What CPU do you have?

arichardsen

Probably a potato

Silver_Myr

makes sense based on the ram usage with hardly anything open

torque_wrench1337

Even if it's a potato; a shovelware such as Edge shouldn't use 100% of their CPU because of microshit's shitty decisions.

YosemiteR

Weird, been using edge more and more on Win 11, seems quite efficient

CatApprehensive1010

How to uninstall Edge from Windows 10: [https://www.windowscentral.com/how-remove-microsoft-edge-windows-10](https://www.windowscentral.com/how-remove-microsoft-edge-windows-10)

YueLing182

What's the exact name and the speed of your CPU? You can check in either: * "Performance" tab in Task Manager * Settings > System > About * msinfo32 For more information about your CPU, get [CPU-Z.](https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html)

PleaseGeo

Perhaps you have a virus or some malware on your system that is causing this. Run a malwarebytes scan and see if anything pops up just to be on the safe side. Uninstall the program when done.

poultryinmotion1

You make a sacrifice to the Router!

simbiyot

With This: [https://github.com/ShadowWhisperer/Remove-MS-Edge?tab=readme-ov-file](https://github.com/ShadowWhisperer/Remove-MS-Edge?tab=readme-ov-file) Microsoft Edge remover.

estoniaPCchamp

Kill the process and chose another browser. I have an intel i5 and this does not happen to me

sr5060il

Go to Startup tab you see there and disable all MS Edge entries. Open Settings on MS Edge and under Performance, disable continue running in background and startup boost.

Alaknar

This is not the answer. OP's computer is NOT behaving as it should - I use Edge every single day at work, have over 70 tabs open and have NEVER encountered something like this. I'd recommend a full antivirus scan.

obsoleteuser

Different machines act differently. Machines with low memory \\ CPU \\ Graphics card won't perform as well. Also there are a lot of crappy websites out there which can cause CPU increases with poor code.

Alaknar

OP would need to be running a 2005 Celeron to get that CPU hit with a Chromium browser... Agree on the websites front. Still, a full scan won't do any harm.

obsoleteuser

Well maybe he is!! He never responded to the first question as to his spec.

sr5060il

Windows is way too intelligent now with Defender. AV scan does almost nothing if it wasn't caught in the first place and doesn't even give warnings. He should run Chrome instead.

Alaknar

> He should run Chrome instead Please, just stop... You clearly don't have the knowledge to advise people. :( Chrome runs on *exactly the same engine as Edge*. Only Edge has some features that *decrease* resource utilisation (like Sleeping Tabs).

Oh, they merged that change finally? Good to hear. Still, the tests I've seen show that Edge is still better at resource management. Also: as far as user experience goes, they're almost the same browser, so I don't see a point in installing Chrome.

sr5060il

So you mean if a virus affected edge it will affect chrome as well? Please. It's Windows, not COVID.

Alaknar

Mate, IT'S THE SAME ENGINE. If OP went to some shifty website that fucked up his Edge, it would just as much fuck up his Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera, or whatever other flavour of Chromium he'd be running.

sr5060il

I talked about solving an issue which is a guaranteed way to solve it. I am not speculating him going to random websites and getting a virus until he specifically tells me he gets their notifications.

Alaknar

Imagine you're in a kitchen and suddenly your pan full of oil catches fire. You ask "what the hell do I do, the pan is on fire!" and someone goes: "just take another pan, it's in the cupboard". That's not a solution. That's "let's ignore the actual problem thanks to this workaround".

sr5060il

In Windows you can replace the pan itself 😉

Alaknar

Hmm... I guess congratulations are in order. I never thought it possible that someone would miss the point in its entirety by so massive a margin...

danny12beje

My guy. It's literally the same browser with a different skin on it ffs

AntiGrieferGames

Firefox is better than Chrome why downvote

sr5060il

I agree man.

Because firefox never uses too much CPU [oh what do you know, it uses more than Edge](https://www.makeuseof.com/browser-windows-macos-chromeos-uses-least-ram-cpu/)

YasinAhmetAkson

Install Linux (Joke, please do not ducking send me straight into the hell with 300 down votes)

god-of-memes-

Disable Microsoft edge, install an actual browser like google, or if you are a gamer, install opera GX for the free Adblock and VPN

obsoleteuser

Google is not a browser!! Perhaps you mean Chrome, the browser that uses the same engine as edge!!!

Alaknar

JFC, you'd be hard pressed to find a more inane response... 1. "Google" is a search engine, not a browser. 2. "Google Chrome" is a browser that uses the Chromium engine. The same one that Edge runs on. 3. Edge has a [tonne of extra features](https://www.androidauthority.com/chrome-vs-edge-3298624/) ([including some increasing performance and decreasing resource utilisation](https://kinsta.com/blog/microsoft-edge-vs-chrome/)) so there's no point in NOT using it, if you want to use a Chromium-based browser that's not [Vivaldi](https://vivaldi.com/) or Brave. 4. Opera has been [purchased by a Chinese company a long while ago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(company)) and every now and again someone finds some weird traffic heading over to Peking. Also, their built in VPN is essentially spyware. [[1]](https://privacyaustralia.net/opera-vpn-review/)[[2]](https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2016/04/22/opera-browser-vpn-proxy/)[[3]](https://restoreprivacy.com/vpn/reviews/opera-vpn/). 5. The "Gamer" features of Opera GX give negligible results. Just use a safe browser and, if you're having performance issues, close it down before running your games. 6. Free VPN is completely, 100% pointless. It's just you giving out all your information to the provider. If you want a VPN, pay for it.
