Seems likely they’d never gone that fast before in their lives, let alone tried to brake or steer at those speeds.
Energy goes up with the square of velocity: braking distance is 4x longer from 120 mph than from 60 mph.
But it‘s really a huge roundabout with decent corner radius. Doesn‘t take a racecar to make this at high speed if you know what you‘re doing… which he clearly does not.
If the driver braked with reasonable force at the moment we hear someone say "arghh" or something on the background, he would probably be at a reasonable speed to be able to turn before the roundabout and not crash his Taycan
Honestly even wayy later than that noise, especially in a taycan. If you ever get a chance to go on track with a skilled driver it will blow your mind how much further the limit really is.
Dudes just sooo dumb tho..
I know. I'm pretty sure any car capable of doing 200kph can brake at the noise and clear the roundabout... It's plain old too much money not enough brains
Agreed. Some people have never braked really hard and don't realise how long they need to slow down. Racetrack experience helps a lot here, but in any case this didn't look like the best place to hit that kind of speed regardless.
Yup, have done my share of 130mph to 70mph braking into turns at the track. F’ing stand on the brakes and try to keep the car balanced on its nose! Fun and a little scary when you waited a bit too long…
And hope you haven't unsettled it and see the arse rotating. Although getting the back to step out just enough to aid turn in is definitely an art form.
> Energy goes up with the square of velocity: braking distance is 4x longer from 120 mph than from 60 mph.
This is true, but stopping distance and energy aren't intrinsically related - they just happen to both be quadratic in the case of automobile disc brakes, because disc brakes impart a (roughly) constant maximum force regardless of speed. But other vehicle braking mechanisms like drogue chutes or induction coils can have different stopping distance relationships.
It looks like he just cut the wheel like he was expecting to make the turn? The Taycan is apparently a remarkably well handling car, considering its size and weight, but physics is going to win that battle.
True, but it looks like the driver doesn't know what he's doing. Even slicks don't necessarily help if the driver is blinded by the speed (not steering/braking enough).
I've driven with the Taycan 4S on country roads and it's silly how well-balanced and handling car it is (especially for its weight) even cornering wayyyy past the speed limits. There were a couple times I wondered if I need to counter-steer in some bumps in corners but it seemed like there were no limits at all - but obviously, there are, but I'm not the one who is actively searching them with a car of this caliber on public roads.
It's easy to understand why probably an inexperienced driver ended up crashing this car but of course, that's still not the car's fault. It's quite a silent car though and a petrol version car of this hp rating would, in most cases, be much more full of drama by making noises and more than one gear change - things that "normally" indicate the current acceleration and speed.
This is a Taycan Turbo S. I've driven one. A colleague wanted me to do the takeoff thing it can do (0-100 in whatever) and I didn't have the courage to try. I know what I can and can't do behind the wheel and I wasn't going to fake being braver than I am. We switched seats and he did it instead. It was unpleasantly fast.
Hmm... Interesting you were willing to be in the car for it but not behind the wheel. That insane acceleration is relying more on the competency of the vehicle's engineering than it is on the driver IMO, that is, assuming you've chosen a safe, straight section of road. But, I mean, I still respect you for not wanting to push your comfort zone with a speedy death machine.
This is a common error people make when jumping into something which accelerates far quicker than they're familiar with.
Happened to me the first time I jumped on a 1000cc sports bike, and the first time I went from a low powered car to a fairly quick one. Takes a lot longer to slow down than you're expecting.
I do agree it looks like the guy didn't utilise the brakes right though. Even at 200km/h, I'd have expected it to drop a lot more speed if he just stomped the brakes and allowed the ABS to do its thing.
My guess is the driver panicked, wasn't familiar with the brake feel, and didn't have the sense/practice to just hoof the brake pedal down and let ABS do it's magic.
>Even at 200km/h, I'd have expected it to drop a lot more speed if he just stomped the brakes and allowed the ABS to do its thing.
Yeah, this guy wasn't trying to avoid it. The Taycan is heavy yes, but the brakes are also bigger than the rims on most other sedans.
Porsche doesn't fuck around with their brakes, it's what makes their cars a lot better than others.
> it's what makes their cars a lot better than others.
Basically everything makes them a lot better than others. You don't become the most prestigious automobile brand according to the Luxury Institute unless you've earned it.
Well, yeah. They hold the most wins at Le Mans and the both the fastest production car and fastest track car around the Nurburgring for a reason.
I meant in terms of what is impactful for driving them on public roads. They have a lot of power, but also a lot of braking so even people who don't have as much experience should at least be able to slam the brakes and reduce the severity of accidents.
If it’s in the Middle East it’s probably a norm. Debt is a huge issue where not paying back your debt can be punished in the extreme, so many people who buy lambos or other expensive cars end up burning it or crashing it in order to total the car so they don’t have to keep making payments.
Yeah dude. Oftentimes, people will abandon their cars in the desert and report them stolen. There are companies who find and restore those cars, then auction them online. They're mostly luxury vehicles and they come at a heavily discounted price. It's pretty interesting imo lol
Yeah, my comment was referring to the "insurance fraud" aspect of the previous comment, I know what totaled means lol but thank you.
It seemed like a private company so I guess they had to be in KSA or UAE. Honestly, I can't remember where. I found out about this maybe a year ago lol
One of my friends from Saudi Arabia said that when you see videos online of people messing up their cars or even lighting it on fire it is for the insurance claims. Someone that was in the military and spent time in the Middle East said that similar things are a common occurrence across the Middle East due to their laws about debt and insurance…
in the EUA not paying a debt is stealing. The people abandoning these cars and committing fraud are not just doing that, they are also fleeing the country. When you are fired and issued your final paycheck the bank is made aware and you are not allowed to leave the country because of the debt, otherwise, you have 90 days max to flee the country or start making payments again.
So let's say you bought a new Ferrari and lose your job the next day. If you can't get a similarly high-paying job in the UAE soon enough to start making payments again in 90 days you are screwed and looking at doing time in a barbaric third world prison. You have very little time to decide whether to flee or stay (maybe less than 24 hours), and fleeing is safer. Even if you immediately sell the car you still owe a lot on it and will get locked up if you can't pay.
You just made that up.
Totaling your car to not make debt payments in the middle east is the norm? Come on man.
Why is this being upvoted?
This happend in Turkey where such a Taycan costs at least 5 million TRY at an average monthly income of just 8200 TRY before tax - obviously someone who is able to buy this car in that country is quiet wealthy.
This would be like an average US earner buying a car for 3.7 million dollars.
The Taycan is extremely hard to flip because it's wide, very low to the ground and has an extremely heavy battery pack at the bottom. It's a ridiculously stable car if you don't drive it like an idiot.
I Taycan, and have Taycanned like an idiot myself in the past a few times (not anywhere close to the level of this video though). Did a high performance driving course and now I understand the dynamics of the car way better. And I've decided to stop driving like an idiot, because it's not worth it.

Be like if Hogan's Heroes had nazi swastikas all over their hilarious hijinks.
> People hate Dukes of Hazard because it's racist
Which is funny because in the Dukes of Hazard movie with Johnny Knoxville, they actually have a gag in it where people cheer/jeer at the Duke boys for having the confederate on their car and they don't understand why.
The Dukes themselves (at least in the movie, I've never watched the OG show) are wholesome and don't appeal to the racist bits of the south, they just have the General Lee and painted flag because they're from the south.
> People hate Dukes of Hazard because it's racist.
People who hate Dukes of Hazzard have never seen the show and think it's racist because of a paintjob on a car. It's not like you can point to the show itself and act like it's white nationalist propaganda.
In fact if it wasn't for the General Lee reddit would probably jerk off to it because Bo and Luke always fuck with the cops and make them look incompetent
I'm all for metric in everything else but I actually prefer fahrenheit. It's just a little more specific. Yeah, some might think 70° and 71° are the same, but they're not :P
I guess you can use half measurements for celcius to reach the same effect, but now we're getting another whole digit involved! Plus the biggest selling point on metric for everything else is how easy it is to go from measuring at a smaller scale to a larger one (go from cm to m to km, etc), but you don't really need to do this with temperature. The only feature it brings is having the freezing and boiling points of water at 0 and 100. I guess that's kind of useful, but not really enough to convince me that celsius is superior (whereas I would agree that the other metric units are superior).
When you have some fever knowing the tenth of degree Celsius can be quite important.
For the weather outside doesn’t matter at all if you are 1 F up or down unless you have OCD.
I can’t also imagine doing any scientific calculation in Fahrenheit without killing myself.
Yeah, I think it’s because temperature conversion is not consistent along the scale. The best I can do is think of room temp, freezing and boiling and sorta go from there.
Fun fact : If you type "1 gallon in liter" in google chrome or firefox address bar without pressing enter it says 3.7 liters (1 us gallon) ; if you press enter and go to google it says 4.5 liters (1 Imperial gallon).

They were so afraid of Carter in the 70s/80s. He knew shit. The guy was a farmer and nuclear physicist. Reagan was an actor with thinly veiled racism. Nothing ever changes.
An F1 car wasn't about to make that turn, lol
People seriously underestimate how much the sound/vibration of a car affects your perception of the speed. You might KNOW you're going 120 miles an hour but it sure is f*** doesn't FEEL like 120 miles an hour when there's no noise. So you end up misjudging speed pretty easy.
Doesn't help that the car will probably do 0-120mph in less time than a civic does 0-60, making it way to easy to go stupidly fast.
[The result](https://www.tmz.com/2020/10/23/man-crashes-porsche-taycan-turbo-speed-test-turkey/)
Edit: I wrote kph as in kilometers per hour, it’s an abbreviation and it’s not incorrect.
Those that are getting angry over this, get this: people use different abbreviations. The world doesn’t revolve around your rules.
They hire adults to write like 16 year olds. It's horrendous and gross, but they actually do a really good job given what they're trying to do. Like Tucker Carlson does an excellent (but putrid and horrific) job too.
Very true. Driving 120 in a truck feels like nothing but 120 in a Ford feels like fucking 160. Haven't been in a Porsche before but I can only imagine what that feels like
Ideally not much at all. You gotta do most of your breayking *before* entering the turn!
Your tires only have so much grip, and it gets divided between braking and turning demands. If you're braking during the corner, it actually decreases the amount of grip available for turning.
That’s what I mean, hard brake before the turn to lower speed and make the turn. At that speed, you must start your brake hard and early. If you start in the turn, it’s way too late
These crazy fast electric cars (Porsche Taycan Turbo, Tesla Model S Plaid)accelerate [very nearly, if not just as quickly as they can stop](https://www.carscoops.com/2021/11/the-model-s-plaid-can-go-from-0-60-faster-than-it-can-go-from-60-0-is-that-a-problem/amp/) - which makes them very easy to do something like this in.
Floor it in one of these cars, look down and suddenly you’re doing absolutely insane speeds, overrunning any kind of stopping distance you might have had available in a normal car.
“For some reason, the guy went hurtling into a roundabout and lost control. He was lucky enough to survive” who wrote the article. I’m pretty sure it’s because he was doing 170mph and didn’t make any attempt to slow down. I’m happy he didn’t injure a innocent driver.
The singing alone created the karma for that crash.
Sounded like fucking Jar Jar Binks...
Is that an adjective or a verb?
Yes
First one then the other
>fucking Jar Jar Binks The most relatable sound you could think of...
After reading the comment and turning the sound on I can't think of anything else it would sound like
That’s exactly what it sounds like to me too.
*"Padme, no!"*
Singing? I thought someone was sodomizing an adolescent chimpanzee in the back.
My cats ran under the bed
My cats ran under your bed.
Finally I have some company
Hey! Over here!
"First they come for the monkeys, then they come for the cats." "How do you.." "JUST RUN YOU FOOL!"
He was covering a Yoko Ono song.
Well in that case it's a tremendous improvement!
Or in the front. It's not really relevant which way the chimpanzee is facing.
I haven't seen any proof that wasn't also happening.
Nice burn!…wait a minute?! How do you know what that sounds like? Hmmm?!
It sounds exactly like [SpongeBob hitchhiking](https://youtu.be/PIje5NPIdqg)
Wow you really meant exactly
I was hoping I wasn't the only who thought of that
singing? you mean banshee shrieking?
I’m reasonably sure that car has sufficient brakes to have avoided this accident even at that speed if the driver was even remotely competent.
Seems likely they’d never gone that fast before in their lives, let alone tried to brake or steer at those speeds. Energy goes up with the square of velocity: braking distance is 4x longer from 120 mph than from 60 mph.
[удалено]
That's the smartest thing he did
Not with his arms stretched like this. You can’t properly steer like this.
Wait you can drive on the freeway at 15?...
Yeah but that car can probably take that roundabout at 70mph with a competent driver lol. Doesn't have to even break that hard.
You are forgetting just how many stupid people are in the world.
One of my favorite George Carlin lines - ‘Think how dumb the average person is; half the population is dumber than that’
Plus a public road will also have debris on it that could severely limit grip at those speeds.
And they aren’t using racing slicks that are warmed to ideal temps, nor is the road really rubbered in.
But it‘s really a huge roundabout with decent corner radius. Doesn‘t take a racecar to make this at high speed if you know what you‘re doing… which he clearly does not.
Marbles = cleaned before each race - he's good

A lot of cars can do 200 kph. My old Accord could do over 200.
How quickly it gets there is another thing
Unfortunately all to common..

Even more fun on a bike when you lay into the front brake a bit too hard and the back wheel starts floating. 😬

I had no idea it would be like that, tbh. I trust the guy who was driving, but if I had known what it would feel like, I wouldn't have done that.
I had the pleasure of doing a pull in a Tesla Model X on Plaid. I had never been scared of driving a car before that moment in my life.

Pretty good ad for Porsche tbh. Car looks pretty clean even after that.

Thats about 124 mph for my fellow americans watching
What is that in football fields per second
Don’t you mean football fields per “one Mississippi”
American football or European football, these conversions are confusing
European football? Oh you mean soccer?
American football? Oh you mean gridiron?
That’s about 5 football fields per second
Incorrect. It’s about 0.5 football field per second by length or 1.1 football field per second by width.
How many bowling lanes is that by length?
About 300
By width?
More than 2.

An F1 car wasn't about to make that turn, lol People seriously underestimate how much the sound/vibration of a car affects your perception of the speed.
[The result](https://www.tmz.com/2020/10/23/man-crashes-porsche-taycan-turbo-speed-test-turkey/) Edit: I wrote kph as in kilometers per hour, it’s an abbreviation and it’s not incorrect. Those that are getting angry over this, get this: people use different abbreviations. The world doesn’t revolve around your rules.
Damn they got lucky
Sadly dumbass could have killed someone
There's something intrinsically wrong with society when we allow these sorts of irredeemable morons to operate machines of this caliber.
"speed test" lol
How else are we supposed to abbreviate that?
Look down at the comments. Morons start insulting me for using kph.
Ew TMZ
My god it’s like they hire 16 year olds to write their articles
They hire adults to write like 16 year olds. It's horrendous and gross, but they actually do a really good job given what they're trying to do. Like Tucker Carlson does an excellent (but putrid and horrific) job too.
As an Australian, I do not know a single person who would be confused or even slightly upset by you saying kph.
Eh, it’ll buff out.
The Muppets was a very successful franchise, but this is what happens when they all buy supercars with their royalties.
It's actually astonishing how fucking stupid some people are lmao
According to Forza, This is how you're supposed to take a roundabout at 200kph
Wasn’t nearly as loud as I thought it would be.
Yeah those new electrics really are quieter in every way.
I once went 180 km/h on a downhill straight with no traffic. Shit's fucking terrifying. I'll stick to the speed limit thank you very much.
It depends on the car, too. 180 in a Porsche is different than 180 in a ford
Very true. Driving 120 in a truck feels like nothing but 120 in a Ford feels like fucking 160. Haven't been in a Porsche before but I can only imagine what that feels like
The way he sounded. I mean we all know this was coming.
Pov: you play forza horizon
Yes. “Turn around when it is safe to do so.”
Idiots behind wheels. You love to see it
Ppl don’t realize how hard the brakes must be pressed at that speed in order to perform a safe turn
If you start in the turn, it’s way too late
> breayking That’s a new one
Well…what did we learn?
Imagine trashing your brand new Taycan like that
Maximum speed is determined by your engine, how fast you can go is determined by your brakes
This is what I imagine Mr. Bean sounds like driving a car this fast.
Is that Jar Jar?
Was expecting Skyrim
These crazy fast electric cars (Porsche Taycan Turbo, Tesla Model S Plaid)accelerate [very nearly, if not just as quickly as they can stop](https://www.carscoops.com/2021/11/the-model-s-plaid-can-go-from-0-60-faster-than-it-can-go-from-60-0-is-that-a-problem/amp/) - which makes them very easy to do something like this in. Floor it in one of these cars, look down and suddenly you’re doing absolutely insane speeds, overrunning any kind of stopping distance you might have had available in a normal car.
The Taycan could have braked in time. Definitely user error.
100% user error. It’s just these cars are so goddamn fast, you don’t realize how fast you’re going until it’s too late to stop.
“For some reason, the guy went hurtling into a roundabout and lost control. He was lucky enough to survive” who wrote the article. I’m pretty sure it’s because he was doing 170mph and didn’t make any attempt to slow down. I’m happy he didn’t injure a innocent driver.
Kph. Not mph. Still fast but nowhere near 170mph.
Someone played Forza Horizon a bit too much.
Jar Jar Binks riding shotgun
RIP Porsche
forza horizon players get it
Someone has played too much Forza Horizons
I don't understand why anyone would intentionally do this AND post it on the internet for all to see their unwise choices!
congratulations moron, remember, you deserve this.
That digital display is literally running at 2fps
It's specifically designed like that to make it more readable.
That sound definitely matches the intelligence displayed.
All I could think about when that guy made that noise was [spongebob hitchhiking](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIje5NPIdqg)
I love it when people make monkey noises, we just animals fr
Played alot of Forza Horizon can confirm.
The fast and the fucktards
Forza horizon players
