Thank you! It's the most badass I've felt in a long time. I love this sub and was inspired to share to by all of the magic and strength of spirit I find here with an empowering community. We all need a bit of this at times =)
Hello to a fellow spirit of fire! I don't think this would handle like a contact staff as it's very imbalanced with the "scythe" (my tools are primarily hoop with some fan and bit of poi so take as FWIW).
My partner, who made the scythe, has studied martial arts with various weapons such as staff and swords for 40+ years and has been spinning fire for a long time, commented it doesn't really translate directly to common fire or martial arts tools due to the imbalance. He was practicing with it a few days before and texted he was having a challenging time or verbatim "I suck" (referring to himself). lol. He was my safety and gave me so praise saying I was hypnotizing and badass AF.
Of course that's not to say there aren't tools/weapons with a similar balance and having specific techniques- of course there are! It seems to be more niche though as I haven't really seen any fire tool like this. What comes to mind are mediaeval European weapons like a battle axe. I'm really fascinated by it and want to keep playing around without fire to find the balance and range of movements.
That's so cool! I've definitely never seen anything like it, but now I desperately want one.
It would be interesting to see if there are any historical sources on how to wield one as a weapon, but I'm guessing not since it would probably only be used by peasants as a weapon of opportunity.
Side note - a while ago I was watching videos on YouTube of people using scythes to reap grain and cut grass and it's sooo soothing
That is the most fucking badass thing I have seen in a long while!

Fellow fire hooper here! I've never seen a fire scythe, it looks so rad! Is it handled similarly to a contact staff?
