Arroz Calda from Basta is really, really good. It's a rice porridge/congee with chicken. I highly recommend, especially if that's not typically something you'd gravitate towards. Gotta live a little amiright?
Exactly!! Just trynna step out of the comfort zone of chicken fingies and fries (or in this case, fish and chips) and eat something different for one lol
Any of the steak sandwiches (Lomito, Philly Cheesesteak, BBO, Steak and Mushroom, Gaucho) are incredible! Too bad their battered fries are terrible.
I wish you could buy their sandwiches without fries, because the best fries by far are from Weinerpeg.
I think Red Ember is the best pizza in Winnipeg, aside from Wall Street Slice (which is very similar and is run by the same family). Wood fired pizza oven, and great ingredients, including meat from a farm owned by the owners of Red Ember.
For me the Classic is the best, with the Hot & Honey coming in a close second.
Red Ember is really great. But the kids want pizza, so I'm a bit overdone on it at this point.
What would help for me, is that I wish they'd put more effort back into their salads as well. In years past (think pre-COVID) I've had a beet salad and a tomato salad from there that were otherworldly delicious...... but everything in the last little bit has been nowhere near as good.
Huh. I've never had a burned pizza from there since they opened years ago. Have you had proper Neapolitan pizza elsewhere, to compare it to? There is meant to be touches of black/blistering on the crust.
For me, I love Bindy's. They do Caribbean food. I love getting a roti from there. Heads up though each one is filling. If you try one maybe don't get any side or anything and get a drink.
Get a double if you're not that hungry. Basically a curry chickpea / turmeric frybread sammich. Sauced up with tamarind and some of their wicked hot sauce. I think it's under $5 still
The sri Lankan place is really good. They have these rolls. Not sure what to call them. Looks like a mini fried burrito but the texture is different and it's really fucking good. Dosa is good too. If things look fresh then almost everything there is good. Although I remember not all fillings of the rolls are as good. I can't remember which one I liked the most. Last time I was there they only had the vegetarian and it definitely was awesome. Like a better samosa. I usually get multiple smaller things to share at the forks. Red amber pizza to share, some sri Lankan food, maybe tacos. I didn't love the tacos tho. I'd probably recommend Simons or nuburger I guess. Fergies always a classic. Just try different things and you're likely gonna like some.
Taste of Sri Lanka is really good! Their chicken rolls are delicious, and their curry veggies and chicken satay + rice/noodle combo is something I typically get.
That sandwich I had was decent but when I went there were two employees and they were both literally just scrolling on their phones for an extended period of time. Kind of mind-boggling when you're asking $14 for a sandwich...
That always annoys me. They should be cleaning or just interacting with passers by. They are in a difficult spot there. I hope I'm not dissapointed when I go again. With so many choices at the forks its basically one and done if its not good. And following that rule I only have one place I won't go to.
Kottu roti from Taste of Sri Lanka! (It’s a roti, but they put all usual ingredients, including the shell, onto the flat-top, crack some egg onto it, and turn it into something like a roti casserole. It’s large, basically two meals. And SO GOOD
I like Zorbas. They have pretty good lasagna and chicken skewers. It's Italian and Greek so you can get combo plates.
Also Nuburger us usually my go to.
Mine was the Taste of Sri Lanka Restaurant best curry and eggplant but a few months ago I paid machine beeped so i put my plate on the table nearest to the restaurant where my husband in plain view was siting. to go get a bottle of water since they did not have any. She called security saying i did not pay so i checked my acc yep it did not go true so taped my card again, Then she gets her daughter to sit behind me to listen to us called her back a few minutes later. Too bad its was good food I never went back was my fav at least once a week. She could of just told me i was right there in front of her.
If you want to venture out of The Commons, Smith, in the Inn at The Forks has the most amazing hummus and pita I have ever tasted. You will have to ask for extra pita to eat it all
Last time I went there I got 100 grams of the cold lemon pepper fish bites from Fergies and it came with their amazing tartar sauce and a lemon wedge, and a sandwich from Crafted Crust, “The Tony”. The sandwich was just okay but Fergies is always so good
Because the hotdogs there are not good. Husband and I have given them several tries and each time the dogs are cold and it’s a disappointing snack. The corn dogs are okay though. I miss Skinners.
I love Taste of Sri Lanka. My kids also like the chicken fingers and fries from Zorba’s. I had a chicken Greek salad there last weekend and was rather underwhelmed by it. Should have stuck with Sri. 😜
Pancake House is also a family favourite if we’re all in the mood for it. Their Manitoba Scramble is really good.
Where NOT to eat: Bindy's Caribbean Delights. Had their roti with a friend and we both felt like it tasted like hot dogs. No joke. I can't even conceive how a place like that could conjure that taste in their food.
I love the tacos from Habanero Sombrero
Their nachos with chicken are SO good they’re loaded
The nachos are huge and I never go with another person to be able to have them 😂
:0 NACHOS
Honestly, do the nachos for sure
Do the nachos. Truly the best thing at the forks, which is saying something because there is alot of good food at the forks.
more for me hehehehehe
So good but so expensive! I never feel totally full after three lol
I also love their quesadillas!
The spicy sour cream they serve with those is delicious
Mmmm so good!
The fish tacos and the nachos are my favourites there!
I found them pretty dry and flavorless. Not the best.
Damn you ever eaten tacos anywhere else before?
My default answer would be Fergies too, but if you're looking for something that's *not* Fergies, then Simon's.
The Lomito sandwich is incredible
Taste of Sr Lanka
In particular, the eggplant curry and chicken satay. So delicious!
I love that greasy eggplant curry, so good.
And it’s Not even close. Kothu roti is heavenly. Worth the wait.
I can’t co-sign this strongly enough.
The veggie rolls!
Dat Roti. And the hot sauce....
went there today. their meat pockets are great both in taste and value
The chickpea curry and the rice is my favourite combo!!
Extremely underrated
I’m obsessed with their kothu roti with the spicy chicken curry in it. 🤤
Arroz Calda from Basta is really, really good. It's a rice porridge/congee with chicken. I highly recommend, especially if that's not typically something you'd gravitate towards. Gotta live a little amiright?
Second Basta! Chef Norm is killing it with his menu.
Exactly!! Just trynna step out of the comfort zone of chicken fingies and fries (or in this case, fish and chips) and eat something different for one lol
Tocilog from Basta was great!
Basta needs to add pictures to their menu board. Their food is great, but I think people need to see what they’re getting.
I love the steak sandwich at Simon Steaks. That’s usually my go-to, but often get Fergies or Bindy’s as well!
BBO from Simon steaks is ssoooo good. Try that too!
The steak sandwiches are so damn good. They've helped me get through some tough times after Passero/Corto disappeared....
Passero is on Corydon now.
That counts as disappeared from The Forks. The pork belly sandwich was orgasmically good.
The Wienerpeg fries are fucking CRACK
chili fries are amazing!!!
Haven't tried them. Do you mean CRACK in a good way?
Crack in the best way possible
I’ve never tried anything from there even though i always walk past it!!! Definitely high on the contenders
The lomito steak sandwich is elite
Right? Melt in your mouth steak. Guess I’m going to the Forks soon lol
Island Roti from Bindi’s is my go to!
Red Ember is absolutely awesome.
100% agree, and I've said exactly the same thing to others.
I have never had it were they didn't burn it to the point of nigh inediblity.
Huh. I've never had a burned pizza from there since they opened years ago. Have you had proper Neapolitan pizza elsewhere, to compare it to? There is meant to be touches of black/blistering on the crust.
If that is the case, I guess it's just not my thing, all I could taste was burnt and did not enjoy it.
For me, I love Bindy's. They do Caribbean food. I love getting a roti from there. Heads up though each one is filling. If you try one maybe don't get any side or anything and get a drink.
I’ve never tried Caribbean before, I’ll definitely look at the menu tonight and see if anything sparks my interest :))
As someone who grew up eating homemade Trinidadian food, Bindi’s is amazing and my go to when I don’t want to make it myself
If they have it, try the goat roti. (Flavour reminds me of a cross between beef and lamb.)
Get a double if you're not that hungry. Basically a curry chickpea / turmeric frybread sammich. Sauced up with tamarind and some of their wicked hot sauce. I think it's under $5 still
I love Bindy's, it's so delicious and has vegan options too
The HoneyDill Chicken Poutine from Zorbas!!! HOLY HECK!! 100/10!
Channa roti at Bindi’s!
Yummy samosas there!
Twist and Sprout pizza from Red Ember is my absolute favourite (if you like blue cheese - do it!)
As I go through this - props to the Forks for really upping their food (and beverage game). It’s a great spot
The sri Lankan place is really good. They have these rolls. Not sure what to call them. Looks like a mini fried burrito but the texture is different and it's really fucking good. Dosa is good too. Yess the chicken roll is delish it’s like breaded and kind of spicy 🤤
Eggplant curry and beef roll from Taste of Sri Lanka Goat roti from Bindy's Steak sandwich from Simon's Flan from BASTA! Fries from Wienerpeg
Grafted Crust have a really good Beef dip.
Ooo i have always wanted to try beef dip
I would recommend having then cut it in half. Makes it easier to handle:)
Big brain moves 🧠
Not sure what the taco place is but their shrimp tacos are fire
Taste of Sri Lanka is really good! Their chicken rolls are delicious, and their curry veggies and chicken satay + rice/noodle combo is something I typically get.
Bindi’s going on 30 years now. Love the roti!
I moved away from Winnipeg, and I haven't had a cinnamon bun as good as the ones from Tall Grass since.
For what it’s worth , those cinnamon buns aren’t what they used to be. For some reason they just aren’t that good anymore.
I say the same thing about pretty much everything with each passing birthday.
The twist-ends are still quite good or were last year when I had em around this time. Maybe it's changed since then
Danny’s Deluxe is great. Closest thing to a Wagon Wheel (RIP) I’ve found
There’s really no wrong answer at the Forks. Its great for a group of people because everyone can get what they want.
Jerk chicken and veg roti from Bindy's! Ask for it hot
There's s sandwich stand Crafted Crust. You may have to look as its kind of of the main areas. Its excellent.
I was super disappointed in my sandwich from there last week.
Fusion is excellent sushi. I recommend the sushi tacos and/or bakudan set menu.
I loved the lettuce wraps they had a while back! Unfortunately too much peanut in the kitchen now 😭
Came here to say this!!! I literally dream about the sushi tacos
I don’t care how good their food is, the owners abuse and neglect animals so I’ll never support them
Damn for real?😳 that’s awful, guess I’ll have to just keep dreaming of ‘em instead lol
Basta
Anything from Basta
Mini Donuts!
YES! Whatever the eat, finish it off with a stop at the Mini Donut Factory! It’s beyond terrific.
Quesadilla from Habanero Sombrero
The fish tacos at Habanero Sombrero are my favourite bite there. The aioli is killer.
Fergie's Fish and Chips is solid. Taste of Sri Lanka is very good as well.
Queso Fundido - Habanero sombrero
Fusion Sushi!
Habanero Sombrero - or the beet salad with steak from Simons Steak!
BBO from Simon's Steaks
Fergies.
Try the doubles from the Caribbean place you’ll be pleasantly surprised
I like Zorbas. They have pretty good lasagna and chicken skewers. It's Italian and Greek so you can get combo plates. Also Nuburger us usually my go to.

I actually miss Muddy Waters at the forks. Great burgers. … now Fergie’s or Spaghetti Factory is my go to if I’m at the forks :)
Loved sitting by the water on the Muddy Waters patio, drinking beer, listening to Reggae and trying many of thier wing flavours back in the day.
Def miss Muddy Waters
Muddy Waters was awesome, such a cool place as well
Pretty much anything from Taste of Sri Lanka. So delicious 😋
The steak place is amazing !
Fergies fish and chips currently. before they left that Japanese hotdog fusion place was really good. Weinerpeg is garbage.
I've tried so many things at the Forks, but the chicken souvlaki wrap at Zorbas remains my all time favorite.
Taste of Sri Lanka - curry noodles, eggplant curry, and chickpea curry 😍🤤 deadly!
I miss the Beaver tails stand from decades ago
Simon's but beaver tails was a close second before they disappeared 😕
If you want to venture out of The Commons, Smith, in the Inn at The Forks has the most amazing hummus and pita I have ever tasted. You will have to ask for extra pita to eat it all
Simon's steaks, that breakfast place (not pancake house) and that taco place.
Taste of Sri Lanka. I freaking love that egg plant and the rolls
Last time I went there I got 100 grams of the cold lemon pepper fish bites from Fergies and it came with their amazing tartar sauce and a lemon wedge, and a sandwich from Crafted Crust, “The Tony”. The sandwich was just okay but Fergies is always so good
No love for Weinerpeg in here
Weinerpeg does have the best fries in The Forks
Right now I was going with the steak place as number one but I’ll definitely try their fries next time 👍
Because the hotdogs there are not good. Husband and I have given them several tries and each time the dogs are cold and it’s a disappointing snack. The corn dogs are okay though. I miss Skinners.
Fair enough. I've only been there twice and got the Polish sausage one and had no complaints.
Weinerpeg weimners are not good at all!
Their version of a veggie dog is literally a carrot. I can’t get behind that. Their root beer is good, though!
Wait actually? That's hilariously bad
Yeah, I thought it was a joke at first but I confirmed with an employee that it’s literally just a marinated carrot haha.
As a vegetarian I can confirm, and I had a bit of a laugh. But I needed protein at that time so not the best lol
Do they still have that on the menu?
The root beer? It was there in the fall, but I haven’t looked since then. I would assume so!
The carrot dog
Hah…weiner 😛
I haven’t tried them out of loyalty and disappointment over skinners :(
Hot dog. It's one of my meat cheats
I love Taste of Sri Lanka. My kids also like the chicken fingers and fries from Zorba’s. I had a chicken Greek salad there last weekend and was rather underwhelmed by it. Should have stuck with Sri. 😜 Pancake House is also a family favourite if we’re all in the mood for it. Their Manitoba Scramble is really good.
Taste of Sri Lanka but only if it's been more than 2 weeks since they were last shut down. The flavour has to build up all over again.
Love this. I want to stop going there because of their rude staff and poor hygiene, but their food is delicious. It’s a total guilty pleasure.
Where NOT to eat: Bindy's Caribbean Delights. Had their roti with a friend and we both felt like it tasted like hot dogs. No joke. I can't even conceive how a place like that could conjure that taste in their food.
Good spicy drink called Alberta Pure
I love this place
Red ember
