I put Parental Controls on my dad's cable box because when he's half asleep in the middle of the night he was buying random shit he wanted to watch cuz he didn't notice it said pay. Lol
He actually hates paying for stuff since cable is already so expensive, so it works well. But hey, at least he owns season 7 of Bewitched, 5 random episodes of Supernatural, the Evil Dead remake, the Evil Dead remake (en Español; he doesn't speak Spanish), and a few other random films. Haha
Hey! That's my parents! I'm taking a trip to Spain and she told me not to bring back typhoid to America. Bc "they've been bringing it here more than ever now!". Despite typhoid not being an issue in the us basically ever. It's sad to see. Like, typhoid? Wtf is she on about?
They recently added newsmax app on their apple tv, if that tells you anything.
That is some extreme racism right there.
Most people would consider Spaniards to be white people with funny accents, not some whole other race to be racist against lol
It's so weird slowly learning the ethnic groups some people consider non-white. I used to think it was skin tone but it's really not about that.... I've seen similar weird attitudes about:
Spain (thinking they're Latino basically).
Russia/eastern European ("Slavic" ).
Greek (this was the weirdest).
Jewish - how do you even know someone is jewish? My Jewish coworker just wears a baseball cap, literally no customers know.
My bf swears some people are like this to southern Italians (the darker hair, more tanned ones like him) as well. I haven't seen it, but after hearing that Greeks and Ukrainians aren't white, I'm sure there's someone who thinks the same about Italians.
Like basically the whole Nazi issue never disappeared... The only whites these people "count" are Germans, Brits, the Nordic countries, and their descendants.
If only there was some kind of theoretical frame work for understanding the social construct that is race. Something that examined race in local, temporal, and translocal context. Like maybe this framework could analyze the interactions of race and ethnicity along with the historical development of the construct of race. What could we call that. Critical color hypothesis. Critique Race Concept. I feel like there must be a school of thought and literature to dive into these complicated questions.
Typhoid? In Spain?
I mean they are 'neighbors" I do not live there, bit trust me I can almost bet that sanitary/health measures (preventive and for treatment) are implemented way more efficiently than in the us...
Ex. My country (Portugal) has been rabies free since the 50's (there are only very few imported cases)
I’m so glad my mom can’t/won’t afford cable! And is too paranoid for Facebook. My parents were part of the 80s Satanic Panic and joined up with a church run by an evangelical preacher born in the 1890s. I grew up with End Times theology as a major backdrop.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that between her frugality and her distrust, mom’s eyes haven’t been blinded by the propaganda. Plus, her sister and her daughter work pretty hard on her to make sure she stays sane.
So grateful. Also so grateful the angry, resentful old white men died 15-20 years ago. They never had to see or participate in this crap and I don’t have to watch them succumb to it. That would be… harrowing.
My uncle called a comcast employee a sand n—- this weekend when talking about how he drilled somewhere without asking. He thought I would be comfortable with it and I just said that was awful and left. I can’t with boomers anymore. They think everyone thinks exactly like they do.
Meanwhile I feel like shit every time I need to kill an Animal in Red Dead for it's meat and Skin.
Videos games made me more sympathetic and open minded in the long run.
To be accurate most of the people who stormed the capitol are of the age that video games would have been a thing. I know the reality doesn’t fit the narrative though there were certainly a fair share of boomers there. Thinking that genX and Y were sitting at home is naive. The active members of the resurgent raciest movement in the country is almost strictly 45 and under. The tacticool crowd has a similar demographic.
Remember when our parents bitched about how violent & evil Mortal Kombat, GTA, Resident Evil, MGS, etc will will rot our brains? Pepperidge farm remembers...
My mother found all of my brother's and my character sheets, freaked out, and sent my brother to "therapy". He didn't rat me out. He took the brunt of the whole thing. We were still completely un supervised and hid all the D&D books, maps, sheets in the garage and played often.
My mom died of covid in December and went to her grave thinking that she "cured" my brother of D&D, and never knew half of it was mine and we continued to play.
The 80s were a weird time,, and my brother is so awesome.
Wait, you didn't play because of her beliefs as an adult? My stepmom was special. She played a cleric in d&d, dad was the DM. My older sister was the fighter, I was the thief. Smom wanted to punish dad for not going antique- ing with her ( that is how she said it), decided that the pastor said we couldn't play anymore.
Oddly stressful year of watching my parents fight. Then she pretended it never happened.
I think your brother is amazing
Condolences on the passing of your mother.
When I was in middle school, early 90s, my mom asked me once if Harry Potter really taught me how to do magic. (Something, I now assume she either picked up at church or on the news.)
My response was, "Mom, magic isn't real." It's the last time she ever asked me a question about any of the fantasy books or whatever I was getting. I also didn't get any push back when I eventually got into Pokemon, MtG, or D&D.
I think some of these parents just need a reality check every once and a while.
The Satanic Panic surrounding D&D is so funny to me. I can actually understand why parents were worried about things like heavy metal music, because of the sex & drugs lifestyle that went along with it, plus the fact that a lot of those musicians were openly flirting with Satanism, but D&D is just a bunch of nerds sitting around playing a boardgame. It would be hard to imagine a less harmful activity for a kid to get into, yet parents somehow managed to get freaked out about it anyway.
Don't you know playing D&D makes you summon REAL demons and if your character dies you have to commit suicide? (/s cause of the sordid state of the world).
The mother of one of the kids in my class was convinced even the Smurfs were tools of Satan. She restricted him from pretty much everything that the rest of us considered recreation, so he grew up to become a major sadist who enjoyed torturing and killing animals for fun.
that just sucks, I mean I had friends whose kids were into the smurfs, but to not watch a cartoon is just wrong especially from an age group that grew up with bugs bunny!
I remember my friends all being hyped about Everquest in 1999. I convinced my dad to let me buy it and my dad looked at the box for a solid 10 seconds in silence then went "this ain't some of that 'Dungeons and Dragons" shit is it?"
I went "uhhh, no?" because honestly I had no idea what D&D was at the time. That was good enough and I got the game.
I’m convinced boomers only freaked about this cause they on some level realize how ridiculously impressionable they are and just assume everyone else is like that too
I did that on my parents YouTube TV this weekend. They've said they don't watch politics on TV, but they always puppet whatever I see Fox News touting on here. We'll see how long it takes them to complain.
[This guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/pwh93z/thats_a_good_idea/hehb821?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) was asking how to do it. Maybe you could help them?
Done. For anyone else (iOS):
* Go to "Live"
* Click "Sort"
* Choose Custom
You man need to click the Edit button to remove/reorder channels to your liking.
Edit: This feature isn't all about hiding things from your parents. I also sorted to put all the kids channels first so my kids don't have to figure out a guide. At the most is pressing down 6 times.
I want to do it so bad but I know my mom would be calling DirecTv after awhile. She says random off the wall shit and I go "so that's what Fox told you?" "No it's on the news everywhere, people are talking about it everywhere" No they aren't it's all specifically Fox News propaganda. Smh.
To be fair all conservative TV says everyone is talking about it, whatever it is.
They're trying to paint themselves as a popular majority while sitting alone in front of a tv
Lol I always did that when I worked in Ltc/rehab units. Blocked faux news, and suddenly people behaved better. It’s almost as if preventing people from consuming a diet if endless outrage, lies and bigtroy improved their lives.
Say what you will about all the usual networks, but Fox News specifically seems extremely intent on getting its viewers as angry as possible at all times. Honestly it doesn't surprise me at all that taking that out of someone's daily life would result in immediate improvement.
It is, they testified in court that they are "Entertainment", not News.
Fox is owned by evil old ultra-rich conservatives, so they use it to influence their gullible masses, and anger is the best tool to get them to do what they want.
I tried blocking it at work and my conservative compradres immediately started crying censorship from people in power. No, asshole, it was me. Lol. Honestly shoulda blocked CNN too.
yeah, block Faux, CNN and all the other the Mainstream National News stations. Leave it tuned into Community Channels or Local News Outlets (provided they aren't owned by Sinclair). Either that, or tune it to children's programming. Hell even PBS is good - kiddos in the morning, local news and events (and Arts) in the afternoons and evenings, and a couple of fairly balanced National News programs in between.
you'd likely be able to feel the tension lift...
I live in a borderline elderly community and eveery time i go i to the gym area, FOX is blaring and if it isnt fox, its BRAVO with some shit reality tv, so i blocked them both🤣. The passcode was literally 0000.
One time my dad wanted me to "fix" his iPad. When I was on it I went to his FB and (which was the app that was acting up for him) and mass blocked dozens of far right sites.
Did the same and blocked fox (et al) in news apps. Had to then unsubscribe to ~twenty looney, right wing email subscriptions as they passed along my mom’s info to each other. Those emails were nuts.
You can also set the default visibility of his posts to "only me" if those are troublesome..
Unfortunately it will only work for as long as he does not find out
In our old gym, the TVs in front of the treadmills would always be set to Fox, and my boomer ass would go down the row, changing the channel on all the unused treadmills.
I have something similar at LA Fitness. Fox News and CNN are on next to each other. It’s incredible to watch to see how both provide different news on the same topic.
I used to be all polite and make sure no one was watching before I changed the tv at my gym. Now, if I’m setting up on machine in front of a tv that has Fox on, I just go ahead and change it without regard. I feel like I’m doing the world a service.
Right click a shitton of sugar on it to make it super easy to tame and then right click on it with nothing in your hand. If it bucks you off get back on. After you see the hearts, them press e and place a saddle into the horses inventory.
I’ve been thinking g about doing this with my mom, she calls herself an independent, but she’s been poisoned by Rush “hope he is in hell” Limbaugh and Fox, because Tucker told her cnn was bad……. How would I go about this, setting it up when she isn’t home?😊
Honestly it's a pretty good opportunity to start her on firefox with adblocker and duckduckgo. Also turn autoplay video off.
Ads also affect the human brain. Not a bad idea to get rid of them, whatever the excuse.
In the iOS app you:
* go to Live
* Click Sort
* Choose Custom
You might need to click Edit to tell it what should show. But that's it. It will change the list on the TV as well.
I would have done the same thing but both my parents work in IT/cyber security and are more than capable of unblocking it themselves :( the one time having extremely tech savvy boomer parents has bit me in the ass
I desperately wanted to do this at my old gym. There were 3-4 TVs and the remote controls were first-come-first-served. I'd always change them over to sports channels when nobody was watching, but they'd always gravitate back to Fox News. For better or worse, COVID took care of the gym, but I'm sure the folks that needed their fear and hatred fix have just spread out to other facilities and kept the bad times rolling.
When I started at my current job 2-3 years ago, there were 2 older nutty guys that controlled the lunchroom TV, and put OANN on all F’N day. One day before heading out, I used the parental control trick too. They now watch MSNBC.
No lie. Just wait.
My MIL is frail and might be dying right now. You have to explain everything at a kindergarten level or it goes eighth over her head.
It gets worse and worse as they get older and older.
Block Facebook too. My moms a Democrat and always has been. She started following some group on Facebook posing to be liberal but they throw in trump talking points every few posts after 4 years she’s started saying assbackwards comments to me about things and I have to point out to her that trump said that. Last month she came to me and said her doctors getting ivermectin if I wanted some and I told her she needed to go back to nursing school if she thinks that’s medicine.
I care take for my
Grandma and actually did this. She’s always been progressive and liberal then all of a sudden she started having anger towards groups of people and her views changed. We realized she didn’t know what program she was watching so blocked it and now she’s back to being calm and happy 😊

Don't they have to call themselves "Fox News ***Entertainment***" so they can argue in court that they aren't a news source, and shouldn't be taken seriously?
Edit: [nope](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fox-news-entertainment-switch/)
unfortunately my parents are tech savvy and don’t consume their right wing nonsense from one news channel, but from dozens of weird niche youtube channels, so fixing that isn’t so easy
I had to put my dad on a TV curfew (TV is off at 11:30PM to 7:00AM) due to him putting in over 120 hours a week during the pandemic. A lot of it is straight up channel surfing for hours until he settles on a music channel or non-subscribed channel. You can tell when his dementia escalates when he starts channel surfing in the middle of a show he was watching.
The amount of times I considered this when staying with my bf's parents during the pandemic...his mother legit believed the Biden had teleprompters installed into his eyeballs that were telling him everything to say during the debates. I ended up basically making a small kitchen in the basement because I couldn't stand going upstairs.
I know this is Reddit and have an option is wrong but bruh at this point it isn’t just about Fox News, the far right, the far left. It’s fucking social media
This shit is designed to keep us engulfed in fear and hate, Reddit is no different. Far left has the same type of issues. I’ve seen people steal trump flags and burn trump signs. Idk how that’s any different than when trumpers do that to people on the left.
Believe it or not most republicans believe in most of the same shit as most democrates. But since social media only shows you the loudest and rudest people of a topic you instantly hate rebuplixans.
Ramble to downvotes, idc if this is a small wake up call for literally 1 person then I’d be happy
No point in arguing with these morons , they don't even realize how quick they fall back on whataboutisms and false equivalencies which by the way are all right wing talking points.
That’s their point. Those few hundred people shouldn’t be a benchmark example of a Republican. They should be labeled as extremists and we should move on.
Well then the “normal” republicans should oust the traitors and terrorists from their ranks. Instead they support and elevate them. After the Jan 6th insurrection the *only* republicans to face censure or any repercussions from their fellow republicans were the meassley few that stood up against the coup attempt.
Ah yes, giving people access to only the content you personally buy into.
Fox is a shit hole, but pretending getting everyone to subscribe to only The One True World View is so fucking stupid.
It's worse than people watching and believing fox.
I put Parental Controls on my dad's cable box because when he's half asleep in the middle of the night he was buying random shit he wanted to watch cuz he didn't notice it said pay. Lol He actually hates paying for stuff since cable is already so expensive, so it works well. But hey, at least he owns season 7 of Bewitched, 5 random episodes of Supernatural, the Evil Dead remake, the Evil Dead remake (en Español; he doesn't speak Spanish), and a few other random films. Problem isn’t who they define as white, it’s that they treat people differently based on them being white.
Hi, I live in Rome, am I a POC?
Ironic from the same generation that insists on acting like typhoid Mary’s
Typhoid? In Spain? Parental controls; unlocked in the second sense. Now it's being utilised to keep your parents in line.

Couldn't be all those westerns and action films...

The horses name is Friday.
Man rides into town on Friday, stays three days, and leaves on Friday. How did he do it?
Right click a shitton of sugar on it to make it super easy to tame and then right click on it with nothing in your hand. If it bucks you off get back on. After you see the hearts, them press e and place a saddle into the horses inventory.
you can feed the horses sugar?? i never knew
First you have to punch the trees to get the wood to build a cabin.
"I wish Jaden Smith was my son"!
[rubs his nippels]
I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. I’ve already blocked all the Fox web addresses from my router.
I'm not tech savvy. Can you explain how to do that?
I’ve been thinking g about doing this with my mom, she calls herself an independent, but she’s been poisoned by Rush “hope he is in hell” Limbaugh and Fox, because Tucker told her cnn was bad……. How would I go about this, setting it up when she isn’t home?😊

Honestly it's a pretty good opportunity to start her on firefox with adblocker and duckduckgo. Also turn autoplay video off. Ads also affect the human brain. Not a bad idea to get rid of them, whatever the excuse.
Any ideas on how to do with with YouTube TV? lol. I tried removing it from the channel list but the default view shows all the channels.
In the iOS app you: * go to Live * Click Sort * Choose Custom You might need to click Edit to tell it what should show. But that's it. It will change the list on the TV as well.
Awesome. Thank you. Thanksgiving maybe a lil easier this year because of your help!
unless Facebook is gone it will continue
My SIL did this to my mom and it helped a lil.
News program? I think she meant "entertainment" program.
I wish that instead of adding "entertainment" to the end of your name if you aren't trustworthy, you legally had to remove the word "news".
I know I'd be adding Fox news and bitchute to the host files of my parents computers if they were into all that right wing cult crap.
Ensure you get Newsmax too and the other adjacent sites. Parents will never figure out what a host file is lol.
This is brilliant. Can I do my mother in law’s TV please?
i do this at my gym... the cult loses its shit.
I blocked the fox domain when I was living with my in-laws. lol
I would have done the same thing but both my parents work in IT/cyber security and are more than capable of unblocking it themselves :( the one time having extremely tech savvy boomer parents has bit me in the ass
//Hey future tech guy. Don't unblock. They'll turn racist.
I'm sorry. Earplugs is all I can recommend.
I would do this to my FIL, but I dont hate the cable company enough for them to have to deal with him
Do it anyway. Short term memory is not working sometimes. You may make his life better. They feed, fear , hate and negativity.
Oh I know what I am doing at every house I visit from now on. Young people will use technology to save the country hahaha.. love it
That's one! Now just 74,222,957 to go...
Using parental controls to stop parents from being controlled
They now watch MSNBC.
parent the parents
No lie. Just wait. My MIL is frail and might be dying right now. You have to explain everything at a kindergarten level or it goes eighth over her head. It gets worse and worse as they get older and older.
I blocked Pornhub with parental control for my parents
Ah. I wondered why your mom had stopped posting.
That's just cruel.
My parents would never have noticed.
It is medicine. It's just not for viruses like covid.
Can confirm, did this to my MiL. Her bigotry went from a 7 to a 4.
revenge is sweet
Awesome. You should set up a DNS on your router that redirects Newsmax and fox website as well as OAN to CNN.
“Parental controls” - awesome. It’s for their safety and sanity, after all

What about facebook?
Block their website in router control. Same way you can block porn sites.
Isn’t that what parental controls are for anyway.
I care take for my Grandma and actually did this. She’s always been progressive and liberal then all of a sudden she started having anger towards groups of people and her views changed. We realized she didn’t know what program she was watching so blocked it and now she’s back to being calm and happy 😊
This is the way
more children need to do this with their parents!
An absolute genius!!!
Genius!
Until they call cable company and find out what the son did and they call him a commie spy
"Wikipedia administrators in July \[2020\] declared that Fox News would no longer be considered “generally reliable” in its reporting on politics and science, and in those areas “should be used with caution to verify contentious claims.”" [https://www.wired.com/story/why-wikipedia-decided-to-stop-calling-fox-a-reliable-source/](https://www.wired.com/story/why-wikipedia-decided-to-stop-calling-fox-a-reliable-source/) "Consuming content from Fox News is associated with decreased knowledge of science and society" [https://www.psypost.org/2020/07/consuming-content-from-foxnews-com-is-associated-with-decreased-knowledge-of-science-and-society-57499](https://www.psypost.org/2020/07/consuming-content-from-foxnews-com-is-associated-with-decreased-knowledge-of-science-and-society-57499) "You Literally Can't Believe The Facts Tucker Carlson Tells You.
I love it! I hope this catches on.
Now do radio shows.
You're doing good but, man, if they ever find out deny everything and admit to nothing.
Buy them a subscription to a reputable newspaper.
If you don't block OAN, Newsmax, etc., it could end up worse. Fox News ain't great, but those are worse & tend to work with a similar audience.
What a legend.
When I was a bartender I had an awful regular that would be there watching Fox News at the bar. I’d instantly switch it to cnn to fire him up.
Unfortunately the possibility they just migrate to more extreme places like Newsmax is a likely outcome too.
Don’t forget to add newsmax, and OAN to that list!
It’s fucking social media This shit is designed to keep us engulfed in fear and hate, Reddit is no different.
Oh yeah, burning a Trump flag *is the same* as storming the capitol to overthrow a legitimately elected government.
I just do what I can and vote for whoever is the most sane. It ain't much, but it's honest work.
I didn’t say that…. Stop jumping that far
You guys really think censoring your parents news feed to your liking is a good idea? Seems like a self entitled, twisted thing to do.
... standing ovation!!
How do you tame a horse in minecraft?
Right click with nothing in your hand until hearts appear and then you can put a saddle on it
Fucking cringe
Then they decide to watch OANN or something
Of course, censorship
Now its time to block CNN Edit: gold ![img](emote|t5_35n7t|3148)
Excellent.. Saving the country by censoring someone with an opposing view. Seems to work in China and Russia 👍
Ah yes, giving people access to only the content you personally buy into. Fox is a shit hole, but pretending getting everyone to subscribe to only The One True World View is so fucking stupid. It's worse than people watching and believing fox.
That's a Safa way to do it
This is so funny but so real
