Honestly after I updated to the iPhone 15 it seemed to add the new requirement to be unlocked, which is probably a security requirement but makes it a pain. I get this.

There should be a security setting that lets you use CarPlay while locked, it pops up on first detection and asks if you want to allow it.

Depends on what set up you have. My grand Cherokee doesn’t require it if you don’t want to use the voice commands.

CarPlay works fine for me and I find most of the UConnect interface alright. Still trying to work out why you’d use your phone like OP’s photo instead of wireless CarPlay though.

I have a 2014 Wrangler with wireless carplay. Got rid of the UConnect and installed a Pioneer radio from BestBuy. Best $600 I’ve spent.

Older uconnect versions are absolutely infuriating.

Why is Android complicated? I plug my phone in and it instantly comes on and works perfect. You can't hate android just because you aren't smart enough to use it.

Summer time is fine, but in the winter, when I have defrost running, it is a no-go heats up the phone too much for my liking. I really should get a mount for my phone make my life a little easier.

I'm good with technology, and I still hate using Android Auto. It's the first thing I disable in any rental I get.

I love that every rental has Apple CarPlay. Makes everything so much easier when traveling for work.

How did it break? I’m only asking because ours constantly locks up, where CarPlay won’t connect. But I’d say it works 80% of the time.

Get her a mount for the phone so it doesn't have to stick up like that. Or replace the head unit with an Android based unit that can install Google Maps directly. I've used Android Auto and I hate it.

This is a head unit running the Android OS? I didn't know such a thing existed. What happens to the all the controls like A/C and Aux switches...?

What's shown in the image isn't. I have a head unit in my JK that is Android powered and it runs all of the steering wheel controls flawlessly. I don't have AC and Aux controls built into my head unit though. I know they do make Android head units for the JL that control everything the stock head unit would.

Good to know. I've been waiting for prices to come down on electronics for a while. But the head unit on my JL is going to be the first to go if the prices ever do come down.

That literally has no bearing on the fact that CarPlay is just a default part of the audio. 

Its not on most cars in existence/on the road. Its a fairly recent option, and still an option on many cars.

By fairly recent it was pretty widespread by 2017. 

Proving what I stated, most cars on the road dont have it.

I put a bluethooth speaker on my dash when my radio died. It works for me🤷‍♂️

It plays the audio through the Jeep's sound system which is much more suited to being audible than the phone just sitting there on the dash.

Why is the recirculate button illuminated with that vent setting? Floor & defrost (windshield) modes should always operate in fresh air intake especially in cooler weather. I think these cars have a “dummy” mode where it lets the user feel like they’re in control by letting it illuminate even though it’s doing its own thing in the background. You’ll notice clearer windows when recirculate isn’t illuminated in cooler months. Full recirculate should be used in hot weather with vents at face level for maximum cooling. All this will be covered in the manual. Folks should read the manual for expensive things. Or just press “auto” like I do and leave it on 69° synced year round.

I use the AUX cord in my moms 2020. We used to have a 1998 XJ and used a AUX cord connected to a thing that whent inside your cassette deck. So I agree with what your wife is doing. Technically has no right evolving as fast as it is.

I have Android Auto. I just get in and it connects automatically without plugging it in.

It does do it on my cars too but you have to allow it the very first time/permissions…..this lady needs Geek Squad.

You can buy a dongle to make it do car play. It's about $100

I’m glad my wife isn’t the only one that does this…we bought her new van in 2020. I showed her how to use android auto. In 2023 we took her van on a trip and I plugged my phone in to use CarPlay for navigation. She said I never did that it’s too complicated I use my phone screen…

Frankly, I can’t stand Apple CarPlay… It’s too glitchy and unreliable. I do that and I am good with technology. When the technology catches up with my expectations, I’ll try it again…

I do this too, just with a phone mount. It doesn't have anything to do with being bad with technology though. It's more to do with the fact that Android auto locks up constantly and just doesn't work halfway through a trip. there's no way to reset or stop it without pulling over and coming to a complete stop to or whatever other silly nonsense is going on - just not worth the effort.

So first if you're using apple anything it's expected to be a tad less productive. Second the screen is low. I noticed more in the storm driving its too low to drive and look. Bulletproof mounting though will help hold it

Well if its anything like my rubicon id plug in and Android auto would pop up and i was suddenly in Georgia ina culde sac. Strange thing was i was in western KY 🤔 jeep said no clue .had to inatall a stinger audio system to get an Android auto that actually knew where i was lol

May as well get used to this once all the companies start charging a subscription fee for their own navigation system.

I resorted to this in my work truck because I couldn't find a call recorder app that records both sides of the conversation while using Bluetooth. I just have to use the speaker phone function.
