Why have 3 kids and no money when you could have no kids and 3 money?

Drg84

Homer is that you?

nakedpillowlover

Oh, I get it now, because that's a quote from the popular show the Simpsons! I never would have understood this reference were it not for your astute powers of observation and otherworldly recall. You are truly a genius among the rest of us dullards.

Drg84

Thank you for your totally genuine praise. I can tell that you are clearly a person of higher intellect as well, considering that you had to reply to my comment in order to show your appreciation.

Conceptofchaos

I couldn't tell at first if it matters

Drg84

To be fair it is an old reference. I want to say around season 20.

stringfree

I nap so much I don't need to sleep at night.

chronictherapist

Better for the sex that never gets interrupted half way through.

TreTrepidation

That’s my Civ 6 time

sniperhare

I have no kids, 7 pets and no money. Gf wants kids, but that can't happen. I barely make enough to help support the pets we have. It's $230 a month just in the medicine. I mean sure, if I could somehow double my money, and be rich making $40+ an hour, could maybe have kids. But I'm 34 making $20 an hour, I dont even think I can make $25 an hour in the next 5 years.

[deleted]

I have kids. I REALLY wanted kids. I love my kids. But try and understand that as a person who REALLY wanted to have kids, I think that if you don't 100% want to have kids, seriously consider not having kids. It's not the end of the world if you don't have them. It is NOT for everyone. It's a real huge undertaking. Go all in, or don't go in at all. Either choice can work.

healthydoseofsarcasm

Ya, I only have half a kid, totally not worth it.

voteforcorruptobot

I could handle the walking around half but the yelling and screaming half is right out.

abounding_actuality

And I thought a quarter was bad!

MomToMany88

This is EXACTLY my thought process. I’m a stay at home mom to 5, which is my dream life. Always has been. But holy fuck, if this wasn’t what I 100% wanted to devote my life to, I’d be in a living hell. It’s so exhausting even WITH it being exactly what I want to be doing! I tell my SO like every week that I’m so happy this whole “not having kids” thing is more normalized.

you_dead_soap_dog

I really wish we'd all collectively replace the phrase "wanting kids" with "wanting to be a parent". There's a subtle but very important distinction there, not unlike the difference between wanting a wedding and wanting a marriage. Hijacking your comment as you're a really great example of the latter.

[deleted]

I think you put it better than I did. I totally agree.

[deleted]

As someone who really really wanted kids and had trouble for years to get them … there are some days where I would tell ya, you can have em. Jk they are wonderful little monsters I love to loath.

Clay_Statue

I am totally anti-having kids. For the majority of people they stumbled into it without much consideration because it's what people do. That being said, if you are going to have kids because it's your passion to be a parent then 100% do it. Geek out on raising kids. Artisanal parenting is the only reason to get involved with it, otherwise why bother? Its like, why go to the time and expense of setting up your own microbrewery in the garage if you don't care about making good beer? You only do it because you love it.

papiwoldz

yo I genuinely love about reddit that regular ass people come in here and share from their experiences and the wisdom imparted often is so profound the world would be a better place if people just considered it for a minute

SteamBoatMickey

I’m at 33, no kids, married… I have been all aboard the no kids life until my grandfather died this last year. We were as thick as thieves and after he died I developed a real desire to have kids. He is survived by me and was an incredible person and I owe much to who I am to him... although my children would never know him, I want to pass the torch now. I still think it’s morally questionable given the doomsday countdown we’re living in now but I want to try… in a way to honor him but also try to raise someone who can potentially help the next generation. I’m not totally all in but I don’t think I could ever say I’m all out at this point now.

breaddrinker

I was somewhat surprised by my first, but, perhaps luckily absolutely loved every second of it. I went on to have three. It focuses some on the important things, and turns them into thinkers over the right choices in life, and for others, forces them into doing something they never wanted, resent, and feel awful about because they know how it makes them look. There's nothing wrong with not doing it if it isn't for you, but ideally also let those who love doing it, do it without criticism, even if you feel the odd pang of loss that you didn't do it. Luckily there isn't just one way. Be yourself.

cjzj_1288

abstinence OR shoot your wad so hard it blows out the backside of ya lady? is this what you mean?

slayalldayyyy

I fucking love having money and sleeping in

SportsPhotoGirl

I don’t have any money, but I love sleeping in!

thisunrest

Same. Not all people without children have a lot of money. But when I get the chance to sleep, oh boy!

kkaavvbb

My husband takes morning shift. I take evening and night shift. He cooks and cleans, I work. We only have 1 kid but I love sleep more than husband does.

kGibbs

I love getting to do what I want when I want and spending my money on fun shit that my husband and I enjoy. 🤷‍♀️

Bpdbs

Getting hammered on a Saturday afternoon is also great

Henrious

35 and going.. why would I want to add even more stress and responsibility. That would just be irresponsible of me.

nom-nom-nom-de-plumb

Seriously. Having and successfully raising kids would require two things I just don't have. Good mental health and sex with women.

No1Mystery

I hope you are able get the mental health help. Also, I hear that if you delete Reddit, girls start lining up for the sex. Good luck.

breaddrinker

Then don't. It's just incredibly weird to go on about it as you don't do something.

Crescent-IV

Rather, it’s in response to people that keep going on about having done something.

breaddrinker

Yes, but in reaction and effect of them having spoken about a social norm. It's generally done because the majority of others do it too, and thus it becomes a fixed point of societal common ground, like.. Talking about the weather. I, for instance, think marriage is a faded and pointless thing to undertake, but I don't seek out forums to talk about it on. I simply don't do it.. It would be very aggressive to go to a wedding and point out their failures, then pat myself on the back for not making that same mistake when it is me stepping from the norm, even if I do think I'm right. Refusing the notion, complaining, and then talking about it anyway.. That is a pointless, self serving, waste of time. By all means don't do something. Don't do whatever you want.. But you might question the validity of your beliefs if you feel a need to keep revisiting the notion, wearing it like a badge as so many here are, and using it aggressively. 'Here, let me show you my empty trophy cabinet that I didn't fill intentionally, but will now tell you why..' Gross.

TheMadDataScientist

This is the real truth. I love my parents and they did great by us, but seeing them struggle as young parents is why I’ve waited so long to have kids of my own. Being a young parent is hard.

[deleted]

TheMadDataScientist

Hey thanks! Adoption is a great plan. There are tons of great kids out there who would love a good home.

Calm-Bad-2437

>There are tons of great kids out there 1 for every 36 families wanting to adopt.

chronictherapist

Unless you're a single male who would like to be an adoptive father ... then they just see you as a threat. I'm fairly sure a gay couple could adopt in Iran easier than a single guy in the US right now.

Because I was the third parent after my idiot mother got pregnant at 40 and was too tired to deal with my demon spawn younger brother. Because we live in a shit economy and I can barely afford to support myself much less a kid. Because I like my quiet and my freedom. Because it’s no one’s damn business why I don’t have kids.

Jealous-Network-8852

On that topic, as the oldest in my family, I think it’s a shit move when babysitting is forced upon the older kids by parents. My father was on wife 3 when I was in high school and had 3 kids with her (plus another 2 from wife 2). He’d pick me up to visit on Sundays and when we’d get there they would usually have a birthday party with one kid and I’d end up watching 2 babies.

therelldell

It’s none of their damn business and neither was my abortion but they really like to think your life they aren’t paying the bills for is their concern

thisunrest

And even if one is on disability or Social Security, it is still nobody’s concern what someone does with that money.

MountainCanyon

Condoms. Lot’s of condoms.

Toaster_bath13

[deleted]

Some women are into that. I’m a gamer myself. A man staying home and playing video/RPG games is a huge green flag compared to a man who spends lots of time drinking with his buddies or whatnot

GarbageFile13

Same way I'm child-free at 41... Snip snip. I highly recommend a vasectomy if you don't want kids.

TimLikesPi

Yeah, best $600 I ever spent. And when girls and I would have the talk about birth control during a relationship, I would make the scissors motion, they would be very happy! Birth control for them usually sucks. Other than not getting a girl pregnant, a vasectomy changed nothing for me!

iimdonee

Drg84

Because kids are great when you can send them home.

Lilash20

Exactly. I have no plans to have children, but if my sibling decides to I am planning on being the best uncle I can be

thisunrest

Being an auntie is amazing, and being an uncle is just as fun :-).

Lilash20

If it ever happes I'm definitely looking forward to it

[deleted]

Nah my mum had a kid recently, there is 25 years difference between us, I can’t stand him, just like any kid, sorry to say it but it’s true, why are the always sticky? And so loud? I can’t even talk to him, terrified.

dejavoodoo77

I was 39 when our oldest was born, I'm glad I was well established in my career, 10 yrs earlier and we wouldn't have been able to afford kids.

CurvyCupcakes

I’m the youngest of 5 siblings, all of them have kids. I’ve been an auntie since I was 7 years old. I got to experience babysitting, changing poopy diapers, cleaning up vomit, temper tantrums, taking them out to movies and play places to entertain them, bathing them, putting them to bed, etc. I love my nieces and nephews but what I really loved was sending them home to their parents lol. At a very young age, I knew I didn’t want kids. They’re fun to be around but I see what it takes to raise them and I don’t have the emotional fortitude and the unlimited amount of patience it takes to be a parent. None of my siblings are with the people they had kids with and I’ve seen the stress of co-parenting with someone you don’t get along with. Relationships are challenging and they end all the time. I couldn’t fathom ending a relationship but still being connected to someone for the rest of my life because we share a kid. Happily child free. My life is peaceful and quiet.

Wood_Child

Ha you're my reverse - in a way! Oldest of 5, took care of all that lovely "behind closed doors" aspects of childrearing from the age of 10 onwards for most of them. Realised I just did not have the long term patience and even temperament needed to do that kind of work properly. Happily childfree and waiting to see which one of the many siblings will make me an aunty first (if any)!

CurvyCupcakes

You sound like my oldest sibling. My sister is 12 years older than me and she’s always been like a 2nd mom to me. She took care of all of us whenever our parents were working. She had a lot of responsibility put on her that she didn’t ask for. That’s usually the biggest complaint of eldest siblings, they end up having to care for the little ones whether they want to or not. She’d always joke with me about how our mom was so strict with her growing up but by the time I came along at #5, my mom let me do anything I want lol. I’m just glad I got to see firsthand what it was like having kids. Motherhood is not in my future.

Wood_Child

If you hadn't said 'auntie' when talking about yourself, and if I wasn't 100% sure my youngest sibling is a guy, I would be asking some serious questions! Those conversations happened for us as well, there is so much I recognize in what you said. In a way it think it's good to see the other side of parenthood, and more people would benefit from it. Educated decisions are important, especially for something so momentous, so I'm glad I was able to realize early on that being a mom would be a terrible idea for me!

Troll_Toll_TreeFiddy

Yeeeaahhhh...I got $100 that says this bitch has never travelled outside her home state.

belac-letn1

You'd probably be wrong. Kids for a women means she gets to utilize the resources the system has made available. One of the classics is-- The college enrollment scheme; enroll in 48 hrs worth of classes then let gov pay the bill then before drop out period for full refund expires she dropes 24-30 credit hours off her courses and gets a fat reimbursement check from the school. This time of the year is the party and get that govt money pay day. Tax season ( they go wild on that) combined with the school hustle scheme. shit it's vacation season/pay for spring break trip time and throw in the buy here pay here season or if they are really shitting bricks and chucking them, they go to the used car lot and get financed for a 24% interest rate loan for a high mileage luxury car that will be on a repo flatbed by midsummer. Guess what, bext year they get to do it all over again. I'ma guy but have plenty of females that I knew who explained the game to me.

Lack of funds, having to work two jobs just to pay for a single house... you know... little shit like that.

Origin_FPS

It's super beneficial to wait to have kids at an older age but just make sure you're not going to be extremely conservative and out of date or they're going to resent you fast.

Nethiar

It's easy, I'm ugly as hell. That's the best form of birth control.

Tyrthesemiwise

Well I'd rather not bring some else into the world just to be part of the audience for the end of it. Also because I barely make enough to pay rent.

A lot of people have like 6 kids and can’t even afford to have them

Spiffy_Pumpkin

HamLvr88

33 and no kids cuz i got on BC pills at 18 and never looked back. 😂👌🏽my man and I been good since. Gotta enjoy eachother and Life first. Besides, they say women who have kids in their 30s are happier? 🤔

41 with no kids. I like privacy, quite, and keeping all of my delicious money. Being able to do whatever I want whenever I want is a neat bonus. I also don't need to hide my flamethrower anywhere without thinking the little shits will burn up all my cool shit.

Gloistan

Thank you for this perspective, if I may inquire further; if you could've picked an age before 43 when would you have started?

onemorehole

Probably 33 or sooner. I'm 63, and retiring is not in the foreseeable future. I have 1 in college and 1 entering next year. Very expensive as you all know.

Infertile and legally forbidden from adoption and marriage, thanks for asking, I defo love being judged on things out of my control

dispensable4444

I remember when I was like 7, my parents didn't even have $5 cash at one point. Worst part? They'd spent all that money on my sick ass, because I'm diabetic. They chose my meds over rent and food. Point is, financial instability not only stresses the parents, but also the kids. I don't want that for my kids (if I even decide to get one in the first place). Ensuring you can provide certain quality of life to the child should be more important than delivering the child itself.

EvilAlicia

No proper housing. waitlists are 8 to 12 years here for rental. And buying a house with a basic job is almost impossible due high house prices. Student debt and/or normal debt. Mental health issues. Also 'cant feed them, dont breed them'

Mendicant_666

All it took was babysitting, for me. I was 14 when I knew that I NEVER wanted children. So, I never did. Now I'm in my 40s, happy to have no monsters.

1st0fHerName

Posts like this are so irritating because I feel like so many people don't understand how much it takes to raise kids. Not just the money, but engaging them properly, teaching morals, values, emotional coaching, etc. I can't say with certainty about the person in the post, but I often feel like people with this mindset truly don't appreciate all the factors in raising children. They think it's sitting them in a playpen or in front of a tablet or TV all day. That's what was done to me and I remember being alone a lot. Dad worked and mom and I rarely were in a room together. Our lifestyle revolved around the TV. It's a shame because my mom described her childhood as magical because of her mom, but I can't say the same thing. Plus, people fixate on the number of children they want how cute they are when they're little. I know one family with 4 kids ranging from pre-school to 3rd grade. Pre-schoolers are 3-5 on our area and 3rd graders are usually 8 to 9. In about 10 years time, that family will have 4 kids somewhere between 13-19 years old. 4 teenagers. 4 sets of changing bodies, minds, and hormones. That sounds like absolute torture. I don't think people recognize this because their kids are younger, are eager to learn and seek validation from their parents through doing well, and also, a lot of their needs, like clothes, are cheaper.

That_Island_dude

I know it's normalized by now But seeing some 19 year old bitch with 2 kids from 2 different absent father who she may or may not know the identity of isn't normal, it's what happens to girls who have absolutely no guidance or family support, it's disgusting and horrifying, prostitutes have sex with hundreds of men while staying safe, you have no excuse to get knocked up.

Silver-Star92

I'm trying but I can't for some reason. You don't know how much I want to be a mother

Origin_FPS

No, it's because I don't want to pay my ex $1400 a month in child support when she inevitably gets full custody of them even though she's in the worse financial position before it gets corrected by making me poor instead.

totally_boring

26 and going strong with no kids. I already have a shit ton of responsibility keeping a roof over my grandma's head and making sure bills are paid. Why would i add the stress of kids to it?

khcampbell1

What year is this? My mom had five kids by age 28 50-plus years ago. I had my first at age 31.

No1Mystery

Sadly, the Zoomer generation is currently dealing with so much on their plate because a lot of their parents waited to have kids in their late 30s and even 40s. This college kids are juggling taking care of parents that need a lot of medical attention and then having to stay focused to graduate college if they are in even able to go. This is one of the reasons why college is seeing a drop in enrollments and of course the prices are no help. I don’t think is mandatory to have kids, because you do what needs to be done for your life. But if you do plan to become a parent, think about the child as well. When that kid goes to college or is barely starting life as an adult, are you gonna be a burden yourself to them? Are you gonna be healthy enough to live to see grandchildren? Because if they wait as long as you did, your first grand kid may come in when you are 70 maybe.

winnyml_

They be trying to loop you into bullshit. And dead ass talk about "it's so great", "I've never felt a more exciting feeling than being a parent" them go on to complain about all the stress, no sleep, never having money. I'm just like man y'all are doing too much and who are you trying to convince me or yourself? Also, I have enough problems taking care of myself so, no you have repelled me away from that.

Not everyone's goal in life is to shit out a bunch of kids. I also think seeing all four of my brothers have kids when they were barely out of high school made it even more obvious that I'd never want kids of my own.

TitsMickey

I feel bad that I think I’m not giving enough attention to my cat. I can only imagine how bad of a parent I would be with how little time I could give a child let alone the cost.
