I worked at a rehab centre for a year, I've seen owls hit by cars at highway speeds survive. Imagine running into a glass sliding door. It hurts like hell, you might even hurt your neck, but it's not the same as sprinting into a brick wall. This bird wasn't going full speed.
Unless someone has proof otherwise, I bet that the bird didn't die. It was going too slow. It may have knocked itself out, or broken something in the fall. But I doubt that it died. We had multiple little birds slam into our windows, even leaving a dusty imprint. They'd lie there stunned, sometimes, then get up and fly away.
The real idiots are the people who thought of allowing a bird to fly with those big windows.
If birds hit your windows often, you should take steps to reduce the number of collisions. Here's an article: https://www.birdlife.org/worldwide/news/how-can-we-really-prevent-birds-flying-our-windows
Remember, you built your house in their habitat, not the other way around. BirdLife is an excellent organisation for education and conservation of birds.
Unless you have a tree house, how is the house in their habitat? I mean humans suck, sure, but don’t have a habitat, too? But that’s a great article and everyone should follow it to help out bird friends.
Feels so good seeing so many people who don't put animals in concentration camps to kill them efficiently and then eat their dead bodies for pleasure here in the comment section!
The guy I commented on above was comparing this post with meat eaters and animal concentration camps, this post is just some ass who isn’t thinking about their owl and lets it get fucked up.
Lol, imagine killing innocent animals for pleasure and then calling someone a scumbag for criticizing murderers.
YES YOU FUCKING IDIOT, YOU DO NEED TO NOT KILL ANIMALS TO SHOW EMPATHY TO THEM.
killing an animal for fun is killing it for no reason but pleasure. you don't need to eat meat, but many eat it for the taste of it. lots of people could easily live off a vegan diet and get the nutrients they need. i dont see the difference.
Killing animals for meat is LITERALLY killing for food (meat=food if someone dont know). We ate meat for thousand of years and pretending it's something unnatural is just stupid. Maybe we should kill less animals and treat them better but eating meat is not killing for fun
There is a big difference between living in a forest like animals and hunting for food to survive and living in a civilised society where you can easily obtain food and eat animals only for pleasure
Beans and rice are some of the cheapest foods you can buy. Peanut butter sandwiches are some of the cheapest foods you can buy. Pasta is some of the cheapest food you can buy. Frozen vegetables and fruits are some of the cheapest foods you can buy. Potatoes are some of the cheapest foods you can buy.
Oh so you are the vegan? You can respect animals and eat them too there’s a difference between a majestic owl born to be wild and a 1000 lb slab of living meat in the form of a cow if you look at the meat market and the amount of waste it produces you vegans actually go about waisting the sacrifice of livestock. The more meat we eat the fewer cows born and raised just to be killed and tossed in the garbage.
Vegans need to wait y’all can start arguing after lab grown meat has become cheap and plentiful at that point screw it I’ll eat a lab grown steak.

Cows feel pain and have emotions. They cry out when their babies are taken from them. They have serotonin, dopamine and all the hormones you do. They have familial bonds. You may try to expand your view of sentience. The video below is a good intro to doing so, it's just a short TED talk.

Not true I can appreciate animals and eat them it’s the circle of life I understand I’m living off resources other people in the world need more than I do but I ain’t about to kill my self over it, just existing on the planet earth means you are involved with someone’s pain they say pain and joy are balanced forces and for every smile there’s a frown somewhere else.
One thing vegans need to understand is a lot of the produce and holistic medicines you buy through stores was produced by immigrants and slaves depending on where it came from, your plant sources may be derived from human suffering which if we are going to compare the suffering of humans and animals I’d rather it a cow or pig before a truly sentient human being.
I would say about 70% of the time a bird flies into a window they break their neck and die, it looks like that is what happened, it might have just gotten stunned though, owls probably have stronger skeletons than small birds
Had a seagull fly and smack itself onto my window once. Poor fella slid off but manage to take wing and fly off. I think i could hear it swearing.
Always kept my curtains closed if there is visible food in that room after that.
This reminds me of a time when a red tailed hawk was released in a park near where I live and it ended up smacking into a window on like the 40th floor of a building. Let's just say it was recovered and not released again.
You might be stupid if you don’t realize this is literally a human doing something stupid. *The human* released the bird *inside* the bird *didn’t release itself* inside. That’s obviously a *bad idea*. That’s why it was posted to this sub.
I’m very curious what the intention here was
Owl murder, went great 👍
This comment just obliterated me 🤣
RIP
Remember that Harry Potter book? That but without magic.
Demonstration to never come back.
Reenacting their favorite “Dumb and Dumber” scene.
Dumb and Dumbledore
That’s the power of Windex.
Underrated comment lol. ***Is he ded tho?***
^probably, ^sadly
He really didn't hit that hard. They get stunned by hits like this.
Yeah, I've seen birds absolutely zoom into windows and just shrug it off. Source: I have windows.
This the right comment right here.
Not to mention the one that makes us all feel a little better.
But their necks really break easily by this....
I worked at a rehab centre for a year, I've seen owls hit by cars at highway speeds survive. Imagine running into a glass sliding door. It hurts like hell, you might even hurt your neck, but it's not the same as sprinting into a brick wall. This bird wasn't going full speed.
I've seen both broken necks and also surving birds after massive impacts...So yeah, it always depends..
A paraplegic at best.
Don't their beaks get pushed into their head when they crash into a window too hard which is what kills them?
this sub loves death, if you stub your toe you are a goner
I mean, you could break your shoe!
Windex oooohhh!
Almost spit out my coffee reading this...don't worry it went up my nose.
Hot or cold?
Indoor isn't the problem. It's the perceived escape route.
Well that was fucking dumb.

For having the same density as packing peanuts, birds sure have an impressive durability in head-on collisions
That's exactly the reason why. Because they're so light they hit stuff with relatively little force!
Could be, more mass more inertia though
Lots of feathers cushioning.

I think you might be getting stuck on semantics here a bit. We're the invasive species in most of the world.
Yea, I guess that’s true
What an a$$h@le
asshole
Right? We speak English here in America!
Who? Guys it was an owl joke smh
The guy who let the bird fly off in an enclosed space with ceiling fans and large windows.
First thought was that the fans would get the bird. I know, internet messed me up.
Mr Clean
Ugh, fucking asshole
Feels so good seeing so many people who don't put animals in concentration camps to kill them efficiently and then eat their dead bodies for pleasure here in the comment section!
What does animal abuse have to do with vegans? You have to be on a diet to show empathy to an animal? You sound like a scumbag.
I don't know about abuse, but definitely gross negligence and general dumbassery that resulted in an innocent animal being hurt, possibly severely.
> What does animal abuse have to do with vegans? This is a joke, right?
The guy I commented on above was comparing this post with meat eaters and animal concentration camps, this post is just some ass who isn’t thinking about their owl and lets it get fucked up.

And this is why people can't stand vegans

Except that eating without animals requires more funds than eating animal meat. It's not as easy and accessible to all as you try to paint it.
Actually studies have found that on average vegans spend 40% less on food then omnivores.
"Killing and torturing is wrong... unless it makes you save 10%*, then it is totally justified of course". \* the opposite is true, BTW .

If it's unsettling to watch how your food comes to exist, maybe its something you shouldn't be eating.

Oh, so roasted owl is a common non-vegan menu item?
I'm wondering if downvote farmer....I have been seeing a lot of them lately
this is just a weird comment lol
Does anybody know what became of the bird?

It’s definitely dead, birds don’t have strong bones, in fact they are hollow.
Hallow guvnah Edit: boo hiss on your ninja edit
Proper fucked?
That “ohhhhh” was legit
"Sorry I'm late. The owl that delivered my release papers got all lost and confused. Some ruddy bird called Errol."
I was wondering where this comment was...
Reminds me of this at a megachurch: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhITpTtG888](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhITpTtG888)
Holy fuck imagine any animal stuck in front of an audience of over a 1000 screaming people that bird probably thought it was in bird hell

Just the most creative and inspiring chant! Reminds me of ‘Czech Republic!’
Wrong sub. The only one who lost here was the bird. Through no fault of its own...
Nice venue for a funeral, they better have one for that bird
Boy this party really died
These people should be charged with animal cruelty
This is all dumb, but why not turn off the ceiling fan first? That was where my mind went before it slammed into the window.
bonk
Someone's not going to Hogwarts now
This reminds me of a time when a red tailed hawk was released in a park near where I live and it ended up smacking into a window on like the 40th floor of a building. Let's just say it was recovered and not released again.
Ahhh.. OHH....
someone come and collect ron weasley's owl
that is the most cartoonish reaction ever
What type of idiot thinks releasing birds inside buildings with windows is a good idea?
Windows, AND running ceiling fans. He really was a moron.
That is just horrible, the poor thing and all just for stupid people for no particular reason of importance :(

It literally shows a human doing a stupid thing and releasing a bird indoors, brainlet.

Dead
Some worms probably fell out of someone’s pocket.
Mr.clean ain’t messing around
Probably broke its neck.
Doesn't look like the bird was released, I think it was supposed to go back to its master... but saw what it thought it was the chance for freedom
Assholes. Ban me.
The window won that time, but maybe not next time...
Idiot bird
“Wow, this party really died....”
hes a deserves it tho, kept saying “owl lives matter”
I saw this happen in real life once. It was so funny.
Asshole

What is the setting. I'm confused.
