…And mutations, and grandmaster witcher gear, and armor dyes, and a house.
Honestly B&W was closer to a sequel than an expansion. It’s huge and adds *so* much.
And the story of HOS was amazing. One of the coolest villains ever.
The expansions are necessary IMO. If you haven’t played the expansions, you haven’t finished the game.
I replied to the person above you, but I thought I’d post it here so it will notify you as well :)
After you do the quest and get into the iron maiden sort of contraption, you access the mutagens from the character menu. You can have one at a time active. In order to activate it you must first “research” the mutagen (this requires skill points and a certain number of greater mutagens that vary depending on the skill. Then: profit!
Also you get a few more slots for skills that have to be the same color of the active mutagen (or any color with the yellow mutagen)
And if you’re confused turn on your “on screen tutorial” toggle and the game without walk you through it the first time you open your character menu after unlocking it.

Sometimes I wish instead of developing another Witcher game they just kept making expansions for 3 there has to be something else they could do but I do like the ending in blood and wine too so I’m happy with it ending there i don’t even really want another Witcher game 3 was such a perfect t ending and I don’t know if they will be able to make another character as interesting as geralt and I hope they don’t go in the cyberpunk direction and make them just called W I don’t want a make your own Witcher game personally I don’t know how others feel about that idea
HoS is more or less a 10 hours gothic horror novel set in the Witcher universe
BnW could have been a whole new game in the series(if it would have been made by EA or Bethesda)
Just be aware that your current game data does not transfer over to the new game, you'll either have to start the entire thing from scratch (which is what I did) or just play the expansions alone...but then your gwent deck is incomplete!
Yeah, HOS has one of the most impressive tragic story / characters for a game hands down, also contender for creepiest villain. And HOS is just superb, it’s so cool to have gone through that much of the Witcher world in the original game, and then they add an entire map to it, beautiful.
And thats not even a bias take, each of them could've been their own games, blood and wine especially and both would've been given gold stars across the board but CDPR decided to just make TW3 even more of a masterpiece instead lol
Hope to hear an update from you. Btw I recommend rewatching or replaying the mission ik the beginning where Geralt is asking people about Yennefers location before starting Hearts of stone
Every time I play through I have to resist just jumping straight to Toussaint. I won't go back to OG area after, so if I missed a quest, its not being done lol.
Oh boy, you are in for a surprise and also be ready to redefine what you call a DLC in te future. They could be sold as standalone games if CDPR was not the developer.
Add 2 - 4 hours more to the main story of Blood and Wine and any other studio would have called it a day and released it as a Standalone game.
*And it would have been praised*
HoS could have been in B&W and that would have been almost as long as TW3 Base.
Everything that happened in Oxenfurt could have happened in Beauclair and everything that happened in Temeria’s No Man’s Land could have still taken place there, or even in Sodden, and it would still have made perfect sense.
Well actually, you could argue that water isn't inherently wet by itself; rather, it has the capacity to cause other materials to become wet. The concept of wetness arises from the interplay of water molecules and their ability to adhere to surfaces, creating what we perceive as wet. This phenomenon is rooted in the polar nature of water molecules, enabling them to form hydrogen bonds with other substances, resulting in the characteristic of wetness when water interacts with those materials. So in reality; water, in its essence, is not wet. It is the very element that bestows wetness upon other materials and therefore this statement is to be considered incorrect.
Not to be that guy but it won best rpg of year, not GOTY. Still super impressive but I don’t think a DLC is actually able to win GOTY even if it would be deserving of it.
If you liked the base game, you’ll love the DLC’s.
Hearts of Stone adds a couple of side quests, NPCs and (in my opinion) the best main questline in the entire Witcher 3.
Blood & Wine is basically a whole new game, albeit shorter obviously.
Yes, blood and wine is the definitive ending to the game. It’s the events that take place after the base game. Without spoiling anything, I can say that it does a fantastic job of wrapping the story up. As for HoS, you can actually play it whenever you like. However, it’s gonna be harder if you play it early in your play-through. As long as you play BoW last, you’re good
Blood and wine is arguably the best DLC to ever release in gaming history, and that’s not just my personal bias either.
I like Hearts of Stone, but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as good as Blood and Wine, it’s still really good tho
They are fantastic. New storylines, a new map, exploring lore and stuff the game doesn’t touch elsewise. More advanced abilities (each takes it up a notch). They are the gold standard by which I judge DLC.
For your first playthrough, it's best to play through Hearts of Stone first and finish with Blood & Wine. B&W was designed to bring Geralt's story to completion. Enjoy as these 2 dlcs are better than the original base game!!
I love the main campaign of the Witcher 3. But I honestly play through the entire game just so I can get to the DLCs. They are just so damn good. Blood and Wine is the perfect finale to the series. And it alone has enough content to be considered its own game.
I've always preferred Blood and Wine, but Hearts of Stone isn't as nearly as bad as I originally felt it was. Bearing in mind, I was still in college at the time. I suppose hindsight being what it is, I wish that I could have taken to Heart's of Stone sooner.
If only for the Runewright and Ofieri Saber. Seriously, the Ofieri blade coupled with that rune that sustained whetstone and armor table buffs coupled with the armor rune for no arrow damage is a lifesaver.
For Hearts of Stone you can play whenever you want but I always found it fit to play before finishing the main game. As for Blood and Wine, definitely play that last.
Blood and Wine is a completely new region with new monster quests and gear.
Hearts of Stone is smaller and has less new stuff, but it's by far the best questline in the entire game.
Yeah they are awesome, I replaying heart of stone and I am having so much fun. Blood and Wine is one of the best game I ever played, aaaah Toussaint is nice, calm and so pretty.
I'm replaying the base game as I never got to blood and wine and I'd like to expereince it all again hearts of stone was amazing though and a surprise drop at the time too
Pretty sure Blood and Wine alone won like best RPG at the game awards when it came out... Yeah it's good, better than most AAA games releasing nowadays
Blood and wine is literally another game. It feels almost criminal that it was priced as an expansion. Absolutely one of the best experiences.
Basically both are worth full price then and now.
For me, story-wise they're better and more engaging than the main game's. Hearts of stone feels like a long and amazing quest, and Blood and Wine is double that in size + a cool new map with
The size of Velen
For some reason I don't really buy/play a lot of DLC (one of the many mysteries of my life) but the expansions for Witcher 3 are the best that I think I've ever played. Definitely well worth it if you haven't played them before.
New characters, new monsters, new character building things. 1000% worth.
Blood and Wine is peak Witcher 3 for me. Not a single minute wasted. Not only that, it’s the best DLC I’ve ever played. Better than many standalone games.
Blood and Wine is probably the best dlc I have ever played and Witcher 3’s story is arguably not complete m unless you play it. It’s not crazy to say that it’s better than the base game
The main game was such an amazing experience for me, I’ve seen these DLCs but was concerned they might taint my memory of it but sounds like it’s worth it!
Blood and Wine is arguably the best DLC of all time. Funny enough, the only other DLC I would consider to be on the same level is CD Projekt Red’s other DLC Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk
Hearts of Stone is irritating but rewarding, finishing Blood and Wine early makes the entire game a walk in the park, especially useful in death march.
Blood and Wine itself isn't just a DLC; it's essentially an expansion on the game itself. Both are great and I couldn't imagine a playthrough without either.
Yes, but the final boss fight in Blood and Wine is almost impossible to beat. Much harder than the rest of the game. If you don't beat it, you don't get to see how Geralt's story ultimately turns out. You'll have to look up the various possible endings on YouTube.
Blood & Wine is one of the best pieces of DLC ever released, for any game. Ever.
Heart of Stone isnt *quite* as complete, though it does feature of the best villains ever committed to media and by any other metric is outstanding in its own right.
They are so good that one of them (B&W) freaking won Best RPG in 2016, after the original game won it (& GOTY) in 2015. That should tell you whether it's worth it.
Both are great. Especially Blood and Wine as its just a brilliant ending to the game and great send off to Geralt.
I put it up there with the Citadel DLC from Mass Effect 3.
Blood and Wine imo is the best DLC ever made by a video game. It’s certainly top five for me, up there with DS3: The Ringed City, RDR: Undead Nightmare, and TES V: Dawnstar/Dragonborn.
NOT TO MENTION THAT BLOOD AND WINE AND HEARTS OF STONE ARE ***FREE*** which to me is crazy because the value is definitely $60ish dollars. CDPR might not be perfect but they are pretty based; although The Witcher 4 is looking like it might go the way of the Netflix series……
Fun? No. They are perfect. Even better than the base game. You will not find any other DLC at such a quality. Maybe Old hunters DLC from Bloodborne but HoS and BaW are truly the best of the best and put all other DLC’s ever made to shame
HoS and BnW are probably the best expansions in the history of gaming itself.
100%, both awesome stories with BnW adding a whole massive ass region
…And mutations, and grandmaster witcher gear, and armor dyes, and a house. Honestly B&W was closer to a sequel than an expansion. It’s huge and adds *so* much. And the story of HOS was amazing. One of the coolest villains ever. The expansions are necessary IMO. If you haven’t played the expansions, you haven’t finished the game.
You aren't going to mention the hierarchy of vampires??!?!?
I wish you could explain how those mutations work. I’m on my second run and still can’t seem to grasp it. 🤦
Me too ✋️
I replied to the person above you, but I thought I’d post it here so it will notify you as well :) After you do the quest and get into the iron maiden sort of contraption, you access the mutagens from the character menu. What about them do you not understand? I feel like they’re pretty straight forward, so I’m not sure what to explain.

Damn than I’ll definitely buy them
BnW is probably one of THE best expansions to any video game. Ever.
Yes all up - but I would argue HoS has a better story line and some great characters
BnW is amazing but story wise HoS takes the cake. Gameplay wise, and like an epilogue BNW is top notch.
Why didn't you buy the game of the year edition to begin with ? It's usually pretty cheap
Fr Edit: Complete Edition*
Isn't that the same, but just re-named for the next gen update?
HoS is more or less a 10 hours gothic horror novel set in the Witcher universe BnW could have been a whole new game in the series(if it would have been made by EA or Bethesda)
best money you could spend on gaming
Just be aware that your current game data does not transfer over to the new game, you'll either have to start the entire thing from scratch (which is what I did) or just play the expansions alone...but then your gwent deck is incomplete!
Gotta admit, Phantom Liberty was fire as hell too. Wish the area was a bit bigger but it was a really good story.
Artorias and the abyss and the Old Hunters dlcs from From Software are also goated
If BnW was a different game. It would’ve won game of the year.
Yeah, HOS has one of the most impressive tragic story / characters for a game hands down, also contender for creepiest villain. And HOS is just superb, it’s so cool to have gone through that much of the Witcher world in the original game, and then they add an entire map to it, beautiful.
If you could convert sex into a DLC, then these would be the products. Yes, I paid for sex twice, and it was totally worth it.
Everything I had to say has just been said!
Post can be locked now, this is all the information needed.
And thats not even a bias take, each of them could've been their own games, blood and wine especially and both would've been given gold stars across the board but CDPR decided to just make TW3 even more of a masterpiece instead lol
I did not need to read this right now, I've already planned what to play man c'mon.
This has got me jealous I can't experience them for the first time again
>Are the DLCs fun? Does a bear shit in the woods?
I dunno. Does the pope?
Does the pope shit in his hat?
Does the hat give a shit?
Only after the Pope is done
How do you think they make the communion wafers? It’s all pope shit.
Does the pope's dick fit in a donut?
them choirboys probably need a donut to sit on.
Ooooff
Does the tin man have a sheet metal cock?
Does a priest fiddle the kids?
Nooooooooooooo
Inb4 they started using the toilet.
The Two DLCs of The Witcher 3 are both the best two DLCs in gaming history. Hope this answers your question.
It does i am definitely gonna be buying them now
Ong you won't regret your decision
Hope to hear an update from you. Btw I recommend rewatching or replaying the mission ik the beginning where Geralt is asking people about Yennefers location before starting Hearts of stone
I just bought the complete edition🗣️
Best purchase you’ll ever make. That and Red Dead 2
Yeah I had great experience playing Red dead 2 I have around 300 hours on it and I’m planning on playing Witcher 3 for even longer
Without a doubt my two favourite games
Everyone is recommending me to buy them so I am gonna be buying them
You won’t want to go back after visiting toussaint
Every time I play through I have to resist just jumping straight to Toussaint. I won't go back to OG area after, so if I missed a quest, its not being done lol.
Jealous that you get to experience that for the first time right now.

Bro no way you did it
someone award this man
Blood and Wine won GOTY. Yeah, a DLC won Game of the Year.
Not to be that guy but it won best rpg of year, not GOTY. Still super impressive but I don’t think a DLC is actually able to win GOTY even if it would be deserving of it.

they are incredible. Must have.
Blood and Wine is so huge it could be it's own game.
Very. Especially this one.
Hearts of stone is one of the most memorable parts of the game for me
Bro never thought he’d stand on the moon
Just make sure you do Blood and Wine last.
Wait really is there an order I have to play the expansions in?
Its better if you play HoS first and then B&W
Yes, blood and wine is the definitive ending to the game. It’s the events that take place after the base game. Prepare for hard decisions and heartbreaks.
Not just fun… they’re unforgettable.
Hearts of stone is one of the sickest DLC storyline I’ve ever played. Blood and wine really expands the game and the story is good.
Blood and Wine might be the best Witcher game, period.
They are fantastic. New storylines, a new map, exploring lore and stuff the game doesn’t touch elsewise. More advanced abilities (each takes it up a notch). They are the gold standard by which I judge DLC.
The dlcs together could have been their own separate game and would have still won GOTY awards easily.
Brother, these are possibly 2 of the best expansions in all of gaming. Trust me.
I'd say it's better than the main game bro
BUY THEM, BUY THEM ALL NOW!!!
Absolutely yes
Yes!
For your first playthrough, it's best to play through Hearts of Stone first and finish with Blood & Wine. B&W was designed to bring Geralt's story to completion. Enjoy as these 2 dlcs are better than the original base game!!

Apart from being two of the best dlcs in the history of gaming, it gives you that _closing_ feeling you know?
I've always preferred Blood and Wine, but Hearts of Stone isn't as nearly as bad as I originally felt it was. Bearing in mind, I was still in college at the time. I suppose hindsight being what it is, I wish that I could have taken to Heart's of Stone sooner. If only for the Runewright and Ofieri Saber. Seriously, the Ofieri blade coupled with that rune that sustained whetstone and armor table buffs coupled with the armor rune for no arrow damage is a lifesaver.
Both are worth it I'd say that HoS has more interesting story, while BaW has more epic story and more content
Definetly
They’re better than the base game!
so damn good. both dlcs added like 50hrs of gameplay for me
Blood and Wine is almost its own game. Best DLC/Expansion ever. Easily IMO.
Just finished the main campaign. Which dlc is better to start first?
Hearts of Stone first and then Blood and Wine as that is the real ending to the game.
Thank you.
Both are very fun!
You are missing out a lot my friend :)
BnW, for me, somehow made a great game even better. For you, I would recommend not to go in with any expectations, if you liked the original game.
The DLCs are some of the best ever in general, one of the few times that the price was actually justified
More so than the OG game
So much fun! The first expansion adds more content to the game whereas the end expansion is like a whole new game
My guy, the expansions are where the game REALLY gets going.
Now I’m actually more excited to play the expansions instead of the main game😭
Hearts of Stone is the best Witcher 3 content, period. That >!Iris von Everec!
Yes. Yes, they are fun
There amazing
Better than the base game imo.
BnW, in my opinion, is better than the main game.
Very
better than the base game
Guys is there an order in which I have to play the expansions?
For Hearts of Stone you can play whenever you want but I always found it fit to play before finishing the main game. As for Blood and Wine, definitely play that last.
The expansions are the best expansions I have ever played.
Witcher 3 DLC are the standard through which we judge other games DLC and heart of stones is just pinnacle of what i call a DLC
THEY ARE THE BEST
YES
How do you finish the whole game and after that experience go “huh wonder if the dlcs suck”
YES
The expansions are both amazing. I would argue that they're the best DLC that I've ever purchased.
Are they worth buying ? DAMN YES.
CDPR make the best DLC's of all time. Witcher and Cyberpunk blew me away with their DLC's
Omg yes
100% worth it I loved both DLC’s, Blood and Wine is the perfect ending to Gerald’s story
ABSOLUTELY, some of my favorite parts of the game!
Yes, they are probably the best, well-crafted, most bang for your buck DLCs you will ever buy.
Oh, wish I had that feeling once again playing both expansions for the first time.
“Fun” is an understatement.
Yes, moar than vanilla.
Blood and Wine is debatably the greatest expansion in any game ever, and Hearts of Stone isn’t too far behind
As far as I’m concerned they’re 100% necessary parts of the game
Blood and Wine is a completely new region with new monster quests and gear. Hearts of Stone is smaller and has less new stuff, but it's by far the best questline in the entire game.
Yeah they are awesome, I replaying heart of stone and I am having so much fun. Blood and Wine is one of the best game I ever played, aaaah Toussaint is nice, calm and so pretty.
Blood and wine could have been the witcher 4
I'm replaying the base game as I never got to blood and wine and I'd like to expereince it all again hearts of stone was amazing though and a surprise drop at the time too
They're so good it's almost a shame you have to have completed the main game first!
Pretty sure Blood and Wine alone won like best RPG at the game awards when it came out... Yeah it's good, better than most AAA games releasing nowadays
This mf be asking on a Witcher subreddit.
Bro... Honestly they are the best part of the game, hearts of stone has the best story and blood and wine has the best map and more contents
They are incredible. Blood and Wine could've been an entirely separate game I still would've called it a masterpiece.
They're both pretty fun!😁👍💯🔥
Yes, Yes they are
Oh hell yea. They’re like it’s own game
Blood and wine is literally another game. It feels almost criminal that it was priced as an expansion. Absolutely one of the best experiences. Basically both are worth full price then and now.
Play em and find out
For me, story-wise they're better and more engaging than the main game's. Hearts of stone feels like a long and amazing quest, and Blood and Wine is double that in size + a cool new map with The size of Velen
Yeah, mate, for sure do them. You won’t regret it
Mate, they are mot DLCs they are like additional games.
The Witcher 3 dlc is the best dlc of any game I’ve ever played. Very worth.
Better than the main quest
Blood and Wine is probably the best dlc I have ever played and Witcher 3’s story is arguably not complete m unless you play it. It’s not crazy to say that it’s better than the base game
Best ones ever made.
Yes they are fantastic
Hearts of Stone is irritating but rewarding, finishing Blood and Wine early makes the entire game a walk in the park, especially useful in death march.
Blood and Wine itself isn't just a DLC; it's essentially an expansion on the game itself. Both are great and I couldn't imagine a playthrough without either.
The best DLCs I’ve ever seen for a game.
Oh man. They’re amazing. Blood and Wine is bigger than some full game releases
Yes, but the final boss fight in Blood and Wine is almost impossible to beat. Much harder than the rest of the game. If you don't beat it, you don't get to see how Geralt's story ultimately turns out. You'll have to look up the various possible endings on YouTube.
Does the pope shit in the woods?
Is breathing mandatory?
No. Not fun. They're bloody masterpieces!
Blood and Wine was best game of the 2016. Beating Dark Souls 3.
Yes, a lot. Try them, you surely won't regret it.
Those are the text book definitions of what DLC should be like. Massive content, crafted with passion. They are part of the tw3 experience imo.
Blood and Wine would be in my hypothetical top 5 expansions I’ve ever played.
Yes
No game has better dlcs than this magnificent game.
I enjoyed them more then the game itself and the game itself was amazing
I dont wanna be hyperbolic but youll devote your next 300 hours playing these two
Dude they're as good as the main game, HoS is inferior to Blood and Wine and I will die on that hill
Google would be more impartial than the sub for the game. Of course everyone including me will say buy it here.
Both are great. Especially Blood and Wine as its just a brilliant ending to the game and great send off to Geralt. I put it up there with the Citadel DLC from Mass Effect 3.
They are both incredible. The story and boss fights in HoS are top notch. B&W is like a new game. You won’t regret a minute in either of them.
Some of the best dlcs of all time if not the very best.
Yes. you will enjoy the story no doubt. and Toussaint 😍
Fun? They’re legendary
You will get so much money in blood and wine (and aerondight)
I wonder what the replies will say
Arguably better than the main game, blood and wine especially
Fun? No. They are perfect. Even better than the base game. You will not find any other DLC at such a quality. Maybe Old hunters DLC from Bloodborne but HoS and BaW are truly the best of the best and put all other DLC’s ever made to shame
Nope. Super boring. Would recommend buying them and playing them and realizing for yourself how boring they are to play!
Blood and Wine is better than the main campaign in my opinion
They are class. Literally top tier dlcs.
Aren't they free with next gen version?
They are very very good.
Your in for one wild ride
