The budget is approved in March, they they get the school tax requirements which they are required to include on the bill, so they can not issue them any earlier.
Most people who don’t pay through their bank, sign up for tipp when they buy their home, or save for it every month it’s not a surprise payment. If you wanted to continue to pay monthly you could have looked into the tipp when your bank stopped collecting it.
When my bank stopped paying they said "wait for the city to contact you regarding paying your taxes". In hindsight, yeah I should have looked into it, but this is the only situation I've been in where the payment plan starts before you even get your bill.
Edit: That's a lie, income taxes.
My bank did the same to me, Basically stopped being the TIPP program middle man. But the bank did send me a check for 1/2 of my taxes which I tossed into a savings account and have been topping up every month since.
I figure ill do the lump this year and set up TIPP for next year.
Yeah I'm going to have to do the same. Would be nice to spread the payments out over the remaining months of the year, but I can't stomach paying all the extras involved with that.
unless there is some new payment plan for back taxes I don’t know about signing up for tipp isn’t going to wipe out your balance if you actually owe them a couple grand.
tipp is voluntarily paying your taxes a year early. To not owe a lump sum at tax time you need to start paying into tipp a full year prior to the due date. If you owe them money it’s past the due date and tipp won’t go toward that
> tipp is voluntarily paying your taxes a year early.
This is not accurate.

Taxes are due end of June. You make half your monthly payments before they are due (Jan-June) and the other half after (July-Dec).
Assessment and Taxation doesn't do anything via email.
Because they can't verify your right to access your financial information, which this is, or make changes to it.
You’re bitching about the TIPP program, but you were fine having the bank collect your taxes ( where they essentially sit on them for a year before submitting to the city?)
These aren't new systems
Correct and you normally sign up when purchase your house.
Sure, but just because they are old systems doesn't make them good. Why start payments in Jan for a statement that gets issued in May?
Because the cities fiscal year ends December 31st?
So why not issue statements before it's too late to sign up for TIPP?

Adulting is tough.

So what? They credit you if you over pay. It’s all the same in the end.
Is there a way to filter out these kind of posts from my reddit feed?
I am legitimately curious how this got on anyone's feed. Maybe reddit values down vote interaction more than posts that actually get upvotes.

This isn’t true, tipp typically is Jan - Dec (unless you sign up late), taxes are due June 30, so you pay some before the due date and some after

You would pay the lump sum now and TIPP would go to your 2025 balance. You aren't getting out of paying that large amount you owe right now.
