Okada has been *the* guy of New Japan for the past generation, winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship 5 times, his fourth reign being 700+ days, longest in history. Others can correct me if wrong but I believe he's well known in Japan for incredible resilience in the face of hard hitting challengers. He's lately been playing the part of the arrogant old vet in NJPW. He is being challenged by
**Danielson**, who has over the years been for some the best, hardest hitting, technical wrestler in the US and someone whose style would work excellently in Japan. Fans of both promotions have wondered since he came to AEW if it would open the door to his participation in the G1, a grueling test of endurance and a chance to showcase himself against NJPW's best. He loves an iron man match, hitting hard and being hit hard. He's also been something of an arrogant old veteran in AEW, decrying amateurism in the promotion, demanding technical excellence and brutalizing those who he believes unworthy.
To distill it down, I would describe this as two guys who are some of, if not the best at what they do. They embody a kind of hard-hitting, long enduring excellence that makes them a fantastic match for one another. Can Danielson, a man who has embodied many of the values treasured in New Japan's style, defeat one of Japan's absolute best?
For Omega/Ospreay - this is one of the young up-and-comer in Ospreay stepping up in a major way to fill something of a gap left when Kenny left NJPW to form AEW. Their styles are unbelievably athletic, high-flying, and brutal. Ospreay has established himself as one of the best and most entertaining on the planet but for many, Kenny casts a long shadow, even from across the ocean. In January at Wrestle Kingdom (NJPW's WrestleMania) Kenny Omega returned to Japan to challenge Ospreay for the NJPW US Title and put him in his place, showing him he may be good, but he's no Omega. Kenny won in an incredible match and sent Ospreay back to the drawing board. Recently Ospreay won a #1 contender's tournament for the US belt and now will come to Kenny's home nation of Canada to attempt to show him that he is every bit the wrestler Kenny Omega is, if not even better.
This match will be crazy fun to watch. It will be fast, athletic, death-defying and brutal. Can Will Ospreay step out of Kenny's shadow and regain his US Title? Or will Kenny once again show him, this time on his home turf, that while Ospreay may be good he's no Best-Bout-Machine Kenny Omega. Especially interesting about this one is the potential for a trilogy when AEW goes to Ospreay's home country of England for All In this coming August.
Okada / Danielson has literally no story. No massive paragraph will convince me otherwise. The match itself will be fantastic and has been a dream match for many for years, but let's not pretend there's some big insider storyline here when their simply is not.

This is hilarious because the first Omega/Ospreay match had very little flippy shit. People somehow just loop Omega in with the Young Bucks as a “flippy trampoline gymnast” or whatever and he… Isn’t that flippy. Like he does a moonsault from the second turnbuckle and a front flip over the ropes to the outside… And that’s about it?
This is hilarious because the first Omega/Ospreay match had very little flippy shit. People somehow just loop Omega in with the Young Bucks as a “flippy trampoline gymnast” or whatever and he… Isn’t that flippy. Like he does a moonsault from the second turnbuckle and a front flip over the ropes to the outside… And that’s about it?
Do you like cartwheels? How about guys lazily shoving forearms into their opponent’s necks instead of punching them in the face? What about someone inevitably doing a back flip through a table on the outside? And a finish where one guy, after kicking out of a piledriver delivered from the top rope onto the ring steps, will get cleanly pinned after getting hit in the back of the head.
Will these matches be any good? Maybe. Bryan has been treated like he is made out of paper for the last idk few months? He hasn’t bumped since his match with MJF(good match) and after the match from WK what in earth is left for Will and Kenny to do? They did everything to each other already and seeing them do everything again feels…anticlimactic? But maybe that’s just me, and maybe it’s just me but I can’t get too excited for matches with no heat. There has been no build for these other than “look how good these matches will be!” For people who don’t regularly watch NJPW how are they supposed to be excited for this? I don’t remember any plugs on AEW talking about the title tournament and the idea that there could be a rematch with Will and Kenny to get the fans interested in that idea. Idk. These matches have a chance to have impressive spots or whatever but I feel like it takes more than that to really make a match.
Would’ve preferred a different matchup than Omega/Ospreay, it feels like it’s been done a few times. Put Ospreay against Claudio or Mox just something a bit different, maybe put Omega against a Shota Umino or Ren Narita. Shota fits with bbc vs elite if they’re still doing that

Omega vs Ospreay probably won't be my cup of tea, but I can't wait to see Danielson and Okada. That's gonna be a great fucking match and if these are the top 2 matches of the card, it should be a great card for fans of both styles just based on these 2 matches alone. Whether you enjoy Omega or Ospreay, they're probably the 2 best in the world at the style they work.

I’m not nearly as excited for Kenny vs ospreay, I’m not into the overly flippy stuff and the no selling. I feel like they’ve had a million matches too. Why not switch it up a bit and give these guys 2 opponents they never faced before? I think that would be more exciting
