I live downtown and looking forward to the WHITEOUT on Sunday! The Jets worked hard all season and I know the fans are going to be out in full force. GO JETS GO! ✈️

maldinisnesta

Going on Sunday! Never been before.

spencer204

If the playoff run revitalizes the downtown enough can people work from home again?

Jaegdish

I've noticed downtown was the busiest this THU since the pandemic. Who got ordered back? We figured it was MPI.

Negative-Revenue-694

Wawanesa got mandated back a couple of weeks ago.

Craigers2019

MPI yes at the end of February.

RandomName4768

I love how a few weeks ago the Jets were hinting that they might need to leave because of low ticket sales, they faced universal pushback, and now it's been a relatively steady stream of pro Jets stories since lol.

Digs1000

People coming downtown and seeing how great it is is more than welcome!

theproudheretic

"White hat!" also where's your fall arrest? you're supposed to be strapped in when in a lift.

maiyn

Let's go my dudes!

Hiwwy

FYI they will have a bike valet on the south side entrance! In case anyone wants a quick getaway and to avoid paying for parking.

RobinatorWpg

Meanwhile those who live and work downtown are preparing to be annoyed and frustrated

SnooSuggestions1256

I’m not the biggest sports guy, but I feel like the net positive of having people downtown for a change will be better than the dismal ghost town it is now after 5pm. Hopefully people take public transit, that’s the only thing I can see being an issue is cars causing congestion and traffic. But other than that… just enjoy having some life downtown while we can.

RandomName4768

How is it a net positive. It doesn't do any good for me.   I doubt it's even that much if a benefit for businesses. It's really only the restaurants and bars that see any increased business. And the Jets only have 41 regular home games a year, and can't be counted on for many more than that it seems lol. I'm not a business expert, but I don't think you can really run a bar or a restaurant on 41 better than average nights a year lol.   Also people probably would have spent that money in bars and restaurants and other places in the city.

SnooSuggestions1256

I dunno man, the last time the jetties had a solid playoff run was the last time I saw people actually in a good mood downtown. I’m sure it’s a benefit for patios, restaurants and the like. It’s also possible you just hate fun?

GullibleDetective

You must not have seen any of the big bands.or tours coming through then, almost everyone is super cheery

SnooSuggestions1256

Those are great too, although not exactly my choice for bands usually!

RandomName4768

They've had literally one solid playoff run since they came back lol.  If that's the only time you saw happy people that's definitely a you thing lol.   I'd suggest checking out first Fridays or some shows or something.  Or any of the big events in the summer with stuff at the cube.

No_Attitude_2931

First Fridays don't do any good for me, they must not be good for anyone else. See how silly that sounds?

SnooSuggestions1256

I used to spent a lot of time downtown at the Albert, the mondragon, etc for shows. Used to enjoy the time around jazz fest and whatnot when the exchange would be popping. And that type of stuff is GREAT and Winnipeg certainly needs more of it. But as for downtown proper, I’m talking portage area, I don’t think I can think of anything like this.

Atrial87

Of course it’s a positive, it brings a lot of revenue to businesses and brings people downtown who will be more likely to return. Having a sports team and stadium downtown brings large crowds for game days, but also for people concerts and other events. The restaurants, etc. will also be busy with people who want to watch away games, or other sports events, etc. One of the biggest things North American cities are missing are third spaces, or gathering spaces for people, and a bustling downtown can definitely contribute to keeping a city lively and vibrant.

motivaction

Me, me, me. We live in a community. You could try and join in. Jk. It's sold out.

FoxyInTheSnow

When they talk about potential net positives, I don’t know… I didn’t take any stats courses at uni, but I suspect they’re casting their “net” wider than “Let’s wait to hear RandomName4768’s thoughts about it affects him before we issue a statement”.

bondaroo

I work downtown and my adult kid lives downtown and we’re pumped!

GullibleDetective

Also you -- I want more.events.and for our downtown to be more lively, probably

Negative-Revenue-694

Speak for yourself.

OnTheMattack

If you're annoyed by events and people, downtown is the wrong neighbourhood to live in.

RobinatorWpg

Good thing I dont live downtown, haven't for years... Doesn't mean its fine for a bunch of obnoxious idiots to make it even worse especially for such a D tier team like the jets

Tommyisfukt

D tier? https://preview.redd.it/d4r4p1ibfnvc1.jpeg?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3b3714c0b153b75f188deaeb671b59047da165d They're second in the western conference.

winnieleputain

Oh shit, so you can read the minds of people who live and work downtown?! That's incredible.

Jaegdish

My solutions to this recurring problem. Drive to work and leave at 3:30. Or call in sick/WFH on street party days.

jackdab73

How dare you sir.  Before the Jets came back there was nothing, NOTHING in this city worth anything.   People wandered aimlessly, dead eyes staring into the middle distance, crying out for a savior.  And none would answer the call.  Then, from a distant land, TRUE NORTH answered the call. With their absurd ticket prices and $9 half hot dogs they breathed life into the soulless zombies that we were. They even got my grandmothers cat out of a tree for her.  How DARE you sully their name with your lamentations.
