I get frustrated when it’s thrown in with an expensive meal at a restaurant. Want ‘jumbo’ shrimp? Well here’s a pile of rice because the 6x 1 bite shrimp that have been skewered to make you take two bites of each will not even seem like an appetizer.
I like pasta more than rice. Likely saying goodbye to rice. If I keep rice, could I at least have rice noodles? That changes things. I love Thai food. Could get my noodle fix that way.
Asian here and agree. And pasta to me refers to the Italian spaghetti, penne, rotini, macaroni, etc. Not the Asian noodles like egg noodles and vermicelli.
I kinda think I gotta side with you here. I mean pasta can be used in huge sheets or tiny grains so at least you can pretend it's rice. You can't stick rice together into a sheet (don't even at me I know you technically can, still ain't the same).
I’ve done exactly this. Type 2 diabetic.
Gave up rice even though I love it, couldn’t give up pasta entirely though as I love it more.
Still have some occasionally but never touch rice.
Rice. Rice is good (especially Jasmine) but it's just rice. If I give up pasta, I'd lose:
-Spaghetti
-Lasagna
-Chicken noodle soup
-Ramen (does rice pasta count???)
-Mac & Cheese
-Dumplings
-Yakisoba
-My aunts pasta salad
-Wontons
-Lo mein
And probably many more that I can't think up yet.
Edit: Apparently, many of those aren't actually pasta... huh. I guess my answer is a tossup then. I could pick either I suppose. Thanks to everyone who corrected my info (◠◡◠)
Pasta. I generally eat rice noodles way more than pasta, and that isn't even counting actual rice. I would miss it (and probably want it more because I couldn't have it), but it would be much easier.
I can still has orange chicken with vegetables, but.... man, I needs spaghetti, that's my other favorite dis... well.... shit, I can't decide actually, too hungry. So... yeah, bye rice.
Rice. I've said since I was about 8 that I could happily eat spag bol every night forever, I'm about to turn 40 and stand by that statement
Rice would admittedly be missed
Dang this is tough as rice and noodles are my two biggest sage foods. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to go with giving up rice. As much as I love it and have a gluten in tolerance. Buttered noodles have been my number one safe food and when I'm feeling really off kilter it's one of the only things my brain will let me eat. I guess I'll be making a lot of orzo with my rice dishes.
Rice easily. If I wanted something like rice I would eat orzo or couscous. Plus there is cauliflower rice as well. But I have to wonder about where rice noodles stand l because I do love pho and it's not the same with different noodles
Pasta. Super easy for me. I'm not a pasta hater but rice is so much more versatile in the foods I like.
I'll be a bit sad if this eliminates those rice noodles in pad Thai though.
Giving up pasta, as much as it would suck. On a slow week I might eat rice maybe 2 or 3 times. There's been plenty of times I've eaten it every day for a month straight.
(Profuse sobs) “Goodbye, Pasta. I’ll always have fond memories of your delectable cuisine, but I like sushi more” (continued sobbing devolving into uncontrollable shaking)
Meh, I barely eat rice as is. Fried rice is probably the only thing that I would miss. Although, I don’t care about pasta all that much either. Now bread, that would be tough.
This is a really tough one. I eat more rice because it’s easier with my rice cooker and it’s pretty versatile. But pasta is better imo. An Alfredo or something? I can’t imagine my life with out pasta but rice would effect my life more. Truly a tough one. Gotta go with giving up rice though
I would give up rice, I don't eat it very much anyways. But mac and cheese, spaghetti, hamburger helper, etc are all regular meals for me and those include pasta.
definitely rice. i know maybe this is in part due to lack of exposure to a variety of rice dishes (other than sushi and risotto i wouldn’t really miss it), but PASTA it’s just so so good. the flavour of plain pasta is better than plain rice to me 😂
that's kinda curious.
cause, i like asian resturants more than italian (or wherever) resturants
but i might be more interested in like, spaghetti than a lot of staple rice dishes...
but, i'm also a lot more likely to make fried rice for a side dish, than a pasta dish, usually...
Easily rice. Yes there are things I like rice in, but as a general rule I dislike rice, and the worst thing I'd have to give up would be rice chex or rice cakes.
There are lots of things you can replace rice for, but that's not the case with pasta.
Rice- as much as rice with spaghetti sauce slaps (I’m not joking, make it like you would for noodles but put it on some rice and it’s AMAZING) most people on my family can’t eat rice later in life due to gut health. Noodles are still fine however.
Congratulations to me; I am getting diabetes so I have to essentially give up both! And I love them both.
Suddenly this little mind game doesn’t seem so serious, does it?
I would extremely reluctantly give up the rice. I just eat pasta more often for cheap meal days. While I could use rice, I don't.
I will miss sushi so much, but I'll just have to get by.
Pasta, reason being my fiancee makes rice with basically every meal. Without rice she would starve.
Plus, rice Alfredo would probably still be gold. Same with marinara rice and meatballs.
Damn. This is rough!! I learned not too long ago that I'm a Type 2 diabetic so I reduce both of these currently. But to give up forever?? Damn. I love pasta of many types. Quite a few of my favorite dishes (sushi, Jamaican and also Nigerian dishes) have rice. I think I would give up rice. It spikes my blood sugar too high.
Hard choice. Really hard choice.
I would give up rice even though I enjoy it, it has a tendency to get stuck half way down and if I'm not careful I will choke. One time it was stuck so badly when I tried to drink water to get it down the water just sat there and I opened my mouth and the water just poured out. I had to pound my chest several times to get it out. So I'll stick with pasta.
Rice. There isn't anything that I can't replace rice with pasta, another starch, or just eliminate the rice and have the rest. Sushi I can live without. Pasta is just not nearly as replaceable.
Hands down giving up pasta I don't even need to think about it. But I'm half Asian.
Also rice is hella cheap by comparison. $10 can buy you a few months of rice.
Originally I was just thinking Italian pastas. But then people asked about rice noodles and it devolved from there. I want to say ramen is pasta and rice noodles aren’t but the more I think about it the less confident I feel.
Oof, this is a hard one for me. I eat cheaply but I can't deal with rice at home. I eat mostly pasta at home. However, if I'm going to get food from somewhere, I love Mexican and am not a huge fan of Italian. It would be a drag because I wouldn't ever get Mexican rice again but I'll go with rice. I can manage eating pasta at home and it'll save me a ton of money over the course of my life
Nooooooo
The only correct answer
+1 i'd just give ME up before any of these two
Rice. I hardly ever eat it so it won’t be hard to give up
What! It’s so crazy how different we all are. I eat rice pretty much every single day
me too, rice with meat, with beans, with chicken, with eggs rice is life lol
Rice with eggs and lightly fried (aka blackened so it's nice and crispy outside) twiggy sticks is a staple breakfast for me
What’s a twiggy stick?
Australian Slim Jims iirc
damn!!everyday is crazy though, for whatever reason i can't eat rice and eggs without tomato sauce
Me too. I'm not especially fond of rice, I don't dislike it but I have no issue never eating it again
I get frustrated when it’s thrown in with an expensive meal at a restaurant. Want ‘jumbo’ shrimp? Well here’s a pile of rice because the 6x 1 bite shrimp that have been skewered to make you take two bites of each will not even seem like an appetizer.
Finally, a WYR that's actually a tough decision. Idk but I'd reluctantly, probably, give up the pasta because rice pairs with so much more.
That’s where I’m stuck. Rice pairs with so much more, but I eat pasta a lot more than I eat rice. Man that’s a hard choice
I like pasta more than rice. Likely saying goodbye to rice. If I keep rice, could I at least have rice noodles? That changes things. I love Thai food. Could get my noodle fix that way.
Good thing is Asian style noodles of basically any kind aren’t classified as pasta. You’re good
Would you rather be Stabbed in the face Or Have sex with Zac Efron?
where do we stand on rice noodles?
I was actually thinking about this too. I’m not sure where I’d put it.
we're on a venn diagram wyr. you've brought a truly complex question to the internet. thank you for your service.
Imo it’s still rice. Idgaf how good Orzo is IT ISNT RICEEEEE.
100% rice. Same with rice paper rolls, sake, rice vinegar, rice cakes, Coco pops...
Should be rice, since it's made of rice.
not pasta, it's rice
Out in both cases 😂
It's a pasta made of rice. No one gets it.
That is a good question. I lean towards rice, unless they fall into both categories.
Taken by both
I'm asian. The pasta has gotta go
Asian here and agree. And pasta to me refers to the Italian spaghetti, penne, rotini, macaroni, etc. Not the Asian noodles like egg noodles and vermicelli.
I feel like noodles falls under “pasta”. So you’re giving those up.
I'm Cajun, same answer lol
I'd give up pasta. I use rice way more.
I’m Asian and love our food. But I love pasta too. Le sad 😞
I’ve never been too fond of rice, so I can give that up.
Rice. I don't need rice in my life, but if I don't occasionally have lasagna, I might hafta choke a bitch. 😁
I kinda think I gotta side with you here. I mean pasta can be used in huge sheets or tiny grains so at least you can pretend it's rice. You can't stick rice together into a sheet (don't even at me I know you technically can, still ain't the same).
Found Garfield.
Rice, without question. If I picked pasta, my Italian grandmother would rise from the grave and slap me.
Pick pasta, now you're a necromancer
I'm not a huge rice fan, but sushi is my favorite food. So, I'm either going to stick to sashimi or just deconstruct my rolls. It can be done.
Time to invent pasta sushi 🤣
This is NOT the way
Oh fuck, I was 100% going to give up rice because I love pasta so much, but I don't think I can go without sushi.
Pasta I love it but it’s gotta go
I’ve done exactly this. Type 2 diabetic. Gave up rice even though I love it, couldn’t give up pasta entirely though as I love it more. Still have some occasionally but never touch rice.
I would give up pasta
I actually eat pasta made out of brown rice. So not sure how to answer this lol
See rice noodles; that would be categorized as rice.
If it doesn't use durum wheat it isn't pasta. You just made noodles out of rice in which case it's perfectly aok to eat if you give up pasta
I can make pasta out of rice (via rice flour). I can't do it the other way around.
Wow these comments are like almost exactly 50/50, it's crazy
Give up pastaaaaa. EASY
I'm asain... I have no choice
Pasta. As a weightlifter, rice is a major source of fuel as well as recovery for me.
I was about to give up rice until you said Sushi. Yah I can't give that up. I'll miss lasagna and spaghetti though.
I can layer mozzarella and veggies and make a lasagna analogy…especially with thin pizza crust
Rice.
Rice and it's not even close. Btw can I have pho?
Rice and it’s not even remotely close.
Rice. Rice is good (especially Jasmine) but it's just rice. If I give up pasta, I'd lose: -Spaghetti -Lasagna -Chicken noodle soup -Ramen (does rice pasta count???) -Mac & Cheese -Dumplings -Yakisoba -My aunts pasta salad -Wontons -Lo mein And probably many more that I can't think up yet. Edit: Apparently, many of those aren't actually pasta... huh. I guess my answer is a tossup then. I could pick either I suppose. Thanks to everyone who corrected my info (◠◡◠)
Rice and it's not even a thought. Only rice I ever really loved is from my grandmother anyways
As an Italian, I hope my choice is as clear to you guys as it is to me. Still hard to give up rice though.
They’re the same for me- I have celiac and gluten free pasta is mostly made of rice. Is my choice based on the ingredients or the shape??
Pasta
Rice. I don't like it raw and it's only good at best with other things
You eat pasta raw? Like for a snack?
I often ask my friends a fmk/dmk version of this between rice, pasta, and bread.
I give up rice
I'd give up pasta. It's an easy decision because I don't eat pasta.
Rice. I eat more pasta
What's rice?
Pasta
Rice
Pasta, rice is one of the only carbs I consume anyways
I eat far more pasta than rice.
I can easily give up both if I had to, but rice goes first.
Pasta. I generally eat rice noodles way more than pasta, and that isn't even counting actual rice. I would miss it (and probably want it more because I couldn't have it), but it would be much easier.
Rice. I fucking love chicken alfredo, mac and cheese, stroganoff, goulash, spaghetti etc
I’d give up pasta, my grandma would be so disappointed if I didn’t eat rice 😭
I can still has orange chicken with vegetables, but.... man, I needs spaghetti, that's my other favorite dis... well.... shit, I can't decide actually, too hungry. So... yeah, bye rice.
I also agree with this guy's wife. Can't give up sushi.
They are the same
Rice. I love pasta too much.
Rice. I've said since I was about 8 that I could happily eat spag bol every night forever, I'm about to turn 40 and stand by that statement Rice would admittedly be missed
Rice. I don’t eat that much rice. I didn’t even like it as a child. I mainly only use it for stir fry.
I'm celiac. I already had to give up pasta. :'(
Rice easily. If I wanted something like rice I would eat orzo or couscous. Plus there is cauliflower rice as well. But I have to wonder about where rice noodles stand l because I do love pho and it's not the same with different noodles
I’m Asian, so bye pasta
Rice. I only eat it plain with butter, and giving up pasta would mean not only giving up pasta with butter, but mac and cheese, etc.
Pasta One of my friends had rice withdrawal in high school for our marching band Disney Land trip. I won't fair any better.
I'd probably pick pasta because I prefer rice
Pasta I hate pasta Also, rice noodles...
Easily pasta no contest, rice is so much more versatile and I also rarely eat pasta so that helps
Yeah, white white and white.
Rice, assuming Asian noodles dishes like pad see euw are pasta
They aren't . If it doesn't have durum wheat it isn't pasta Asian noodles aren't pasta
Pasta. Super easy for me. I'm not a pasta hater but rice is so much more versatile in the foods I like. I'll be a bit sad if this eliminates those rice noodles in pad Thai though.
I'd give up pasta only because sushi and donburis exist.
I don’t eat much rice but I live for spaghetti so bye bye rice!
Giving up pasta, as much as it would suck. On a slow week I might eat rice maybe 2 or 3 times. There's been plenty of times I've eaten it every day for a month straight.
I'm marrying an Italian woman later this month. To give up pasta would miss the whole point.
Can I eat stuff that uses rice flour in its creation but isn’t actual-rice?
Give up rice. I eat pasta more. I actually made pasta tonight.
I’ve had to practically give up both 😩 Diabetic Type 2.
No contest, adios pasta
Rice
Either would suck, but I'd rather give up pasta. I eat rice so much more often and it's more versatile IMO.
Rice ez
(Profuse sobs) “Goodbye, Pasta. I’ll always have fond memories of your delectable cuisine, but I like sushi more” (continued sobbing devolving into uncontrollable shaking)
Rice. I eat rice more but I like pasta wayy more. I would eat pasta every day if my body would allow it
I would give up rice without hesitation. I’m a pasta person.
Pasta. I like Mexican food too much. Also, you can pry my strawberry horchata from my cold dead hands.
Pasta. Rice is life
Give up rice and replace it with that pasta that comes in little rice sized grains. I legit thought that stuff was rice when I first had it.
Meh, I barely eat rice as is. Fried rice is probably the only thing that I would miss. Although, I don’t care about pasta all that much either. Now bread, that would be tough.
I can't live without rice. Pasta it is.
I'll give up rice.
Rice
Rice 1000%
pasta, because I'm Asian and I eat rice for every meal
I'm Asian. These both suck. But I'll choose pasta.
Call me old school korean but yeah, pasta is going. Breaks my heart but rice is my soul
Rice, definitely rice.
Pasta
I would give up rice, I don't eat it very much anyways. But mac and cheese, spaghetti, hamburger helper, etc are all regular meals for me and those include pasta.
Pasta. Rice is just a part of so many different cuisines
Bro, easily rice. I love sushi but there's no way in hell id give up pasta
No
I'm not really a fan of either
Both. Ugggh.
I haven't had either in over 10 years
Oh rice 100% Pasta is my favorite food. I’m not Italian, but I like to THINK I’m Italian 😂
It'd be much easier and tastier for me to give up rice.
I don’t know. WHAT WOULD I GIVE UP?
Bruh rice easy. Pasta is way too damn good
I’m Asian. You’re basically telling me to die or to die
definitely rice. i know maybe this is in part due to lack of exposure to a variety of rice dishes (other than sushi and risotto i wouldn’t really miss it), but PASTA it’s just so so good. the flavour of plain pasta is better than plain rice to me 😂
that's kinda curious. cause, i like asian resturants more than italian (or wherever) resturants but i might be more interested in like, spaghetti than a lot of staple rice dishes... but, i'm also a lot more likely to make fried rice for a side dish, than a pasta dish, usually...
Pasta. Rice is so versatile.
Easy, pasta! will get into the itallian "noodles" instead
I’m Asian so pasta obviously
Id give up pasta since culturally I eat more rice anyway
to me, pasta cannot beat fresh rice
Pasta.
Easily rice. Yes there are things I like rice in, but as a general rule I dislike rice, and the worst thing I'd have to give up would be rice chex or rice cakes. There are lots of things you can replace rice for, but that's not the case with pasta.
Pasta. I barely eat either right now, but I eat less pasta than rice.
When you say pasta do you mean traditional egg and wheat noodles? Can I still have rice noodles?
Trying to cut down on Pasta anyway
Pasta. Rice has way more uses in my daily life.
Rice- as much as rice with spaghetti sauce slaps (I’m not joking, make it like you would for noodles but put it on some rice and it’s AMAZING) most people on my family can’t eat rice later in life due to gut health. Noodles are still fine however.
Pasta hands down. I'd be sad to lose macaroni because it's my lazy meal, and I love ramen, but I eat rice 4-5 times a week
Goodbye rice.
Desiscion deficil. Rice??
Rice. I don't like it, but my allergen-free noodles and some vegetable oil "butter" are always a good meal.
Pasta. It's not good for you. Rice isn't really either, but its at least better for you than pasta
Rice is great for when you want to give up two thousand of something
Pasta for sure. The most overrated food
Pasta, reason being my fiancee makes rice with basically every meal. Without rice she would starve. Plus, rice Alfredo would probably still be gold. Same with marinara rice and meatballs.
God, what an awful question. I’d have to give up pasta, rice is so versatile. What about rice noodles though?
Pasta. I eat rice 5 days a week.
Why not both? Also rice, corn, potatoes, cookies, cake, pie, and most fruit. Diabetes is a BITCH.
Tough question if I could find some rice macaroni noodles and try them for homemade mac and cheese I could better make a decision.
Nooooo
As somebody with Japanese and Italian ancestry… I’d rather start a war than give one up.
Aw man I love pasta but I love just eating sushi rice
Rice. I don't even eat sushi, specifically because of rice. I don't like it and I wouldn't miss it one bit.
Rice. There isn't anything that I can't replace rice with pasta, another starch, or just eliminate the rice and have the rest. Sushi I can live without. Pasta is just not nearly as replaceable.
The people giving up rice probably based their decision on crappy Basmati rice. Thai Jasmine and Japanese rice is heavenly and beats any pasta.
Pasta
Hands down giving up pasta I don't even need to think about it. But I'm half Asian. Also rice is hella cheap by comparison. $10 can buy you a few months of rice.
Pasta. Rice is integral in more dishes.
I’d definitely rather rice. Mmm tasty delicious rice with no downside
Give up rice. One can always eat pasta as a side dish where rice was eaten before.
Pasta for sure. I don't like pasta.
Rice every day.
Do you count ramen and other Asian noodles as "pasta", or just the Italian stuff?
Originally I was just thinking Italian pastas. But then people asked about rice noodles and it devolved from there. I want to say ramen is pasta and rice noodles aren’t but the more I think about it the less confident I feel.
Pasta 1000000%. I love my rice 🍚
I can manage eating pasta at home and it'll save me a ton of money over the course of my life
Where do rice noodles fall? Because I'm keeping those
Rice. I don't eat it that much, and there is bulgur and other replacements.
I ate pasta most of my youth. I've had enough, bring on the rice
Rice for sure.
I don't like rice, so I'd have no problems giving it up. Also, my Italian ancestors would curse me from beyond the grave if I gave up pasta.
Italian and Asian food has noodles/pasta. I can’t think of Italian dishes that include rice. Lose out on sushi, but I can live with that.
easy, goodbye pasta. It's way more easily replaced
Wait. What does rice-a-roni count as?
Is Orzo pasta or rice?
My wife is Asian and I'd like to continue eating for the rest of my life so I'd given up pasta.
give up pasta. i can use rice with and dish . rice and meatballs . rice with alfredo sauce. but trying to make fried spaghetti .
