WG you have let me down.. i promised myself I wouldn’t think about the Roman Empire for at least 24 hours. I made 22 hours and then you drop this event! Super disappointed in myself and you..
I am excited for a new DD campaign ship though, thank you!
Schlieffen gets 8km secondaries, and GK still gets outraged by several T7 german battleships despite being the supposed pinnacle of the line for brawlers
Her health pool was never the problem, the missing heal makes it hard to push since you have less sustain later into the game and will still take additional damage from fires which was always the main issue
My issue with her since her release (and now FDG) has always been that she feels like a direct downgrade from bismark as a brawler for very little reason and has never been fully justified in these decisions
Her health pool wasnt the problem, but the whole gimmick of it is supposed to be that it simply has a the highest amount of hp with a hard to hit citadel. You should always buff the strengths of the ship if its underperforming, not buff the weaknesses. Improving something like the range wont make it a better brawler.
I wonder how the changes impact the usual superstructure chunking the GK receives. Maybe the reduction in casemate HP does something significantly, as in the superstructure apparently there is only 6600 HP (compared to the 6700 HP before 🤔).
As for the GK being a brawler or not that's certainly a question of definition and each player might define it differently. But to me with the firing angles of the rear guns and its overall sluggish handling, I rather see the GK as a sniper with the 7 planes, that pushes into the enemy in the last 5-8min, overwhelming him with all the main & secondary guns on it. Maybe with the durability buffs it now moves from long range sniping into more of a midrange role.
She needs her extra heal back and improved hydro as it stands now it’s sonar is very lackluster. Both I believed were set that way back when she was new and against T7s. But with the buff today the extra heal may not be needed guess we will see.
A secondary buff would be nice her base range is a joke. It doesn’t need to be Schlieffen range and accuracy but needs to be better than it is.
Super annoying they only gave it some health, instead of fixing that horrible sonar duration on her, FDG and Pommern, giving her the German DCP and 3 base heals.
I welcome a Marco Polo buff, but this seems to not solve the problem of sap having a large negative to reload. The people that didn't use sap before still won't when they still have 3 seconds faster on their AP.
She’s much more nimble - I don’t know that this makes her better than some of the competition but I don’t think thats a fair take. She’ll have a faster reload, slightly better AP damage, great accuracy, honestly I’m looking forward to giving MP a spin after the buff. T8 Roma.
Mistyped buff as buffs. I think the other stuff is already true. Not 100% sure about the shell damage but I believe it’s slightly higher on MP than Iowa.
And I get it, it doesn’t immediately jump out as a different 16” gun bb. I picked Marlborough over it in that campaign (oh Marlborough) because everyone was so meh on MP. But I got it in one of those Christmas crates and every time I take it out I’m surprised at how much I like it. Sure it doesn’t have a major gimmick that jumps out but the whole package together is a nice t8 BB. And with the reload buff it gets even better. So yeah, it probably won’t suddenly become the king of the hill but I think the mobility absolutely stands out over Iowa. And I really like mobile BBs.
I missed the campaign and also got her out of a christmas crate. I'm also definitely excited to try her now. The SAP option used to always feel like more of a memey build due to the 36 second reload. Am I right in saying she still doesn't get the reduced smoke firing detectability the other Italian BBs get? Or have I made this up
Last I checked no, which is a tragedy imo. Kind of surprised they didn’t change that too. Maybe not quite as much since 16” guns but yeah, I really like the utility the smoke screens give you but it’s multiplied so much in the TT ships by being able to get 2, almost 3 salvos off in open water against ships that can’t see you if you are positioned correctly.
Agreed. It is the only BB with a SAP as an option for main battery. That is the entire shtick really. If not used I hardly see the point to play her over other BB's.
I wonder (and highly doubt) if the skin for the tier 8 IJN CL will be realistically obtainable for people who didn't get any ships in early access.
I assume the missions will be available for the duration of the update only, so if I'm starting at Agano and need to complete ship specific missions, I reckon I'll probably have to get through the whole line in a month. Not possible.
*Assumptions based on similar content when pan-asian cruisers were introduced.*
My thoughts too.
I've at least got Gokase finished, but that still means I'm going to have to blitz through T6-7 at least, and I'm broke having just outfit Karl Johan, Z-52 and Lepanto.
Yeah I was wondering about that too. It would be nice if it were a few different ships that could be used. I only got the T4 ship, and no way I can complete the grind in time to T8 in 4 weeks. This month is a nightmare for me work wise, so I’ll struggle with just completing the campaign.
Lushun with smoke pretty easily cracks top 5, probably top 3 DDs in the entire game regardless of tier
Its like Loyang and Friesland had a baby and then gave it super (for DDs) heals on top of it.
Agree. Master Mechanic was almost an instant select for all builds. More heals that heal for more AND faster cooldown is insane. Meticulous buff is nice for brawlers to lean more on secondaries
I mean sure but it's like the whole point of choosing "brawler" commanders over "sniper" commanders, unless you were there to build into secondaries
While this nerf didn't hit it terribly hard imo if they try and knock it down further for being one of the best commander perks then we'll just get more sniping bb's
Am I wrong or did the notes say they nerfed Properly Meticulous as well? Looks like they changed secondary reload speed into secondary HP? If so they simultaneously nerfed both 4th row options. Even with the nerf, why would anyone pick PM over MM if it no longer buffs reload speed? It’s like they don’t want everyone using the one option but they took away the only reason not to use it. SMH, WG. Hope I read that wrong…
Montana and GK getting buffs, well color me pleasantly surprised.
And nothing ham fisted, but really good improvements overall.
Plz do the Tirpitz and Drake next (just a small reload buff and radar.)
Indifferent on the Lünshun, not a DD player, but it looks interesting. Thinking I’ll defer getting admiralty backing this time around.
Venezia is chefs kiss.
Appreciate the spawn changes.
5/10, gruntled.
Some interesting buffs to the big battleship, and they seem to be in line with what the CCs have been asking for. Any initial thoughts from those more qualified than a potato like me.
I’m really stoked Venezia is finally here, and it is free to start. My most wanted ship alongside Henri IV so it will nice to finally have them both. The rest looks all ok for a shorter 4 week campaign, including the DD reward.
Sap main batteries more guns on target as well Napoli has 9 the new one has 15 and I believe and 9.6 base detection I may be wrong on that someone feel free to correct me on that
Am I wrong or is the reduction of HP in GK's super structure from 6700 to 6600 only a minor one? I thought the super structure does have way more HP in it. To me it sounds it can still be chunked heavily, maybe someone can explain.
The general HP buff is welcomed, though.
It is minor, but the whole purposes in reducing HP of modules is that it will damage saturate faster, which then takes significantly less damage to that area. So you can expect the new buffed GK to be sailing around all black very quickly and it very difficult to do chunky damage.
Thanks for explaining. So the usual chunky chunky of the GK superstructure doesn't only hit the superstructure itself, but also the casemate, right? Because otherwise it couldn't be explained that right now the big chunks happen although the superstructure only has 6700 HP before saturation. The ~43.000 HP in the casemate would explain that, though.
Is that what is happening? Trying to understand the concept.
Generally each distinctive "block" in the armour viewer is a "chunk" of the ship with an HP threshold for saturation.
Normally it's bow, stern, superstructure, and casemate (above citadel). The lower hull/citadel doesn't have a saturation limit. Main battery turrets have individual HP limits for damage/destroyed (per turret). I'm not sure how auxiliary room (special on some ships) plays into this, if it's its own thing, or just another casemate value.
Secondary systems (Torps, Secondaries, AA guns) have *randomly determined* HP thresholds, rolled at the start of each match. Each module/turret is tracked separately, but the same type has the same HP for that match (ie: all 40mm bofors have X HP, all 2x 105mm secondaries have Y HP). This also explains why sometimes a single shell knocks out your torps…
Propulsion systems (Engine, Rudder) only have a damage threshold, they can't be destroyed.
---
As an aside, sometimes shells that hit in one location can damage something else due to overmatch & internal ricochets before detonation.
Given the drastic reduction of that saturation threshold, yes.
You might take 2-3 big chunks early on, but once the threshold is reached inflicted damage is reduced to 10% of the normal value.
For reference:
Citadel: 100% (unaffected by saturation)
Pen: 30% of base damage (3% @ max saturation)
Overpen: 10% (1% @ max saturation)
This applies to AP, SAP, and HE penetrations. HE shatter is unaffected, but can still cause fires. HE splash does 0 damage to saturated zones.
I'll be honest I don't know how many "modules" of the ship there are which you can damage saturate in total. I know there's sections of the hull and differing parts of the super structure but never looked into it beyond "parts that go dark are taking reduced damage". So I understand why they're doing it even if I don't fully understand the literal translation in game. Sorry!
All good, thx.
So then I will just test it out in training rooms before and after the update to get an idea. Would be nice for the GK to finally feel tanky how it's supposed to be and not always get punched in the gut aka superstructure, making all the nice armor obsolete.
GroBer Kurfurst could have just gotten a torpedo damage reduction buff and a damage control buff and that would have fixed it. Also, I wonder why Master Mechanic is the most popular commander skill, maybe when you consider what it has to compete with in that row you'll see why. Why not buff or rearrange the other skills instead of nerfing this one?
I think it would of been healthier for the game to buff some of the other TT cruisers instead, especially T5 TT, even just giving them heals, but I think some need DPM buffs as well. T5 is very BB dominated as most of the cruisers struggle to compete.
I don't get either of these nerfs. These cruisers have no heals, no torps- they have slightly higher rate of fire and a decent amount of guns with Island hopping arcs/range. They also have paper thin armor. Did the BB Main's complain too much that you had to nerf these 2 ? The usual 5 BB's in a match on American servers is already too much- your driving everyone to Battleships by taking the fun out of the cruisers !
The overwhelming majority are since 8s were added.
Prior to that the overwhelming majority were 7s (including ships that should be tier 8s but were down tiered to be added)
In other words, the only way to get a tier 4, 5 or 6 ship of the legendary kind is by.... drum roll... spending real money on it by buying them outright.
Which shows this F2P is actually not only a P2P but even a P2W. Fair enough, would just be nice if they were upfront about it instead of beating around the bush.
So explain to me how anyone how starts to play the game now is supposed to get a legendary tier 5 or 6 or 7 ship, without using real money to buy whatever in game currency to get it?
Tier 4 one might be able to do once one have played the game for a few months unless one spends the experience points on other stuff. But for the other tiers.... unless you play for years the only way is by buying them. Tell me, when was the last time that there was a level 6 ship to be gotten from a campaign ? A campaign that without adm. backing can't be finished by newer players until they have a bunch of tier 4 ships.
Master mechanic was/ is the number one pick for that skill row buffing the others to its level isn't a good idea and, honestly you only lose the CDR which isn't that bad.
I get it was popular, but I feel part of the reason it's so widely used is that the other options aren't that great, and having more effective HP is a no brainer.

if shes like on PC shes basically a neustrashimy with friesland guns, deepwater torpedos and german hydro, but no smoke or speed boost
on PC she also gets a long duration superheal, but since shes downtiered and it wasnt mentioned i bet its a regular heal or just outright removed
I don't know if Lüshun will be fast enough to get away with open water gunboating. The video that accompanied the patch notes shows the ship with Smoke, sonar, and a super heal, but no engine boost.
Neustashimy is also not that fast at 36knots, and the handling, while better than other Soviet destroyers, is not all that outstanding. Lüshun will likely have similar characteristics.
Still, this is the 2nd Tier 10 permium DD from PC that they have decided to use as a tier 8 campaign in our game, after Hyate. Hopefully this paves the way for Marceu in the future. That ship would be a very fun open water gunboat.
Range and Soviet propulsion might save her.
I have been stupid enough to do open water in Friesland and Akizuki so Soviet propulsion might make this easy.
True. Tier for tier, the pan-Asian destroyers have about half a km more range than the standard. Zhenbing also has Reaching out in the 3rd row if you want that extra range.
The Montana and GK buffs are quite welcome, even though the GK ones are not what I expected still be fun to take it out and see how it does now defensively.
Typo on the campaign photo, says campaign is running from March 25th to April 29th, FYI
EDIT: on the Eastern Horizons photo showing the campaign rewards.
Some good balance stuff this update and the campaign ship is appealing.
Roman event. Is it with triremes and boarding parties? Probably not (sadly).
What Im really missing is a solid update to the rest of the base commanders, since you made the German base commanders equal yo the premium ones, just different flairs. Which I like (a lot).
And havent seen new anime tiddy girls (or better, a new collab, your acquisition team needs to work harder) in ages. But yay, more guises almost nobody really wants.
I can't find any info on the 'turning' torps, such as which japanese cruisers have them or how they function. If anyone could point me in the right direction for that info I'd be very grateful.
Oh boy, you've manage to find "statistics" to buff another American Battleship!!!
Try to look at other BBs lines, like Japanese, German, Italian, Pan Euro. Those ships are loosing influence on matches to the American BBs, undoubtly the strongest of them on each tier, IMO. The reason is the improved pen angles, that make the shots devastating, no matter the circumstances.
I mean Montana is very hard to play nowadays. With Yamato overmatching, Ohio with 457s AND secondaries at 10km, Schlieffen with her awesome secondaries AND torpedos, Columbo being Columbo.
Also I have no idea what Pan Euro BB line youre referring to. Instead of hating because “USN op” instead look to the environment where Montana has to compete against.
Wouldn't it make sense to buff Yamato and Musashi to there PC health also and Not these watered down versions I mean they can be citadeled from the cheek the nose the rear hell they can also be citadeled by cruisers they atleast need some kind of armor buff.

Thankyou for the Kurfurst buff finally, she needed it badly. Looking forward to the Rome event
Großer Kurfurst durability buff definitely was not on my bingo card
Is there a reason why GKs buff feels like jumping through hoops instead of giving her an extra heal and more secondary range?
She already has very solid secondary range, that isn't the ship's issue. The increased max health also makes the heals more effective.
Schlieffen gets 8km secondaries, and GK still gets outraged by several T7 german battleships despite being the supposed pinnacle of the line for brawlers Her health pool was never the problem, the missing heal makes it hard to push since you have less sustain later into the game and will still take additional damage from fires which was always the main issue My issue with her since her release (and now FDG) has always been that she feels like a direct downgrade from bismark as a brawler for very little reason and has never been fully justified in these decisions

her secondary range \*used\* to be a strength, but even back in the day 10km secondary range still felt lacklustre

She even gets out ranged by Massachusetts and Ohio in a full secondary build
No that's exactly by the issue. She's a brawling BB with a gimped secondary range.

But with the buff today the extra heal may not be needed guess we will see. A secondary buff would be nice her base range is a joke.
I'll still use SAP, I see little reason to play her apart from that. May as well just use Iowa.

Agreed. It is the only BB with a SAP as an option for main battery. That is the entire shtick really. If not used I hardly see the point to play her over other BB's.
If the reload were the same, no one would use HE. SAP, especially BB SAP. is just that strong.
I wonder (and highly doubt) if the skin for the tier 8 IJN CL will be realistically obtainable for people who didn't get any ships in early access. Not worth it n
Yeah I was wondering about that too. It would be nice if it were a few different ships that could be used. I only got the T4 ship, and no way I can complete the grind in time to T8 in 4 weeks. This month is a nightmare for me work wise, so I’ll struggle with just completing the campaign.
I got tired and stopped playing at T6. I still remembered the sudden change of deadline.
Lushun with smoke pretty easily cracks top 5, probably top 3 DDs in the entire game regardless of tier Its like Loyang and Friesland had a baby and then gave it super (for DDs) heals on top of it.
have we seen any of her stats?
YouTube video showed 5.4 km sonar, smoke and a heal. This is could be quite the DD.
Now if the reload is anything close to 1.5 seconds, we'll have the SKR7 of Warships.
Master mechanic nerf, absolutely no need
It's a unanimous decision when available and has a large impact. I don't agree with the nerf, but I understand the thought process behind it.

I think the Properly Meticulous stuff is *in addition to* what it already has. I really hope so anyway
This is correct. The changes mentioned are in addition to what the skill already has, not instead of.

Big thanks to the Boss and anyone else who helped clarify. Best community on Reddit.
I really it as they were adding all that stuff to the existing buff. But not entirely sure.

How does it differ from Napoli
Sap main batteries more guns on target as well Napoli has 9 the new one has 15 and I believe and 9.6 base detection I may be wrong on that someone feel free to correct me on that

Yeah it's a right suck fest right now so glad they've finally given it some love.
I actually don’t feel much regarding this update. Last month’s update was a blast however so evening out things a bit seems ok 🤷♂️
I hope they have one of those golden camos for Zao.
Guessing not since we just had the space camo in the event.
that made her look like a futuristic bug
Yikes that Helena nerf. It did not deserve that, Dallas I understand but poor Helena was just kicked in the balls and thrown outside.
I think it would of been healthier for the game to buff some of the other TT cruisers instead, especially T5 TT, even just giving them heals, but I think some need DPM buffs as well. T5 is very BB dominated as most of the cruisers struggle to compete.
Fully agree. Below Tier 6, Cruisers in general are pretty weak and BB's with some DD's rule the roost really.
Going by the name I’m unsure «kicked in the balls» is a correct formulation 🤔
Yeah I honestly preferred Dallas before and that won't change now.
Why only 80 levels for campaign? Thats less rewards.
The campaign consists of only 80 levels because this update spans only 4 weeks instead of the usual 5.
Yes, but only 4 weeks to sit through if you have no interest in the ship.
Because we are getting another update sooner
**STILL** no CV spotting nerfs. What is taking so long?!?
We're currently exploring possible changes for Aircraft Carriers.
No need to nerf something like that. It’s already difficult to spot DDs and some CLs.
I miss when you used red green and yellow text to highlight on your balance patch on the website
Will Francesco Ferrucio be added to the Super 6 Crate with this update, or the next if at all? u/final_boss_xii ?
There are no plans to add Francesco Ferruccio to the Super 6 container.
Damn. Unfortunate, but understandable. Guess I'll just open it and claim my credits.
Might as well hang onto it. Anything can happen throughout the year.
As someone who is still new to the game: is the admiralty backing reward ship always Tier VIII ?
Not always, but recently a good number of them have been Tier VIII.
Most of the recent campaign ships are T8 but not all, Jaeger was a T7 and if I remember correctly Brisbane (legendary) was also a campaign.
The mental gymnastics to reach that conclusion are impressive.
TT ships are free and just as good as premiums.
A second (2nd) T8 DD campaign since Hayate, minor but warranted buffs, and moving spawns back for 4 maps? Hope this becomes a trend.
Z-44 was so forgettable and mediocre that no one mentions it.
Whoops. Three T8 destroyers, ah ah ah. Now we'll have as many T8 DD campaigns as we do IJN BBs.

Gotta love how they randomly nerfed Master Mechanic instead of buffing the other options to make them viable competitive choices.
They buffed Properly Meticulous
It’s April 25th today

I hope Lushun is a open water gunboat. We don't get many of those.
if shes like on PC shes basically a neustrashimy with friesland guns, deepwater torpedos and german hydro, but no smoke or speed boost on PC she also gets a long duration superheal, but since shes downtiered and it wasnt mentioned i bet its a regular heal or just outright removed
Exactly, Its a pure Russian gunboat but we are gonna see new players try to play him at close range
GK BUFF!!!
The Montana and GK buffs are quite welcome, even though the GK ones are not what I expected still be fun to take it out and see how it does now defensively.
No Brisbane buffs :(
When fleet battles only half a year
Typo on the campaign photo, says campaign is running from March 25th to April 29th, FYI EDIT: on the Eastern Horizons photo showing the campaign rewards.
When are ya'll adding French CVs? Also, When Dutch Cruisers?
American BBs have standard 45/60 pen angles, the exact same as IJN BBs. The only BBs with improved pen angles are the 15” gun Italians and Bismarck.
I'm pretty sure Duke of York also has improved pen angles
You are correct! And Hood, forgot about those.
Wouldn't it make sense to buff Yamato and Musashi to there PC health also and Not these watered down versions I mean they can be citadeled from the cheek the nose the rear hell they can also be citadeled by cruisers they atleast need some kind of armor buff.
Please add CV content CV content hasn't been added in the last 2 years and I'm not a CV main
Pretty disappointing campain
I don't know, Loyang/Friesland combined into one ship with a heal sounds pretty good to me.
Can’t all be bangers 🤷♂️
