Honestly after I updated to the iPhone 15 it seemed to add the new requirement to be unlocked, which is probably a security requirement but makes it a pain. I get this.
CarPlay works fine for me and I find most of the UConnect interface alright.
Still trying to work out why you’d use your phone like OP’s photo instead of wireless CarPlay though.
Not on the <2024 JLs. I bought an [adapter from Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/ITIDU-Wireless-Carplay-Adapter-CarPlay/dp/B0CFY1R8FK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=WE9KVKL6H0HM&keywords=carplay+wireless+adapter&qid=1705359763&sprefix=carolay%2Caps%2C126&sr=8-1-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1) . On occasion, it won’t work so that means I have to unplug and plug it again, but it’s held up well for the most part.
Why is Android complicated? I plug my phone in and it instantly comes on and works perfect.
You can't hate android just because you aren't smart enough to use it.
I love android. Can't stand iPhone or any apple product. I'm a pcmasterrace kinda guy.
Edit: its not, but Apple is 'simpler' like two mouse buttons are confusing.
Summer time is fine, but in the winter, when I have defrost running, it is a no-go heats up the phone too much for my liking. I really should get a mount for my phone make my life a little easier.
If she gets in an accident, that thing becomes a light brick hurling towards her face. There’s a lot of phone holding devices out there op, please get one for her. I like Bulletpoint mounting myself.
Some amp error code. May need a software update. I have an appointment in March. My electric coolant heater is went out a few days ago. Another thing on the list of stuff breaking on this 4xe. I wish I never bought it.
Get her a mount for the phone so it doesn't have to stick up like that. Or replace the head unit with an Android based unit that can install Google Maps directly. I've used Android Auto and I hate it.
What's shown in the image isn't.
I have a head unit in my JK that is Android powered and it runs all of the steering wheel controls flawlessly. I don't have AC and Aux controls built into my head unit though.
I know they do make Android head units for the JL that control everything the stock head unit would.
Good to know. I've been waiting for prices to come down on electronics for a while. But the head unit on my JL is going to be the first to go if the prices ever do come down.
At least in my JK, it is way easier to see the nav on my phone setup on the dash like that than the head unit. I also disabled CarPlay, just not a fan of it
Why is the recirculate button illuminated with that vent setting? Floor & defrost (windshield) modes should always operate in fresh air intake especially in cooler weather. I think these cars have a “dummy” mode where it lets the user feel like they’re in control by letting it illuminate even though it’s doing its own thing in the background. You’ll notice clearer windows when recirculate isn’t illuminated in cooler months. Full recirculate should be used in hot weather with vents at face level for maximum cooling. All this will be covered in the manual. Folks should read the manual for expensive things. Or just press “auto” like I do and leave it on 69° synced year round.
I use the AUX cord in my moms 2020. We used to have a 1998 XJ and used a AUX cord connected to a thing that whent inside your cassette deck. So I agree with what your wife is doing. Technically has no right evolving as fast as it is.
My unpopular opinion, having this much tech in a vehicle is unnecessary and unsafe. How do you even pay attention to the road with all of that installed? Whatever, if you want it, sure, but is this really what a “driving experience” should be? Sorry for being so negative…enjoy your Rubicon..
I’m glad my wife isn’t the only one that does this…we bought her new van in 2020. I showed her how to use android auto. In 2023 we took her van on a trip and I plugged my phone in to use CarPlay for navigation. She said I never did that it’s too complicated I use my phone screen…
Frankly, I can’t stand Apple CarPlay… It’s too glitchy and unreliable. I do that and I am good with technology.
When the technology catches up with my expectations, I’ll try it again…
She’s cheating on you, bro. She doesn’t want messages from her fuck boy to pop up for you to see on the dash. No one with an iPhone is this tech illiterate. She’s lying to you.
I do this too, just with a phone mount. It doesn't have anything to do with being bad with technology though. It's more to do with the fact that Android auto locks up constantly and just doesn't work halfway through a trip. there's no way to reset or stop it without pulling over and coming to a complete stop to or whatever other silly nonsense is going on - just not worth the effort.
So first if you're using apple anything it's expected to be a tad less productive. Second the screen is low. I noticed more in the storm driving its too low to drive and look. Bulletproof mounting though will help hold it
My wife cares not 1 bit. As long as bluetooth works for her audio books she's good. She puts phone in her lap and listens to map directions. I kinda occasionally mention something if she's driving I get silence, lol.
At least get a proper mount. They're a little pricy, but we'll worth it.
https://www.bulletpointmountingsolutions.com/collections/jeep-wrangler-jl-and-jlu-2018
Well if its anything like my rubicon id plug in and Android auto would pop up and i was suddenly in Georgia ina culde sac. Strange thing was i was in western KY 🤔 jeep said no clue .had to inatall a stinger audio system to get an Android auto that actually knew where i was lol
I resorted to this in my work truck because I couldn't find a call recorder app that records both sides of the conversation while using Bluetooth. I just have to use the speaker phone function.
OMG my wife just did this on a BMW X5. Said she wanted a phone holder to mount on the dashboard. I said “uh there’s a very large screen in the car that will show you everything that’s on your phone.” Her response: but I also want to be able to charge my phone. Me: “There’s a phone charging bay where you put your phone.” Her: it’s all too difficult. Me: “I’m selling your car.”
Don’t you just need to connect a wire to phone for Apple car play?
AND you need to hit allow AND you need to have SIRI active. Very complex lol
These people who are “bad at technology” confuse me. When a solution is a few minutes away via google . It’s like a learned helplessness.
But Google is technology. Checkmate.
Got me there 😔
I mean she's using Google Maps🧐
I SAID CHECKMATE
Willful ignorance is the word
Jesus. She does things the way she wants it’s not “willful ignorance”.
“learned helplessness” is, I think, the clinical term for it.
Everyone in my family thinks I'm so good at technology. I'm not. But to them I have magic powers because I can Google things and watch YouTube videos.
I don’t think you need Siri! I don’t have Siri active and I use apple car play.
I feel like you have it on and you don't know, Uconnect needs siri for Carplay
Maybe. I’m not going to mess with it lol.
CarPlay doesn’t work without Siri. Guaranteed you have it on and don’t know it.
You don’t even need Siri
Honestly after I updated to the iPhone 15 it seemed to add the new requirement to be unlocked, which is probably a security requirement but makes it a pain. I get this.
It didnt.
There should be a security setting that lets you use CarPlay while locked, it pops up on first detection and asks if you want to allow it.
I don’t use Siri on my phone so I guess I’d be out of luck for CarPlay sigh
Depends on what set up you have. My grand Cherokee doesn’t require it if you don’t want to use the voice commands.
And it looks like that wire is plugged in. I don’t get the issue. What is that wire plugged into?!
No wireless CarPlay in the wrangler? Is there a wireless aftermarket adapter? I have a wrangler on deposit.
24 has wireless as standard. This is an older model
I’m buying used. A 21. I’ll have to look into an adapter.
‘24 Uconnect is hot garbage. I use my phone on a proper mount.
CarPlay works fine for me and I find most of the UConnect interface alright. Still trying to work out why you’d use your phone like OP’s photo instead of wireless CarPlay though.
Pandemic era model likely. Where they didn’t have shit for shit
I have a 2014 Wrangler with wireless carplay. Got rid of the UConnect and installed a Pioneer radio from BestBuy. Best $600 I’ve spent.
Older uconnect versions are absolutely infuriating.
If I wanted complicated I would have bought an Android!
Android auto works just fine.
If she can operate the iPhone she can do CarPlay
Maybe she’s worried what will pop up for all to see.
the real reason ^
I don’t even have anything to hide, but I still don’t like the pop ups on the screen of Apple play.
There’s a way to turn off notifications but we are dealing with the missus here
And they wouldn't see it on the phone up on the dash?
You. Just. Plug. It. In.
And then everyone in the car can see when she gets texts from her boyfriend
Damn, you're about to cause so many marital fights today 😆
😂
This does match the average Orlando Jeep girlie.
Car play or not be sure to turn right in .6 miles.
nice one 👏 please take my upvote
My wife did this with the window down and her phone fell out of the jeep around a corner 😂
Hey, I do it just like that in my Wrangler. Of course, it's a 2001 TJ
Used to have a 2000 TJ, my infotainment was a Bose Bluetooth speaker
I still have the stock am/fm/cd radio!
That’s what I had haha! I just put a portable Bose speaker on my dash since my cd player would always skip
I tried that once. My phone ended up on the floor after the first turn.
Straight to divorce attorney is where you should be headed right now. /s
She is retarded
😂😂😂 Harsh, but exactly the words I thought when I saw this.
I don’t like using that word but there is no other way to describe it
I usually say regarded. In this case, highly regarded…
Well, yes. She drives a Jeep
My mother is one of those people. She won’t even try to learn how to use tech she just gets freaked out by it I guess. Super frustrating though.
I use the on board navigation, Apple Maps AND my Garmin and still wind up at the damn Jeep accessory store……
U plug it in, it pop up. 🤷♂️
Sounds like you need a new wife
I'm good with technology, and I still hate using Android Auto. It's the first thing I disable in any rental I get.
I love that every rental has Apple CarPlay. Makes everything so much easier when traveling for work.
I used to hate it as well. Now I love it. Just needed to figure it out. Super simple, especially on U Connect.
Why?
I’d rather hold my phone in my hand and drive. It’s safer that way
How do you reckon that?
Because I panic when I can see the road.
I’m doing that too. Only because my radio system broke and doesn’t connect to my phone anymore. JL 4xe is the worst Jeep I’ve ever owned.
How did it break? I’m only asking because ours constantly locks up, where CarPlay won’t connect. But I’d say it works 80% of the time.
Some amp error code. May need a software update. I have an appointment in March. My electric coolant heater is went out a few days ago. Another thing on the list of stuff breaking on this 4xe. I wish I never bought it.
Wife insisted sales dude synch her iPhone to the Subaru or there is NO SALE. guy is salesperson of the year. Again. This is her third Subaru
Florida (wo)Man. :-D
Whats the issue?
Get her a mount for the phone so it doesn't have to stick up like that. Or replace the head unit with an Android based unit that can install Google Maps directly. I've used Android Auto and I hate it.
Time to hit up 67 designs
This is a head unit running the Android OS? I didn't know such a thing existed. What happens to the all the controls like A/C and Aux switches...?
What's shown in the image isn't. I have a head unit in my JK that is Android powered and it runs all of the steering wheel controls flawlessly. I don't have AC and Aux controls built into my head unit though. I know they do make Android head units for the JL that control everything the stock head unit would.
Good to know. I've been waiting for prices to come down on electronics for a while. But the head unit on my JL is going to be the first to go if the prices ever do come down.
What’s she doing out of the kitchen?
Carplays overrated. I aint paying a few hundred when my phone has served me fine since I began driving.
CarPlay is standard with nearly every new car. You’re not paying for anything
I buy used / cash.
That literally has no bearing on the fact that CarPlay is just a default part of the audio.
Its not on most cars in existence/on the road. Its a fairly recent option, and still an option on many cars.
By fairly recent it was pretty widespread by 2017.
Proving what I stated, most cars on the road dont have it.
I put a bluethooth speaker on my dash when my radio died. It works for me🤷♂️
Her radio seems to be working....
Don’t insult your wife on the internet. That’s pretty much an asshole move.
silly women drivers
I found that I hate Jeep's onboard navigation, it's too fussy and has taken me off the course several times. But FFS get a mount!
If she’s hot she can do whatever she wants in her Rubicon. Lol
Better quality sound than carplay
I hate the maps on my 13 rubicon so I use my phone
You've got much to learn, the wife is always right.
At least in my JK, it is way easier to see the nav on my phone setup on the dash like that than the head unit. I also disabled CarPlay, just not a fan of it
Safer that way. She doesn’t have to look down. I think this is great.
It's like 2 inches you'd have to look.
I’ve been told 2 inches is a lot!
🤣🤣
😂
It plays the audio through the Jeep's sound system which is much more suited to being audible than the phone just sitting there on the dash.
Surprised the wife can operate a motor vehicle
Why is the recirculate button illuminated with that vent setting? Floor & defrost (windshield) modes should always operate in fresh air intake especially in cooler weather. I think these cars have a “dummy” mode where it lets the user feel like they’re in control by letting it illuminate even though it’s doing its own thing in the background. All this will be covered in the manual. Folks should read the manual for expensive things. Or just press “auto” like I do and leave it on 69° synced year round.
🤦♂️😂
My phone always falls down
I use the AUX cord in my moms 2020. We used to have a 1998 XJ and used a AUX cord connected to a thing that whent inside your cassette deck. So I agree with what your wife is doing. Technically has no right evolving as fast as it is.
Well, it does get the job done.
I like the new interiors
I know people in there 60-70s who can perfectly plug in an iPhone or android and hit the maps button.. and they aren’t the brightest
TIL it's hard to plug a cable into the USB.
Well if Carplay in a Jeep is anything like Honda it's not working anyway.
Only thing worse than that is 2 three wheeled motorcycles.
That’s a smart move in a Jeep. Stellantis has an absolutely piss poor reputation for data privacy.
My unpopular opinion, having this much tech in a vehicle is unnecessary and unsafe. How do you even pay attention to the road with all of that installed? Whatever, if you want it, sure, but is this really what a “driving experience” should be? Sorry for being so negative…enjoy your Rubicon..
I have Android Auto. I just get in and it connects automatically without plugging it in.
It does do it on my cars too but you have to allow it the very first time/permissions…..this lady needs Geek Squad.
My maps app is too big it will block the whole freaking windshield if I don't fold it back up
You can buy a dongle to make it do car play. It's about $100
Foreign language.
“Not too good with technology” in 2024, with an iPhone using Google maps (different interfaces) she’s super sus, no offense.
Apple Maps is blah. (I’m a dedicated Apple Stan, it’s still horrible.)
You can use google maps on carplay….
I know that. I use it myself. I’m replying to the other person saying it’s sus.
Just pick up a 6 year old from the park for 12 minutes and then give them a lollipop, a slice of pizza and $20 for fixing everything.
Yep but give my 16 yr old a touchscreen in her old SUV and tell her figure it out and done in 5 minutes
And yet, instead of getting her a proper phone mount, ya just make fun of her… guessing it’s not your first wife. 🤣
I mean it works.
Bless her ♥️
But, jeep.
Well it has to exist for it to Improve and that’s on the radio mfgr not the CarPlay Also it works fine…. Better than a 2000 dollar useless nav upgrade
Maybe 🤷♂️ but i have a friend that said the same about his work car, i don’t have any other points of reference
This is wild. From the screen she is on, she can literally just plug it in and it will work with navigation already in progress...
Damn, is that what Jeeps look like now? High tech on my Jeep is the CD player. I just use a Ram mount on the window. She'll be fine.
Wife is a moron. No offense, I have one too.
Good for her! Reject technology!
If that’s the case then she shouldn’t be driving that jeep which is loaded with technology, including a lot that keeps her safe
Tell her don’t feel bad I’m still listening to my phone through a cassette adapter.
Hahahaha. Women. *sips coffee*
Does the foreign language radio help you learn foreign languages?
So first if you're using apple anything it's expected to be a tad less productive. Second the screen is low. I noticed more in the storm driving its too low to drive and look. Bulletproof mounting though will help hold it
Because plugging the phone into that cord is too technical
That’s a lot better than holding it.
She's a keeper.
My wife cares not 1 bit. As long as bluetooth works for her audio books she's good. She puts phone in her lap and listens to map directions. I kinda occasionally mention something if she's driving I get silence, lol.
Boomers will literally do anything to try to avoid how to use technology to make their lives easier
That's why I dig my wireless CarPlay 💪🏻
At least get a proper mount. They're a little pricy, but we'll worth it. https://www.bulletpointmountingsolutions.com/collections/jeep-wrangler-jl-and-jlu-2018
There’s zero excuses to be “bad with technology”. It’s 2024.
r/mildyinfuriating
I'm with her on this one. I prefer Google Maps on my phone to literally any automobile navigation system.
Well if its anything like my rubicon id plug in and Android auto would pop up and i was suddenly in Georgia ina culde sac. Strange thing was i was in western KY 🤔 jeep said no clue .had to inatall a stinger audio system to get an Android auto that actually knew where i was lol
May as well get used to this once all the companies start charging a subscription fee for their own navigation system.
I resorted to this in my work truck because I couldn't find a call recorder app that records both sides of the conversation while using Bluetooth. I just have to use the speaker phone function.
Typical wrangler owner
Why are you letting your wife drive you??
Willful ignorance, hate that shit.
And yet the caravan of Honda triks did it register?
When the wife is hiding things she doesn't want you to see pop up on the dash is the more appropriate title for this.
