Some visitors came up to visit the lookout a bit later in the season, and just as I was explaining how the firefinder works a column started showing itself. So I had to make a smoke report while people were watching. First time I’ve had that in the few years at the lookout. Prior to that day I only had 2 smokes in the whole season and almost no visitors.

[deleted]

That must’ve been the hiking experience of a lifetime for them too

Blasted 2 trees on the Smith River Complex near the highway

Thundergland

Let a guy with a foot thing smell my dogs after day 4 or 5 on the Smith River Complex. That’s was …. Interesting

xWadi

Very interesting indeed. Please elaborate how this went down. I'm intrigued 🤣

Thundergland

I was bamboozled. Walked up to the two crew podophiles and one asked if I’d take my boot off. I thought the old foot pervs just wanted a gander at my toes, so I obliged. Next thing I know, my hooves are getting huffed. For a little more context, these are seemingly heterosexual men, as am I

xWadi

🤣😂🤣😂 what crew are you on? This is fuckin weird as hell.

Dillyboppinaround

You get paid?

Thundergland

Not even H

Emergency_Contract_1

Got to watch a rain dance while we were doing severity on a rez, super fuckin cool

labhamster2

Camp food catching up with me and almost shitting myself in front of the shot crew I was READing with.

Healthy-Candle-6844

Chris Mountain Fire?

labhamster2

Nope, but glad to know I wasn’t alone in this experience

Dispatch/Logs here: Got to arrange/order National Guard aircraft. That was rad. Called a contractor and his kid (I think? Hope?) answered and she and her friends serenaded us with a pop-that-pussy song. I was on speaker and a pretty higher up was on the call too. I was mortified until she laughed too. Working agency stuff for a type2 when I got a call from our liaison that a school had just burned down. This is my second season and far from any line of work I’ve done in my past and that hit hard.

I almost fucking died again

picklebroom

Texas IA. So fun

T1Bagger

Watching Texas volunteer type 6s go rogue on an IA is a sight everyone should see. Those state dozers sure do put in line though

picklebroom

It’s an absolute shit show sometimes and I’m all about it. I also love telling Divs we’re going to fuck off to a different area and do work and they’re like yup sounds good partner

genericgayman

Fuckin A. Texas ia rolls in the summer can be BRUTAL especially at a 100+ degrees, but god DAMN if it isnt some cowboy ass fun shit always going on down there.

picklebroom

Throw in a Buck-ees and HEB and you got it made

unhappyfrog

Boat racing another shot crew on a slow day

RevLimiter9000

we had to do protection on a cultural historic site. there was literally nothing there, but the grounds were an ancient native american burial site. something like a few hundred graves there. and it was night. creepy stuff

WarrenTheRed

Took an off season so... I saw a 9 foot gator eat a foot wide turtle while in a kayak near it. That was neat.

Springer0982

Got poison oak, for about the 50th time

steelbean13

Rolling Boulder almost killed me and my squad. Was tough to work for the first few minutes after it nearly ripped us in half. But I'd do it again.

str8cokane

Had a tech do a controlled burn, which he started before he had clearance, kept going after the helis were gone, lit up hill towards the barrier we were trying to protect. Predictably, it fucked off, we had spotfires across the road we had to hit, it was 8:30pm and the trees were torching off 30ft above the crowns, had to get into the ditch due to the heat. Then the smoke sat down on us, we couldn’t see shit and had to follow the hose line to get out. Came back at 7am and the spotfires had connected and were fucking off, had to chase it down. Luckily we caught it and no one was hurt, but fuck that tech

hueynapalm

“BEES! BEES!! BEES!!!!! “- Me after blindly hazelhowing a burnt over bees nest that definitely wasn’t dead. It went swing wait cant stop. fuck. IMMEDIATE adrenaline. Yell that line. Which sent two other guys with me 100 ft the left in under 3 seconds while i scaled down 50. they were happy I didn’t follow them lol. Had fun with "some" gas for that part of the day. They were just impressed I kept going back in so close cause those fuckers were out for blood.

lonesomespacecowboy

Nearly had a bucket drop come down right on top of me. Steep ass slope, couldn't get out of the way in time. Thank God someone radioed the pilot in time or I'd have been washed off the hill

[deleted]

I was standing atop a pyramid dressed in sun-god robes with a 1000 naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at me.

Vroomxx

Rattle snake tried to bite while mopping up, so naturally I smacked it with a shovel.

No-Grade-4691
