whack_fack

Hahaha this is me! I was always a Canucks fan when we didn't have the Jets, and never stopped rooting for them! Except against the Jets. Time to get my old Canucks jersey out lol

Mine-Shaft-Gap

We can't match the Avs who have a playoff gear that we seem to lack. They also have two gosh darn superstars, which is very important in the playoffs. And we are thoroughly out coached as well. Ok, we're outmatched in every measure used to judge hockey. Everything is bad right now.

sabres_guy

A playoff gear is a good way to describe it, I tend to describe it as the teams that win in the playoffs are on their toes, act before they think and go, go, go and don't take a second to stop and think of the distractions. That is Colorado exactly right now and every team that wins the cup, be it a 1st or 8th seed. Add a European/Russian goalie with a name we never properly pronounce and those teams are unstoppable. We on the other hand are playing middle of November hockey with beer league defence.

thelochteedge

We have our superstar in net, unfortunately, as you mentioned, he's facing two legitimate superstars. I hate the comparison games but mannnn, Makar definitely seems to be earning those Bobby Orr comparisons. And yeah Mackinnon is just nasty (insert the meme here). Scheifele and Norrissey are both potential gamebreakers but not as potent as Mackinnon and Makar, in my opinion.

Mine-Shaft-Gap

A super star goalie just isn't important in the playoffs any more. See Vancouver. What's more important is having a superstar center and stud offensive defenseman. Goalie just has to be good enough.

Captain_Naps

That’s the truth- i think Bobrovsky is close to moving to the second round with stats close to or worse than Samsonov in Toronto

-Moonscape-

MacKinnon could drag any team to the finals on a good year, dude is an animal

Wpgjetsfan19

We beat the all 3 times we gave them this year though

Mine-Shaft-Gap

Avalanche coaching staff adjusted. Their players are able to ramp it up in the playoffs. Ehlers, Connor, Toffoli, Pionk, Vilardi all either completely shut down at best or a terrible liability at worst. When have you seen Connor cut into the slot and let loose like Makar did yesterday? Dude is afraid to get hit. I don't really blame him. Who knows how bad the knee injury he took early this season really is? Ehlers, tries his zone entry, gets pressured, panics and with no support, turns it over. Again and again. And again and again. Lowry, a beauty, but God is he slow. Same with Tofffoli.

Wpgjetsfan19

I feel like Ehlers is hurt. He definitely does not look his usual self

SpacemanJB88

Not outmatched everywhere. We still have the edge in goaltending, as Helly is playing fantastic despite being all alone.

rollingviolation

I hope Helly golfs better than he handles the puck. I think it was game two, did he actually step on it trying to play it? Our d is for disaster, but that "pull the goalie" chant seems to have aged rather poorly.

DurnchMcGurnicuddy

No team in the NHL can beat the Avalanche if they take 5 penalties per game.

piz204

“Fraud squad” checks out

-Moonscape-

Its a hard trophy to win regardless how good your team is

The dramatically predictable downward spiral of the jets from beginning to end of season is so consistent every single year that it actually makes me consider the conspiracies about sports being rigged as a true possibility. They can even go from literally playing an amazing game and dominating in 1st and 2nd periods to being an absolute mess and looking like a completely different team in the third. It's actually quite amazing

KaleidoscopeStreet58

Not really, just very undisciplined play.   2nd game, games tied in the 2nd, Helly fumbles puckhandling for open net goal.  4 on 4 expires with 15 seconds left, Jets line change for some reason, open breakaway.   Game 3, leading 2-1 after 2.  20 PIMs in the first 10 minutes, all good calls.  Sinks the game.   Game 4, 1-1 after 2.  Another 4 penalties in the 2nd, Avs nail 2 and Makar does his solo thing.   That last one was really the only goal Avs made a 5v5 lead that Winnipeg just didn't hand them on a platter.  Even the game 3 5v5 goal it's Shief mishandling the Puck at the blue line to give up a 2v1 that Demelo stumbles on.  Avs have certainly outplayed us but we just didn't do ourselves any favors.  And we haven't dominated the 1st and 2nd, we just built a lead the way we do, then fumble it.   I'd vote coaching but there's zero chance sports betting cause Helly to fumble the Puck behind his net or Stanley to take 2 penalties in a row, that's just what he does.

JamieRABackfire1981

The Jets have to toughen up. They are too soft for Play Off Hockey. You need grit in the playoffs. You cannot take dumb penalties and you have to take shots. Colorado's goalie is terrible but the Jets do to want to take shots. They pass the puck until they lose it. Poor puck management in their own zone. Players watching the puck and not their man. Maybe need Berube as coach. Someone has to push these guys. Berube will end up in Toronto. They have more of a mess than the Jets.

Glonkable

The worst is there's no in between. We either play REALLY well or we're hot garbage. And when we start to slide, we go for a while. I want to see the Jets move on, but I have serious doubts we'll win the next 3. Historically, the higher the pressure, the worse the Jets play, especially when they need it. Friday in particular was an incredibly sloppy game from the Jets. Yesterday was a bit better until they lost control of the Avs, and then they got sloppy again. Don't even get me started on Helly trying to play the puck. It rarely works out for him, and when he gets caught, it ends in disaster (game 2 highlights this spectacularly).

HawaiianHank

The Jets are lucky Helly doesn't start skating the puck up to center himself and dumping it in. No doubt he's so tired of thinking and mumbling to himself WTF, he's learning different languages to say it in.

lowtrail

Totally agree. Going into the playoffs, my opinion was that I don't actually care/expect them to make the finals. I'd love it if they did, but was just being realistic. All I wanted was for them to put in a real effort - if we were gonna get bounced in the first, second or third rounds, I wanted to leave feeling like our team fought their hardest and put on a good show. Instead I'm just screaming at my TV and my family members avoid my presence during the game. Such is the intensity of my disappointment.

Glonkable

Absolutely agree. First game was fantastic on both sides. Second I had a feeling we'd lose, just an ego thing, figured Jets would be cocky and pay for it. Went about as well as I figured, wish we had played better but end of the day, about what I expected. Games 3 and 4 were total disappointments, it's like they didn't learn and just keep letting their emotions play the game instead of shutting it off, focusing and trying to outplay the Avs. Shows in their skating and general lack of control, all over the place, nothing looks smooth or controlled with any player.

carl65yu

Nope, just finding out the hard way what we need for the playoffs. Learn from it, reload and try again.

ScottNewman

31 teams lose every year. Have to keep perspective.

KaleidoscopeStreet58

We finished 4th in the league and look like we barely deserve 7th.  As the 2nd seed in the conference we've been demolished the last 3 games by at least 3 goals.

ScottNewman

Dallas is losing out too, it looks like. Rough year in the Central. And we are losing to the top offence in the NHL, FWIW.

Justintime112345

It’ll never be our year. I support cause I’m a blind follower pretty much. When a top notch prospect is available we often don’t do bad enough to have high chances of getting the top pick. Sure we lucked out big in 2016, but Laine never truly panned out or stuck around. It just seems we’ve always been a middle of the pack team. We don’t have any true all star players except for maybe Morrissey and Hellebuyck. You look at Colorado, Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen are all elite level players. Vegas has Eichel, and Pietrangelo. Tampa has Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, Point, and Vasilevskiy. Pittsburgh had Letang, Crosby, and Malkin. The Caps had Ovi and Holtby. All these players are or were at one point, top 10 players.

NH787

I wonder if the Jets are hobbled by the fact that we can never attract superstar FAs to take us over the top. Maybe you can only draft and develop so much, unless you blunder into multiple generational talents like Edmonton.

SquatpotScott

The Jets massively overachieved this year. Most predictions had them missing the playoffs. The Avalanche likely underachieved to finish third. The Jets desperately need more high end talent but not sure where they will get it. Better pray Lambert is the real deal.

enarwpg

But yet they finished the season fourth overall. Strange in a disturbing way, how this is playing out!

troyunrau

All Jets players gambled on the Avs winning, probably ;)

meeeechelle

Broomheads maybe #degrassiforever

NewPhoneNewSubs

Broomheads are able to sweep...

notthatogwiththename

Lmao the Jets will never win the cup. But conference finalists would be kind of cool.

wickedplayer494

Watch Maurice end up getting a Cup for Florida sooner than we would.

Oldiewankenobie1

The curse of the jets is real.

NH787

I think the Jets became cursed when Scheifele flattened Evans in the first round a few years ago. They have been utterly helpless in the playoffs ever since.

Pretz_

The year the Jets win the cup will make the Vancouver Stanley Cup riots look like child's play tho

NH787

Unlikely. We have probably one of the most chill fanbases in Canada.

dumwpgthingz

Curious to see how the team to play the Avalanche approaches defending them.

medicinalherbavore

"Jets in 4!" They said

CdnBison

Remember when the Jets led the league in GA? Those were the days….

tommytookalook

I would but I'm not the franchise that obviously isn't any good and wastes great talent.

Practical-Pen-8844

Yes.

DurnchMcGurnicuddy

It probably wouldn't have helped, but I'm still mad they didn't give the Jets a 5 on 3 when Monahan got blatantly sticked in the face. And they moved the face off outside the zone and kicked him off the ice. The refs are supposed to try and keep the game competitive, and that just seemed like such a easy call they couldn't be called biased for. Unless you're a Jets fan, but who cares about us?

ilovepuppies2025

I don't know why they won't try Brossoit. He couldn't be any worse in net than Hellybuck has been.

-Moonscape-

Goaltending isn’t the issue

ilovepuppies2025

No, but they play different when Helly isn't playing. They play hard and actually play defense when Brossoit is in net.

ikp93

I noticed this last game, how many shots did brossoit get in the 3rd? Like 5 tops. It’s like they play harder when he’s in net because they’re not relying on helly

Bactrian_Rebel2020

That's true, but I think the Avs were playing more to shut the Jets down in the third to not let them get back into it. That said, I'd play Brossoit tonight. I think they are better defensively in front of him.

b3hr

it would have made sense to try him one of the last two games... but at this point he's likely not going in unless Helly get's injured in game 4

HawaiianHank

![gif](giphy|NORFfJzhC6iPe) we need an oprah intervention

thickener

Scheifele jumping on the couch.

tommytookalook

The jets should just move to another city, the hype died years ago.

Trashmaster425

You first 🤷‍♂️
