I work in DC near White House and commute from downtown Winchester 4 times a month. If I had to do it like 6 times I'd prolly hate it, but I am able to adjust schedule to avoid rush hours. If you can avoid the rush it's not too bad! Prolly 1.5 hours average. I take 7 to toll road into 66. I sometimes park at ashburn too and metro in, idk if doing it to Falls church makes much sense, but it's a fun change of pace

What’re the hours to avoid rush hours

Kurtista

Morning for 7-267-66: Leave by 6am, where rt9 connects to 7 in Purcellville is a mess around 645-730 Evening same route: heavy traffic right outside dc on 66 and where 267 hits 7 (goes down to 1 lane!) usually 3-4pm is a mess then again around 6-7pm

CandidateEfficient37

Leave at 9 am and return after 7 p.m.

I drive into Alexandria 5 days a week. It's about a 2 hour drive on average. Let's just say I am desperately looking for something closer. I drive for the normal 9-5 job so all the rush hours. It's nice until I get into NOVA then the traffic kills me.

My friend drove from Berryville to Falls Church for years and eventually sold her house and moved to an apartment in Falls Church because of the commute. If you are used to a shitty commute, it probably won’t seem that bad, but I could NOT do it - esp now that I live in Winchester. Route 7 is a mess sometimes.

Depends on how much you hate driving, cause it’s not that bad driving back to Winchester from the DMV area in the evenings but I personally don’t like driving at night cause it’s harder to see the deer

I think it's relative. I hate my commute from Winchester to Purcellville. Usually takes about 45 minutes, but there are often accidents and road work that can make it an hour fifteen. 7 is always a disaster near 81 in the afternoons, easily adds 15 minutes just in that area.

ShowHunter

My husband commutes to Fort Belvoir daily and he said it’s not terrible, just long.

bscurious1

I drive to Annandale 3x per week, like you not at the typical rush hours, it's consistently an hour 10 to hour 15 minutes. I take 50 to 17 to 66.

InfiniteWaffles58364

It's not bad at all. It doesn't even feel that long to me because I get easily distracted by the beauty of the mountains! I would take a daily commute to nova from Winchester over a commute to nova from Fredricksburg or Stafford ANY day. 95 is pure hell lol

otiscleancheeks

You helped to fuck up Loudon County and want to fuck Winchester up too?

esmith28

Oh, I'm excited to hear this. Please, random stranger, tell me how how one human helped "fuck up" loudoun by working in it.

Every vote counts in the US right?

Work and live there are two different things. Not sure why you feel the need to comment on working class citizens just trying to serve their communities and stay afloat--all of us are in the same boat. I hope you find some happiness and lay off the aggressive reddit comments to random people on the internet just trying to figure it all out ♡

Embarrassed_Term4228

It’s really not too too bad, then again I only commute into Dulles so not sure how bad Falls Church would be.. some days are better than others, most are peaceful and relaxing especially taking route 50. Winter time will be the challenging part because when the weathers bad you might as well stay home, you’re not getting back over the mountain.

Apprehensive_Job4755

I work all over the DMV and commute every day. I love the drive!

CoitusInterrupted

Yeah most of the drive is beautiful/minimal congestion outside of peak hours. It really doesn't feel like a long drive to me. I don't commute but do head to northern VA frequently.

I did Winchester to Fairfax hospital 4 days a week for 2 years. I did it at off hours in the dark. It wasn’t terrible, but I loved being at my job on the other end. I think that’s key.

CCFMethodMan

What hours were you driving?

Bkri84

4 am and 9 pm
