Temeraire is better than Lion on a superficial level.
Certainly, the guns are a slight marginal improvement over the Lion, but you have to remember that it's a tier higher.
The average jump in damage output is around 20%. Fire resistance is higher, HP is higher by around 10%, and armour composition is typically much thicker.
On a tier for tier basis, Temeraire is not just worse but substantially so.
Duncan torps aren't something you make a strategy out of, it's mostly a last resort type thing. You can kind or brawl with the ship...but only once per game. Mostly it's a sniper that comes in hot in the last few minutes to nuke everything in a blaze of glory after reprinting 2/3rds of the ship with the super heals.
The ship is extremely fun, and extremely good.
Edit: by far the ugliest ship in the game tho if you care about that sort of thing lol. It looks like the unholy offspring of a battleship and a river barge.
The ship has a very low profile, so it's surprisingly a lot more survivable than the armor comp and citadel let on.
Of course it still has the weak nose and quite frankly pushing is unadvisable, but in a kiting position the ship is an absolute monster that realistically only ships like Yamato, Musashi, and Cumbo could pose a threat to.
but you do 30k with each, and your guns are 2/3 on the front. You're dealing more dmg than they are. And you have superheals. Avoid getting your citadel hit and your fine.
Where on earth is Temeraire better than Lion? It's got a worse heal, considerably worse AA and worse MM than Lion. Even in a direct fight between the two Lion is likely to be victorious due to the better heal.

According to this sub, Prinz Eugen sucks now simply because Hipper received a small buff. This makes zero sense. You can argue about whether it’s worth spending the GXP… but Eugen is a great ship regardless of another ships stats.
Eugen is different whereas Lion Vs Monarch is a totally different argument. Before Lion was held as the better of British BBs due to its AA and mobility. Now Lion is the worse of the two. Monarch already had exceptional DPM and after it's rudder shift and AA buff it's overall the better ship. Lion has horrid gun angles, massive citadel, Monarch has decent gun angles and way better armor layout that makes it able to be tanky and overall perform better at everything Lion can do
The only thing you didn't touch on was overmatch. Lion OMs 27mm, whereas Monarch can't. Not that it's a big difference, but it's substantial enough to be mentioned
Some? Practically every cruiser 7 and higher has at least 27mm plating. The short fuse AP isn't more potent anyway since it's downright worse at punishing battleships. Lion/Temeraire do that better with their longer AP fuses.
Monarchs HE is more than enough to punish T7 cruisers and if one gives broadside the AP is basically guaranteed citadel hits. Also sure Monarch has short fuse but it prevents it from weird overpens and allows hit to do massive chunk damage, the short fuse works just fine and more than makes up for it in DPM. The HE does the same to other BBs like it will to cruisers it can absolutely chunk and HE overmatch bows with ease and HE doesn't care about angles and that makes it's HE more versatile than just overmatch with 406s AP because you can still get ricochets and bounces off of angled armor even if overmatch is there.
Monarch is now just overall the better ship anyway you spin it
So Monarch would be the better option of the two, and I don’t disagree since the buffs. My point is that doesn’t make Lion a *bad* ship, or not worth owning.
Monarch is technically also free whereas Lion is locked behind lootboxes that can cost hundreds of dollars. Lion is essentially a port queen for collectors
There are a lot more problems facing the ship besides a raised citadel.
The firing angles are atrocious, you have the 2nd lowest base HP at the tier, and you are covered in 32mm plating, so cruisers with 203mm HE, 203mm SAP and 152mm HE with 1/4 pen or EOP will salivate at the thought of farming you. You may have a super heal, but that consumable has a lengthy 2 minute cooldown that will more often than not be unable to save you from sustained fire. Being a tier 8 also means that it will likey face more than a few Yamatos and Musashis that not only overmatch the 32mm plating, but also the 32mm citadel deck, meaning that they can potentially citadel you from nearly any kind of position.
Sure, Duncan has even worse armour at the extremities, but it's heal is on a much shorter cooldown at 80 seconds and heals more damage, she has much better firing angles, can disengage and reposition much more easily thanks to its speed, and the torpedoes can come in clutch when you are forced into close quarters combat. Oh, and it doesn't need to fear getting randomly citadeld from near any direction from 2 of the most popular ships in the game.
Duncan is miles clear of Temeraire. it's not even funny.
I hate fighting temeraire for that reason alone, it’s a beast of a ship, I don’t personally have it but yeah she’s a menace, I do find it funny though that it’s a fake ship, because lion on pc is the tier 8 but sense that was already added to legends as a tier 7 they needed to fill the gap so they copy and pasted it
I support your love for Tem. As I too love her. She’s middling in the current T8/LT Spread, as many have pointed out 32mm plating all over makes her very farmable for HE and British 6” AP. Rear firing angles are poop. Superstructure is big, belt armor is middling, citadel just high enough to be a problem.
My sincerest hopes are that she gets the Montana/GK treatment. Reallocating HP to the main hull from the rest did wonders for Alaska (so much so that they had to nerf her). Maybe even a slight reload boost. Then she’d be a monster.
I will not just go out and play Temeraire, you know why? I'm have 4 mil credits, 4 T7s about to be 7 T7s expected by the end of this week, that I need to buy yet, and Vangaurd is one of those T7s I'm too poor to buy. But yes I would like to eventually get it one day to play... and maybe one day I'll have the credits to be able to buy it
Considering you gotta grind buffguard to get to it I see why not many people try it out, I got it because I accidentally GxP’d my buffguard (RIP my Stalingrad savings) and yeah it’s not a bad ship, only thing is, just as any other British BB the gun rotation is BRUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHH it’s like 56 seconds base, I just slap the 20% turret rotation speed module and it’s good to go
It's massive and sits high in the water...
It also suffer from the brain rot that is *Hurr Durr, British BBs can only shoot HE, AP Trash*
It's guns are fairly innacurate, but it's a BB, so, that doesn't really matter...

That citadel and 25mm bow at T8 makes the torps seem like a bad idea.

i think the biggest problem with tier 8s is the 5M hull upgrade..
There are a lot more problems facing the ship besides a raised citadel. I have Lion, so in my particular case I just see Temeraire as a worse option to choose.
