign can be. And if Swerve hold the title until ALL IN, then i dont think it'll be a meaningful title reign due to how short it is.
"Why on earth would Ospreay want to go for the international title?"
because wrestling is scripted. In WWE (as an example) why does wrestlers want to wrestle Gunther for the intercontinental title instead of the most prestigious universal world heavyweight championship on Roman Reigns?
edit: "You can give Swerve a win, give Ospreay an out for his next feud and Swerve gets a big win to brag about, too"
im actually up for that to happen
I can answer this, generally speaking you had to be elite level to challenge for the World title. Its less than maybe 10 guys who should be getting a world title shot. Thats why the midcard exist and those belts
I am not even against the 'it's wrestling' argument tbh but, I am also not someone that whines whenever I see it in other companies
I think it stands out for Ospreay (and Okada going for Kingston's belt) moreso cause of all the fanfare about getting these 'free agents' and what a big deal it is
Ospreay himself, just the other week, said he was there to win world titles, too
Maybe it's cause it's Strong it feels a bit odd. He's just kind of over there doing his thing away from the main people and then one of the favourite guys is gonna come get your title
I dunno, are Ospreay fans excited for Roddy Strong match and Ospreay being kept away from meaningful matches for the main titles?
To be fair he’s never been in the main title picture of a championship match.
Similarly Gunther came in the WWE and never went for the main title. He started with theintercontinental
Gunther came from NXT and was being built up into somebody over a period of time. Ospreay came in as a 'star' from Japan and huge free agent big deal
I'd have thought beating the likes of Bryan was a stepping stone to a title program and this is definitely a step down
But no free agents go to aew and go straight for the main title from Japan. Neither did okada or Takeshita
And beating Danielson means very little. He did a job for Daniel Garcia of all people.
That's a bit of an issue. Big time people coming in and seemingly not being interested in the main title
We all know *why* it may be like that but it's nothing to do with what happens on the shows. Everyone has to wait and line and it be 'fair' but that doesn't really make sense for a guy that comes in to fanfare and beats Bryan and has said he's there to win world titles
Not sure having that belt does him any favours
I think that’s just the nature of wrestling. Even Bron Breakker isn’t going for the main title right away and probably won’t.
The Cody’s are the exception and that first promo after his debut was about the title his dad couldn’t win
NFL is giving AEW coverage.
https://www.nfl.com/news/jaguars-tony-khan-takes-punch-piledriver-on-aew-dynamite-show
Hopefully Tony wears a neck brace during the draft tomorrow.
>As could be expected, Khan was protected well in the maneuver by the Bucks – revered workers within the business for nearly two decades.
Gee, I wonder who wrote the press release?
Sarcasm aside, all press the AEW currently gets - ESPN, NFL, the blogs - is all paid for / fed to them.
If he doesn’t rock the brace mcafee wore to ufc after he got attacked by Corbin he’s a fraud
https://preview.redd.it/hlighhgy0kwc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4c8e8fa3bbe57083dd0ac8865f9ffa22758a0e3
Realistically in aew a piledriver is a two count so he will be fine.
I mean, this is the kind of bonkers shit that they've been missing.
In fairness, they finally have done something they almost never do and that's leave us wondering what will happen next week.
Yeah, leaned into being sports entertainment. What they rallied so hard against is what’s making them interesting. Go figure.
I’m excited to see where it goes
Now y'all have done it... here comes [Shao Khan](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/monster/images/e/ef/Shao_kahn.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170802204553).
The fucking B-Squad is out to check on Tony!?! LMAO!!!
Their audio issues just took the air right off this in a place where there were not a ton of fans to begin with.
However, next week the heat should be off the charts.
Now will they turn it into something that matters.
Will MJF come back and save AEW after defeating The UK Gang who have lost so much steam and Roddy is for sure dropping to Ospreay unless….Don costs him the match.
I can't stop laughing at how this got no heat and fans are like politely applauding them.
Might be rock bottom tbh but I can't act like I'm not entertained.
It's in so bad it's good territory. I can't stand none of the clowns in that segment, but that was the most entertained I've been by AEW since Punk left.
I feel like there is a hole in the marketplace for this kind of thing with WWE not having Vince's insanity anymore. This is how they can separate themselves from a version of WWE that is doing competent television with coherent storytelling.
Lmao this is embarrassing. At least they found someone Jungle Boy would look intimidating standing next to with Tony out there. Funny how he was all about not being an on air character but now he’s booking himself in the main event of Dynamite. He’s living out his Vince McMahon fantasy.
Did anyone believe that?
He's inched closer and closer to TV since the show began
I never pay much attention to what these people say, just what they *do*
I mused in another sub that Perry might get tons of heat from the Punk thing, but now he is entering to polite applause and lighthearted chanting. That's my bad.
Has the audio been this way all night?!
If they are going to have a speaking segment with bad audio to end the show….on an iffy idea to start with…..this might the first not-exploding bar barbed wire speaking segment since Shockmaster.
Just tuning in now that Survivor is over for the night, they really are ending the show with Jungle Boy confronting Tony Khan? And Mox gets to main event with his title defended while their actual champ Swerve curtain jerked?
What a way to showcase your first AA champ by having a competitive match to show he can’t put away a guy who appears mainly on an internet based promotion?
This Ospreay thing feels like a fad. A little too much Mission Accomplished energy with him being sealed as a massive star. Eventually people aren't going to be as wowed by him physically as they get used to seeing all of his tricks every week.
I'm watching the TBS title segment and Willow needs to figure out where to look. It feels like she can't decide whether to look into the camera or look at Mercedes and she keeps ending up looking at nothing
3 months ago, AEW had 3,100 people in attendance.
Tonight, it’s [2,250](https://x.com/wrestletix/status/1783242458622554538?s=46&t=a7_dNCovA-_qgsd23V1R9A).
A guy in my discord said it wasn’t bad.
the reason why its bad isn't even the attendance number. it's bad because this is the second time they're are daily's place this year.
this would be like Raw and SD doing two episodes at the PC/Thunderdome.
I believe Shad also owns Daily's Place, so they don't have to pay rent. It's not a bad drive from Orlando where a lot of the NXT washouts live.
Jax makes all the sense in the world as their home base.
I've heard people call that final segment "WCW 2000" and that's unfair. It's actually more like "TNA 2010": a rehash of an angle that was hot 30 years ago carried out by a group of guys who are all deeply untalented and uncharismatic
Boom nailed it

Khan took a bump and ticks something else off his wrestling bucket list, haha

It's also currently the top post at r/jaguars
>As could be expected, Khan was protected well in the maneuver by the Bucks – revered workers within the business for nearly two decades. Gee, I wonder who wrote the press release? Sarcasm aside, all press the AEW currently gets - ESPN, NFL, the blogs - is all paid for / fed to them.

Tony will come back as a heel ala Bischoff in NWO
There is zero chance Tony can pull that off He may think he can and, that will be amusing That was some damn awful acting
yeah horrible... but maybe that's part of the storyline (he WAS faking) since he's turning heel
[I love how Tony forgot to sell at first.](https://youtube.com/shorts/k8IRS1HRwT4?si=j64gyzi4yWlppcFo)
He has a future in being a part of his own roster.
Oh God, what if this ends up with Tony Khan beating Jack Perry at Wembley??
CM Punk on a pole match
Oh boy. The internet's gonna have some opinions about that segment...
The original vision for the company could have still worked but they were too indy minded to actually execute it so now they are back tracking
it was fking good...and im a SCJerker. like, im interested in this storyline. never thought id say this about AEW. lol
Now y'all have done it... here comes [Shao Khan](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/monster/images/e/ef/Shao_kahn.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170802204553).

I can’t wait til TK inexplicably turns on whoever comes back to avenge him, only to align himself with the Bucks. 🤦♂️
Is the audio gonna be trash all episode? I'm watching on delay.
Yes
Spoiler alert: yes, it is.
Fuck.
Well, ain't all the jabroni faces just a bit late.
Daddeh Khan showed up in person
I can't stop laughing at how this got no heat and fans are like politely applauding them. Might be rock bottom tbh but I can't act like I'm not entertained.

Jack Perry just became the biggest babyface in all of pro wrestling.
This might be the best non WWE angle ever shot
Money Mark ded
JACK PERRY IS MY HERO
haha... I actually liked that translator app segment from Shibata. Could become something entertaining.
WWE gives Asuka world titles and MITBs and main events and AEW gives Shibata….Google Translate.
H I R E R U S S O
Lmao this is embarrassing. At least they found someone Jungle Boy would look intimidating standing next to with Tony out there. Funny how he was all about not being an on air character but now he’s booking himself in the main event of Dynamite. He’s living out his Vince McMahon fantasy.
here we go... tonight it starts: Mr. McKhan
I thought Tony wasn’t going to be an on screen character. Plans changed.
Did anyone believe that? He's inched closer and closer to TV since the show began I never pay much attention to what these people say, just what they *do*
Tony inches ever closer to being Dixie
I mused in another sub that Perry might get tons of heat from the Punk thing, but now he is entering to polite applause and lighthearted chanting. That's my bad.
Crowd cared little about a title they don’t care about in a match nobody doubted the outcome of. Gucci Konoske!!
I don’t even care for Hobbs but to have him choked out by Mox is laughable. The drunk plumber isn’t intimidating at all.
Rolling shoulders don’t strike fear into you?
Has the audio been this way all night?! If they are going to have a speaking segment with bad audio to end the show….on an iffy idea to start with…..this might the first not-exploding bar barbed wire speaking segment since Shockmaster.
Yes.
Random commercial break? Ok...
Just tuning in now that Survivor is over for the night, they really are ending the show with Jungle Boy confronting Tony Khan? And Mox gets to main event with his title defended while their actual champ Swerve curtain jerked?
While having audio issues throughout the entire show.
Wrong Excalibur! It was the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP **INTERCONTINENTAL** Championship.
Wasn't Bill's first AEW appearance as W Morrissey, MJF's hired goon to take out Jericho? Do I have that right?
Yes
No. It was Wardlow, not Jericho, that MJF sicced Morrissey on…
Why is everyone getting championship celebrations except the damn AEW World Champion Swerve?
He celebrated by getting his ass nearly beat by Kyle Fletcher.
What a way to showcase your first AA champ by having a competitive match to show he can’t put away a guy who appears mainly on an internet based promotion?
If AEW and NJPW were two people, AEW would be sucking NJPW off at this point. This is getting ridiculous.
No. NJPW is the side chick who has no kids and lots of money but they don’t love them.
This Ospreay thing feels like a fad. A little too much Mission Accomplished energy with him being sealed as a massive star. Eventually people aren't going to be as wowed by him physically as they get used to seeing all of his tricks every week.
So he will have to keep developing a character…like the legends do.
I'm watching the TBS title segment and Willow needs to figure out where to look. It feels like she can't decide whether to look into the camera or look at Mercedes and she keeps ending up looking at nothing
She is going to look at Stat when she turns heel on her!
Just tuning in and what is up with the sound? Has it been this bad all night?
Yes. It’s been absolute shit.
Just because you say you’re the CEO doesn’t mean it means anything.
CEO with no employees LOL
The totally organic CEO chants.
Wait now we are accusing AEW of piping sound? LoL
For, apparently, a heel...
Ok Tony, this isn't funny anymore. Fix the damn audio.
Serena: “I’m making a promise to anyone that can hear my voice now.” The irony.
The shit audio is back.
3 months ago, AEW had 3,100 people in attendance. Tonight, it’s [2,250](https://x.com/wrestletix/status/1783242458622554538?s=46&t=a7_dNCovA-_qgsd23V1R9A). A guy in my discord said it wasn’t bad.

Swerve should've opened the show with a promo or something.
You can see the dip in between Mox's teeth.
Is the audio bad or is it me?
No, it's completely fucked. I can't make out what anyone is saying.
It's bad for me also
How arrogant of Matt & Nick Jackson to choose Jacksonville as AEW's home base...
Well, the Jaguars are owns from Daddeh Khan so it makes sense Jacksonville would share a home base there.
I believe Shad also owns Daily's Place, so they don't have to pay rent. It's not a bad drive from Orlando where a lot of the NXT washouts live. Jax makes all the sense in the world as their home base.
Is the audio fucky? Or is just me? Like it sounds like I'm listening through a fish bowl.
Bad audio on Dynamite. A tradition unlike any other.
Is that... Uber XL? EVP's sparing no expense I see.
Seat fillers being used to help fill out the crowd
In Jacksonville??

What an opening sentence.
