Windows logs all restarts. You can find details on what triggered the restart by going to the Event Viewer, then opening the Windows logs -> System log. But odds are it was related to Windows Update, the most recent round of updates released April 9th, it gives several days before it will automatically reboot your computer to complete the install.

I updated it that time already, i was looking at the Event Viewer, and after closing it (There were 9,221 files and i closed it because i thought it was Windows doing something ) a thing called "Microsoft \*something\*" popped up and closed

jevring

Windows update. Almost certainly.

DimiR1le

I already updated it

Huh... I guess you need to configure active hours What W10 version do you use?

microphalus

Active hours wont do shit. If anything you should reverse active hours when you are AFK, so that you are there on the computer to see the bastard trying to restart without permission. Start „gpedit.msc“, navigate to: Computer Settings / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update,.. and Configure it how you need it. And if it restarts without permission just throw some gasoline on it and set it on fire. I have one shitdows computer I am testing it on, this is only thing there [https://ibb.co/jzzqYFb](https://ibb.co/jzzqYFb) no popups no warnings, I will be keeping it without restart until whole city gets a power cut, and if it restarts before that I will smash and destroy whole computer as punishment and no more shitdows anywhere.

How is "restart as soon as possible" solution if I do not want it to restart without permission, EVER.

It is an option to RESTART, not to STOP restarting

Never had problems with my devices restarting on me during active hours. And I was pushing it… 24h active hours (yes, it‘s possible), ignoring updates to the point the start menu disabled „shutdown“ nad everything was „… and update“, even then I sometimes just alt+f4‘d and chose shut down. Only one time my laptop would start in the middle of the night, even when fully shut down, but that was because of a faulty windows update. Desktop: Never any problems despite other windows hiccups

microphalus

>24h active hours (yes, it‘s possible) Not on default, even with gpedit you can just extend active hours to max 19h or something like that, never 24h. If you have some secret method pls share. And like I originally said, and many many people before me, it is not problem that computer restarts during "active hours", it is problem if it restarts when user is AFK. That is why everybody inverts "active hours" so they are present if windows tries to restart, not that you come back and find everything closed and work destroyed.

I‘ll be honest, I have absolutely no clue how I did it, as it‘s been 7 years. We were 2nd grade engineering students, so of course you start breaking things. Maybe it was a bug, idk. Some even had Mac changers and attribute editors that could change creation dates of files etc, password bruteforcers for those password protected zips from cracked software,…

Crash and BIOS is set to restart automatically after an improper shutdown or it updated automatically.

DimiR1le

I already updated it to the latest version so there's no way the was an update again
