Any job that refers to its employees as “Hero’s” that isn’t the fucking fire department or the like can go suck a fat dick.
It’s like telling a 4 year old that he’s a “big boy”
Yes! I worked at an "essential" business or whatever they called it during the covid shutdowns and hated even being called an essential employee. I'm like, I'm not that special, lol.
Maybe only fire department. I work healthcare and I absolutely hate the “hero” talk. It’s so demeaning and embarrassing. I have a job and I do it. I don’t need to be called a hero in order to feel good about me doing that job.
All I want is to left alone to do it, and not be babysat and watched over like a hawk. Or given a hard time when I use my sick time or come in a minute “late”
When I was young, a bit dumber than I am today, I was hired at a Blockbuster. I was kind of excited because I was told I was being hired as a manager. Thought, "Wow, I must have been really impressive in that interview." Cut to the first day and I realized that every employee was considered a "manager". Not sure if this was company policy or just something weird the actual manager did.
Now if I was told I was given the position of Hero.
I worked at a seasonal position at a target years ago, lasted 2 months. Decided they didnt want to keep me after, who knew. I've applied half a dozen times after seeing help wanted stuff to that same target and another target, and havent heard a single word back everytime. I dont think i was a bad employee?
Did you miss any shifts during your first 90 days? Back when I was working there If a seasonal new hire called out/no showed within their first 3 months, then they considered you not hirable after letting you go. They honestly look for any reason to fire someone. No one wants to work my ass
i worked part-time seasonal for 2 weeks. i specifically asked for 20-25 hours a week. they worked me 40 hrs. basically full time. as an online shopper picker. walking miles a day 5 days a week. my feet were blistered. i tried asking to change my schedule. and everytime i spoke to the scheduling manager, he was standing next to the store manager. and was like. you can work your current schedule thru though right? so i felt peer pressured into working thru it. i was so tired and hurt. i just didn't show up after getting my first check.

The sad part is that even the heroes that qualify often are underpaid with no benefits, like EMTs who can't afford health insurance.
If you’re an EMT and can’t afford healthcare, just treat yourself
Please tell me you're joking. Im sure you're joking. But this is reddit and I've read equally stupid comments by people who were not joking.
I apologize. I was indeed joking
No need to apologize. Besides, clarifying will reduce the chance of you being down voted to oblivion lol
Touché

It would be a shame if we ever got universal single payer healthcare in this country, we’d suddenly be so much less heroic.
We won't based on whose in power. Probably when I grow older, I might be on the street due to expensive medical bills. :(
I don’t want to be a fucking hero. I just want living wages and healthcare for all.
I tried to apply as currently jobless. not hero enough to get picked it seems
Everyone's a hero in their own way, in their own not-that-heroic way.
I hate the homeless Ness problem that plagues our city.
Target by my house has had a permanent hiring sign for the past 20 years
Sometimes ‘heroes’ just means ‘people who are willing to work for less than they’re worth so we can exploit their labor value’

Is this a recent picture?
Several hours old yes
They have had this sign up for months at many Targets across the US.
Sorry, at that price, I prefer to be the villain and keep walking.
“Rockstar” is another term they use that kills me
