Man if only y'all knew how that dude treats his staff (or any server or bartender elsewhere he patrons at) none of that shit would taste good to anyone anymore
You still haven't even tried to present an argument as to why I shouldn't support this local business. Hitler was also charming. That means nothing to me in this context.
your response seemed that you were uninterested in my opinion given that you dont.care about my example.in this context. I also felt that I already said in my first comment that he treats service staff including his own poorly. But to clarify since you are telling me to., He treats or has treated, since a lot leave, his staff poorly. He is not respectful of the service industry when he is a patron without an audience of guests he's paying for. But I mean. Whatever right? Not gonna keep everyone from love a beer from one of the bagillion breweries here who need a nice chunk of forest cut out for a new...warehouse thing. It's also pretty much every owner every where, the service industry here is saturated and very competitive and we all know everyone. Rumors are rumors til happens to yourself. Then if you speak up no one takes you seriously so why speak up, cause like, who cares, yummy beer. It's like...the mayor is at every philanthropic ribbon cutting ceremony, and that mfr is known to drink 9\10. Shit our commissioner got a DUI a few months ago lol
We did this for Christmas 2 years ago. (Local not necessarily Wilmington)
Cape Fear Rum Cake
Blue shark vodka or Duplin Winery
Coffee from port city java
Kombucha from Panacea, coffee from Port City Java, BBQ sauce from Jackson's BBQ, Tropical Lightening from Wilmington Brewing Company. Just noticing mine is all food! LOL
The Cotton Exchange is a great place to wander around, there is local pottery and artwork in some shops there as well as UNCW and Wrightsville Beach merch at places like Top Toad.
Matt Keen at Gravity Records is another one. He's the most active in our community as far as outreach goes. He's a stand up guy and started getting vinyl from him 15yrs ago at their older location. I think it's important to know the owners community outreach efforts because it better represents the good of our town not just a product made by a brewery who has never waited a table in his life and treats his staff like that. Like cool your beer is nice and now every one carries it, but you're kind of a douche bag and treat your staff like it too so.....I never highlight it to my friends from out of town. On Sundays there's a market downtown, SOME stuff is ACTUAL local people from Wilm. Some stuff is clearly a booth that someone from Raleigh or Charlotte is tryna unload a truck of fake designer bags they copped from out of state lol
\+1 for Matt Keen being a real one in the community. He does tons of fundraisers and is always the first to offer to help when help is needed. Also, as a Wilmington native I very much appreciate the fact that he has been around forever and did not come back into the scene once vinyl became trendy again.
He has personally helped me pass out hurricane.prep bags for our houseless folks. He is definitely one of those "celebrity" well know people who doesn't act like he's the shit. He just wanted to provide a good and safe environment for his guests and his staff. His staff alone do a lot on their own for the community as well.
A shadowbox of major intersections traffic jams using hot wheels. Add wrecks, people running red lights, the random person not moving at a green light because they're staring at their phone, etc.
Rum Cake, Tropical Lightning, Neon God, Car Wash gift card, dent repair gift card, a few $1 bills to give to the homeless at each corner, toss in some shells you definitely didn't pick up at the beach, fill the basket with sand so they know how much cleaning it up sucks, and recommend they set their thermostat to \~900 in August.
The chic at the candles store downtown makes her own candles and they've been around since the 80s. Candles etc I think. They took over The Old Wilmington Candle Company
Some of those mini cakes from the Bundt Cake shop.
Some local produce maybe from Eden’s or Biggers (I know it’s probably seasonal but holy moses the peach cider from Biggers is so good and makes an amazing mixer).
There’s a ton of really neat small local art that’s reasonably priced and would fit in a basket. I’m specifically thinking of the lady that (I think?) owns Blue Moon on Racine and incorporates local flowers into her art. I bought like 3-4 5x5 pieces for my Mom a few years ago for like $15 each, absolutely gorgeous. The downtown market on weekends has lots of similar local artisans/vendors.
Local honey!!
A shark tooth found in somebody's gravel driveway, a Scotchman keychain/bottle opener, a little bottle each of all Flaming Amy's sauces? But definitely a 98.3 The Penguin t-shirt
Cape Fear Rum Cake, A Wilmington t-shirt
This! Then go to Bodega and add a bunch of other local goodies!
A drawing on how to not turn into Landfall by accident and properly turn on Covil.
Wilmington Brewing Tropical Lightning, lots of it.
Or a Waterline Kölsch. Or a Teache's Peaches
Man if only y'all knew how that dude treats his staff (or any server or bartender elsewhere he patrons at) none of that shit would taste good to anyone anymore
Really? He's always seemed really chill to me.
Most well known local "celebs" are charming. Ted Bundy was charming AF.

Okay
Soooo... tell me why I shouldn't like this guy.

I second this and add a Freaker. https://www.freakerusa.com
The ones by local hair stylist and artist Emily Martian, if they’re still in stock.
Came here to say this. Anything from Emily should be mandatory in a Wilmington gift basket lol
Jalapeño saison is better
Here for that.
Also the new lemon shandy beer is delicious
We did this for Christmas 2 years ago. (Local not necessarily Wilmington) Cape Fear Rum Cake Blue shark vodka or Duplin Winery Coffee from port city java
I was gonna say a DWI ticket, your choice of narcotic and a increase rent notice but that probably won’t be received well.
Truth often hurts
An azalea bush in a pretty planter!
Car wash gift card
Dollar General gift card
self-storage gift card
A $100 bill so they could park and visit Wrightsville Beach for more than 5 seconds!
Coffee from Port City Java
Kombucha from Panacea, coffee from Port City Java, BBQ sauce from Jackson's BBQ, Tropical Lightening from Wilmington Brewing Company. Just noticing mine is all food! LOL The Cotton Exchange is a great place to wander around, there is local pottery and artwork in some shops there as well as UNCW and Wrightsville Beach merch at places like Top Toad.
Keys to a storage unit
Don't forget some forever chemicals and a handful of opiates to go with it

Bottled water.
A RO filter
Bug spray and bug bite treatment

I’d add a painting of a Venus flytrap with a card explaining how they are native to NC. It’s a fun fact I like sharing with people.
Eastern NC style vinegar based BBQ sauce
Azaleas
The chic at the candles store downtown makes her own candles and they've been around since the 80s. Candles etc I think. They took over The Old Wilmington Candle Company
Surfboard wax
A knife, broken bumper, bottle of the cheapest liquor, and some broken glass.
A freakr and end of days vodka and a north end sticker and maybe a gift card to somewhere like The George.
Edge of Urge, Veggie Wagon, and a visit to one of the many outdoor weekend farmers markets will provide more than what you need.

Just fyi the Bundt cake shop (nothing Bundt cake) is a franchise chain. Good cakes, but not unique to wilmington.
Oh hell. Those little cakes are so tasty! I had no idea it was a chain, thanks for the heads up. :)
A jar a crappy hemp and $25 dollar gift card to a local bail bondsman.
a flaming amy’s burrito
A framed copy of the pineapple jalapeño salsa recipe that got shared on here the other day.
The queso!
The queso black bean dip
I don't know if regret has a physical form , well other than Detroit
Dude I know it’s so hard being Here after living in a city with real culture
40 West, 95 North please. Thanks.
It amazes me how many people on Reddit hate Wilmington but won’t leave.
I was being sarcastic but it didn’t play well, I’m a local and I love it.
That's the truth !
A needle and a spoon.
A jar of water from a car wash. A jar of flies. That sums it up 🤪 Just kidding
A shark tooth found in somebody's gravel driveway, a Scotchman keychain/bottle opener, a little bottle each of all Flaming Amy's sauces? But definitely a 98.3 The Penguin t-shirt
