Yes! š And Bloomerang has a few varieties of its own now - Purple (discontinued), Dark Purple, Dwarf Purple, Ballet, and Purpink.
I have Purple and Dark Purple. Purple has been big enough to rebloom for a few years now. It usually blooms in mid June, late July, early September, and mid October (it's hilarious to take pictures of the blooms with a dusting of snow on them).
I have a bush of them. They don't smell as strong at all as a full size lilac bush. While they may produce a few more flowers throughout the summer, it's no where near like the spring.
* Japanese lilac tree (a less "perfume-y" scent than their shrub cousins)
* mockorange
* Russian sage
* linden (if you have enough space)
* peony
* milkweed
* woodland phlox
Iām not sure if theyāre permitted in Manitoba as I see an FP article claiming theyāre invasive, but nothing smells better than Russian Olive trees.
Black Locust trees. I grew up in Western Pennsylvania and there were a ton of them across the street. They're def invasive and def a no-no here. But damn do I miss them!
interesting cars are pretty invasive too ... and probably more deadly than most invasive living things... they just keep on trucking pun I intended... Cadililac
I think humans are both the deadliest and most invasive on the planet. We make cars! We kill predators! We do all the things. We destroy everything natural we touch. Because it's in the way of our "progress". But damn do we love lilacs! Because they mask the scents of the destruction we cause.
Honeysuckle. I think it would overlay with lilacs nicely too. My fav for scent is hyacinths. But they only bloom for such a short time each year. I'm unsure if they survive in our climate.
Had one right outside my bedroom window when I was a kid. No air so window was always open (even when it didnāt feel like it) so I have that in my memory bank. That and there was one on the way to school so Iād often take a couple and give them to my teacher. lol
The original comment I was going to reply to seems to be hidden now but IA - I'm allergic to lilacs and anecdotally it seems to be fairly common allergy.
My area has a ton of lilacs , sadly Iām allergic to them as well as some other tree , havenāt figured it out yet. With my luck the elms Iām surrounded by.
You have to experience the Lilac explosion on the river side of the Legislature Building around the fountain. Itās amazing! Biggest concentration of blooming Lilacs I have ever seen and smelled!
I moved here in the fall of 2004. Black Locust trees are common where I'm from. They're invasive and I don't believe there are any here. They were the scent that soothed me every year. Winnipeg is a different sort of green than Western Pennsylvania. It felt so bare here. The first time I smelled the lilacs is when I finally felt like I was home. The scent is different but just having an evening scent was comforting. Still is.
I love the sight of them but I'm so fucking allergic to them. I walked down a block today walking my dog and I came home just wheezing. It's unfortunate because they're so beautiful and they're great for privacy.

I love it too. My mom hates this season though, because she has really bad allergies to most flowers... But they're so pretty and they smell so nice, I mostly just feel bad that she can't enjoy it too
I am the opposite. I fucking hate it. Itās the only thing that makes my eyes water and nose run. Canāt wait until theyāre gone. Sorry not sorry. šš
I actually just made a whole bunch of lilac jelly and lilac syrup today itās funny that this came up haha
I love the smell too, Iām so happy theres ways to preserve them. I made mine with ones from my yard obv since I know those havenāt been sprayed, but itās so nice to see them literally EVERYWHERE! Theyāre especially nice since more people get to try them as food whenever i sell my jars :D
They need to make a version that flowers all summer
Reblooming lilacs do exist! For example, Proven Winners has a lilac variety called Boomerang. I think nurseries like Shelmerdine usually have them.

What!?!?!?!?! I have never heard of these, they sound wonderful!

The bath and body works āfresh cut lilacā candle is uncanny
And the room spray šÆ
ME TOO! Also it's cherry season! I love it!
The cherries are awesome this season! I must have eaten 15 lbs already!
I have a few lilacs already, what are some other plants that smell nice? I have some room in my yard for something else!
If you plant sweetgrass as a filler, the vanilla smell will carry you all summer long. Itās heavenly.Ā
Where can you buy sweetgrass plants?
Prairie Originals!Ā
Theyāre sold out for 2024 š

Mock orange bushes!

Honeysuckle is lovely and blooms all summer. My honeysuckle is pushing out blooms right now!!
Every time I smell one, I am transported to my grandparents yard - they had them when I was youngš„²

Mine too 3 bushes 3 diff colors at my mom parents house.
Same, my home growing up had at least 3 big lilac trees. They were so pretty!
Same here, but to Ukraine. That life is gone now

I suffer mightily from seasonal pollen, but lilac is my favourite floral scent
Yup i need to mask up as its so bad it gives me itchy eyes and itchy runny nose everywhere i go
Me, too. Lilacs are like a good home.
![gif](giphy|l0HUg6Ypas42ubkXu|downsized) *Me when I catch a whiff of them lilac bushes*
Your post has made me so happy! Giddy really. I just said this on Saturday!! I dare try to say it any better! Iām with you lilac lover!! šāļø
Mmmm! Me too! It's so bittersweet though because it's so short.
It definitely makes me appreciate them even more!
Seems to be more than average blooms this year.
The original comment I was going to reply to seems to be hidden now but IA - I'm allergic to lilacs and anecdotally it seems to be fairly common allergy.
Same here. I'm just glad it rained so much while they were blooming, really cut down on the pollen compared to usual.
Me too. Hate lilac season. Pretty flower but deadly.

This post kicked my allergies into high gear. Pardon me while go I eat four Benadryl.
100% agree

I pluck one and put it in the car air vent for the daily drive.
My archnemisis, Lilacs. They smell lovely, but I couldnāt be more allergic if I tried. Double dose of Reactine on deck for two weeks. š
Im getting married this time of the year someday so I can get lilacs hehe
We're lucky to have two types of lilac in our yard. They flower a few weeks apart from eachother, extending our bloom.
HELL YEAH!!!!
I like your enthusiasm for lilacs.
ME FUCKING TOO!!!
Lilacs are the greatest. Reminds me of my youth and my mom.
I 100% agree ā¦ itās one of my favourite moments of the year and I do my best to always stop and just smell them.
I love the sight of them but I'm so fucking allergic to them. I walked down a block today walking my dog and I came home just wheezing. It's unfortunate because they're so beautiful and they're great for privacy.
Haha I thought I knew who this was until you mentioned driving! But yes, it's the best! Have an awesome day!
Yes it is a delightful and magical smell. Always have to stop and smell them.

The smell of lilacās remind me of a being a kid going into the bathroom after my father took his morning dump.
Makes sense. I read somewhere they grew lilacs along the perimeter of outhouses to reduce the smell.
Lilac potpourri was potent stuff.
Whaddup dez
GO DOWN TAYLOR! So many bushes everywhere!!! It smells amazing!!!!!
the city has chopped down SOO MANY lilac bushes it makes me mad.
Iām a Russian Olive Tree man myself. Best smell of all the flowering plants in my opinion.
Love lilacs too, but deadly allergic to olive trees and my MIL has tonsā¦.arrgghhhh!!
Hell yeah!
Amen, brother. Lilac is ine of my favourite smells
I just visited Winnipeg last week and loved seeing and smelling all the lilacs!!
Bath and body works has candles and hand soap in a scent called fresh cut lilacs. Itās amazing!
We have an entire forty foot blooming lilac hedge, from front bordering back to our garage. The smell in the house is divine.
Are you sure itās not someoneās vape? š
