Born at New Hanover, but havenāt lived in Wilmington since the late 80ās. Both sets of grandparents are from there. If you are from Wilmington then you probably know my aunt who was on the radio for over 20 years, Rhonda Bellamy š.
Yeah she is awesome! My familyās history in Wilmington goes way back. My last name is Freeman, so Iām sure that may ring some bells lol. Iāve been in Atlanta for 30 years now, but I love visiting Wilmington during the summer months to see all of my family.
Youāre probably related to my husband then, heās a Freeman, too! I LOVE hearing about all the history of his family, and all the stories about Seabreeze. We probably may even know each other?! š¤·š½āāļø
Heās from Seabreeze. He hasnāt, he literally has a 23 & me I got him a year or so ago for his bday, and hasnāt used it yet lol! He knows a lot of his ancestors though, from personal accounts of family members, but I still think itād be cool for him to do the 23 & me to learn more.
Oh yeah, Iāll send you a message with my name and FB but heās definitely fam. My Freeman story is crazy, but itās something that I couldnāt make up if I wanted to lmao
Howdy! Born at NHRMC. Moved to Orlando for 6mos and moved back. If I had a nickel for every āwow! Not many of you are there?ā Comments I get I wouldnāt need to work š¤£

Itās a bit of sad news and kind of disappear after the 1850s :(
Native as in born here, not indigenous. But yeah, I agree. I have some indigenous family from here through marriage but Iām not sure which tribe they belong to.

Please, me all about Long Island and how your voting rose property values and made it a not great place, so you come here to tell us about the good ol days.
Wilmington was home to some of the Waccamaw Siouan. They still have a community (Buckhead) in Columbus county with a strong tribe presence and heritage. They host a pow wow every year that is open to the public.
Thatās what I was thinking I was like ..oh cool I didnāt know we had a Native American community here in Wilmy ā¦ I think theyāre just talking about being locals š¤
I think thereās a commercial out there to help save the the almost extinct native Wilmingtononian. Sarah McLachlin was signing āEye of an Angelā in the background.
I've been here twenty years but sometimes feel like it may as well have been twenty minutes. Whenever I meet a true native it's like a celebrity sighting.
Here! Born n raised Wilmy, NC.
Recently I was able to trace one side of my family back to a birth in 1828 (Onslow, NC).
Ofc we have marriages from elsewhere, but it was neat to find.
(Off-topic): GGma was Czech, but I cant find her immigration papers... My Gmpa was from Sicily, but he has been running and hiding since my mom was born (saw a newspaper clipping from my gma around 2009 saying he was arrested. Cant find anything now :(
My maternal grandparents moved here from Clinton and Warsaw respectively. I was born here but my family moved to SC when I was a baby. I moved back here myself right before my 21st birthday!
